A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: December 7

From: ryanph@mindspring.com Here is my review of the TOOL show in Atlanta on Saturday Dec. 7th: Well, my first word would be WOW! I saw Tool when they played in New Orleans in November, but this blew that show away. After the first three songs, I was afraid that the setlist would be exactly the same, but I was wrong. It turned out to be MUCH better. Maynard came out in the same half blue half white paint that he did in New Orleans (but this time it was rubbed off by the end of the show). Adam hardly moved a muscle the whole show, giving him the appearance of a statue (which was pretty cool). Here's the setlist: Third Eye Stinkfist+ 46&2 Swamp Song Eulogy Prison Sex+ H. Hooker with a Penis Pushit Sober+ Opiate Ænema Some Notes: I liked "Third Eye" MUCH better this time. It's an awesome song, and even,I suppose, a decent opening song. They added a little extra part to "Stinkfist," right before "I'll keep digging..." It was pretty neat (but no new vocals). They had the extra part in "Prison Sex" (although they might do that all the time now, I don't know) "Sober" had the massive 10-minute intro "Hooker..." was INCREDIBLE! Maynard introduced it saying that it was about how "all of us have to accept the blame for what is wrong with the world." He screamed the whole song, and it was quite powerful. "Opiate" was once again maddeningly slow, but before it, he said something I rather liked: (NOT a direct quote) "We'd like to clear up a misconception most of you probably have about this song. It's not an antireligious song. It's just that a long time ago, certain people realized that they could make money off of the beliefs of others, and they fucked everything up. This song is about those people." ""Ænema" was almost TOO good. Great pit song, I'm surprised I didn't pass out! Well, That's it. It was an awesome show, and I hope all you good Tool fans get to see them on this tour.
