This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

I've finally been grounded back to reality. Tool has the amazing ability to cast a spell of sound through so many levels. It other words the show was good, and I'm not going to spout off the set list. I do know that ticks and leeches wasn't played. I'll see them tomorrow so hopefully I'll see that performed then. His voice didn't seem at all strained from the previous nights performance of that song. They all seemed to be into the music. Osseus Labyrint was pretty cool just to see people that dedicate so much time to something so damn strange. The Melvins were ok I'm not a big Melvins fan, but a lot of there stuff seemed a tad bit drawn out. I'm not going to go on and tell you what color underwear I was wearing and how my friend made fun of me cause I didn't know a name of a song and how we got in a big fight blah blah blah blah like some reviews that have posted here. Fuck all that bullshit. It was a great show the sound could have been a little clearer but hey whatever. It was physically and emotionally moving as always. I will say that pushit and I believe stinkfist had a really nice twist in them that was unexpected. It made the climax of the songs all that more orgasmic. I couldn't think of another word, sorry.

This was this reviewer's 1st? Tool show

First of all, since im sure your all eager to know, here is the setlist. The Grudge Stinkfist 46 and 2 Parabol Parabola Pushit Schism Reflection Disposition Intermission Plus Triad The Patient Ænema Lateralus Anyways, the Concert Started off with a pretty decent performance from the Melvins. It was good, but nothin really special. Then the lights dimmed and Tool started the opening music of The Grudge, and everything was perfect from then on. Some highlights include them playing Pushit, personally my favorite Tool song, and...well basically everything was a highlight. If I had to complain about something(and im a bastard so I do), I would say that there were alot of ignorent people at the show who didn't even know who Tool was, and just wanted an excuse to mosh/bang their heads at something. Anyways Maynard spoke very little the entire night, except for making a crack about the lead singer from The Melvins(I think it was the lead singer) playing Barney, and saying Good evening. Also, he told us before they played the show closer "lateralus" that we should "Travel home safely and together tonight, and while your driving, remenisce about the feeling we have shared to night, and try to turn that feeling into something positive." All and all this has been one of the greatest nights of my life, and I hold Tool in an even higher respect then I did before.

Wow! I just got in from the Tool show in Tampa at the Sun Dome and I must say Tool was just phenomenal! First off, it was really cool to see The Melvins on their first night. They were great, but the crowd did not move at all or do anything while The Melvins were on. Then after they were done the crowd on the floor was getting crazy! (I was on the floor by the way wearing a Pantera Still Fucking Hostile shirt and grey shorts. I have long blonde hair. I know i'm a metalhead, but I love Tool also! ) ;) Once Tool took the stage, the entire floor was just going crazy! It was fun, except for this one guy who kept intentionally pushing and hurting people but he stopped after security talked to him. Anyway, Tool only played material off of Aenima and Lateralus. I personally wouldn't have mind seeing a few songs off of Undertow (my fav. Tool album) and Opiate. I don't remember the full setlist, but I remember that they opened w/The Grudge, then came Stinkfist, then 46 & 2, parabol, parabola, pushit, and schism. I remember that they ended with Lateralus. I also remember them playing aenema, the patient, and triad. The video footage they had on their backdrop was great and the contortionitst were just great! All in all I had a great night and I hope Tool tours the states again in 2002. :)

What you already know: Tool is an incredible live band. Great show, didn't know about Ticks and Leeches yesterday, which is great, because I didn't have to think about missing it tonight. Good, solid, and the visual effects this time were pretty impressive! The Melvins are boring and their songs never end. As usual, there were cro-magnum assholes wearing limp bizkit shirts and just getting drunk and moshing the shit out of everyone, including girls and way smaller kids. Nice one. Here we are trying to get caught up in the moment and just experience that rare "magic" that only bands like Tool can produce, and some dick trips me into the pit. I truly feel there's evolution amongst our own kind, and some people just haven't gotten their good dose of 46+2.. But anyway, enough ranting, the show was great, they're an awesome live band, and there were a few nice people in the crowd.. :)

