This was this reviewer's 4th Tool show

the show: intro --> Sober The Grudge (-) Ions Maynard: "Knoxville?" Crowd cheers. "You don't sound very sure about that..." Crowd cheers some more. "Ok, show of hands, you guys have on your thongs?" Crowd cheers and raises hands. "Good, we can proceed." Stinkfist (White Lines) H. intro --> Schism intro (similar to Eon Blue Apocalypse) --> Parabol Parabola Maynard: "And now a word from our sponsor." 'Question Authority' (Leary) --> 'Drugs' (Hicks) --> Third Eye --intermission-- Disposition Reflection Triad (feat. Meshuggah) Maynard: "Thank you Meshuggah." The band huddles together for 'positivity speech' in which Maynard says, "Thank you for sharing this moment with us. I hope you leave inspired, feeling bliss." He then mentions going out and "pursuing dreams" and doing "something positive." Lateralus thoughts: I was amazed by this show. Tool came to little ole Knoxville, took the stage in one of the worst acoustic wastelands, and rocked. Period. The sound was amazingly good, the band was tight, and there were little glimmers of improv and experimentation. Adam played some nice harmonic variations during the 'Saturn comes back around' verse of The Grudge, and as usual, Danny explored incredible tom territory during Triad. And sweet merciful crap, Third Eye. The Leary track runs, and you think 'Can it be?' Then the Hicks track runs and you know it can, in fact, be. It was worth everything-- crummy weather, sad parking, double security searches-- just to see this song live. It was a wonderful show guys, and the oft-neglected East Tennesseans thank you.

The setlist above is right. It was a fuckin' great start, and everything was awesome to "intermission". The jam with Meshuggah was good, but after that things got a little dull. They did manage to close with a bang, and it was definitely a good first experience with Tool. Maynard was wearing entirely black leather with a black stripe from his chin to the back of his head, about the width of the middle of each eye. The rest of the guys wore streetclothes. Pretty tame, from pictures I've seen, but it didn't detract from the show at all. As a side, I think Maynard was playing a Gibson SG guitar at times, but I was too far back to tell. If anyone knows for sure, I'd like to know. p.s. if the girl in section R seat 12 is reading this, you are one pretty, kind girl. I had a hard time keeping my eyes off of you...thanks for you and your friend for telling me some of the song names, you helped make it a good show for me...

Just returned..... my mind is burnt out now from such a unbelievable show. Knoxville Collisieum is the smallest venue i have seen them play at, it was so intimate and awesome. i was on the floor, the only way to go, and they played the greatest set list. I personally think they hold a special place in their hearts for us here in the Smokey Mountains. It rained off and on all day, and was slightly chilly, but inside it was stiflling humid, which rocked, we all transended into our basic life forms, raw animal spirits, and Tool played and played, they played like ive never seen them play before out all the shows ive been to. Ive never seen a pit at a TOOL show so viscious and brutal, it was awesome to watch. Meshuggah rocked the fucken house, everyone really liked them and i think they liked the crowd. Set listeroma: SOBER ----->Brought out the animals in all of us The Grudge----> excellentayyy Stinkfist )EXTENEDED) ---> Bad arse H. ----> So awesome, Adam rules on guitar Schism---> goodness , Great bass playing Justin Parabol-Parabola--> Fired us up THEN MAYNARD SAID: "AND NOW A MESSAGE FROM OUR SPONSOR" ANd i knew for fucking sure they were going to play THIRD EYE, i went fucking ballistic, AND THEY PLAYED THIRD EYE, I CAN DIE A HAPPY MAN!!!!! INTERMISSION: People stood on others shoulderes to fire the frenzied crowd up. Lots of smoke, and purple hazeee. DISPOSITION: i love the mood of the whole song Reflection: When maynard does that cool think in the begginning with his voice, that rocks. so awesome. TRIAD: WHOLY SHITZER!! the messuggah drummer came out and he and Danny had a fucking drum battle, it was so awesome, they played forever on that. all smiles from the two. Speech""TAke this moment and do great things, make something postive from it." Really great like the real early speaches in the lateralus tour. really inspiring. LAteralus: Sucha great closer.... i almost cried. Band huge, about 20 water bottles tossed to the crowd, all smiles from the band. Encore: psych just kidding. Man my throat is buring, my legs ache, and i LOVE IT. Id go to ever show if i could man.. so awesome... Great time, great time.... COMe back TOOL..... You are awe inspiring. HEheaehhe aight im done typing peace peoplea.

