As far as molecules just bumping together to make humans, I don't think that occured. That did occur at the beginning of the universe at some point between 12-20 billion years ago, not trillions, which is known as the Big Bang. After that, it is pretty much all evolution. You can experimentally create organic molecules by simulating the atmosphere of the early Earth. In an experiment in 1950 by Miller-Urey, they put a mixture of water, hydrogen, methane, and ammonia into a sealed container, heated it up and provided and electrical spark to simulate lightning. The resulting mixture contained four different amino acids which make protiens. So under the right circumstances, things can "just happen". Earth just happens to be at a prime distance from the sun and is the only planet with water. So at some point some type of life was created and evolved. You can then compare the similarities and differences of the early humans. Going from Australopithecus afarensis and A.africanus to Homo habilis, H.erectus, and H.sapiens, you get more of an upright posture, which causes changes in the skull morphology due to changes in support, and the skull becomes larger because of an increase in brain size. If we were all just created by someone/thing, why were there no Homo sapiens walking around with any Australopithecines? Because they were not around and had not evolved yet. Now about having nothing after death, I don't know. But why does there have to be anything? Just because everyone tries to do their best at whatever and become successfull depending on their ideas of success, etc., doesn't necessarily mean that there has to be something afterwards. I realize that some religions like Hinduism (I think) believe that your reincarnation depends on the quality of life that you previously lived. It isn't necessarily true though, it is just what they believe. If you squish a bug, or shoot an animal, or whatever, does it go on to anything past death or is it just dead and some meat to put on the table? I don't know. There might be and there might not be. I just don't see why there has to be. I strongly believe in evolution but the *very* beginnings are puzzling. What was there 20 billion years ago plus one second before the Big Bang? Nobody knows. Maybe there was some creation at that point, maybe things just happened. sorry for being to Tool unrelated but I think there is some interesting discussions going on here. To the person who wrote to me about my misunderstanding of Satanism, could you explain in more detail about it, either to me or to the group. Thanks all. until next time Scott ------------------------------ Topic No. 2 Date: 15 Jul 95 22:43:35 EDT From: Justin D Wright <71664.2707@compuserve.com> To: "\"'Skweetis' Steve Reed\"" Cc: Tool-list Subject: KISW Message-ID: <950716024335_71664.2707_EHJ131-1@CompuServe.COM> I've heard of KISW doing that before but have missed it damn! 99.9 is good cause they don't bleep or censor songs. What's the use of going through life with unfulfilled experience? Let's look at it worst case: when you die, you are shut off eternally. Given that absolute finality, wouldn't you want to make the most of the rarest of occurences in the universe: i.e. self-awareness? We can count stars and quarks and stupid cosmic crap like that, but life is unique to us. Enjoy it. -Remo ------------------------------ End of TOOL-LIST Digest 370 ***************************