This was this reviewer's 1st? Tool show

Wow, I just got back from my first Tool show! It was at the USF sundome in Tampa. They put on an excellent show! First, let me start with the opening band. The Melvins I believe. Now, I am a hard guy to please but this band simply rocked. They had a really great sound and a guitarist that played really addictive stuff. Unfortunately, I am not a professional rock critic and I am not really sure how to describe it. All I can say is that they were a great band and I was impressed. They had a very grandiose sound. On to Tool. This concert was so perfect on so many levels. I am a big believer in rock music as an art form, so I was really happy to see the Lateralus material played in such a beautiful way. I am not sure the exact order of the setlist but I do know the songs that were played. They played everything off of Lateralus except Ticks and Leeches. They also played Stinkfist, Aenima, Push It, and Forty Six & 2. I was hoping for Eulogy and Prison Sex, but oh well the show was great. Before they closed the show with Lateralus, Maynard told the crowd to be safe getting home. He also told everyone to remember the feeling they had that night and to make something positive out of it. By the way, I also wanted to point out that the crowd was very attentive even at the most peaceful moments. Great crowd. Well anyway, that was just a short little review/praise but I just wanted to say something because this will probably be the best show I will ever see. I am a really really big fan of rock, and I dont like the current trend its going in. However, it makes me happy to know that a band like Tool can be so successful. They are brilliant musicians, and the lyrics make you think. They put on a no bullshit live show. I'll be sure to see them every time they come down to Florida from now on.

This was this reviewer's 5th Tool show

October 10th 2001: Final tour stop for me. 5/15, 9/29, and 10/10. It was nice to see Tool in Tampa again. I had some reservations about the show being at the Sun Dome, but the sound was much better than I could have hoped for, at least from where I was standing in the front part of the floor. It was an excellent show, all I could have hoped for (until I read reviews of the Ft. Lauderdale show, lucky bastards got Fantomas AND Ticks & Leeches...). I was greatly impressed, as were the friends I came with. Here's the setlist: -The Grudge (-) Ions -Stinkfist -46 & 2 -Parabol -Parabola -Pushit -Schism -Instrumental Jam (Merkaba, maybe?) -Disposition -Reflection -Intermission - Osseus Labrynt -Triad -Eon Blue Apocalypse -The Patient -Aenema -Lateralus Some Highlights: Maynard did the scream at the end of The Grudge, held it out forever too. They played the extended bridge for Stinkfist and the Caught In A Trap lyric. Pushit was the original version, and quite a stirring rendition at that. Osseus Labrynt came out during Schism, doing their head- bobbing thing. Adam played the riff about a thousand times at the end of Reflection as O.L. got on their ropes. Either during the Instrumental Jam or during Triad the drummer from the Melvins came out and lent some extra percussion. Maynard was joking about him being the guy in the Barney outfit (I think it was during the first instrumental). The light show seemed alot more colorful last night than on the other shows I've seen. Lots of bright colors, it didn't seem like a really dark show at all. There were only a few mosh pits (which was ok by me), but only during the first few songs -- after 46 & 2 there were no pits until Aenema, and that was a too-little too-late pit that started near the end of the song, and totally in the wrong part. All in all it was an excellent show, I went home happy. Ticks and Leeches would have been great, but you can't get everything!! I'm out, be good to one another.

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

This is from a person who was strung up on the third level and still got the full feel of the show... The Sun Dome is a horrible place for a concert, but Tool definitely proved themselves last night as they rocked the house and sounded PERFECT to my ears. The Melvins...Were scary. My friend and I sat there and ragged on them the whole time. I'm sorry for anyone who did enjoy them, but if I can't understand the words and don't get the fashion sense they have, I normally don't like the band. I didn't quite get the fro either... When Tool came on finally after they reset the stage (anticipation sucks...by the way.) The mood in the arena totally changed. They performed as true musicians should, and sounded excellent despite the Sun Dome's acoustical problems. I was very happy that they played my favorite songs from AEnima, as well as Parabol/Parabola from Lateralus, my new favs, but I was disappointed that they didn't play anything from Undertow. I was at least expecting Sober to be an encore or maybe Disgustipated. But overall they sounded fantastic and I loved Maynard's comments about Barney and about doing something positive. It really made the night worth it all.

