Umm, Shellac. Well, to be totally honest, i have heard their cd only once and although i found it to be interesting, it seemed to me that Steve Albini was repeating his Black Flag days. The songs were kinda of stiff just for the sake of it, and it was like Albini was suppressing them in order not to develop. Also, IMHO Albini has done much better things production-wise (P.J. Harvey's "Rid of Me" was a killer!). Anyway, if you' re interested and you have Web access, there' s a transcript of a cool Steve Albini interview that he gave on-line on the SonicCore Web pages (http://www.sonicnet.com/sonicore/chat/index.html - if you can't get it, e-mail *me* and i'll send it to you). Have to admit there are some songs that get kind of lame, but the ones that are good, are damn good!! I just recently saw them again with Queensryche-still just as good. It is a shame that we have deviated from talking mainly about Tool, but it is kind of hard to talk about something when there is nothing new to talk about. Who was asking about Tool imports/cd's? I recently got imports of Sober and Prison Sex at a local music store (Planet Music), they seem to have an awesome import section. Try special ordering, if you are that interested. There's been a lot of traffic on the list lately, and as someone pointed out, a lot of it is non-tool related. I'd like to take a moment to remind everyone to think before you post. I'm not saying to post only tool-related comments; since we all like tool, presumably we can discuss other similarities in our tastes as well. However, there are an awful lot of "empty" posts - very short messages with nothing in them that pertains to the list. If you want to send someone a "me too" post, do it privately; also, if you think a discussion is really going to go off on a tangent, make that private, too. It's a great way to make a friend, and you won't have to worry about "making it a tool post" by throwing in a random song or concert quote. Personally, I'd rather read twenty lines over why you like Pantera over reading three words over how good tool was at the orpheum last month ("THEY KICKED ASS" or something else I already knew). I'll read anybody's lengthy post if it has some general interest. So, let's keep it interesting! Metallica totally avoids profanity (*almost* completely) and it works for their style of music. Tool uses curses sparingly, and when they do, there is a lot of pent up emotion that is released. That's an effective use. Other bands curse all day, and that does nothing for me. Agree with what you said about Pantera. Their stuff is more of the aggresive nature. And Dimebag is one helluva guitarist. Anyone who says otherwise hasn't really heard them. Try actually playing "Cemetary Gates" and you'll see. I play bass and I've actually found some of Tool's stuf eaiser to pick up by ear than many bands. I picked up Opiate the first week I started playing, which is about 6 weeks ago ;-) But Tool still rules. -Justin Wright =:>- (sign of the goat) ------------------------------ Topic No. 27 Date: 18 Aug 95 00:39:56 EDT From: Justin D Wright <71664.2707@compuserve.com> To: Tool-list Subject: Re: Feeling music Message-ID: <950818043955_71664.2707_EHJ91-4@CompuServe.COM> Feel Metallica?
