Because the low D string is much too low, you must use the high D string. In doing so, it sounds more accurate, or at least it does on my les paul. What I do is I turn the front pickup almost all the way down, (since I have my distortion pedal on all the time) this coupled with a boss distortion pedal should give you a close tone to what you need. d------------------0---------------7h9-----------| a------------------5h7-------------0-------------| D------------------------------------------------| |let ring about four seconds d------------------0---------------7h9p7-----------| a------------------5h7-------------0---------------| D--------------------------------------------------| |let ring about four seconds alternate between the two until you get to parabola. then slowly let on your volume knob. Live I watched Adam play on the Low D string and this sounded much too low, you could see it on his face he wasn't too satisfied. More than likely he used the high D string.
