well as the clock strikes midnight .. here in perth , i think im one of the first to put thought out on the show ... simply mindblowing ........... !!! i went to the show earlier in sydney and i can safely say that perths show was way better ... the atmosphere is still swirling in my head. setlist [ official ] as of 4/5/02 the grudge small [-] ions intro stinkfist forty six and two schism parabola jimmy ....... [ yes they did play jimmy !! ] disposition reflection - intermission - video - parabol/a - triad ....... [ with the melvins drummer ] aenima lateralus umm what a show ... firstly a big thanks goes out to tool and the melvins for actually seeing that Perth does exist in australia and is worth comming to play for .. next to the perth crowd .... u guys were great and bravo for the big turn out and loud presence ... hilights for me was jimmy - totally mind blowing and unexpected . maynard dedicated it to someone called Julien , telling us it was about finding your way home lastly after triad , maynard thanked everyone and the melvin drummer , saying they were flying back to L.A , [ if theres anything left of it ] well u know that was the que for the ultimate AENIMA .. the crowd loved it and was the best song of the night - perfectly topped off by Lateralus

i have just returned from one of the greatest nights ever. Made possible by four incredible , stable and mindblowing human beings the music world will ever see and such an audience will ever experience. With it being their last show for this tour, who had a clue of what Tool had under their little sleeve and what connections would be made. The setlist is as follows: The Grudge (-) Ions (intro) Stinkfist 46 & 2 Parabola Schism Sober Jimmy Disposition Reflection Parabol/a film clip Triad (with Melvins drummer) Ænema Lateralus The visuals were amazing and im sure many would agree that no person really knew where to look with Maynard's incredible voice, Danny's mindblowing drumming, Justin's energy and Adam's harmonious sound. Along with the incredible visual show and such added performances as the Schism walkers and Triad gymnasts. A connection was made tonite and the feeling surrounded the entire centre. Thanks for your fantasic show boys. I will see you again, soon i hope. A good word should go out to Phil, Ash, Sam, Souf, Stoikes, Jon and Nikki for with whom i witnessed such an amazing and heart felt event. See you soon. Spiral on, keep going. Trav

Sorry this isn't a setlist, but just 2 little things: 1. Stop the fucking fake setlists! Although some people seem to have posted the same one for Perth, so it's probably genuine. 2. ..... and if it is genuine, HOLY SHIT! what a setlist. can't fucking wait for punchestown (ireland) on the 26th. ok thanks sorry bye

I managed to race down in time this afternoon to catch the Danny Carey signing. Had a quick chat with him, and got my salival boxes signed. I have to say, he's a really great guy. Such an excellent show. I was in the front row directly in front of Adam, and I had a great view of all 4 of them. The animations on the screens were really awesome, complimenting the songs perfectly. The set-list was better than anything I could've hoped for. i won't bother attempting to remember it, but I'll say that it was simillar to the past australian shows. they opened with the grudge, which was followed by the - ions bit, which lead into an extended version of stinkfist. they played 46&2, jimmy and sober, which was kinda unexpected, from what i gathered from the recent setlists. maynard didn't say much, apart from "This is tool. Welcome", and before aenima he said something along the lines of "we'd like to thank the melvins, and mark & hanna of osseus labrint, who are going back home to LA, which we hope is still there", and that obviously meant that aenima was next. at the end he thanked us all for sharing this moment with them, and there was a big group hug as they ditched stuff into the crowd. the vibe was unbelievable, and the show completely blew my mind. the higlights for me personally were the grudge, aenima, 46&2, and lateralus. we waited out to see if they'd come out to sign stuff, but we were told that they caught the midnite plane back home. danny, adam, maynard and justin, thanks so much.

Me Again.. Just came up with a list which I'm pretty sure is correct. PS, every list before this one is absolute bs. The Grudge - ions Stinkfist (extended) 46 & 2 Eon Blue Apocalypse Parabola Schism (extended) Sober Jimmy Disposition Reflection (Adam stays on stage, repeating end riff) INTERMISSION (Parabola Video) Triad (With Dale from The Melvins) Aenima Lateralus ps: Maynard dedicated Jimmy to Julian.

