Well, New Orleans being the center of Voodoo that it is, we certainly did get treated to a marvelous Tool show at the sold-out Lakefront Arena. Shit yeah baby! Here was the lucrative play-list Third Eye (yes third eye, the song everyone clamors for) The Grudge Stinkfist Parabol Parabola Ticks + Leeches (yes ticks and leeches, the one everyone has been praying for at their shows) Pushit Opiate ---------- Flood Schism Triad Lateralus "damn that's eerie" -Dante in Clerks pretty much summed up the night for me. the stage setup was as people have been describing it, except for one red, glowing skull, perched atop a stack of Amplifiers behind Adam. odd. pe

what a night...this might sound hard to belive but this is what happened first off tomahawk was amazing, but as for TOOL,it was different... Justin walked on the stage first and told us that "Maynard would not be attending the show tonight due to an illness" and then he said something about "so this song is for Maynard" then all of a sudden these kids from the french quarter came out on stage tapdancing to the beat of eulogy while Danny and Adam shared the vocals(my fav part of this song was when Danny yelled the part "he had alot of nothing to say". then next they went in to sober with Rev.Jim Baker on vocals while Rev.Jerry Farwell stripped all the way down to just beads (nice beads too)....the "trust me" part of this song was the highlight of the song. then (as some of us say down here) BAM!!! straight into 4 degrees while the reverends have analsex on stage, they get distracted and the song ends(wow) next was parabol/parabola,it was good, the reverends did vocals on this one too the neat part of this song was when the giant molecule from the video crushed Rev.Jerry Farwell and as he fell over dead...confetti shot out of his ass(i think some got in my eye).......but straight in to the paitent with mike patton and kevin rutmanis on vocals...one word describes this version;beautiful. then to close out this short but different TOOL show they had ELVIS do the vocals on stinkfist(with some mimes on stage,i think that they are from the french quarter also) over all it was a good show when it ended all the contributers to the show came out and gave a big group hug and then started throwing shoes at the crowd have fun at your TOOL show,i know i will...haha

HELLO FELLOW APPARITIONS CAUGHT UP IN THE CONSUMER MADNESS OF AMERICA. YES, IM POSTING SOMETHING JUST FOR THE SAKE OF POSTING SOMETHING. IM THAT FUCKING RUTHLESS. FIRST, DANNY CARY DOES NOT THROW OUT THE STIX HE USES DURING THE SHOWS. HE THROWS OUT HIS SIGNATURE STIX THAT HE HAS A PILE OF RIGHT BY HIM. SO, ITS STILL COOL TO GET A STICK, BUT NOT THAT COOL. SO DONT GO THINKING YOUVE GOT A HOLY RELIC IF YOU GET ONE. SECOND, IM FROM THE MIDWEST AND I KNOW THE MIDWESTERN MENTALITY. IF YOU GO TO A SHOW AND YOU DONT LIKE THE OPENING BAND THEN DEAL W/IT FOR A HALF HOUR TILL TOOL COMES ON. DONT START BOOING AND YELLING AND IGNORANT SHIT LIKE THAT BECAUSE MORE THAN LIKELY TOOL ARE FANS OF THE BAND AND ITS DISRESPECTFULL TO THEM AND THE OPENER. ITS AN OPENING BAND, ITS NOT LIKE ITS GONNA BE THE FUCKING ROLLING STONES OR SOMETHING. SO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE ESPECIALLY IN THE PIT TO SHUT THE FUCK UP AND KEEP AN OPEN MIND BECAUSE ITS GONA PISS TOOL OFF AND CAUSE THEM TO NOT GET INTO THE SHOW IF THEY HEAR A BUNCH OF IDIOTS YELLING SHIT AND BOOING. BY THE WAY THEY ARE USUALLY WATCHING THE OPENING BANDS FROM SOMEWHERE IN THE VENUE SO KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN. AHHH- NOW THAT THATS OFF MY CHEST IM OFF TO SACRIFICE SOME YOUNG VIRGINS FOR GEORGE BUSH SR. I know your fathers never loved you, but you have to get over it and move on children. T.D.N is not the place to cry about it on. get some professional help and stop repressing your homosexuality. its a case of the ol "Daddy love me", mixed with "I wish i had Maynards dick in my mouth, but i know he'll never give it to me" syndrome.

