The show was amazing I think way way way better than last year, Maynard had a bit to say, wished some lady a happy borthday and sed that a security guard had a 3rd testicle removed. Everything was great. Aenema as usual was great live and 4 Deggrees absolutly blew me away, way better than expected, nice and loud too. The melvins were ok, very loud, big ringing in my ears after they played. Anyway I'd love to get a copy of the concert so if anyone got one then could you post that you did (I noticed a minidisc recorder in the confiscation box so at least 1 person wasn't able to record it, I just hope some one else tried) anyway, all in all, amazimg, also the standing ovation at the end topped it all off very nicely.

Maynard could be the best poet alive today and TOOL are certainly one of the most vivid experiances that you will have in this life. Its a shame they'll be wasted on the Aussies!!!--sorry just couldn't help myself.

It was great. :) The time = 1:30am, a few hours after the concert finished. Although, my first Tool experience will always be my favourite, this was an excellent concert. It was very much like last years concert, only this time it had a few little extras added in (the Dangly people and the Schism head-flopping people). Those dangly people made triad so cool to watch. :) The Setlist, to me, was predictable, although i did expect at least ONE song from opiate, but it was not to be. :( It was all mainly Lateralus, except for a couple of songs from both Undertow and Aenima. The crowd was ok. They weren't going apeshit, yet they weren't dead, kind of a nice medium. I think Aenema, as always, was the one that got the best reaction from the crowd. I managed to get about 3-5 rows from the front- centre, but despite my valiant attempts i couldn't get right up to the front row, it was just too compacted. Bugger. :( Tool rocks. :) Tool concerts rock. :) I'm cold (Soaking wet clothes + cold auckland night = brrrrrrrr) so i'm gonna go have a shower now... :) Cheers Tool, hope you come back soon! (and play Third Eye just for me...)

AWESOME... mind-blowing visuals. Nice set (a lot of Lateralus predictably). They cranked the bass up for Triad, I thought it was going to stop my heart. Definately going again if there's another concert here.

Just got home, still sore from a great show! The vibe, I thought, was a lot better than last time. Not as much pushing and shoving, more of a comfortable mosh. Some idiot in an orange shirt was being a dick during the Melvins and pushing everyone around. The security guy at the front jumped in and grabbed him :D so problem solved. Yes, the setlist was predictable at points, but seeing a fresh version of Aenema, Eon Blue followed by the Patient, 4 Degrees and Triad (very kick ass, good work). Adam did a little buildup before Sober, it sounded a bit like Ions, but I could be wrong, but nevertheless, it tripped me out, combined with the projectors. I enjoyed the Melvins set too, good stoner rock music. Some guy passed out behind me, he must be kicking himself in the head for missing the show! Oh well. Anyways, I'm thorougly sastified! And also to mention, it was between songs, and the usual idiotic shouting out of songs to be played began, then Maynard retorted "i'm not a fucking jukebox" or something along that lines :D

First Tool show but seen 100s of others cos' I'm old (30+). Just a few random observations: Maynard opens wearing a dreadlock wig Watching a lot of the dumfounded crowd trying to mumble the lyrics to 4 degrees Couple next to me on opposite sides of the narcotics spectrum; he stoned and still as a tree, she bouncing round like a happy puppy. Both were into the show in their own way. Cool moment: before I put on my $50 Tool T shirt a guy comes up to me pointing to my non Tool rock shirt and the design. He shows me the same intricate design tattooed on his stomach. Watching the video screens thinking 'this is real art' The Patient was good and the parabol-less Parabola too. Maybe a little more from Undertow or anything from Opiate would have been nice but anything they play live is good. One of the best bands I've ever seen. If you are reading this from another country do what it takes to see them live when they come to your place, you will not regret it. Come back soon guys.

It is amzing how much a shitty sound mix can take away from the band . I don't know what the fuck was wrong , it started with slim and finished with tool . The sound quality was very poor . nowhere as good as last year , vocals were muddy and made maynard sound like shit , too much low end drowned out the guitar ! Don't get me wrong , im not taking anything away from the greatest rock band ever , tool fucking kick ass , it is just fucked up that the sound guy couldn't get tool to sound like tool ! Tool usually tour with their own sound guy but last night they had this dude that they probably picked up in auckland , he needs to go listen to some fucken tool cd's and learn how to mix the band right ! TOOL were still fucken tight and will always remain my #1 band !

Last nights concert was even better than last years. Seemed like it was louder (my ears are still ringing and it's 3:20pm the day after). Everyone went nuts up front when the grudge started up. Too many idiots just there to bang there heads and didn't know the words though, still good amount of moshing up till reflection and disposition where everyone lost their energy. Best songs of the night, Grudge, Stinkfist, 4 Degrees, Lateralus. One og the highlights had to be the parabola vid, when the interlocking hand sequence just before parabol finishes and parabola starts was so cool, there was a collective 'woaaa' as parabola started up then...... Better than sex!