Well. I had anticipated this gig for some time and I was not dissapointed. We got front row right-of-centre lounge positioning, and I could see everything, all the time. We were just to the right of the left speaker stack, so we got quite an aural bashing. As for the performance? -Jizz- Starting out a little average, maynard and co were playing at their peak ability by Sober, and god damn, by that time I was so moved by the performance I was almost in tears. The security staff were great, the sound was flawless and intimidating The Melvins were boring. Maynard was dressed casually, with a stripe down the front of his face. no blue body paint this time, as I had expected, but his performance and presence were unspoiled. I think when they realised the crowd they were dealing with (anyone who's part of the Perth metal scene knows what I"m talking about) they began to play tighter and harder. I was happy with my 78 bucks worth and would do it again 100 times over. Shout outs to the security guards. An overall Harrowing experience.

I was totally blown away - after reading the other Aus setlists and finding Undertow heavily featured I was pleasantly surprised to get FOUR Aenima songs including 46 & 2 and Jimmy, and the extended stinkfist. This has been my best concert experience ever and I'd like to share a little of it with you :) The full setlist: 1. A long humming thing with the wreath logo on the videos. 2. The Grudge. Maynard had his back to the crowd right until Disposition came on. 3. Short (-) ions intro immediately led into Stinkfist (extended version) with some extra lyrics which appear to be from Suspicious Minds, and another instrumental extension (the latter the same as the Atlanta 15/5/01 bootleg). 4. 46 & 2 - the drum solo coming into the final instrumental was striking. What can I say? :) Maynard said "Good evening" at the end of it. 5. Aeon Blue leading into Parabola. 6. Schism. Now it was my opinion and that of a couple of others that the verses were off key although the instrumentals in between were fine :) In the middle, there was this long haunting A minor chord on some kind of synthesiser(?) with the Osseus Labyrint people walking on all fours kind of like a horse or cow, after about 2 mins the song resumed with the picked solo from Adam. 7. Sober. 8. Jimmy - Preceded with "We don't do this one often, it's about finding your way home. I want you all to join..." 9. An extended instrumental piece which I did not recognise, it wasn't an Aenima segue. Very understated and led in from Jimmy. 10. Disposition/Reflection - What can I say? The bass in Reflection just totally soaked the entire venue, it was warm and wonderful :) 11. Adam played the closing notes from Reflection for around 6.5 minutes. 12. Intermission - video of Parabol/Parabola 13. Triad - Very different to studio version but recognisable (I thought it might be Eulogy or Disgustipated until the guitar screeching about a minute in!). A lot more African drumming and Osseus Labyrint on trapeze, with the guitarist from the Melvins openly competing with Adam and the Melvins drummer on a small set of drums to the right of Danny. 14. Aenema - preceded by "We'd like to thank you for sharing this moment with us, and thank the Melvins for joining us this tour. They will be leaving us this evening to fly to Los Angeles ... if its still there". The faster drumming sounded almost like the sort of thunder you hear in Ticks & Leeches studio version, but it was otherwise faithful to the original. I watched carefully for changed lyrics in the "fret for" section but they were the usual ones. Maynard changed around the first and second stanzas of "fuck l ron hubbard" though, that became the second stanza. 15. Lateralus.