And huge thanks to Tool and anyone who made this show possible. I doubt they'll come back here for a long time. I had to miss the show in Nashville last year, and this totally made up for it. The crowd didn't warm up till Stinkfist, but I think it sank in at that point that this was something special. Rock isn't dead, thank god for Tool.

The set list above is right, and all I can say is oh my god! This show was freakin great! The sound in the civic center sucks but Tool still rocked the house and to me is one of the greatest live bands of all time. Either way to answer the guys question about maynard playing a guitar, yes. I was in Section N1 Lower Balcony and saw great. The Meshg. band is very unique but their not my style. Triad rocked the house with the Meshg. drummer adding in. At the end the crowd gave a much needed cheer to Tool and the band members waved etc. Tool looked like they had a great time playing for Knoxville and I appreciate them coming here.

Geeze. This was my first Tool concert ever, and I have to say that it freakin rocked. Everyone of the songs was performed amazingly. The lights were an excellent addition as well. One of my fav. parts was the Triad Danny/Meshuggha drum thing. That was totally AWESOME!!! That's the best drumming I've ever seen in my life. I would have liked to heard Opiate or Ænema, but I can't complain because it was such a great show. I was in section B this time, but the next Tool show I go to I'm definitely going to be on the floor. Keep on rocking Tool.

I was blown away and was also happy to hear, H. and Third Eye, the show was amazing and hopefully it inspired the "rednecks" around here to do something more with their life. Hopefully they will come back soon, until next time.. "think for yourself, question authority".

The Setlist is correct. This being my first Tool show in my "hometown", i was quite anxious to see how the Knoxville fans would react. My first (and most dissappointing) was standing in line listening to kids talk about Linkin Park and other LESSER bands. Upon entering the complex i was patted down and searched (this being the first time someone at the show grabbed my crotch). Then after that search was complete another security guy decided to search me (second time someone at the show grabbed my crotch). Some random person : "God you are fuckin' tall man!" So meshugga comes on and i feel as if i am the ONLY person in the state of Tennessee who has any clue to the Lyrics. The male horromones rage and boring slamdancing begins. I recall hearing the lead singer of Meshugga (sorry i forgot his name) saying (as their set was closing) somethig to the effect of "They are going to come out and kick ass for you guys!" He did not lie! I will not go over the set list again, and it would be redundant to rave over how great Tool is, but fuck it! TOOL is the greatest living band! I had never heard the "Elvis" version of stinkfist and it was a very nice surprise (Maynard did not even tell any of us to suck his dick) And on a related note my crotch was grabbed at least 5 more times by random humans by the time "Third Eye" played. After that i lost count. Between EVERY song at least one person said something to the effect of "Fuck, you are tall!" Again, the show kicked ass! Within the span of 1.5 weeks i have seen : Guided By Voices, Lords of Acid, The Pink Sexies, The Tyrades, The Lids, Meshugga, and TOOL. I can honestly say that this show eclipses all others i have seen this week, or in my entire life!(sorry Trent, NIN is good but FUCK this was a GREAT show!) If you like TOOL, even a little, fucking sell everything you own and get ticketd to a show! And i will admit it, I sang along with every song, got in the car drove home listening to Lateralus and cried sheer tears of joy. TOOL TOOL TOOL I'll see you on the other side!

Okay I think this setlist is right. Sober Ions Stinkfist H. Schism Third Eye Intermission Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus Meshuggah was not as bad as I thought they would be. My sister got one of their member's autographs at the mall the day before which was cool. I have to say this concert was soooooo much better than the one I saw in Charlotte, NC last year. This concert had such great moments like that time I had binoculars out and Maynard turned around and I swear to God I think he saw them and turned arround and faced the other way as if to say "No Close up for you!" Anyway, yeah I am glad they played Third Eye. I was really looking forward to that. Wonderful show.

this is my second show, my first being nashville about this time last year. and while tool is always great, this show kinda sucked for me b/c, except for third eye, the setlist was EXTREMELY similar to the nashville show. i was hoping for more songs i hadn't heard played live before.... but enough complaining, i got to see THIRD EYE!!! :-) totally awesome. i actually thought they were tighter in nashville but they certainly played around with the songs more this time--i like improvisation. overall, though, i can't complain... a great live show by the best live band around... oh yeah, did i mention third eye?? ;-)