Well I won't post a setlist for obvious reasons... but Tool did put on a good show last night. It was not quite as good the Ft. Lauderdale show, as Maynard didn't screw up Schism in Ft. Lauderdale. Other than that (and Ticks and Leeches :P) the show was the same. Dale from the Melvins played with Danny on TRiad, the same way Dave Lombardo did the night before. It was good to hear them play the Patient, as it was the only song from Lateralus they didn't play the night before. Although I am a much bigger fan of their newer stuff, I was disappointed by the lack of Undertow, and Opiate songs. Maynard did mention that Dale of the Melvins is the guy in the purple dinosaur outfit... Anyhow, tonight in ORlando should be good as well, Hopefully they'll put another surprise in the setlist.

Great show!!! Security had us behind a white line about four feet from the barricades up until about five minutes before the Melvins came out. It was the most retarded thing I though, and they gave us no warning before allowing us all to be bum rushed. Oh well...I still got my place, front and center. The Melvins opened up and prior to the show, I had no idea what to expect. The leads vocals are very unique and I like them very much, the second song (I believe) in the set was mesmerizing... Great band. Id like to see what they have out there, Id certainly give it a listen. Tool came out and opened with "The Grudge". From the onset of TOOLs appearance on stage the attitude of the crowd changed dramatically. From packed to ...well..more than merely packed. The crowd grew..dare I say..violent? Fortunately it did ease up during songs like reflection, but you did have the occasional ass with no regard for the others around him. Personally, I dont think the crowd should ever be able to subtract from the experience of a live show, unfortunately they can at times, and if anything subtracted from TOOL's show , it was the crowd. The sound was great, and considering it was at the Sun Dome, thats amazing. Osseus Labyrint were incredible..they seemed to contort their bodies in time with the music. Just like the images on the screens throughout the entire show, they were different, almost paranormal and beautiful to watch. Maynard said very little, but Im sure you've already read that Im debating whether I want to be on floor or in seats for tonights show. Im very very sore, and want to be able to enjoy the show. On the other hand...what if the Orlando crowd is considerably more bearable...*sigh* ..decisions decisions....Take care all! Ill never miss TOOL again.

Wow, this show was fantastic. Tool was everything that I expected, and then some. The setlist was awesome, and the visuals were the best that I have ever seen in a concert. Wow. On a side note, could someone post a setlist of what the Melvins played? I thought that they kicked some major ass, and I'd like to listen to some of their stuff.

I have to say, this was the most intense concert i've ever been to. Not only for the music and the show (which were unsurpassed) but the deep meaning behind this tour. The feeling I got from the show, was to "take all the emotions you've had from tonight and make something positive with them" as Maynard said towards the end of the show. Their entire new album is very uplifting and spiritual. TOOL ROCKS! Oh, and like someone else said, the sound quality of the Dome was pretty bad, but TOOL shined through!

This was my first Tool Show.. I thought Tool put on a great show- I was in the gen adm seating front row dead and center. The crowd sucked!! I dont see that the point of pushing is when you're really not going to get any closer to the stage... People are extremely ignorrant. I went there for the music (I'm a music major) I love Tool, But the people who crowd surf and mosh and push do not obviously care about the music- they are wannabes. If they cared they would be peacefully listen to the music, while I know Tool can get the crowd riled up, there are limits.. C'mon people, GROW UP and appreciate the band!! Go Tool! You are awesome!

This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

This was my 3rd TOOL show on this tour, and I must say, the most outstanding. Seeing TOOL is like seeing a morphing work of Art in progress. If one can get past the insane intensity of the product, and diving a little deeper, one can actually pay attention to the nuances of the TOOL performers as Artists and not rock/alt rock/metal musicians only. THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE. Anyone can play the same lick or the same 3 chords over and over again all night. Once they fixed the sound which was heavily distorted until about the end of Stinkfist, the clarity was amazing. Part of seeing TOOL is seeing how the people react to what TOOL puts out. Being a college campus, most of the crowd were students from what I could gather. Though I did see a couple in their 50's which I think is phenomenal. Being in that type of crowd, there will always be a good blend of people who came to EXPERIENCE TOOL vs people who came to beat the shit out of themselves and others. But the duality is what creates an interesting forum for performing Art. I think TOOL knows this instinctively and has altered their songs to this understanding without jeopardizing their music or output. This, again, puts TOOL on a pedestal. But its the little things that make TOOL so special. Maynard never takes center stage. Even the songs where his vocals are powered up, his voice still is only a quarter of an ensemble and never overpowers. This is so rare for a lead singer to lay back and let the band's energy control the vibe. Danny Carey still blows me away. His subtle segways into very complex polyrythyms are one of the elements that make him one of the world's premier drummers. These guys are not kids. They are accomplished musicians and Artists and this particular observer hopes that they continue on this path, for it is one of tumultuous and spectacular things....