Holy shit, Tool is unreal. Setlist as best i can remember, definitely a little out of order.... Sober The Grudge 46 & 2 Parabol Parabola(stole the show was simply unbelievable) Schism The Patient Aenema(fucking badassed) Intermission Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus(also amazing) Parabola was incredible, the energy on the floor was unbelievable. Tomahawk was OK, but not really what anyone wanted to hear before Tool. Tool is the best band out there, you need to see their live show to believe it. It really cant be described on a forum. Danny's new drum kit is amazing. The highlights of the set were definitely Parabol/Parabola, Aenema, and Lateralus. When the band made the transition from Parabol to Parabola the noise was just so loud it was like an explosion and everyone began moving like crazy. During Aenema the crowd were all screaming "Learn to swim!" in time with Maynard and at each other. Lateralus is a great song and a good way to finish the show. After they finished they all hugged and thanked the crowd, it was the best show Ive ever been to.

Maynard came out painted head to toe with black paint with florescent colors all over. The crowd was awesome as they sang along on almost all of the songs. Hearing patient was awesome as they did not play it in Shreveport. Danny's new drum set still kicked ass. Red confetti everywhere during the patient. The disco ball was spinning during lateralus. Glad to see my friends from baton rouge who I met in Shreveport. Glad they were able to get tickets at the last minute.

I was enjoying Tomahawk for the most part, until he tried to get the whole crowd to chant "Koon Ass"...then "Ragin' Cajun", and then got mad when we wouldn't stop booing. the only song i really hated was this crappy take on an instrumental. Tool was much better this year at UNO then they were at VooDoo Fest. Here is the setlist: 1. Sober (with new intro) 2. The Grudge 3. Ions 4. Stinkfist (extended) 5. Forty-Six & 2 6. Schism 7. Parabol/Parabola 8. Eon Blue Apocalypse/The Patient 9.Ænema --Interlude-- 10. Disposition/Reflection/Triad (with Joe Paul Slavey) 11. Lateralus Today, Maynard was blue in a black speedo. Joe Paul Slavey is apparently the inventor of black velcro, and just recently broke up with...LaToya Jackson. "He says he's a psychic..but he didn't see that coming..". The visuals, as per usual, were magnificent. I loved my seat, i don't think you could get a bad seat in the entire arena. I look foward to seeing them again in Oct/Nov in Biloxi. I advise everyone and anyone to go see Tool in an inside arena. I would also like to see pictures, videos, or hear recordings if anyone has them. pictures most of all.

It's 1230 am, just arrived home from the show in NOLA. Only one rant...a hearty "FUCK YOU" to the bitch that got me thrown out during the last strains of Triad. If you would have looked, you could have noticed that the section I was in was sitting down and grooving to the music. Instead you parked your six foot amazon ass right in front of us. Because you wanted to press charges for me smacking you in the shoulder with my shirt to get your attention...I got tossed out while you were able to stay in the show. I feel a little better...not. The show was spiritual and moving until my untimely anti- climax. Don't understand what all the fuss is about Tomahawk. I enjoyed their set tremendously. Had to laugh when Mike Patton called the dumbasses booing in the front "Redneck Coon-Ass Fucks". TOOL....Wow!!! Maynard was very active on his podium. Hope someone posts what he had on his head. Didn't get a chance to see the group hug at the end of the show(Amazon Bitch). I could tell he was painted blue, but that was all. The guys added "The Patient" back to the setlist at the expense of "H.". I personally would like to hear a few songs from Undertow because I missed the earlier tours due to a six- year hitch with Uncle Sam's Navy in Europe. Thank you TOOL for letting me into your life for a short time. Can't wait till next time because my abrupt exit left me without a proper end to this experience. Be Patient.....