This was this reviewer's 3rd. Tool show

The setlists above are correct. I walked down the stairs to the floor and as i was walking through the hall a door opened. Out popped Justin Chancellor on a kid's bike and into another door on the other side, right in front of me. He looked up and said hey after i almost ran into him before i realized who it was. That alone made my night. I was suprised that Tool came to a shitty place like K-Town but, hell, I can't complain since I live here. In fact, the crowd was much better than either greenville, sc, or winston- salem(smokers). Maynard looked at the crowd for most of the night, a major change from winston-salem and greeneville back in august. The whole band was really into everything tonight, it was absolutely amazing. As for the songs, sober was a great opener, the visuals kick ass on this one stinkfist with the added lyrics and extra bridge takes it to the next level. H.-Adam makes this one a favorite third eye-need i say more? triad gets better every time i hear it, the improv is awesome That's enough rambling, the show kicked ass and so does TOOL. Go see them, and i'll see you on the other side...

Setlists are correct. I was no more than 5 people back from the guard rail at any time during the show and damn was it violent. Meshuggah pits were pretty bad and there was a whoooole lot of shoving during the first 10 or so minutes of Tool. One girl in front of me fainted and had to leave, I hope she's alright. Despite the violence there was a lot of positive energy down there. Security was very good and supressed any beginnings of something majour. Everyone seemed to have a good time; most of the fans loved it and the band seemed very happy at the end. There wasn't that much moshing to the left side but that's okay. I could see a lot of people swaying which is always good. I saw one or two people just standing and not moving, kinna' pissed me off, but oh well. Not my problem. "Variable Songs" : Sober was a nice start, even though it's very decadent and depressing it got us riled up. H. was simply great. Third Eye.. oh man, that was incredible. As soon as Maynard said "And now a word from our sponsors..." I knew it was coming. I sincerely hope you all get to witness this masterpiece in person. And lastly, "damn you" to the two guys on both my sides that got drum sticks. Great show, go see Tool :)

Another few notes: - Triad was sooo much better than Roanoke. The Meshuggah guys were great.. the DJ dude was wearing a welding-face-mask-thing and the drummer came out in a Tool hoodie and everyone thought he was another technician until he started flailing on the toms. Greatness. - I believe Maynard said 'Now, how many of you have your thumbs? ... Good, we can proceed' because he held up a fist, and then they played Stinkfist. Not "thongs," Maynard's not a moron. :P

I agree with the writer above. Some couldn't be in it from the start. I have loved Tool since the day Undertow came out. If I could have been able to hear them earlier I would have liked them then. Also, I was very young and couldn't travel to concerts, or buy all the CDs. But in response, it is bullshit that people get on here and tell about their Tool experience, and then have a waste that has no life post things like "children...mumble..bah" just insult fellow fans. We are all Tool fan wether you were in it from the start or started when you first heard them last night. So let be and shut the fuck up!

("I'm caught in a trap, I can't get out, because I love you too much baby," etc.). I hadn't heard him do that before at least :) Douglas

yay. that was great. I'm in work now typing this the morning after the concert. I live in Johnson City and had to drive through what can only be called a hurricane with huge trucks bearing down on every side of my little car, but it was so worth it. My thoughts on individual songs: Intro(razor circle, flaming eye, etc...): GREAT! I love the anticipation this creates. Sounds like a symphonic orchestra tuning up. Sober: Great. Alot better than the 1st time in cinncinatti(aug 31). Adam seemed to have some guitar trouble as he kept motioning to his right with some "guitar tech sign language". The Grudge: Awesome. The backdrop is mind-boggling. I love the new videos for this. Very Jungian in many interesting ways. Stinkfist: This was the song that the crowd loved. How could you not?? It demands that you sway to the rhythm. I love the extended middle. When Danny plays the sampled percussive part that is normally at the begining it sent chills through the whole place. H.: Great song, crappy videos. Overall this was great. The "I don't mind" part at the end always throws off the crowd, and Maynard hit it as high and with as much ferocity as on the album. Great. Schism: Feh. Its a good song, but I've heard it waaay to much. The videos kind of were,,,,ungood. Ok though. Parabol/a: I love this. I used to hate this song, but after hearing it enough and seeing it live I think it is the best song they perform live. The videos, lighting, song, and lyrical message all line up perfectly. Third Eye: Hmm, it was ok... :) BEST song of the night!!! R/T/D: Triad is the best inmo. I moved up to the very front and side on the lower balocony for this to really take it in up close. It was alot better than in cincinatti. Lateralis: Great. I love the vox/drum only verse. Tribal as hell. Amazing At times the crowd seemed dull. Lots of UT kids that had nothing better to do I guess. Oh, and the girls there..... holy crap. Just sitting in the stands watching the hot girls walk by was enough for me. :)