What an awesome show. We drove all the way from Daytona to see these guys again this year. First time was in Atlanta. Im just glad that I didnt have to wait in line for 3 hours because of fake tickets. Parking was a total pain in the ass so i just did some illegal parking and went inside. Security was tight but not tight enough....I still got my mini- disc inside with no problem. We missed all but the last song by the Melvins. Sorry, but they just suck. After about 30 min or so of waiting the lights drop, I fire up the recorder and Tool walks out! The Grudge was and always will be an awesome opener. What was up with the bass in the sundome? Despite the fact the bass was messy the sound was great. I stood about 50 feet back and dead center on the floor. The crowd was ok, except for that fat loser who kept asking everyone for hits of acid. Goddamn it, this is not a Greatful Dead show. If your fat ass didnt weigh 600 pounds I would have kicked your ass, and do you have to scream every word to every song? Awesome set. Pretty much standard set except for Patient which is the one song that I wanted to hear from the new album. I was hoping for the slow version of Pushit but maybe tonight in Orlando will that happen. The guitar solos were amazing as was Triad. Maynard was rather untalkative perusual, but thats just how it is. Nice extra line in Stinkfist and extended solos on the other songs. At right around 2 hours it was the best Tool show that I've been to ever. The show in Atlanta back in May was awesome but this had a better set. I didn't miss the Undertow material but I would love to hear some Opiate songs. Hush or Cold and Ugly would be amazing.....os Maynard if you are reading this there is a little request. Ill send ya a copy of the Tampa or Orlando shows if you play it :) All in all it was the most fun that I have had in a long time. I just want to give a big shout out to the queer street team losers that would not shut the hell up for the last 30 min of the show. ya you know who you are. Dickface #1 in the Dead Kennedy's shirt and Dickface #2 with the duffelbag. Pass out your shit after the show you moron. Peace out and Ill be back later today to write a new review for the O-town show. If you taped the WPB or any other recent shows email me for a trade. If you didnt tape it and would like it you can email me too. I would trade for some good pictures of this show. No copies, only original prints.

Going to my first Tool show was, for me, the spiritual equivalent of a Catholic meeting the Pope. Starting off with the God-sent guy who hooked me up to get on the floor (I would have been on the second level, thanks Nick). The show was incredible. There was so much energy connecting us with the band members. The songs sounded amazing live. It was a little disappointing to see all the moshing retards who just don't get what Tool stands for. Although, the pits at this show were relatively peaceful compared to other shows I've been to. It was cool to see so many together sharing in the whole experience, though. Thank you Reverend Maynard and Tool.

Setlist was already posted, so I won't say it again. Got to the concert at 7:30, saw the melvins, bought the tank with the Lateralus eye on it, which happens to fit me, scoped the Dome out (it's small, and the soundworks definately weren't that great, but it didn't matter) The show was /awesome/, and as someone else said, though the sound was crappy (well, the echoes from bouncing off the walls), Tool literally shone through with great preformance. I haven't said anything that hasn't been said so far, so I will, and I hate to point out the mistakes, but Rev'd. Maynard, who was dressed in black on black, with black facepaint, messed up some of Schism, then at the end when they played Lateralus, (which no one seemed to know the words to) is one of my personal faves off that album. During Ænema, almost everyone was standing, singing along. Adam played the end riff of Reflection over and over and over and...get the point. The Osseus Labrynt were amazing. They hung from their ankles for at least 15 minutes. What a trip. It was an experence I'll never forget. Thanks Tool for a great show, and for coming to Fla at all.