Did anyone see this real strange looking person to the left of maynard during lateralus? He had like this huge black afro. I think ive seen him before. I cant quite put think of his name though... First of all, I want to say Timmi's sertlist above is the accurate one. Also, the drummer from the Melvins playued percussion on Triad. They did a nice slow into to this song also. Very amazing to see the band, the lights, the screens, the contortionists dangling from the rafters, the melvins drummer, and MJK's shadow from behind his little screen - all at once. Rhythm, harmony. A few points: I was the only one dancing for Slim. The Melvins were very, very loud. Buzz wore a black skirt down past his knees. I got punched in the eye just before hitting the ground in the moshpit. One small screen behind MJK in the middle of the stage, and the two giant ones on either side of the stage and hoisted in the air - unlike Christchurch last year, which I liked better. Sound near the front was good, yet tthe back half of the hall there was too much high- end, which really hurt my ears. They all hugged in a group after throwing water bottles and drum sticka - as they got a standing ovation. Nice to see.....

Fuck me! I have only had three hours sleep in the last 3 days, caught them at Wn and Ak and fuck my ears are still ringing. I just got off the plane this arvo and am at work and am still so excited, and want to see them again, but I dont think my ears will let me. For all those in Auckland you should have come around the back of the building as me and two guys met them the whole band as they were hoping in their car. The dude let us go back stage and catch up with the Melvins and gave us a pass thingo for the after party. It rocked. Maynard is the inspiring person I think I will ever have the pleasure of knowing. I didn't care what songs they played (the set list were the same at every show). Just having the honor and the stamina to see them again was awesome. If money was not an issue I would see them at all their gigs. never in my life time will I ever have as much respect for a band. They are the best band in the world in my books. I'm sweating, and breathing and staring and thinking and sinking deeper. It's almost like I'm swimming. The sun is burning hot again on the hunter and the fisherman, and he's trying to remember when, but it makes him dizzy. Seems like I've been here before. Seems so familiar. Seems like I'm slipping into a dream within a dream. Must be the way you whisper. catch ya l8a beks PS guy in the mosh pit (standing next to the chick with white eyes, that was me) with the dreads your hair smelt like cat piss.

I am now 100% sure that the members of Tool (And their road crew) have mastered how to fully entertain/Fuck-with the human brain on virtually every level. Last nights show was a amazing experience which helped me define exactly why i love this band so much, and why in my opinion they are the best live act in the world today. Seeing the Melvins (who's music I had never heard before) open for Tool was.... very loud, to say the least but they provided the crowd with the hype they needed (not to mention a great set). When Tool apeared on stage at about Nine o'clock it was very much the same vibe as the last show they did in Auckland but this time they gave it a little somthing extra, alot of improv followed as well as guest appearences from the Melvins & Osseus labyrint (The two acrobat's swinging from the roof). The visuals gave the show a great edge and the Parabol video took it to another level (Had to shake my head to snap out of the trance it put me in). A good crowd made what was already very good even better, My only beef was the sound, which I'm sure could have been better, But nothing to cry over. All in all, another wicked show from the best band in the world today. If you agree, Mention this to me! Peace....