Very good show, the visuals were alot better than last year in Atlanta, though the sound wasn't near as good. I was pretty much parallel with the big screens so I didn't see much of them, but that doesn't matter, I could read the expressions on the band members' faces and that was even better. It was odd because Meshuggah was actually accepted quite nicely, alot of cheering and people getting into it, I can give that much to Knoxville. I know for alot of Tool fans that the heavier shit like that doesn't quite fly, but I thought they performed great. Oh and if you fucks in the seats in my section want to sit down, then go see a fucking Yanni concert, this is Tool, show some damn respect if we want to stand up and express ourselves. I had a feeling there was alot of dipshit kids at this show that aren't fans, just came to do something, but whatever, have some respect people. Nice set-list though, got Third Eye, so I can't complain about anything anymore. Besides the shitty venue, mediocre sound, and the idiots, it was an incredible show.

The show in K-town rawked. Thanks, Tool, for coming to my home town, though I had to drive from Memphis to see you. Like said above, Third Eye was worth all the bullshit that was dealt with to get there. I must say the sound on the Coliseum floor was a tad too boomy, but they improved it a bit at times. I just hate to have such beautiful vocals guitar work drowned out. H. and Lateralus were the other highlights for me. Lateralus is one of the best show closers ever. Good to see most of you fans out there even with the crap weather. Another great Tool experience! Spiral out... PS. all i can clearly remember of the setlist was sober opening and somewhere in there they played third eye... oh yeah, and parabola (PAIN IS AN ILLUSION) but mostly i was beating the shit out of myself in the mosh pit, so my memories aren't all that clear... i remember somewhere around (-) ions, wherein i politely asked maynard to stop fucking around, and the crowd was swaying but i was a meat and steel jackhammer trying to claw my way out of myself (the drugs were really kicking in) and i had a hard time not flailing around like a crazed animal... finally i floated over to where the big boys play (and damn! some of them boys were big) and got to express a little animal passion. i've never felt such a catharsis from a live show before, not just tired and happy but tired and happy and just slightly less crazy than i'd been going in, a little more content to be This body holding me, reminding me that I am not alone in This body makes me feel eternal. All this pain is an illusion. i was a god on fire, wide eyed and hopefully wild. ah, fuck you maynard. fuck you very much. much thanks to whoever snuck a pen in so they could copy the set list, thanks to all the beautifull babies for just being so goddamn pretty, thanks to all you fellowes out there not afraid of a little barely restrained violence, people is a damn strange medium to swim through. flow properties of liquids, expansion properties of gases, but all existing in a high-energy state, in a little cubbyhole of selfhood hidden from Modern Reality, created by the music, sustained by our pain and passion. wtf, listen to me. talk is cheap, boys. live it up.

First off, I want to say I was disappointed in the vast majority of the crowd. To the asshole with his elbows in my back during the first two songs: fuck you. I thought it was really sad that the pits were bigger for tool than they were for meshuggah. I was expecting enormous pits for meshuggah and maybe one little tiny one for the assholes that find tool appropriate for moshing. I just couldn't believe my eyes seeing an enormous pit for reflection. At times it was taking away from the show because I couldn't pay attention to the music for having to prevent being kicked in the head. Sad, sad, sad. Well, enough bitchin. The show was fucking incredible. They played about 3 songs that they didn't play when I saw them last October in Birmingham. I can't believe I got to hear Third Eye live. That was hands down the most amazing part of the show. I wasn't expecting that. Seeing Meshuggah play Triad with them was also quite incredible; that song sounds so cool live. I can't complain too much because any song Tool plays is beautiful, but it would have been nice to hear at least one song off of Opiate and maybe one or two more off of Undertow. No band will ever live up to Tool in my book, and seeing Meshuggah open for them was nothing short of awesome. If you get a chance to see this tour, don't pass it up. I anxiously await the day that Tool again comes within 3 hours of little ol' Chattanooga, TN.

