Then came Elastica. didn't catch them at all 'cause i was resting after the Beck pit. Sinead o'conner was supposed to play but she cancelled and elastica took her place. After Elastica came Pavement. i don't mean to offend any pavement fans but they were terrible. maybe it's just not my kind of music. Cypress hill was next on the line-up. they had a huge following. more than i ever suspected they would have at a mostly alternative concert. they played Hit from the Bong, Insane in the membrane, When the shit goes down, and others i don't know. they brought onstage a huge 6 foot high bong. everyone went berzerk when they saw it. Then toward the end of that set i started to go toward the stage to see if i could get up close for HOLE! By the time Mrs. Love came on-stage i was 15 feet away from her. she totally kicked ass. she threw baby dolls into the crowd and i got my hand's on two of them but before i could reel them in they got pulled out of my hands. she also threw a towel to the audience that she used to wipe her face, got my hands on that too but the guy in front of me and behind me took it away. those two fought over that towel for 10 minutes. it ended up they tore it in half annd each took a half. it was about 130 in the pit and there 10 people per square feet so it got reel hot. they used a fire hose to spray down the crowd. i was in the dead center of the stage so when she does her trademark one foot up on the amp playing style i could see her black lace underwear for 20 min. staight. when Hole was done i got out of the crowd and went to the bleachers to watch Sonic Youth. Sonic Youth lost alot of the crowd when Hole left. SY has the best feedback displays ever. they did a 10 min. version of washing machine that had a great instromental in it. every song they played had some sort of great guitar solo in it. SY was probably the best performance that i managed to see or wasn't so tired from crowd surfing or being in the pit that i couldn't hear. All in all it was a great concert and i recomend to anyone to go if it's coming to your area. that's about all. Just some thoughts... The first time i listened to Tool i had this special feeling that this band was like no one else. When i watched the "Sober" video it made me wanna cry. Later, when i learned that the band produces their videos themselves the feeling became twice as special. The whole sense of aesthetics that Tool represent cannot be compared to any other R'n'R band of our days. Let's face it guyz... When Kurt Cobain died, he took with him the best parts of what we call Rock music (although it's rather pointless talking about a person for whom so many things have been written-most of which have been utter bullshit). Anyway, it really pisses me off when i see people mentioning such mediocre bands as STP (no offense to anyone on this list, but this band really SUCKS-they're a just a cover band, and one of the reasons i really hate today's rock music), cos i think that Tool have really left miles behind them this sort of Hyped-Up R'n'R band image. Each band has a guitar player, a vocalist, a bassplayer, a drummer etc. But, this is just the medium. Why can't we scratch beneath the surface and discover the message and the difference within? I don't give a shit whether the guitar player plays 100 notes per second or whether the singer has a 10-octave voice range. I just want to hear music that sounds true and honest. Every aspect of Tool's music (from lyrics to complex time-signatures) has really nothing in common with 99% of the modern Rock scene because it speaks from the heart and every move in their career has been proof of that. Don't misunderstand me. I'm not a Tool-psycho of any sort and i don't want to sound selfish. It's just that i would like to see people respecting this band for what it really stands for: self expression freed from any kind of form limitations. Thanx for your time... T a z P.S. All my friends LOVE Tool. But for some reason they >try to hide my Black Crowes and Alice In Chains tapes. Go figure. >-Matt You guys don't know how lucky you are having friends that don't know/like Tool. A couple of months ago, Tool was THE THING. They were on a par with Offspring, Greenday, and all those other fad bands. It was Hell! There were days when I heard the song "Sober" 10 times, if not more. Of course, you'd go up to one of them and ask them about Opiate, and they'd just go "Huh? Has that got Prison Sex on it?" When they toured here with the Alternative Nation show, (Aussie Lollapalooza ripoff) they opened with Cold & Ugly. No-one seemed to know what the fuck it was!! Even the people with Tool shirts on looked bemused. I loved it :) Now, they're considered passe. Been there, done that. Now we're supposed to be into Dick Dale, and "porno" music. Sheesh. Anyway, this is also why that dude from Silverchair is wearing a Tool T-shirt in the clip of Tomorrow. In the Aussie version, he wears an Offspring shirt. Whatever version they do next, he'll be wearing a Dick Dale shirt. :) BTW, PLEASE don't buy that Frogstomp album. Silverchair suck. We've had 'em for about 12 months, and they STILL aren't keeping time on the album. Well, that's today's $0.02.