This is pretty lengthy… Arrived at 5pm and heard at least a portion of soundcheck which included Stinkfist, Aenema, The Patient and a few new things I’d never heard. Were vocal-less though so may have just been jams. Doors opened at 7.15pm got a front row spot to the left of Adam. Quite a decent place but was hoping for something more central. The stage set-up had changed from the previous show with two large screens positioned on either side of the stage instead of one above it, Maynards screen stayed in the same place. Pre show music was the chipmunks type sounding stuff (anyone know what this wacked stuff is?!). Slim came on played pretty well, crowd seemed quite happy with them, no booing or anything (at least none I noticed). Pretty good opener. The thanked Tool and The Melvins for being “real gentlemen”. Melvins were amazing. Dale is a brilliant drummer and the intro thing he did was great. Managed to get the head off his drum stick after it flew off (the soft head thing). He also lost a stick at one point but caught it and played on with a huge grin on his face. As for Buzz the man himself his guitaring in this no solos age was phenonomal. Never seen anything quite like it live. I wish I knew more of their stuff, will have to go out and buy some of their albums now! Perfect support act, definently see them again if I had the chance. Now for Tool. Firstly, unveiling Danny’s newish kit brought a cheer from the crowd as rightly so, the thing is huge! They came on stage to the usual weird music used last year. Adam and Justin were both dressed quite smartly, shirts etc. Danny wore the usual drummers attire – shorts, t-shirt. Maynard was in his leather suit thing but with the Oakley Medusa on (looks like he did model it for the Rolling Stone ad). The Grudge – Flawless performance. Huge, powerful, live number. No screw-ups by Maynard like last year. Huge scream as usual! Stinkfist – Again an amazing live song. Featured the new section, many people did not expect this and began the “I’ll start…” part. Maynard says “Deja vu” (he said this last time, maybe because it’s the third time they’ve the venue and NZ) Four Degrees – Maynard introduces it by saying “This song is not about anal sex.” Rare song to be heard live up until the last few shows so I was obviously pleased to hear it played. Great! Maynard thanks security man (by name) for being so good. Parabola – Not as great live when minus Parabol but still a thumper, really gets the crowd going. Schism – As usual a crowd favourite, one everyone should be able to play along with. Maynard playing guitar in pre- verse riff. Bridge section is drawn out with nothing but a droning A being played while Osseus Labrinth came on stage. Seriously weird looking couple but really cool accompaniment to the song live! Eon Blue Apocalypse - I was thrilled to hear the first not played by Adam. Because.. The Patient – One of my favourite Tool songs. Didn’t hear it last year. Really great to this one live. Only variation was a difference in the break part with Danny playing slightly different notes (yes danny). Merkaba – Not too sure about this. Only Danny and Adam are left on stage. Adam playing with sequencer making weird Merkaba/(-)ions type sound. Rumbling, glass breaking etc. Quite long. At some point during the show (not sure if it was here or not) Maynard kneels in front of the screen doing a meditation type thing. Visuals are the water ones. Justin and Maynard rejoin them on stage for… Sober – Another clear crowd favourite. Really pumping. Disposition – Maynard again playing guitar. Most notabling the short one note slide in every bar. Nice laidback, ‘get a breather’ type song leading into.. Reflection – Another of my favourite songs. Great vocals and I love that bass line! The last guitar line is repeated but Adam is offstage – not sure if he sampled and looped it or was playing it off stage. Intermission – Parabol/Parabola vid. Came on instantly after the guitar part of Reflection finished. Crowd makes displeasing sound when they see the three men vomit on the table. Great to see on those huge screens. Osseus Labrinth are seen briefly ascending to the ceiling. Triad – Band come back on minus Maynard and plus Dale from The Melvins on Maynards stand playing some weird metal type drums. Amazing rhythm given to the song. Has given me a new love for this on, always thought of it as the bad part of the Disposition/Reflection grouping. Osseus Labrinth contort and swing in time with the music after being lowered slightly from the ceiling by the legs. Maynard (something to this effect): “Tonight we want to help us out with something. Take your arm and point it towards to sky (band and crowd point towards roof) and then slowly turn around and point towards the lighting stand (crowd and band point to stand). Now after three say happy birthday you crazy serial killer. 1..2..3.. (crowd and Maynard) Happy Birthday you crazy serial killer.” (After the show I went up to the lighting stand expecting it to be Adams wifes birthday, she informed me that it was infact another one of the staff.) Aenema – Maynards start it hissing the opening. Yet another crowd favourite. Loving this one! Maynard gives positive feeling speech. Lateralus – Last song. Band does their group hug. Great way to end an amazing night. Band throws out water bottles, towels, drum sticks, drum pedal etc. Maynard thanks crowd. They wave and walk off. Extra Notes: I cannot comment much on the visuals be cause they were not easily noticed from front row. They used small light projectors on the stage to project symbols onto the adjacent walls and also created huge shadows of Justin and Adam. These were also used to rum light over the audience. Maynard was very talkative, I’m sure this show when the recording becomes available. He also faced the audience much more. Do not miss your chance to them! Thank you Tool! :) - Neill

not really for auckland but the brisbane option aint up yet review for brissie - first leg of the australian tour core of the set was the same as I saw in sydney last year drawing heavily on Lateralus (how about that!) We did get some treats tho'. Opened with Flood instead of The Grudge (it was next, dont panic) - I havent read all the reviews recently but that cant have happened too often. We also got Useful Idiot and Triad - they seem to be playing the latter as a regular on this tour. Triad was accompanied by Ossius Labryint the wobbly headed dancers. They were also doing the dangly thing during intermission - good idea as most of us in the nosebleed section were getting a bit restless during the CD of Parabol/a (even if the new graphics are the best yet). We also got Sober and Opiate - so it was a good spread from the repertoire. The price we paid was no Aenima, Pushit, 46 and 2 - something for next time I guess. Overall, it was the usual brilliance although I did think the sound was a bit too bottom end. Justin and Danny's bassy bits were just too bassy - the sound last time was just so crisp; great drive without the thud. Melvins suffered from the same thing too I thought. The hugs and kisses stuff at the end when they shone the lights on us was a really nice touch. Putting MJK's sermon on taking the positive vibe home into practice I guess.