im still sitting here shaking my head as to what the hell just happened last night.i knew going into it that this being my first time seeing tool that it would be unreal but i didnt really grasp that until afterwards.tool sounded perfect from start to finish. the anticipation before they came on though was unbearable everyone said they felt like they were about to explode. the set was good however nothing was played off of "opiate" and only sober off of "undertow" but it was tool in my city and i am not bitching one bit the set went like this.. sober the grudge H. stinkfist schism parabol/parabola Timothy Leary with a the very inspiring and thought provoking "think for yopurself, question authority" speech third eye disposition reflection triad lateralus out of the about 14 shows that ive been to i would have to say that tool is by far the best live band ive ever seen. the visuals going on throughout the show and the Alex Gray paintings behind them were just awesome. they accompanied the music perfect. Maynard still never came out of the shadows still leaving the air of mystery around him. i know everyone else felt the same though because as i was walking out a man comes up to me and says "what the hell just happened?" so tool please come back to knoxville!!

all i have to say is oh my god. i have been smiling non stop. i cannot believe they opened with sober. that made the whole fucking concert for me. i had crappy seats but i am kind of glad because i got to see all the crazy stuff on the screens and it was absolutely beautiful. meshugah rocked out with them on triad, and third eye, third eye, third eye, i wish the night would never end. i had my very normal first timer with me and he enjoyed it much. the show was so much smaller and better than my first, in Charolette last year on oct. 6th. i love tool i love tool i love tool. oh yeah and if clint is reading this you suck ofr not selling me those backstage passes. whoever ended up with those you are one lucky bastard. peace

This was one of greatest shows i've seen but of course it is because it's Tool. Meshuggah was incredibly horrible, I couldn't make out anything coming from the lead singer, he seemed cool when he was talking to the crowd but the music shouldn't even be considered music. I didn't get a chance to see Tomahawk open for Tool but i'm sure they would have been so much better but enough of my whining. The show was godly and they played Third Eye!!! and one of my favorites H. so I can live the rest of my life with a interpeace. Thank you Tool, thank you for coming to redneck inhabited territory and not wanting to destroy us all. :)

AWSOME SHOW~! Granted, this was my first Tool ocncert but this kicked major ass for me. Granted, Maynard wasn't in full-force freak mode but he still seemed very much into the music and totally cool. I dig the slightly aloof frontman in leather with a Mohawk and face paint. Great stuff. I only caught part of the Meshugga stuff and while their instrumental stuff isn't bad, I'm nto a fan of harsh, death metal vocals myself. But when they came out later on to jam with tool on Triad, it was totally kick-ass and I was impressed. Fucking Great. I thought some of the computer ghraphics were kind of cheesy but on the whole they were very cool. The Actual physical set was very impressive. The first backdrop was amazing. - RL

Hey all you Tool fans out there. I hope you all got to see this show(or one just like it)because it ROCKED! Tool opened with "Sober"(I won't post the set for someone has already done that I'm sure)and ended with "Lateralus", with all types of goodies in between. They put some new stuff on a lot of their songs, "Stinkfist" for one. Maynard talked this show (unlike my last, but first, show in Richmond,VA). And Danny and the drummer from Meshuggah(sorry, I can't seem to find his name), what can I say? Only one word, "WOW". The two went at it for almost forever, and not once did they slow down. And the coup'de'tat, "Third Eye". I almost died when those screens lit up the colloseum with the video of Timothy Leary and his infamous "Think for yourself" speech. Well all you Toolheads out and abroad, I do hope you get to see our divine martyrs we have come to know and love, those four people with sight beyond sight, and wisdom beyond words... Amazing. Huge. Unreal. Absolutely Incredible. All of these words describe the experience of seeing TOOL live for the first time(and I assume everytime). I have been going to concerts for 16 years and have never experienced anything like seeing TOOL. Their amount of emotion, energy, and passion for the music is unmatched. They didn't just 'play' the songs...it was bigger than that. I have never had that complete feeling of euphoria before at any show. From having chills run up my back to tears actually starting to form in my eyes. Amazing. Huge. Unreal. Thank you Maynard, Adam, Danny, and Justin.