setlist the grudge (-) ions stinkfist 46 + 2 eon blue apocalypse parabola (without parabol intro) schism sober jimmy disposition reflection intermission, played the parabol/parabola video triad (the drummer from the melvins played here) aenima lateralus Overall I thought the show was amazing, it sounded better than it does on cd, and the setlist seems very good from what i've heard of other shows. After the show a lot of people were complaining about no songs off Opiate, and some wankers were yelling out "hooker with a penis", but I don't think it would have made any difference to the show, the songs they played were amazing, especially with Jimmy which is rare for them to play. Maynard didn't speak all that much, after 46 + 2 he said "Good evening. We are tool. Welcome." The next time he spoke was before jimmy, saying "this is a song we don't do all that often, we invite you to share the moment (or something like that), I'd like to dedicate this to Julian". The next time he spoke was before aenima, saying "i'd like to thank the melvins for doing this tour with us, they're returning to Los Angeles after the show, they hope it'll still be there". Finally before lateralus he said "we'd like to thank you for sharing this moment with us, and we hope, that we have been a catalyst, for healing". I think he was a little pissed off at this point however because assholes who probably didn't know better were throwing glow sticks at him and one hit Justin; he didn't look too happy. The other band members were good, however Adam didn't move from his side of the stage except for the lateralus "jam", Justin seemed right into it and Danny was also very animated. Maynard did his usual dancing/moving to the music, he had a blue stripe painted down his face, at the start he was wearing a black cloak of some sort, he took this off and was wearing a blue shirt and black leather pants. It was also funny that after 46 + 2 he was flexing his muscles with his back to the crowd, cracked me up. Highlight songs for me were sober, the grudge, jimmy and aenima. Only downs for me were not the show but some of the people in general admission, who would not stop attempting to mosh, even in songs such as reflection, and there were two guys in white shirts who were shoving everyone in an attempt to get to the front, but the security quickly dragged them out, which was good. Also of note is Stinkfist had an extended verse just after he says "if i ain't gonna feel a thing at all...", which was basically improv i think, adam doing a neat guitar solo. Also during the grudge, maynard did the full length scream, which was amazing, as the crowd couldn't keep the scream up!! (i was in general admission/the mosh). Lastly, at the end the maynard, danny, justin and adam had a big group hug, then maynard threw 3 or 4 water bottles into the crowd, adam threw some picks, danny threw 2 drum skins and about 4 drum sticks, and justin threw some picks into the crowd. Maynard walked off after he threw the bottles, but the other 3 stayed and waved to us, seeming in a really good mood. Also, Osseus Labrint were quite amazing, doing all this weird contortionist stuff on the ground during schism, bobbing their heads, and during triad they went up to the roof and, hanging from their feet, embraced each other. Danny then started the drum solo and they did heaps of weird movements and contortions during triad, which was awesome in conjunction with the visuals being played. Oh and also, from what I could see, the whole 12,000 seat capacity of the entertainment centre was filled, with maybe a couple of seats empty. Overall an excellent night, the band played perfectly with no noticeable errors, and although maynard didn't talk much, I think this was to emphasize the fact that the band are about the music, not their own personalities/egos, which was really great to see. Look forward to seeing them if they ever come back, although it'll probably be in another 5 years, it'll be well worth the wait.

Well what can you say about that? It was the most amazing emotionally powerful show I've ever seen. TOOL are undoubtedly the greatest band on earth and they showed that last night...the setlists above are pretty much correct, Maynard didn't say much but didn't need to. The vibe throughout the place was electric. The sound roaring from every one of the speakers was mindblowing. Danny, you are a legend mate! One thing Maynard also said was he hoped they'd served as some sort of catalyst that night and Maynard, you did. I've never been so rocked by such a complete performance like that....they are completely untouchable in the world of music today as far as I'm concerned....if you get the chance, get along and see them live, it is soo worth it!

What can I say... My first tool show, and an amazing experience! Good to hear Jimmy played as a diversion from the usual setlists for other shows, plus quite a few other tracks off Aenima Disappointed that nothing other than Sober was played off Undertow - would loved to have heard Flood, Prison Sex, or 4C. But hey, you can't have everything... And what was played was amazing! Osseus Labyrint dancers during Schism and Triad were absolutely amazing... mind-blowing! And I can't believe they were totally naked... that takes guts! Pure beauty. Visuals were amazing also! Humorous point of the night would be a toss-up between Maynard's muscle flexing during 46-2 (+ other assorted gestures) and the red-necks trying to mosh to triplicate time (a-la Lateralis style)!!! Humour me for a minute here - is it just me, or does it piss anyone else off that the only way some fans can connect (spiritually) with the music and lyrics is to jump up and down and thrash their hair around...morons! I hate to get down on things, but that pissed me off! But gave me the perfect opportunity to put philosophy to practice... "let go, let go, let goooooo!" If I'm being too hard on any of you redneck metalheads, I'm sorry! Please prove me wrong, and tell me you got something more from that amazing performance... These guys really channel spiritual and emotional energy thru their music - it's been "pressed" in Lateralis, and the live performance near brought me to tears... the emotions and atmosphere for the first four tracks (The Grudge, Stinkfist, Sober, Parabola?) were overwhelming! Respect to all members of the band. They put on a "performance" that was all about the music - Maynard's back to the crowd and painted face, Adam's straight-faced, emotionless guitar playing... these guys are the narcissistic anti-thesis! I love you guys.... thank you! To all other Tool fans out there... p.l.u.r. See you on the other side...

