Cause I was in a buying mood. Previously I bought a 486slc2/66 motherboard, vesa video card, and a new case, failed to get those working, so I'm on another computer right now, somewhat annoyed, but I digress. Anyway, dragging me down has some cool songs on it. Only eight. But they are Intolerance, Undertow, Sober, Bottom, Prison Sex, Four Degrees, Opiate, and Swamp Song. Sound quality is fair to ok. I haven't been able to play with the equalizer to see if I can get it to sound better, but it sounds like a good show. Somewhere in New York, I think, cause Maynard opens with the line "I fucking hate New York." The ever cool Danielle mentioned a bumper sticker that said: >"I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could." That's pretty funny. I had never seen one until the day you mentioned it. Anyway, I wasn't paying close attention and I thought it was on a car that had a colorado license plate. I thought it said I was born in texas, but got here (in this case colo.) as fast as I could. I liked it much better that way. Thirdage said: >Also, I saw Quicksand Monday night and they were amazing. I saw them about two Januarys ago and it was an incredible concert. OH, and I see the jesus christ t-shirt discussion appeared again. Now, this isn't my opinion on the shirt, but if any Christians ever get mad at you, perhaps you can dissuade them with this: "What all indians, no chiefs refers to is that all of us have within us the power to be as wonderful as Jesus Christ. We all have the "messiah within". You don't have to be a God to be so kind and compassionate. We all must work towards the goals that Christ has set out for us." Again, not my views, but if you don't want to have to get into a huge discussion with "those heathen Christians", this may be a way to get around it. Okay, pardon me if I ramble a bit... I just saw the silverchair video. Seems like Candlebox to me. And why does one of the guitarists have a left handed guitar strung right handed? I can understand why Jimi H. did it, but he just looked stupid. And her are some of us left handers who have a hell of a time finding left handed guitars. ***************381************ Silas said: >I'm sure anyone who likes them would probably like Orange >9mm too them being Quicksand. The music on Slip I would say fall in a fairly small vein, but Quicksand work it well. >I've had my mind changed about several bands after seeing >them live.. and I've yet to see Q.S. When I saw Quicksand, I swore it was the best concert I ever saw. Not just because of the band, but because of the crowd (only one asshole! Might have been more, but I didn't see any) and a lot of other stuff. Anyway, Tool easily annihilated them the second time I saw them a couple months later. Too bad no one else has been able to live up to it since then >I was just thinking that maybe SOBER is sort of like a sequel to OPIATE Not a bad thought. Thanks for pointing it out. Rather than hallucinogenics, though, it seems like this person i very ill or it's a side effect or something. I've never done hallucinogens (yet), so I don't know, but it seems like he's too out of control. I don't know, I get a lot of different ideas from the song depending on when I listen to it. one time I got the idea that the main character was being chased by someone. I don't know. So Kabir, how was the Filter concert? They are hosting 120 tonight... Tim said: > Maynard said something to the effect of, "This song is about >taking lots of acid and listening to Joan Baez" (or one of those >other hippy lady singers Well, okay. On one of the bootlegs he said he took some acid and then listened to the entire back catalog of Joni Mitchell. Maynard has also said that he listens to her music in other interviews, so my first thought that he was joking was wrong. But okay, people have admitted to liking STP, so I can admit that i listen to Joni. She's not bad. I dont think she's as good as tool, but then again, it's like comparing apples to oranges. Tool relates to me more, but Joni relates to me in the areas that tool can't. *********382*********** The Frizzle Fry Paul said: >While Opiate wasnt exactly an album, the tracks on Undertow >(most of them) have just that little bit more depth and >thought than Opiate. I think some of the songs on Undertow naturally matured a little, but I think other songs were put on Undertow because they had more depth, not because Tool got better. Joe who is Michael said: >I mean, I like Opiate because I like Tool, not the other way around. >(I know that not everyone on this list agrees.) I'm one of those who doesn't agree. I like Opiate and I like Undertow. Because I like all of the stuff, I guess I like Tool. Or you could say I like Tool because of what I've read about/from them. If you mean you like Opiate simply because it was done by Tool and so must be good, I disagree. But, that's life. >and I found out later why nobody had Queensryche or PfP...they weren't good. There were some not too good songs on the first porno album, but there were good ones too. For one thing, Perry wanted it to sound like a first album. I heard undertow first, fell in love with Tool, and consider undertow by far a better album...the polish on it shines in comparison to the rough, less-thought-out feel of Opiate. I'm surprised you say that they had all of the songs written at the same time...in my experience, this usually results from a band maturing...finding out that people like them & thus putting more effort into the songs; also, they probably have a better sense of what the studio process is. It's like when an athelete goes from amateur to pro...they develop a new confidence and stop fucking up. Same thing for musicians - think about how much Kurt Cobain owned the world of rock when he died. I think Tool went from amateur to pro between Opiate and Undertow. So I like Opiate because it is a glimpse into their past...I understand Tool therefore I can appreciate Opiate, even though I do not hold the music in high esteem. It's like being able to appreciate your little brother's cheezy art...but you're not going to like *someone else's* little brother's art. I hope this made things clear and not worse.