look above for setlist. this show was a lot better than last years charlotte nc show, altho i miss being outdoors. i was pleased that maynard made a reference to an old Bill Hicks joke when he asked the crowd to raise their hands so he could see if we had grown our thumbs yet. nice touch. i spent most of the show running around taking pictures with my smuggled camera, and was prepared to dive into the floor if security posed a problem. the lights and stage set were amazing. at one point (after disposition i think) The Tree of Life appeared on screen and i nearly shat a brick. i immediately took a picture and felt lucky to have recognized it. the video for parabol/a was intense and hypnotic. in fact the whole show was! such an insane carnival these guys run. my only real complaint was that they didn't play much old material. i would have loved to have heard the OTRM version of prison sex. still the set was great and the band sounded awesome. mad kudos to meshuggah. they stuck to it and played a good set even tho the crowd didn't seem too responsive. their chaotic rhythmn section threw me off at first, but i'm a big Aphex Twin fan so i adjusted quickly. the dynamics were killer with a very heavy bass sound that rumbled the coliseum. it was a small area, so i could feel the thundering bass and drums from both bands hitting my body. all in all this was a spectacular show and really breathed some life into east tennessee. its events like tool that give the bible belt a much needed push in the right direction.

I believe Maynard did not say 'oposable' but the intent was the same. The first review on this page states that he asked about 'thongs'; this is totally off base. He did say thumbs.... that prick... I love Tool, and I love Tennessee, and yes Maynard, I have thumbs, and a brain. And, an undying desire to think for myself and to question authority. All in all, I rank it 2nd out of the 4 Tool shows I have been too. -D -=shouts go out to cool muthafckers: Tyler and Shawna

Bill Hicks on His Home... (I nabbed this from http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A609563) Bill Hicks had a love-hate relationship with the American South, where he was brought up: In many parts of our troubled world, people are yelling 'Revolution!'. In Tennessee they're yelling 'Evolution! We want our thumbs!' He hated the white-trash trailer park culture that suppresses human potential and breeds prejudice and intolerance.

I'm not complaining, but it would've been nice to hear some shit from Opiate and a little more from Undertow. WELL FIRST I HAVE TO SAY THAT TOOL IS THE GREATEST BAND THAT EVER LIVED......WHY YOU ASK??.....WELL HERE IS THE ANSWER MAYNARD ,DANNY, ADAM, & JUSTIN......NEED I SAY MORE??? THE CONCERT WAS AWSOME.....NO WAIT GODLY!! EVERYONE SETLIST IS PRETTY MUCH CORRECT.....SO NO NEED TO PUT THAT UP WHEN PARABOLA WAS FINISHED I HEARD THAT IT WAS EITHER 3RD EYE OR OPIATE......I ALSO HEARD THEY WERE TEASING PEOPLE BY PLAYING THE TIM LEARY "THINK FOR YOURSELF QUESTION AUTHORITY" BUT WHEN DANNY STARTED TO BANG THE BASS AND BILL HICKS CAME ON I KNEW THAT 3RD EYE WAS GOING AND I WAS LIKE HELL YES!! BUT I HAVE TO SAY THE HIGHLIGHT WAS TRIAD.......I DONT KNOW THOSE 2 GUYS NAME FROM MESSHUGGAH, BUT THEY CAME OUT AND JUST FUCKIN JAMMED......BUT THE HIGHLIGHT WAS OFCOURSE DANNY.....DANNY JUST WENT FUCKIN OFF AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A BADASS DRUMMER IN MY LIFE......TRIAD WAS THE BEST I WAS HAPPY TO SEE THE 4 COME OUT AND WAVE TO THE CROWD LIKE THEY DID(YES THEY DO THIS AFTER EVERY SHOW) BUT THEY STAYED OUT AND LIKE WANTED TO GREET AND THANK EVERYONE FOR COMING OUT..... THEY R JUST GREAT......THEY R GREAT AT WHAT THEY DO AND GREAT TO THERE FANS AND I LOVE THEM FOR IT