The setlists above are correct (of course ignoring the ones posted before the concert was on) was an absolutely amazing concert. sound was not far from distorted in parts and i'm not sure but i think maynards voice might be suffering slightly after a few weeks on the road, but he still has a very powerful voice. osseus labyrint were interesting...came out halfway through schism and walked around arched over with their legs straight but hands on the ground and heads flopping back and forth as per schism film clip. surprised to see jimmy included. also surprised about aenema cause they don't seem to have been playing it lately... usually opiate insted. but most of all was glad they played forty six and two... in my opinion it is their best song. thankyou to tool for coming all the way to the most isolated city on earth and not just playing one or two shows in sydney or melbourne and calling that an australian tour like other bands tend too. it is greatly appreciated and shows that tool really do care about their fans. thank you.

Tool were mindblowing last night, it was the best concert I've ever been to and everyone that I went with came to that consensus too. Reflection live was amazing its one of those songs that sound so much better live like Pushit does. Triad was a very powerful performance. Other highlights of the show were definitely Aenima and Lateralus. Seeing Osseus Labyrint do their acrobatic routines was awesome, how can they hang upside down for soo long...crazy shit. Maynard ddin't say much throughout the show but I guess the music speaks for itself. The glow sticks looked cool when they were been thrown into the crowd but some idiots were throwing them onstage and I thought that was rude it caould have hit someone and it was right when Maynard was about to do his "Take this moment speech.." Hope they tour again soon :)

It was the best show I have seen, I would like to thank Tool for making this night worth it. The visuals were stunnig, the sound was great (my ears are ringing!), and Maynard has to be the best singer in the world, however there were some fuckwits who had to throw shit at the band which really pissed a few people off. Apart from that downer it was a mind blowing experience and the crowd enjoyed every minute of it.

WOW! I was blown away and humbled at the same time by the show. It was more real than i expected. Most people have covered the goings on of the show but i thought i'd add some more... -During Parabola the animation of vaginal muscles was, er, interesting :) -Just b4 Dale walked off stage after Triad, Maynard said something like "Ozzy Osbourne on drums". But the funiest part was the meat-head behind me who though the was for real! (Dale did walk/run off stage in a half assed Ozzy/Mummy style walk tho) -To the same meat-head who obviously had no idea of the shows goings on, screaming at the band to play Aenima after finishing Reflection and walking off stage, saying "You better fucking play Aenima, I want my $72 bucks worth (even though tix were $78, the rednecks aren't to good at maths doen here), what the fuck is this video shit, they've already played this song, why are they doing it again"...Dumb-ass -Danny gave adam a drum skin to throw out into the crowd. His frisbee effort landed it where audiences usually are too far away to receive stuff thrown off the stage! -During Lateralus, the backcone spiral animation was amazing and kept evolving throughout the song (to eventually become a double or triple spiral with an eye at the centre). Maynard turned his back to the crowd during this end part and i thought that must be a total mind fuck lookin at that!! And there was one part where a ringing noise came out of the PA which i thought was my ears bursting and bleeding... -The 4 rounds of applause to Adam while finishing Reflection (someone mentioned b4 he repeated the riff for 6.5mins) was kinda funny, because no-one expected him to keep going. -No-one knows who Tricky is... -And the try-hard mosh throughout the entire show was pathetic considering most of the heavy parts of tool songs (a-la Grudge ending) have odd timing so moshing is rediculous, and it last all of about 5 jumps b4 people realise 'hey this ain't workin'. Well, hey dick-head you don't need to try in the first place! Too many freaks, not enough circuses...keep it real

Great show, but its disppointing all the redknecks ruining it by trying to kill each other. Next time just enjoy the show. I felt for me the highlight besides sober, ænema and jimmy was those few minutes when the lights came down and before the band came out, it was something i'd waited 4 years for. Everyone has said everything else worth saying. Thank you Tool. Fuck you, assholes of perth.

