Like what you want to and who cares if > no one likes it or everyone does... That's not so easy, dude...I think it *does* make sense. Number one, what other people think can change the meaning of something. I loved the Jerkey Boys until they became really popular and became nothing but one-line quips. The true greatness of their phone calls was lost on people. It was sad. Number two, when someone gets popular, it can change them. Like PearlJam or Nirvana...both suck(ed) when they became popular and got pissed off. In Utero and Fartology both probably took, like, three days to record. They stopped caring. Same with the Jerkey Boys....they made that god awful movie, etc. I can excuse them because they're a coupla losers that needed the money but most people I can't excuse. Whoever said "you're lucky you don't have friends that like Tool" was saying the same thing...watching posers on TV dancing around in Tool shirts with no clue about Cold & Ugly cheapens the band we love. I'm not saying that I never like something that's already popular, just that I try to find things that are "special" - and nothing can be special when the whole world knows about it. They played like men >twice their age and I was really impressed when I saw them play. >I don't like the album, but live they are great. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! Live they are 100 times worse than on any album. Basically, the drummer just does not play in time. Listen carefully to that Tommorrow song (you guys might have a different version than us down here in Aus). He's having great difficulty just keeping 4/4, and the fills are botched right up. I'd like to see him play Swamp Song.... :) In Australia, Silverchair are a joke (you may have gathered this from the posts from us Australians). They're just there as a cheap Pearl Jam / Nirvana / Seattle type substitute. They play one riff through the whole song, the singer very rarely hits the right notes, and they are generally "sloppy." They'd be great as a garage band, but as an international act... forget it. I could go on for hours, but I won't (in fact I promise I'll never mention Silverchair on this list again, and if I do, I'll punish myself accordingly. Then I'll upload pictures...:). BTW, that attatched file - what the fuck was that all about? I found it fairly interesting reading about Australia's Telstra, but I'm not sure Kabir and Co. in the states really care! Well, at least I know my MIME mail reader works! Now, if only it had MJK's phone number... Since I haven't actually discussed Tool this post, I'm going now. Cheerio! Consider this Mike, if there wasn't a whole heap of try-hards out there who go out and buy a CD just because they see somebody in a film clip wearing a TooL t-shirt, bands like TooL would probably never put out CD's because it wouldn't be profitable. Because there are only a handful of people (compared to say, Nirvana) that like TooL because they play filth music and not just because they saw someone famous wearing a t-shirt. thanks for your time and i hope that all made sense.