Well, man, I wish I had a more in depth and accurate vocabulary. Totally blown away. We had seen them the night before in Wellington and wow, the video for Parabola was so awesome I was moved to tears when it was over. It was like seeing the truth for the very first time. Same sort of set-up as last year, all the band members looking super-anonymous. Beautiful visuals similar to last year with the people swimming naked staying under the water. A new screen with this cloud formation. On the Saturday night, the concert was somewhat enhanced for me. While watching the screen with the clouds all I could see was a huge penis exploding into breasts and vaginas. Very erotic. The whole show was highly arousing especially due to my enhancement. Opening with The Grudge as they did last year, then into Stinkfist which had a cut of Eulogy in it. Wow man, they fully did The Patient and 4 degrees too! So amazed! It seemed as if they were doing longer intros to the songs and Maynard was chanting. I felt as if they were actually playing for us instead of just doing a set like they did in Wellington. The crowd around me was quite young and dark, like, they didn't want to get into it. So my girlfriend and I tried to get guys to smile, but they wanted to remain in the darkness. Tool is so full of light and love to me, I couldn't understand them. During disposition, the way we danced, Tool turned my girlfriend into a Beautiful Butterfly,, and I was this Lil' 'shroom tripping everyone out and my best mate was an Eagle with talons...it was a game, where if people could guess what we were they could fuck us. Then for some reason I believed that if somebody didn't fuck me right then and there I would die. So I grabbed this guy who I am sort of screwing around with and ran out of the crowd not even realising what I was doing... and I let go of him because I was so freaking out that if I didn't get out of the stadium and fuck I would die. I pushed my way past security guards as if they weren't there, dashed through the door and then realised I was alone with a few security guys. I think I may have propositioned them... But then I was high over a fence and before I knew it, running around half naked in a golf course. I think I may have fallen into a creek and taken my wet clothes off. I felt like I was in a computer game where my mission was to by-pass all possible bad energy and my body/mind/spirit knew where to go. All I had to do was run, and I waved my arms up and down like they were my butterfly wings, scurried through bushes like I was a wild mushroom, leapt over fences as though I was an Eagle with talons. All fears could simply be dismissed as it was all in my head therefore I had complete control over the situation I was in, even though I had no real idea what was going on. I just ran with it. I masturbated the bottom of trees' trunks where the roots come out of the earth, as if it were their vaginas. Protruding knobs on trees and even concrete on a brick wall seemed like phalluses and I rubbed my hand over them excitedly. It felt like they really were what I thought they were. I remember realising I was gonna get cold so I snuck around peoples backyards looking for a jumper on a clothesline. While jumping over a brick wall I saw a guy with a jumper on crouched in his backyard as if he knew I was there. I ran to the other side of the house and was met with another brick wall. I believed he was on the other side of it, and so I crouched by it and stretched my hand out to where I imagined his was, directly opposite me through the wall. I could still hear disposition and was so turned on. I spoke to the guy, he never talked back, I begged for his jumper, and imagined our bond being so strong that it could dissolve the wall as we realised all was energy therefore all was an illusion. Eventually I stumbled out onto the road and saw a soft light and knew I had found a safe house. It had WASSUP written with selotape on the window and I knocked on the door, two leaves covering my breasts and my top pulled down to cover my bottom bits. The people were very understanding. I was sad the next day when I realised I had run out of a Tool concert, but they took me somewhere that was twistedly precious and as little as I can remember I know I had a smile on my lips the whole time. Plus, I had seen them the night before. So it was all good. Weird, but good. I found most of my clothes except a bra and a top, they were hidden carefully on top of a bush.

This was this reviewer's 5th Tool show

So amazed! This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

Was a long day saturday, antisipation sucks. arived at the north shore events centre about 7:35 and as i walked towards the crowd pushing to get into the door a stranger offered me the rest of his joint. what a great start. empty beer bottles lined the doorway as i moved in towards the security check. "have a good night" said the dude ripping my ticket. security check was great they bearly touched me which was for the best as i had some pot in my sock. anyway..... walked in saw the last few songs of the new zealand band whoever they were then on with the melvins which i just didnt feel like watching, at this stage i just wanted to see tool. then the ring of eyes drawn by alex grey apeared on the screens with some trippy music in the background. you could feel the energy of the crowd about to explode into mosh. i was right up the front to the right. the band walk in. arms go flying waving pointing making strange heavy metal signs. i see maynard. i see them all. sober is amazing, im sure i can see maynards voice shoot over the crowd whhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cant we just be sober. sonic waves of emotion. great. the contotionists buzz me out. i take a second look and wonder, am i the only one seeing this? after the concert i notice no one is saying a word as they walk out. my hearing is impared for the next 2 days. i love you tool.
