A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: November 3

From: Jason Stock (tjstock@worldnet.att.net) Subject: nov 3rd slc concert review The SLC show was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Tool put on an intense show all the way around. Maynard was painted blue from head to toe only wearing white boxer shorts, with some of the lights it seemed like an aura was shining around him. They had some intense videos playing in the background, everything from elephants fucking to naked men jumping up and down. The crowd was pretty fun, although I think I may have some cracked ribs. I was on the front row for most of the show and people were pushing pretty hard. They played a lot of songs from the new album and from Undertow. I felt like the highligt was when they played Opiate. The crowd went bezerk during this song. Maynards voice was right on, and very impressive. The opening band, The Cows, were very um...original. The lead singer did the banana out of the pants trick. He was waving it infront of the crowd after he pulled it out of his fly and peeled it. I ate some of that banana, it wasn't bad. He did alot of handstands, but the lyrics were pretty incoherant.(he also played two trumpets at once...WOW!) The police presence was extensive, people in Utah are a little uptight about the music scene since a recent Slayer concert resulted in 5 stabbings and a small riot. But all things considered this concert seemed to go off pretty smooth. Overall I would definately give this show a 10 on a scale of 1-10. The only complaint I have was that it felt like it ended too soon.