Tool yet again put forth a great show tonight at UNO. It's easy to see why this band is the best at what they do. Their live performances are better than their albums. If only my friends would've bought tickets for the show, they would understand why I'm obsessed with this band. Tomahawk was amazing. Like someone said in a past review, Mike Patton is a master at his instrument, his voice. My personal favorite of the night by them was "101 North" I wasn't offended at all by his remarks about us CAJUNS. Tool came out and Maynard looked trippy. The neon body paint looked great on his blue painted body. I wasn't that upset they didn't play flood because I've seen them play it before in 98' The highlight of the evening had to be "Triad" The visuals and back drops were simply breath taking. They were way better then at voodoo fest in october. Alex Grey is one gifted artist. In closing, If you're going see Tool on this tour, don't bother getting really close to the stage. You won't be able to get the whole picture. You'll know what I mean when you get there.

This was this reviewer's 7th Tool show

I just sent this off in an email to a friend about tonight's show, but I thought it'd be pertinent... Now for the bad, or why I'm losing more and more faith in humanity... Probably 10 minutes before the lights went out for Tool two beligerently drunk asses sat down in two seats we had saved for Amy's sister and her friend. Amy's sister shows up, everybody is like 'look, jackass, these seats are taken. move.' Their response: 'I want to see Tool.' People sitting around us start yelling at the two idiots, they don't budge. Lights go out, tension escalates, one of the idiots punches Amy's sister's boyfriend in the face. Melee. The boyfriend starts throwin blows and the guys in the row in front start jacking the idiot too. Pause. Idiots act like they're gonna leave. Step out into the aisle, and then the main idiot jacks the boyfriend in the face again. Melee. Guy in front row pins idiot back against the seat while guy in the row behind us starts rapid firing on his face. Pause. Idiots act like they're gonna leave again. Main idiot, again, punches boyfriend in the face and then sprints away. Okay... that was totally fucked up and is wreckin my vibe, but it's over and I can now enjoy the show. Which I do. I was able to completely banish the bad vibes and focus. Fast forward to the end of the show. On the way up the stairs to the exit Amy asks, 'What if those idiots are there waiting for us?' No, surely not, I think. They've had two hours to realize the stupidity of the whole ordeal and besides, the main idiot got the last punch in. Oh was I wrong. I was too far back to witness it, but on the way to the car, the main idiot sucker punches the boyfriend two more times. Brief melees ensue both times, but basically, everyone around wants this idiot to die. So we catch up and we're getting close to the car when who appears?...the idiotic duo. He talks shit for a second, then kicks Amy's cousin in the nuts, who was really just standing there. The boyfriend utters a 'he was just standing there' but doesn't even get that out before he gets kicked in the nuts. At this point, I try to step in and be like 'whoa, this is entirely too stupid to be happening,' but before I can even get a word out he jacks me in the face. At that point he jumped on the boyfriend who was reeling from the blow to the groin. It took me a moment to get my bearings, but I immediately came up behind him, slipped my arm around his throat, took his legs out with my leg, and went down on top of him and pinned him to the ground, telling him very loudly and in his ear that this is fucking stupid and he needs to get a grip. All the while his idiot sidekick is throwing rocks at me, and the sidekick's sister is kicking me in the head. Eventually I let the idiot up and he scurried off, never to be heard from again. Could anything be more totally fucking lame?? My moment of elation was totally fucking wrecked, because some fucking 25 year old imbicile decides to pick a fight with a fucking 17 year old. Is there a word to adequately describe this? It's like cruel insanity. If there was ever an argument against general admission seating. My jaw fucking hurts. I'm goin to bed.

I really love this band and it saddens me to see so many of it's fans(including the one's that post on here) to be such fucking morons. To me, Tool is about intelligence and enlightenment and none of that is taking place with these idiotic reviews. Since the set list seems to be staying put and I still have 29 days left until I see them, I think I'll go and get my fix elsewhere. Maybe within the music? Seems to be a safer place to have intelligent thought. Have fun with your fake set lists and constant mental retardation. I guess I'll probably see some of you being carried out of the pit, since the idiot majority are the one's who start them.

