Parabol and Parabola - Written and Performed by TOOL
Tabbed by José Antilibido (Dragonss@yahoo.com)
Special Thanks: The Guitar Player article on Tool. Without it, this song
would still be in Drop D (And I would be scratching my head in wonder
a lot).
This song can be performed in both Drop D and Drob BE. Because
droping to BE can be tedious for some, I have included both the Drop
D and Drop BE versions. Drop D is a bit easier IMO if you are playing
live because you won't have to retune. There are only 4 parts in the
song that require Drop BE, Part 6, 10, 11 and Part 18. You can still
sound very much like both parts in Drop D, but Part 6 will be a bit hard
to zero in on. Try sliding from 0 to 7. This is a bit mesy, I know. Sorry
if it comes out weird in a different text. It should be viewed in Courier
New

Please bear in mind that I've only been playing for 3 years and to me,
this sounds exact. Im sure there are some parts in here I messed up
but its all pretty close.

A note about the solo, I was first playing the solo all the way down on
the 14th fret but I found it much easier to play on G and B around the
7th fret. Playing the solo on the 14th fret on the D string seems to be
the most popular way to approach it, but scooting it up to higher
strings not only makes the fingering easier (Smaller stretches; You
can pretty much keep your first 3 fingers in the same position the
entire time), but also allows you to get to it much easier. It also
makes switching to the Pinch Harmoincs section of the solo ever so
much easier. =)

Part 1 0:01
D-----------------------
A--0h2---2\3--2\5/2-2-0-0
D--0h2---2\3--2\5/2-2-0-0

Drop BE Version
E---5\7--7\8--7\10/7-7-5-5
B---3\5--5\6--5\ 8/5-5-3-3

(I play this on the D/B string because my distortion is really big. Try
both the single string and the power chord version of this part and see
which one you like.)

Part 2 0:10
B-----------------10h12--12-12-1212----------------10h12p10^
G--7h9--9-9-99-------------------------7h9--9-9-99-----------

Part 3 0:20

B---8--8-8--8-8-8----10-10-101010/5-5-555

Adam adds a octave to the first and 3rd time he plays this riff. Listen
to the CD, you'll see it sounds a bit different.

Part 20 (Ending)
To get the right sound, I turn off my gain and turn all my EQ to 0. It
might sound good with mid at 10, but its all a matter of taste.