This show was great.. but not as good as Ft. Lauderdale, the main reason being for me is that the sound didnt seem as great... BUT then again, they also played The Patient... No one really recognized the song much, but it was sung beautifully and therefore everyone appreciated it... Surprisingly, no songs yet AGAIN were played from Undertow or Opiate... I am dying to hear just one or two... and I'd love for Maynard to throw in H or Eulogy... but i doubt that'll happen... The crowd, to me, seemed much more responsive tongiht than last night... and the pit was INSANE.... absolutely insane.. thankfully i had really good seats right by the stage... I wont go thru the setlist, but when Stinkfist came on, the crowd literally ERUPTEd... it was awesome.. everyoen in the place got into that one... Danny Carey... he is fucking unreal... he blows me away every time i hear them play live.... and Adam, though usually very expressionless as are the rest of the band, seemed to really get into it a few times over the night, especially during the extended bridge in stinkfist... that ROCKED.... Maynard was rocking his body back and forth at an unrealistic pace... so much passion for their music is displayed every time i see them live... true musical genius... ....till tomorrow..... Orgasmic really is the best word. Missed the Melvins, heard I didn't miss all that much. The visuals were by far the best I have ever seen, and just that along with contortionists justified the ticket price. The music....well, it was breathtaking of course. I walked away 100% content with the show. The crowd in Tampa on the other hand, sucked. A bunch of radio fans, to see people bored during Reflection and the Patient nearly broke my heart. It seemed like the fans I saw at the APC show earlier this year were much more into what was going on. So I just screamed louder to make up for my compatriots lack of ethusiasm.

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. All I can say is Wow... The experience I had last night was something I thought I could only dream. The raw emotion of the sound combined with elaborate visual presentation and the sub-sonic rumble of the earth was, well what can I say overwhelming. I don't know how good of a "Review" this will be because i can't seem to put into words exactly what happened. I guess everyone got kind of swept away, there was so much going on, something for everyone I suppose. Wheather you were hypnotized by the crystal clear vocals, the raw power of the motion of the music, or the incredible visual stimuli, everyone had an experience. What really amazed me was the contrast that existed, listening to the music and seeing all the weird and sometimes disturbing images, there was still this completely positive atmosphere. The energy that existed, that the band poured out and the audience reciprocated was so pure. I was truly amazed....I don't know what else to say except I advise everyone to see this band!WOW I hope they know how amazing they are (smile)

To sum it up in one word the Oct. 10th Tool show @ the SunDome was breathtaking. As I'm sure others have commented on, the stage setup was amazing and the preformance artists (from the Schism video) have my undying respect. Course the music itself was by far the highlight of the evening. Maynard's voice is even more beautiful and intense live then on the Cd's. Adam, Danny, and Justin are extemely talented musicians. I didn't write the setlist down, but i believe it was mainly songs from Lateralus and Aenima, with one song from Undertow and none from Opiate. The Grudge, The Patient, Schism, Parabol/Parabola, Pushit, Stinkfist, Deposition, Lateralus, and Aenima where among the songs played. At one point, and I'm sorry to say I don't remember which song it was on (ticks and leeches?), the drummer from the Melvins joined Tool on stage. The mood in the arena was intense, and despite the fact that I was rather far from the stage...the music deeply moved me. Needless to say, seeing Tool live for the first time is an experience I hope to keep with me for a long time.

