They played with Sick Of It All (ahh, they were O.K.) and >Orange9MM (They were just as good as Quicksand- anybody have any info on >them?) > There seems to be quite a lot of Quicksand fans on this list and I'm sure anyone who likes them would probably like Orange 9mm too so that's my justification for posting this on the Tool list (It's a lot more relevant than the religion thread, anyways). Orange 9mm is from New York and sounds a lot like Quicksand, especially on the heavier side. They have a new album out on Atlantic called "Driver Not Included" which I haven't actually heard yet because it hasn't been released in Canada (even though it's been out in the U.S. since March). I have the self-titled EP they put out on Revelation, which has some songs from the new album, and it's excellent.Only four songs but generally, I enjoy it as much as any full-length I own. Another Quicksand connection is that their producer for the EP was Don Fury, one of Quicksand's producers. Anyone who's into Quicksand (which seems to be a lot of people who like Tool) will love Orange 9mm. Silas P.S. I listened to SLIP and was extremely unimpressed. I think they lack the diversity and musicality that TOOL has.. also the vocals were lacking. I admit, however that I've had my mind changed about several bands after seeing them live.. and I've yet to see Q.S. back to TOOL.. I was just thinking that maybe SOBER is sort of like a sequel to OPIATE opiate --> sober ------ ----- ..someone strong to i am just a liar, imbecile... guide you anyway... i'm not gonna draw up a whole chart.. but here's the theory: in OPIATE he's speaking from Jesus's point of view, except for "J.C. why don't you come save my life" and then in SOBER he's still Jesus, except he's being honest, except for the chorus, once again, when he's asking Jesus to fucking whistle something he didn't know already!!!! yaya... that's it. ok... sorry, but when a new album comes out we can talk about something worthwhile. ============================================================================ = "They're hangin on to outdated imperialistic dogma, which perpetuates the social and economic differences in our society." -Monty Python my homepage: http://knuth.mtsu.edu/~laroche/home.html =========================================================================== ------------------------------ Topic No. 4 Date: Thu, 27 Jul 1995 21:43:54 +1200 From: charris@i-max.co.nz (Clint Harris) To: tool-list@visix.com Subject: Re: Tounge Piercing Message-ID: <199507270943.VAA01548@on-ramp.i-max.co.nz> > > Well I can tell you that your girlfriends will love it after the >four weeks are up. The jesus thing on the front probably highlites that in the best way. (jesus being a leader of the masses etc.) It's quite funny when I make the trip back to see the old's (hicksville) wearing my TooL shirt, I'm pretty sure that *no-one* in the town has ever heard of them and alot of them take offfense at the "indians" shirt They seem to think that it's some kind of blasphemy (a pic of jesus with a big TOOL stamped on it) ..haha makes me laugh everytime :) S'yoo CH... ------------------------------ Topic No. 5 Date: Thu, 27 Jul 95 10:51:00 PDT From: Scot Dunlap To: tool-list Subject: ??????? I only write on my behalf of course and I would like to thank those people that wrote about my "all indians no chiefs" question, but I herd somewhere that there was a different slogan on the back of the shirt that went along with the Jesus theme on the front. I also herd that the original slogan was replaced by the "all indians no chiefs" because of all of the flak they were getting from it. If all of this is true, then what was the original slogan??? ------------------------------ Topic No. 8 Date: Thu, 27 Jul 1995 15:27:54 -0400 From: kabir@sas.upenn.edu (Your pal Kabir) To: tool-list@visix.com Subject: Re: ??????? For fear of turning this into a FNM list, I have to give my opinions. I love FNM - I personally prefer The Real Thing, but each to their own. But I bought this, and was SHOCKED. Was this the FNM I had come to love? NOOOOOOO, it wasn't. It was an album full of ballads, poorly written songs, and bad artwork. There were a couple of songs I liked - but most of it was crap. I sold it on for AUS$10, and I personally think I ripped the other guy off. When you listen to Tool as much as I do, you realise how much other bands leave to be desired! I love FNM, too - I think they're as interesting as Tool, and as talented (they don't have the same brooding image, tho) - but I heard one release off this most recent album and was like, "I *might* buy this." Very few of my "favorite" bands are producing good albums anymore...I hope Tool's next one doesn't disappoint - I'm kinda counting on it to kick ass. I think the next one can be incredible despite how great Undertow was the same way Angel Dust compares to The Real Thing (sorry, I like AD better). The Real Thing had a lot of variety on it, but was distinctively Faith No More. Angel Dust, however, had songs in every style...western, pop, death metal, and *still* kicked ass. I'm hoping that we see Tool diversify in the same way...I'm not saying that they should write western, but that I hope they continue to broaden themselves musically. You may very well be close. When Tool played at lollapalooza in Portland Oregon, Maynard said something to the effect of, "This song is about taking lots of acid and listening to Joan Baez" (or one of those other hippy lady singers, i can't remember the name) and they played 'Sweat'. tjr ------------------------------ Topic No. 15 Date: Thu, 27 Jul 1995 16:31:12 -0700 (PDT) From: "T.