This was truely one of the most amazing things i had ever seen.the whole experience was perfect. Even the drive there, with three friends who have the same love of tool as i do, listening to Lateralus on the way, eagerly awaiting getting there. Everyone has already regurgitated everything about the concert. Lucky i was sitting down because i hate those redneck mother fuckers that only want Hooker with a Penis and Ænema. They are missing the whole point of Tool. Oh well, fuck them. I loved how there was no real light on the band, and the screens for the visuals because it emphasises what the band have been saying all these years, that it's all about the music. Anyway, my main highlights were disposition/reflection, Ænema and Lateralus. Yes, those last two songs were very intense and amazing. Anyway, it's been a full day and night since the concert and i am still feeling very detatched to everything but that moment. I can't even imagine their next album. thanks for reading, Blue eyes Swee(a)t

Who needs drugs when you can listen to Tool playing? Left me on a high that I'm still feeling now. Major respect for a seriously awesome sound.

My second Tool show. Saw them last at Metropolis in '98. Overall Metros was a much better venue. The sound seemed crisper than at the Ent.Cent. As well as the crowd being smaller and seemingly more appreciative. There was too much testosterone in the crowd on Saturday night. Maynard had his back to the crowd for most of the show. He had slowly worked his way around 90 degrees when someone just in front of me took a photo and he turned back around. Not sure if the two were really related but it seemed like a direct response to the camera's flash. Maynard was also speaking just before Lateralus, thanking the crowd for coming and about taking something positive from the night's experience when some moron, or morons, threw some glow sticks up on stage. Maynard just looked at where it landed and finished prematurely (it seemed) by saying, "Well, thanks." Like monkeys throwing their shit at each other in a zoo. That's what it reminded me of. At that moment it seemed so easy to me how someone could judge the entire crowd by those few dipshits, and disregard totally the fact that 99 per cent of the people were there to pay the band respect to their music and for what the band stands for. While all this was going on I had in the back of my mind an interview with the band saying they thought Australian audiences were more, "intelligent" and "appreciate the music" I don't want to harp on all the bad stuff, but I'd be less than honest if I said it didn't affect the experience for me. All this said and done however Tool were awesome. Jimmy was the highlight for me although there were so many others. Reflection was amazing. I stood there slack jawed through the whole thing, I'm sure. (Is it just me or did Justin's bass drop out during Reflection? He was standing on the edge of the stage, grooving along, then there was suddenly no bass. He looked over at Adam and then turned to his setup behind him. I thought I caught an almost imperceptible shrug of his shoulders. No matter, whatever did happen it didn't last long.) Danny was amazing. I'm sure he has four arms and four legs. Adam was a tight as ever (musically speaking that is) Justin came on stage holding a football scarf above his head, not sure what team it was though it was a little bit too dark. Tool are simply amazing live. Their live shows always give new dimensions to their music. I hope they continue being bothered coming to Australia and what's more to far-flung Perth. Cheers to Tool and to your whole stage crew, they also added immeasurably to the experience. See you again soon I hope.

WOW!!! Absolutely unbelievable, the set list was incredible. I got to the venue about 3 hours early, which enabled me to get on the front rail right in front of justin, and man are my ribs sore from the dicks behind trying to mosh to tool! jeez. But getting there early did spoil the biggest surpirise in history, because you could here the sound check from outside, and they did jimmy, with stinkfist and the gridge in their soundcheck!! Which of course makes for a pretty long sound check. So it kind of spoiled it when they played it, but it was no doubt the highlight, along with aenema... the drumming at the start of triad was incredible, and when the double kick came in in aenema i thought the place would fall down. A kind fuck you to the dicks who thought they could be "tough" and push their way in onto the rail. The poor 16 year old kid next to us who was first in line outside had his spot taken by some fat bloodnut. if you want the best view, get there early. Otherwise, I doubt I will ever see anything that good ever again. Thanks tool.

just like to say that despite the sentiments expressed in a number of reviews not every person at this concert was a "redneck" and that all the people i met were very happy to have been graced with the experience. smiles all round! andrew seems to have posted one of the most accurate descriptions of the night. thank you tool for coming to our city.

