The first I ever heard Tool was on MuchMusic (Canada's equivilant to MTV, but less commercials and (no offence) less stupidity. The video was sober. They are kind of Tool-ish in a way as far as distinctive bass and having some feeling in the vocals. The music is cool but how much effort does it take to write a song using nursery rhymes? Like I said, I like the disc, but from my exposure of them they seem like assholes. They were playing at a club in a town that is three hours from here a couple months ago. So a friend of mine and I drove over to check them out. Well, when we got in the door we found out that they had cancelled that day because they didn't like the place. Sorry guys, but that isn't a very good way to get exposure. They could've rocked the shit out of that place too. later scott ------------------------------ Topic No. 13 Date: 18 Aug 1995 17:22:46 U From: "Pete Meincke" To: tool-list@Visix.COM Subject: Re: traffic Message-ID: <9508182120.AA12056@unet.net.com> Reply to: RE>>traffic > >But number is another matter. I guess we should just be glad TooL is not as popular as Nine Inch Nails or Alice In Chains. I understand those lists generate a hell of a lot more mail than this one... Some of those posts yesterday were mine. I just had a lot to say yesterday. But a few were frivolous, and for those I apologize. Those are the exact ones you are complaining about, with good reason. We don't want this to turn in to the typical Usenet site with 3 pertinent posts and 300 "send me one, too!" posts. Unfortunately, unless this turns into a moderated site with someone screening the posts, it's gonna happen. Seems to be the nature of the beast. However, I would much rather have someone post the occasional frivolity than for people to be afraid their comments are going to get blasted for one reason or another and not post anything at all. I'm sorry if I'm coming across as lecturing you, as that is not my intention at all. Just my $0.02... BTW - Since I seem to have become "champion of the digest-format cause" thought I'd let you know that I actually *don't* have mine set to digest. I did for awhile, but by the time I'd get the digest, I just felt a little left behind in the conversations. Now I'd say about 75% of my e-mail is related to this list. The only mail I'm sick of getting from this list (besides the "my band is better than your band" type) are the ones people send who keep complaining they want off the list, but don't know how to do it. They all receive the help file when they subscribe, but I guess nobody keeps those damn things except me. I've personally sent the help file out about 5 times, and who knows how many others have done the same thing. What else can we do except, sigh, and send them the help file... I was thinking of forwarding the help file to the list... I know that my last post on the subject got a bit of negative response, something along the lines of "Hey, that's just your opinion, you shouldn't try to influence others." Isn't that what the whole idea of this list is about? We share opinions on Tool. So maybe I was off topic, but I really hate Silverchair!!!