Setlist is Correct as Above, and I pretty much expected it coming in but I got 2/3rds of the changes I wanted from the show I saw in the summer at Continental Airlines in Jersey. They played H. instead of 46&2, which I love both, but I had already seen 46&2. And I got to see Third Eye. I damn near busted a nut when they started playing that I was so pumped. I got to see Opiate during the summer but I still haven't seen Aenima which would have been my 3rd request but I cannot complain. Parabol/a was pretty damn awesome the place erupted once they broke into Parabola and didn't stop until the song was ended. Lateralus was also a highlight for me because as the band huddled together on stage it really felt like the crowd was coming together to experience a masterpiece of a song. Comments The Grudge didn't sound right during parts of it, sounded like the speakers were drowning out Maynard's voice a little. Ok the floor is a lot of fun, but I swear to God if one more motherfucker who is overweight tries to crowd surf and nearly falls on somone because of it, then isn't that a fuckin clue NOT to crowd surf. To the UT jack ass behind me who kept pushing me back because I was trying to enjoy myself during Lateralus and invading his dumbass grilfriend's space; you suck try and enjoy the concert instead of standing there with your thumb up your ass. The crowd was pretty good actually since I was comparing to the NJ/NY crowd in the summer who really were into it, I think the place would have exploded after intermission had they not played D/R. If they played something harder the floor would have cexploded. Thank you TOOL for an awesome experience, well worth the 3 hour drive from KY and the cost of gas and ticket.

For the record: Maynard probably said "have you grown your thumbs?" as opposed to what I heard, "have on your thongs?" I am glad someone heard that correctly because that sure as hell makes more sense. Perhaps I was misguided by the girl in front of me, who tugged at her thong and yelled "Yep!" when Maynard said that. My apologies.

Holy shit, This was my fourth show, and this was by far the most excellent one yet. I saw them in Atlanta, Alabama, and South Carolina. I drove from Georgia Southern University to Knoxville Tennesse, and it took me seven and a half hours. When I finally got there on monday night, I went to bed and prepared myself for the following night. Me and the Judge got there around 7:30, the opening band really wasn't that good, but none of them I have seen really are. We had really awesome seats, I was parallel to Justin, and I watched him most of the show. This was the Judge's first show and he about had a heart attack when they finally came out. This was the best setlist I have experienced. All I wanted to hear the whole night was H, and they finally played it, I couldn't fucking believe it, the setlist other dumbshits have posted is not right. The setlist went Sober, The Grudge, Stinkfist, H, Schism, Parabol, Parobola, Thirdeye, Disposition, Reflection, Triad, and of coarse Lateralus. The sound was also the best I've heard because the arena was just so small, of coarse the bouncers were dicks, We tried to stand against the rail to see the artwork but they told us to move. I think Danny Carey Should take his beast ass out there and beat the shit out of them. Anyway, the show was definately worth the seven hour drive and I hope I get to see them some other time. Thanks Tool for being the only music left that is worth a shit, I am glad there is someone who still wants perfection. Also thinks for not selling out!!!!!! Big C and the Judge

Personally, I thought the show kicked ass. Meshugga was the shit...As far as tool goes.... I was a little disappointed that Maynard faced away from the floor (where I was) practically the whole show. And the crowd didnt get as crazy as I expected. But the music was totally awesome, and the videos they played were really trippy. I wish Maynard had interacted with the crowd more, got them all crazy like.. But hey I'm not complaining. Tool lived up to everything I thought they'd be and more.. I can't wait to see them again..

well, ill have to get all the fans of Tool, who have been excited about this tour and the fact that they've been playing third eye, to contribute some money together so we can buy you a shiny medal since youve been a fan for soooo long. We owe you man. to the humble jackass who mocks those who just saw third eye

Tool in Knoxville. 3 days later and it's still unbelievable. Absolutely fucking amazing show. Much better than when I seen them in Cincinatti on Aug. 31st. Third Eye live!!! Enough said.. I'm still left speechless by Tool. Amazing amazing show. Disposition live was the most beautiful song I have ever heard in my life. Ha! And I even got a piece of the stuff that was "raining" down. Great stuff. I have but one complaint with the whole concert. The 'effing REDNECKS. Go find something better to do, like drink a beer and kill a deer or something. BAH! Meshuggah was amazing live. They did better than I thought they would. Crowd could have got a little more into to them. They did much better than Tomahawk did when I seen Tool the first time. TOOL MUST COME BACK TO KNOXVILLE!!!!!!!!!! :)

Brilliant show. I don't know how these guys do it over and over and just keep getting better. Certainly not for the sake of the audience, if they're all like knoxville. By the way, after Maynard said, "Show me your hands", he said "Just wanted to see if you have thumbs", as in opposible thumbs. No one got it. What became of subtlety?

This concert had to be the greatest experience of my life. Maynard and the crew really rocked the fucking house. Maynard performed like a God, he kicks ass. Meshuggah also kicked some fucking ass, especially when they teamed up with Tool near the end. I love you guys.