This was this reviewer's 4th Tool show

Well I have to say....after seeing them two nights in a row for their fall tour I didn't think the show could get any better. I've been reading reviews for weeks. Checking out the set list, hoping they will play particular songs, analyzing the shows, I even went as far as seeing if there was a pattern in their set list with extreme hopes of hearing Opiate. But I mainly concentrated on the set list. Really didn't read reviews about the actual set (stage). But I knew enough to know the naked people wouldn't be hanging and thrashing about, which made me a bit disappointed. So with much to my surprise (not sure why I am surprised...we are talking about TOOL here) the show was spectacular. The setlist was basically the same with a few refreshing surprises. But the stage is where my amazement kicked in. This was by far the most colorful show I've ever seen. Alex Grey's artwork was an exhibit in itself. They had two 57 x 30 ft. backdrop scenery's. The two backdrops are from the paintings, InterBeing and Collective Vision, by Alex Grey. Also during the songs Parabol/Parabola six of Alex Grey's Sacred Mirrors are reproduced at 20 feet in height. But my favorite was seeing Maynard painted BLUE from head to toe. After The Grudge I made my way up to the stage just to get a good look at Maynard. He was blue with orange and white tribal designs all over him. So freakin cool. Especially during Lateralus when he stood on a disc that slowly spun around while he dance with the kick ass disco ball that went from Black & White then to Red and Yellow. Maynard was unusually friendly with the crowd. I think it is the most I've ever heard him speak to the crowd live. He said hello to the audience at the beginning...trying to get a rise out of us. Saying we sounded more like Corpus Christi rather than New Orleans. He made fun of the guest drummer (who I believe was from Tomahawk...not sure) saying he was the maker of black Velcro and he had just broke up with Latoya Jackson. Then before Lateralus he said his usual piece about making this experience positive and using it. He even made several sexual references about the show making us horny and we should all go home and have sex. To be honest ..the dude could have gotten up there and spoke gibberish...I was just shocked to hear him being so friendly to the crowd. I really don't want to give away anymore than I already have cause you need to experience it for yourself. I would rate this show a perfect 10 and say it was the second best show I've ever seen. Pink Floyd of course being the first. But come on....we all know that TOOL is the modern day Pink Floyd.

This was this reviewer's 2nd? Tool show

I'm sorry to say but there should be an IQ test to get into concerts. Some morons don't belong there (and from last nights show this counts for people in the band). I was a huge FNM fan until last night when M.P. curses the crowd and flips them the bird and continues to play when nobody wants to hear the noise they are spewing out. When are people going to stop moshing? Go mosh outside and let the people inside enjoy the music instead of trying to protect girls/little brothers from a 750 lb goon. I'm glad to know some people (I like to believe the majority of them) went there found thier spot and just soaked up the genious that TOOL is music/lyrics/eye candy. They exemplify how the world should be they lead by example. I love thier philosophy and just about anything else they do from the reading list to the art work and comedians. Thier shows are moving but I was more impressed with thier Voodoo fest show last year. I'm not taking anything away from this one its just that I was 3rd row for voodoo and nose bleed for UNO. The most important thing is that TOOL is a band that is more about tranquility then anger; intiligent people then imbicles; talent then noise. I wonder how hard would it be to have a section for people there to enjoy the show and get thier money's worth? I will meet them 1 day, but thats going to be after I do something famous and thank them for the inspiration.

The last time Tool came to New Orleans, it was doing a festival, Voodoo Fest. It was way too crowded and the crowd was much too rowdy. This crowd, and show, were much better. Tool's stage set up, performance, everything...amazing. Maynard was painted blue with orange and green black-light paint on his face, right arm, right torso, and right leg, as well as a little spot on his left nipple. I was so happy that he dresses up more than last time, where he just wore some pants and shirt pretty much. And he moved around like some insane monkey on crack that wants to go to the bathroom...just great. There was lots of energy and the show was so amazing. And they opened up with sober...which was graeat since they didn't play anything from Opiate or Undertow last time. I got to the arena at 7:30 in the morning to get a good spot, and every second of wait was worth it. Do whatever you can to go see Tool.

