08\17\12 Seventeen Years

Yikes. The site turns 17 today, which is probably older than many of you. Even though Tool is generally quiet these days, we’ll take this opportunity to thank you all for coming by over the years! §

I started coming to this site back in early ’96 when it was just a text stream. Ah the early days of the internet… Keep it up Kabir!

  • Jewels

Jesus. I met my husband here 11 years ago. I’m feelin’ old as sin.

I started in 96 also. Was part of the now-defunct forum moderator crew. That sure didn’t last long!

I´ve been a fan of this page since Aenima. Thanks for the hard labour, Kabir. This is “THE” Tool site. I particularly appreciate all your April 1st news. Hehehehe…

  • Anthony

Wow, I think was one of the main sites I checked in my early days of exploring the internet. Here’s to 17 years, Kabir!

  • Stephen

Damm, that makes me feel old now. Been visiting this site almost daily for most of those 17 years. Thansk Kabir for the hard work!

  • heavyglow

Happy b-day Toolshed! I just turned 21 myself.

  • A Alamari

I used to spend a lot of time on the forums here until I forgot my username and password after a four year tour in Iraq. Seems like the main forums are blocked from guests which seems like a great way to keep the trolls at bay, here’s hoping it’s till just as thriving as it was in 2007. Many great times were had here, congrats on the 17 years.

Thank you for continuing to keep this site alive and well! I’ve been a Tool fan for 19 years and I think I’ve been a follower of this site for as long as it has existed. My musical tastes have shifted over the years, but I can always come back to Tool anytime, and I love knowing I can always come here for the latest info. Thanks again!

this site is old enough to drive. haha

I always loved TOOL’s sound. first CD I got was
ænima back in 1998.. I jammed to that CD alot. listened to it hours on end.. but never knew what the hell Maynard was saying, I first came here in 2001.. and after reading the lyrics was the first time I completely feel in love with TOOL. and its not just because of Maynard.. while I like most songs from APC. TOOL is the complete package.. I own all their CD’s a listen to them 70% of the time out of all the other music I have.

Internet Explorer 5 (I think), ICQ, a 33.6 kbps modem that would wake up everyone in the house when dialing/connecting were all the norm when I started coming here back in ’96. Fuck I feel old now…congrats on the milestone b-day toolshed!!!

Man, I was 15 years old when i first came here nearly 13 years ago. I can’t believe it’s been so long. And what…only two albums have come out since then…

P.S. this is by far the best Tool site on the web. I used to read the FAQ here religiously. It’s too bad it hasn’t been updated since July, 2001.

I remember hearing “life feeds on life” and some crazy shit about carrots blaring from my brother’s bedroom what seems like ages ago. I was curious. He would only let me listen to a few songs, but encouraged my interest. A year later (I turned 16) he gave me Undertow and a few years later Ænima.

He and I still have great relationship and have a few conversations about the songs. I know you wanted to waste your time reading that shit, but tool really made an impact and gave two siblings something else to bond over!

  • Atreides

Congratulations. I´ve been visiting this website since 2003.

I had A dream the other night and the dream included A sound only TOOL could do, it was not A heavey song but A most def Tool of today. Weird the dream was alien comig from the sea, Coming from the cold sea after being under for over 100′s of yrs And the music was like electronic but Tools form of now musi. it was scary and weird I wish I could explain better from what I saw In my dream. In the dream it was Alot of aircrafts coming out of sea and the mother ship in the sea had horns like A devil but more obscure. and the music was light but very nerve itching. Later in the dream I look up in the sky and saw thousands of aircrafts unknown to earth and over the dark clouds I saw the horned ship like it was alive but as well very alive as it glowed the earth i A deathly wowb of death to come. The dream ended there but it told me that TOOL is coming soon.

I have been coming here since 1998. I can’t express how great it is to see this still up and running. Thank you, Kabir.

  • ibis

amazing, happy anniversary, Kabir can start a Tooldatingsite here ;)

  • Marc

Wow – 17 years! I remember the early days of this site – when, for example, a concert review would have about 12 reviews. Or when there was an initiative to yell “Chickenweasel” out at Tool concerts, which I did back in ’96 in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Going back this far reminds me of the first time I heard Tool on the radio. I was awestruck. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing – it was unlike anything I had heard before. I was driving home from college and near my girlfriend’s house – I was trying to race there (pre-cell phone and Internet days) just so that she could hear on the radio what was left of this amazing song (I don’t recall if it was Sober or Prison Sex). I made it there in time and she didn’t care for it then – yet I went on to marry her – and she still doesn’t like it today. I guess opposites do attract…

Anyway, I digress – congrats Kabir. Great to still see this site up and running. I hope you are well.

Wow! I’ve been visiting for over 10 years.. deeply appreciate this place. Thank you and congratulations! :) Wishing you more years to come.

  • Travis Green

Been stopping by since “chickenweasel” days. Your FAQ answered my questions as well as guided me toward becoming a more mature fan that recognizes that a consumer of music has a role to play, not only the artist. I hope t.d.n has brought you much joy.

  • Jonathan Holen
