A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: December 10

From: Mark (mdeha@fau.campus.mci.net) hey i just attended the tool show at the sunrise musical theater in ft. lauderdale. It was an interesting experience to say the least. First off if psychotica is opening for your shows in your area skip it they suck so bad its an embarresment to the bad and i asked my self why the hell are they opening for such a killer band like tool. oh well consider yourself warned. I dont know what i expected when i went to see the show but i sure was expecting more. In my opinion it was like listening to the albums on a killer stereo. There wasn't any real tinkering with the song for that live performance feel they were definitely true to the albums. The only song that they did play with was Sober. Alot of guitar tweaking and creaking for about 5 to 7 minutes and then they laid into the song. They opened with Prying open my third eye and played mostly from the new album including my fav 46&2. They played disgustipated, sober and prison sex from undertow. listen to prisonsex because maynard adds a few new lyrics to the song. 1&1/2 hours is way to short them to play. i felt that they could have gone two plus hour with all the material they have out now and that was the biggest disappointment. Maynard begged the audience to go see the Orlando show because it wasn't sold out yet. If the show had been better i would have gone to see them again the next night but not for the lack luster show i received no way. The didn't live up to the image of the band in my mind. There we no theatrical gimics or anything just two vid sceens that showed some of their stop point animations durring choice songs. Overall if you want to hear the songs on their albums played really loud then you'll have agood time...if you wanted a performace from the band then forget it they just stood there and peddled there wares for the masses. I was disappointed i guess there is a lot of truth in HOOKER WITH A PENIS because that song just about sums up there performance for me. I drove 100+ miles to see them play and i wont do it again. The orlando show would have been about 120+ miles but not after the crap they gave me at Sunrise. Enjoy the show......
