A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: December 10

From: Jimbo7725@aol.com Here's what I remember ( I'm writing three months after the show ). Psychotica has the original girl singer back, there was a much better black singer at lollapalooza, and they really bored me and took out a little of that three-year-wait anticipation to see Tool. They got off pretty quick and the silver rooster gave thanks for letting them open for the greatest rock band on earth, or something like that. About 30 minutes later, the aenima cover minus the eyes came on the double screens. It took the band a few minutes to come on. The first song was third eye, which they started live about two minutes into the cd version. I now understand why they included this song, anyone there tripping must have had such an incredible experience with it, and no I'm not saying that because I think it might be cool to hear on acid. The screen had spinning colors on it-purple and green on white. The part with the bass dropping like 20 octaves was the best. After third eye Maynard said "greetings" and they played stinkfist with the brown endless tunnel on the screen. (I forgot to yell chicken weasel, too in awe.)The people from the video, which were curled up on the amps, lit up for stinkfist. 46 and 2 came next, with red and green dividing cog thingies on the screen (maybe representing cell division?) . They surprised me with swamp song, which I really didn't expect them to play, and I forget what what was on screen for that. Fifth was eulogy ( Does Maynard use a kazoo for the sheep-like sound in the beginning?) and a repeating sequence of a guy evolving and devolving while walking in circles was shown. Maynard's long-held "goodbye..." was very cool. Sixth was prison sex with an out of order version of the video and Maynard opened it with "This song is about identifying patterns in your life." Seventh was H, and on screen were a pattern of clear jumping people. Eighth was sober, also with an out of order version of the video. Opiate had a big explaination of religious figures with good ideas and intentions and the agents who twist these ideas, and the song was about these agents. After opiate, they said they'd do one more and they did aenema, I didn't notice any lyric changes to fit the song with the east coast, but then again I was singing along. I don't think I ever looked at the screen for the last two songs. Maynard gave a peace sign as he walked of stage. Adam never moved except for the time between opiate and aenema. Justin sat next to the drums during this time and people were waving for him, like they wanted him to come into the crowd, he did the same gesture back, which was pretty funny. The massive Danny put on Justin's bass for a second, hit one note and then took it off. They looked like they did for the rest of the tour and other things Maynard said were similar to the other shows' quotes. Yes, I was really really pissed that they played ten songs, they know that they're never coming back to florida for a long ass time. But it was still my best concert. Finally, two fuck you's-One to the people in california who get to see Tool every day and take it for granted, and Two to the assholes who started the rumor of the 12-11 show in florida, Kabir cleared that up for me. -Jimbo7725
