Drop D tuning: DADGBE

V - Palm Mute

~ - Vibrato

H - Hammer On

P - Pull Off

# - Tremolo Pick (to tremolo pick means to pluck the note as many
times as possible.)

grb - Gradual Bend

I didn't mess with tabbing out the rhythm to this song. Just listen to
the CD. I'm just givin' you the notes.

Riff A1	(muddy dist)

	  V......
E}	|---------|
B}	|---------|
G}	|---------|
D}	|---------|
A}	|---------|
D}	|-0H1P0-0-|

Riff A2	(muddy dist)

	  V.... V......
E}	|-----------------|
B}	|-----------------|
G}	|-----------------|
D}	|-------0---------|
A}	|-----------------|
D}	|-0H1P0---0H1P0-3-|

Then full distortion comes in banging out D1 and then D2.

 D1

|---|
|-2-|
|-3-|
|-0-|
|-0-|
|-0-|

 D2

|-10-|
|-10-|
|-7--|
|----|
|----|
|----|

Next it gets muddy dist. again and Adam just bangs on the low D in
time with the drums.

Then full distortion and play this:

				*
E}	|---------------------------------------|
B}	|---------------------------------------|
G}	|---------------------------------------|
D}	|-------7-------7\5-------7-------7/5/0-|
A}	|-5\6/5---5\6/5-----5\6/5---5\6/5-------|
D}	|---------------------------------------|

*Let that open D note ring for a little while then bend behind the nut.
(listen to the song for when)

Riff B1

	    V.. V..	V..
E}	|------------------------|
B}	|------------------------|
G}	|-7-----10-----5---------|
D}	|-7-----10-----5-----3H5-|
A}	|-5-0-0-8--0-0-3-0-0-3H5-|
D}	|---0-0----0-0---0-0-3H5-|

Riff B2

	    V.. V.. V..
E}	|---------------------|
B}	|---------------------|
G}	|-7-----5-----7-----8-|
D}	|-7-----5-----7-----8-|
A}	|-5-----3-----5-----6-|
D}	|---0-0---0-0---0-0---|

Rhythm Fill 1

	    V.. V.. V..
E}	|-----------------------|
B}	|-----------------------|
G}	|-7-----5-----7-----8-5-|
D}	|-7-----5-----7-----8-5-|
A}	|-5-----3-----5-----6-3-|
D}	|---0-0---0-0---0-0-----|

This time when you’re banging out to the rhythm play an open Drop D
power chord with full distortion.

|---|
|---|
|---|
|-0-|
|-0-|
|-0-|

Then it switches to this riff:

Riff C1

E}	|--------------------------|
B}	|--------------------------|
G}	|--------------------------|
D}	|--------------------------|
A}	|-3------5------0-0--------|
D}	|---H5P0---H3P0-0-0-etc...-|

Then it kicks into this riff (“definin’, controllin’” part).

Riff C2

E}	|---------------------------------------------
B}	|---------------------------------------------
G}	|-------------------5-5-----------------------
D}	|-----------------0-5-5-----------------0-5-5-
A}	|-3------5--------0-3-3-3------5--------0-5-5-
D}	|---H5P0---H3P0-0-0-------H5P0---H3P0-0-0-5-5-

	---------------------------|
	---------------------------|
	-------------------3-3-----|
	-----------------0-3-3-3-3-|
	-3------5--------0-1-1-3-3-|
	---H5P0---H3P0-0-0-----3-3-|

Then it goes into the next part (Riff C3) and then to Rhythm Fill 2 and
then into Riff C1 and then back to C2 and finally hitting that D1 chord
and holding.

Riff C3

E}	|---------------------|
B}	|---------------------|
G}	|---------------------|
D}	|-0-3-0---------------|
A}	|-0-3-0-3------5------|
D}	|-0-3-0---H5P0---H3P0-|

Riff C3

E}	|-----------------------------------|
B}	|-----------------------------------|
G}	|-----------------------------------|
D}	|-0-3-0-----------------------------|
A}	|-0-3-0-3------5------3------5------|
D}	|-0-3-0---H5P0---H3P0---H5P0---H3P0-|

After you’ve done the part with the D1 chord Riff D1 comes in.

Riff D1

E}	|-------------------------|
B}	|-------------------------|
G}	|-------------------------|
D}	|-------------------------|
A}	|-----3-----------3-5-----|
D}	|-0-0---5-3H5-0-0-----3H5-|

Then play this solo type thing after you’ve played Riff D twice. After
the solo it’s back to the D1 chord and then Riff D. After that play the
D1 to D2 chord progression just like you did earlier. Then it goes back
to Riff A1 and then to Riff A2. The guitar then drops out and it’s just
bass.

Solo

E}	|---------------------------------------------------|
B}	|---------------------------------------------------|
G}	|---------------------------------------------------|
D}	|---------------------------------------------------|
A}	|-6-5-3H5-6-5\8~-/3H5-6-5-5H6P5H6P5-3H5-6-5\8~-3H5-|
D}	|---------------------------------------------------|

When the distortion comes back in and Maynard yells play Riff A3.
Every 4th time you play Riff A3 play Riff A4 instead.

Riff A3

E}	|-----------------|
B}	|-----------------|
G}	|-----------------|
D}	|-0H1P0-0-0H1P0-3-|
A}	|-0H1P0-0-0H1P0-3-|
D}	|-0H1P0-0-0H1P0-3-|

Riff A4

E}	|---------------------|
B}	|---------------------|
G}	|---------------------|
D}	|-0H1P0-0-0H1P0-3P0-3-|
A}	|-0H1P0-0-0H1P0-3P0-3-|
D}	|-0H1P0-0-0H1P0-3P0-3-|

Then it’s just that muddy sound plam muting an open Drop D power
chord in the same rhythm you played the A riffs. After that part play
this:
	  # # # # #
E}	|--------------------------|
B}	|--------------------------|
G}	|--------------------------|
D}	|-12-10-15-10-12-10-15grb1-|
A}	|--------------------------|
D}	|--------------------------|

Then play this:

E}	|----------------------------------|
B}	|----------------------------------|
G}	|-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-8-7-8-7---5-5\10-|
D}	|-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-8-7-8-7---5-5\10-|
A}	|-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-6-5-6-5-0-3-3\8--|
D}	|-------------------------0--------|

Then this:

E}	|---------------------------|
B}	|---------------------------|
G}	|---------------------------|
D}	|-1P0-0-0-0-0-1-0-1-0-5-0-3-|
A}	|-1P0-0-0-0-0-1-0-1-0-5-0-3-|
D}	|-1P0-0-0-0-0-1-0-1-0-5-0-3-|

Then Riff A5 comes in:

Riff A5

E}	|---------|
B}	|---------|
G}	|---------|
D}	|-0H1P0-0-|
A}	|-0H1P0-0-|
D}	|-0H1P0-0-|

After that just hit that D1 chord in time with the song to end things up
in tradtional Tool fashion.