Just an important note for those of you looking for recordings of the concert - www.deadohiosky.net has got a recording of jimmy and the little jam before disposition, sound quality is excellent. The guy who did it is called jamie - damn i wish he gave his email because he might have more of the show recorded!

Oh my god. Writing a review will not justofy this concert. Setlist was the best possible, vocals, drumming, guitaring, video, lights, it was all completely amazing. The sound quailty was especially awesome, very loud even back where I was sitting (top of first blocks), and sounded even better than the studio recording. I was not that great of a Tool fan prior to this, but they are now definitely up there with the best of them. This was not a concert, it was an experience. Seeing Tool IS NECESSARY.

quickly, the show was unbelivable.exceeded even the highest of expectations. atmosphere was great towards the back of the GA section. except the guy yelling STINKFIST! after they'd already played it. justin's scarf appeared to be a chelsea one. chelsea played in, and lost, the FA Cup final Saturday night. he is english afterall. sound was incredile

OH MY GOD. This was quite possibly the best night of my life, I have been looking forward to the Tool concert for about 3 years (amount of time I have been into them). Setlist: Mantra-type thing The Grudge (-) Ions / Stinkfist Forty Six & 2 Parabola (not Parabol) Eon Blue Apocalypse / Schism jimmy Sober Disposition Reflection (extended ending) Parabol / Parabola Video Clip Triad (w/ Melvins drummer) Ænema Lateralus Overall it was an amazing show, Maynard was in top form. I was in the mosh right in front of Adam, amazing to watch...Danny also excellent. I didn't really see Justin that much but from what I did see he was very good as well (obviously). Highlights for me were Forty Six & 2, Sober, Triad, Ænema, and Lateralus. 10/10 easily!!!!

anything i attempt to explain will only be read by those who werent at the show as mere thoughts or opinions. to truly understand the aura of a tool concert, as you all would know, you have to be there in the moment. the visuals were amazing and anyone who claims they detracted from the quality of performance obviously does not realise how much creative vision and human effort goes into such a project. osseus labryint added another dimension, and, combined with the band themselves, the visuals provided an amazingly artistic atmosphere. the grudge was as entralling as it is on the album and maynard was metaphorically on fire. the highlight i felt was disposition/reflection/triad. disposition seemed in some way three dimensional in its feel and the bass during reflection was incredible. triad live made me realise how interesting the song really is. H. was also incredible. in case you are thinking hang on, i saw tool in brisbane but was too late with my review. the thing that set this concert apart from other bands was the fact that it was an experience more than a show. i was there, completely lost in myself, the instrument for my saturation being tool. i walked out and realised that, although i dont necessarily rememebr every single, minute detail of the perfomrance, i will never see another like it. eleven out of ten on the rating scale.

Just a quick note that the lyrics during the extended section of Stinkfist were from Suspicious Minds (words and music by Mark James) and I'm almost certain that the lines Maynard sang were : We're caught in a trap I can't walk out Because I love you too much, baby. Apparently Mark James got in the charts with this song at a young age and 3 weeks later was blown off the charts by Elvis. Not relevant in any way, but perhaps more interesting than "TOOL FUCKING ROCKED!!!"

Hi guys, saw my first tool show last Saturday, at the Ent. Centre Perth. First let me say Tool were unbelievable, there extraordinary musical and artistic visions were on show in a breath taking hour and a half of images, shapes and colors, a visual and musical onslaught from start to end. Highlights included sober, schism, with wierd naked figures contorting and writhing on the stage, and of course Aenima. Disappointing to me was Maynards lack of interplay with the audience, ok its very cool to be aloof and stand with your back to us for most of the time but at 80 bucks a ticket i wouldve liked him to reveal a bit more about himself and the music. Also missing was an encore and great songs such as eulogy and H. and nothing off Opiate got a look in! Even so, Tool were graceful, majestic, powerful and are true musical visionaries at a time when music seems to have taken a back seat to starter caps and corporatism. Seeing grown men in the audience hugging and almost crying for the joy of seeing Tool come to Perth was a tribute to their power. Rating 9.5/10