(sorry for my late post..) Well, see.. I'm from Texas and I got shipped off to Tampa for a week of work at the last minute. Last time I was to come down, 2 buildings in New York fell down. Now, I'm dealing with Anthrax.. Needless to say I wasn't to stoked to be in Florida. Until I drove by the Sun Dome.. Blink Blink Blink.... TOOL 10/10! It's been 4 years since my last show. I already have Dallas and Houston tickets. I busted a 180 + headed for the venue.. It's 5:30 and people are already starting to gather. Can you believe the show wasn't sold out yet? It took 2 minutes to find a scalper and he had floor tickets for.. List on them for $35.00, his price $60.00.. WOW!! do the math 35.00 + 15.00 CV + Tax.. All good signs so far.. Melvins, You rock! I think they played for 45 minutes, they ended up playing for 25 mins straight at least! They did get great cheers from the crowd ending their show, as well they should. If only most of them knew... Tool.. is about the music, the feeling, the art. Even their stage setup with Maynard, painted in black face, taking away the 'front' man approach produces the necessary ambiance to let yourself go. Being at the Sun Dome and with this crowd I felt like I was seeing Tool at a local venue. The Mosh pit was not a stirring beast with many kids riding on my head. I was in heaven. It took 3 mins to get 3rd row, just in front of curly haired Justin. I'm so happy he is the bassist for Tool. Adam's performance was the core of the show.. He even BROKE A STRING! Something I haven't seen from him yet. He is so solid, always on.. and man his riffs.. well you know. He does get better with age. Danny is still the master. When Dale Crover, Barney, joined on stage I could feel the energy level raise from Danny. It was quite a treat to see them feed off of each other. Maynard working on his little six string and with Adam and Justin so in tune.. I felt like I was in their living room. This show is up at the top of my list because I got to see the whole damn thing without having someones foot on my head. Thanks Tampa! much love. LET GO LET GO LET GO LET GO LET GO LET GO LET GO

well to start i drove all the way from mississippi to see tool and i gota tell all of you out there. it was well worth the drive. there show totaly kicked ass. it opened up with the melvins playing a tremendously good set (mad props to the melvins) and it was great. when tool came on they had 2 huge projecter screens at the top of the stage and maynard had his own personal smaller screen which all played the same thing. there where images of music videos when they played stink fist and shizim. the rest of the time it was various animations done by adam that where very trippy. they opened there set by playing grudge with the lateralus eye circle logo on the screens and boy did that shit rock. they also played songs such as ÆNEMA, disgustipated, push- it and 2 instramentals. one done with the drumer from the melvins and the other i believe is on the salival disk but i'm not sure. at any rate if any of you haven't baught tickets to see a show near you. do it; it is well worth the money and or drive it might take to get there.

This was this reviewer's 5th Tool show

I was lucky enough to have made it to Atlanta on 05/15, Tampa 10/10 and Orlando 10/11. Rather than bore you with how blown away I was, I want to post a single point to others who may be as fortunate as I... If you have the opportunity to see back to back shows, do not hesitate to attend both. The setlists of Tampa and Orlando were completely different. For lack of a better illustration, Tampa was a Lateralus show and Orlando was an Undertow show... They were both amazing but I am thankful to have seen Orlando to share in so many of the "older" songs that have secured Tool and what they are today. Out.

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

Well this was my first show by TOOL ever and I must say I was entranced beyond belief. I didn't do anydrugs at the concert or anything, cuz I don't do drugs, and it pissed me off that a bunch of wiggers and people who don't even know the songs went to the show just to smoke weed probably. I don't think you would have needed drugs for that concert. What can I say about the concert, I guess I can only sum it up in 3 words... "amazing beyond belief." I went with my dad and friend Collin and if TOOL comes around my dad said he'd take me which kicks some ass but anyways if you haven't been to a show I suggest that you go because you will be mezmorized... By the way is anyone has any pics of the symbols next to Danny Carey's drum set or the purple one on the side of the stage or even knows what they are PLEASEEEEEE email me and tell me at res07568@gte.net... Thanks if you do... GREAT SHOW!