The show was great. I missed them in 98 on the aenima tour, but i've attempted to redeem myself quite modestly by attending two shows this time around. I saw them on the first leg of the tour in North Carolina. Good show, they weren't as tight as they were here in k-town, but that's to be expected after a year of playing the songs. The setlist has already been posted, so lets get into a little breakdown. The start with sober was an excellent addition, allowing maynard a chance to warm up his vocal cords for some of the more "delicate" songs from Lateralus. Last year, when they started with the Grudge, I remember wandering if maynard had a cold or something. The visuals were more stunning then they had been (if that was possible), although I was sad to see that the previous visual for Disposition had been replaced. That was one freaky piece of eye-candy. I couldn't believe they were playing Third Eye. During the intro, I was telling everybody around me that they were just fucking with us and weren't going to play it, but when good ol' Bill Hicks started up, I knew I was wrong. Speaking of "Hicks", what maynard said to the crowd was "Does everybody have their thumbs?" After he asked us to hold up our hands. Explaination: Bill Hicks had a routine were he said Tennessee residents have no thumbs, due to our regressed evolutionary state. Hardy fucking har. The jam with Musuggah (sp?) was indeed awesome, although despite their drummer's wild flailing attempts to usurp Danny as the reigning king of the skins, he couldn't do it. The ending to triad was a cresendo of members from both bands going for broke and then suddenly stopping on a dime, you just don't see bands play that complex a song so tightly, unbelievable. Finally, the crowd was phenomenal. It was a medium sized venue of about 10,000, sold out, and they were into it the whole way. There were no boos for Musuggah, and nothing but pandomonia for tool. As tool finished their show it seemed to me that they really enjoyed playing for the fans here in knoxville. They might not have played Pushit or anything from Opiate, but they did play the greatest show I have ever experienced (and that's not hyperbole). Come back soon.

I just wanted to say this being my first Tool concert ever I was stunned at how loud Tool was unfortunately I gave up my uplcose and personal view after meshuggah(Sister needed to breath) Meshuggah was cool for moshers and the sound was actually pretty good. Thanks to meshuggah for coming. Tool came out and made Sober my favorite song again.. then the grudge, then stinkfist then H. "Thats my favorite show!! no thats my favorite show!!!" I still have to wonder if Tool came to knoxville just to make fun of us dumb rednecks(in wich case i will gladly step out of line and point at the stupid rednecks and say 'Wow those guys sure are stupid') I was having a good time untill midway through sober some official type people made me move back down to the floor and then I was having a great time untill some official type person made me move to the back of the civic center(wich i refused to do) andddd thennnn I was having a great time untill someone dropped a fucking cigarette on my foot Now that i have seen Tool I am sure that i will see them again and I swear no more mp3's I'll send more money now$$ I wish Tool would come make fun of us again. A thought I had why didnt Tool get Thompson Bowling?

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. The Show was F*&^%$#g AWESOME,Wish they would have played Jerk Off, but still one of the best shows I've seen in Knoxville, A.C. entertainment needs to work on the sound for the opening acts. Can't wait till TOOL comes back to the area, will be there, Oh Yeah it was an AWESOME SHOW!

This was this reviewer's 4th? Tool show

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. It's been a week since the show, but every second of it is burned into my memory. Setlist shmetlist, they played Third Eye. Those sweet, freaky bastards, they played Third Eye. I just read at least 30 of these reviews, and every one states that tool is the best show they've ever seen. Tool is such a singular band that is almost unfair to compare them to anyone else. You can't go see Korn and see a perfomance like Reflection, and you can't go see Widespread and see one like 46&2. Danny Carey's got some big ol' fuckin guns, man. Tool made my empathy grow the first time I saw them live. Now it's 4 times bigger. I saw Fantomas in Charlotte and again in Greenville when thery were called Tomahawk. Nobody was really into it, and some people booed. Meshuggah wasn't a lot of people's favorite, but everyone was respecttful, so good job KNOXVILLE! I agree with some folks above, it seemed like Danny, Adam and Justin were really enthused when applauding the audience. Maybe the pint-sized arena made it more personal for them. We should all come up with a way to thank the band, other than buying overpriced t shirts. I really feel as though they've given us something that deserves a response of some kind. email me if you have a cool idea. I have none.