This was this reviewer's 7th Tool show

First of all thanks to Kabir for all his hard work maintaining this site throughout the years, great work! The setlist has already been posted so I shall not bore you with it again nor will I complain about ticketmaster or anything else or share any of the small problems therre are with the arena tour, instead let's stick to the good stuff :) My brother and I drove to Florida from Chattanooga to take in as many Tool concerts as we could during a week of vacation and the past four nights have been amongst the coolest nights of my life. The concert was held at the USF Sundome, a college basketball arena located on some campus in Tampa. For an arena show the very was pretty small and thee were not many seats in the place I would consider "bad seats". We were seated in section E which is just to the left of the stage over the left front stage speakers so I had an unimpeded view of the entire stage for the whole show (nice!) The show began right on time, The Melvin's came out and played a solid 4 minutes to a lukewarm reception. The crowd did not boo them but there was very little enthusiasm for their performance. Having seen The Melvin's a couple times before as Tool openers I personally felt like they put on a great show. It is a pleasure to watch their drummer, Dale Crover work and knowing the the members of Tool have so much respect for The Melvin's alone should convince the unwashed to give them a chance but there is no accounting for the taste of others. Anyway Justin Chancellor came out and watched the majority of The Melvin's performance from the left side stage and looked to be enjoying the show. the set lasted just about 45 minutes on the button and they abruptely stopped and left the stage. The Melivin's gear was set up on the front of Maynard's stage and Danny's drum kit with Tool's setup already staged around them. There was a 30 to 35 minute break in bettween and Tool went on at just about 8:50pm. As i am sure you know by now they opened with The Grudge, a powerful and hard song the immediately lifted the energy level of the place. The stage had Two large video screen mounted side by side about 10 to 15 feet off the ground and a small video screen on Maynard's mini-stage in the left rear of the stage. All fo the screens showe the same images during the show while the two large screens showed mirror images, reflections if that makes sense of each other. As always the images and clips played during the show were powerful and moving and really enhanced the experience. One of the really tough things about going to a Tool concert for me at least is the battle in your mind over what to watch, the band or the video screens. Tool has never been about the members ego's or self glorification but having the chance to see them perform is a wonderous thing. The images on the video screens are really neat and are there to enhance the experience. As always I ended up dividng my time between the screens and the stage. Maynard's frantic jig, letting the music push him around is a mezmerizing thing, not unlike some sort of twisted belly dancer he sways and convulses with the music. Danny Carey on his golden throne makes playing extremely complicated powerful, beautiful music look effortless Adam and Justin as always played a solid show again making it all look easy with no showboating. The Osseous Labyrinth, the performers from the schizm video joined Tool on stage during Schizm walking on their fingers and toes and waging their heads back and forth. those are some amazingly strong and flexible people, if you have an opportunity to see them on the tour or have to seek them out elsewhere you will be amazed by thier skills. they barely resembled humans in the contorted pose in which they roam the stage. During the song and as the Osseous Labyrinth are on stage Maynard picked up a GUITAR!!! and joined the other guys in an extended instrumental section of Schizm. Good stuff:) They made another, more astounding appearance later in the show during a heartpounding rendition of Triad. The peformers scaled two ropes in the center of the stage naked and painted silver as before while there was a sound like frogs croaking playing through the PA. They dangled upside down and met in an embrace. they felt each other and then pushed apart as though they had come to the realization that they were clutched toghther with an alien or something other than what or who they were seeking. Danny started it out with that amazing intro and then to my surprise Dave, the drummer for the Melivin's came out and jumped on a small kit set up in the front of the stage and joined in then Maynard and Justin and Danny all joined in one at a time in what for me was a sensory overload. the screens were flashing images the Osseous Labyrinth were doing a bizarre upside down tortured dance and the stage was just on fire with musical energy. This was a serious highlight for me, so much going on and it was all good. A few more songs and they closed with the title track from Lateralus and a message from maynard to the crowd, to take your feelings and create something positive using the emotion and feeling from this experience, a message that drew a great applause from the crowd. After the final song Maynard and the guys threw their excess water bottles to the crowd and tred to get some up into the bleachers and Danny threw a drum head like a frisbee into the crowd on the second teir of seats, they met in a group embrace and waved goodnight to us all. A complete success, a great show and a fantastic begining to a great four nights. A Tool concert is an experience like no other, if you have the chance to go to one you must do it. My only soap box message will be this: If you are afraid of the human body, homophobic or just like to go get wasted at concerts and act like an idiot please stay away from Tool concerts, there will be nudity, you might catch a glimpse of a silouhette of a penis or see one on a screen if this bothers you so much you have to start shouting about gay people no one wants you at the show, don't screw up everyone elses time by being a moron and complaining, save your money and time and stay home..... End Rant The message is great, the Music is incredible and the concert adds a new element of understanding Thank you Tool for providing us with another experience that will never be forgotten! Spiral out, spiral out, spiral out.....................