Tool is simply brilliant. Everyone pretty much knows the setlist so I wont bother. It seems that on this tour, the guys are randomly switching H. and 46and 2. I already saw them perform 46 and 2 at voodoo fest so I was hoping for H. didnt get it but Tool is just so awesome no one can complain. I know a lot of fans want to hear the old shit more, as would I, but I was thrilled just to see the guys truly perform as only they can. Tomahawk was bad ass. I dont see how anyone can boo Mike Patton. He is a fucking madman. he fucked with the crowd but most deserved it for booing a genius. We met some cool people behind us which makes the whole Tool experience all the more better. I cant wait till they announce the dates for the next leg of the tour. P.S. fake reviews suck dick!!! losers.

Incredible show. I'll try to not repeat anything that's already been said. Maynard made the same comments as previous shows, so to say he was especially talkative isn't exactly accurate. Not that I'm complaining, because he was plenty animated in his performance. In fact, after seeing a video of the Hammerstein Ballroom show at the beginning of the tour, during which it seemed the band struggled to get into the show, I was really worried the performance would be similar. Not so. Maynard was intense the entire show, as were Danny and Justin. Adam was his usual stoic self, although he did move around a decent bit. A couple notes: Danny played a guest role on one of Tomahawk's songs, fooling around with some electronic/sound machine-looking contraption. Tomahawk was really an interesting act. Can't say I care for the music a whole lot, but their talent is undeniable. And people who get their panties in a wad over some of Patton's comments need to get a grip and realize he does that shit on purpose, just like a lot of acts do. If you weren't too busy taking it so damn seriously, you'd appreciate the humor in it. IMO, the jewels of the show were the Patient, Parabola, and Lateralus. Those songs sound infinitely better live, as do many of the others. Triad was mighty impressive as well. This is a show not to be missed!

Setlist is as follows: Sober The Grudge - Ions Stinkfist (extended, best version ive heard) 46 & 2 Schism (extended intro and middle) Parabol Parabola Eon Blue Apocolypse The Patient (AWESOME VERSION) Aenema --Intermission-- Disposition Reflection Triad (special guest) Lateralus Tomahawk played like 6 new songs than monday night. Patton really got the crowd roaring for him, people loved him depspite his smartass and dissing comments. When tool opened with sober, the energy of the arena was amazing. Maynard hit every note perfect. They went straight intro the grudge where the Alex Grey painiting, the the faces, skulls, and fetuses, was reveiled. Of the 20 second scream he got 17 seconds. Ions came on and maynard "Nalins?" "New Orleans?" "Sounds more like Corpus Christ" "so tell me, is this New Orleans?" Then ehy went into stinkfist whcih was the best version Ive ever heard. Maynard threw in both the extended lyrics. And adam's solo was outstanding. Other highlights for me include: Danny's solo on 46 & 2, the extended schism, parabol/a, and the bass in the intermission going down my throat. The patient live as so perfect it was beautiful. The entire triad live and the Sacred Mirrors, the 7 pointed star, and the lights are so moving, I almost teared when laterlus came on cause I knew it was over. I am just going to say that Triad w/ special guest, some guy who is a psychic and the inventor of black velcro, was amazing. It started out with him and Danny and a 3 minute drum solo. Breathtaking...Maynard's positive speech this time "I hope we've been a source of inspiration for you, or we just made you horny. Im the coming days, the in coming weeks, in the coming years, we hope you use this feeling you are having right now, to create something postive while having sex" Then laterlaus came on, perfect I say, and ended with spirling lights and a disco ball. Tool is the greatest experience I can ever reach.

Just wanted to say thanks to the guy in the 2nd to last row for letting us borrow his binocs. It's amazing how things work out: I ordered my tickets the hour they went on sale, but I ended up sitting in the 2nd row from the very back--you know, nosebleed back. Today I realized that everyone who was close to the stage probably missed some of the best projections the band has put out to date. So my seats weren't all that bad, and I wasn't that upset about shelling out 100$ for two tickets. Favorite overheard audience comment: "Why isn't the singer in the front? There's not even any lights on him. I want to see his face and stuff." Someone tried to explain it to her, but she commented, "That's just weird." Then, out of nowhere, two of Danny's signature drumsticks flew into our section and landed in each of her eyesocket. She couldn't see anymore, and at the end of the show, he came to the front, with all the lights on, and you could see his face. Now THAT's just weird. Thank you Tool. Thank you Kabir!

For all of those who have seen tool in the past, or have yet to experience a show...................find the closest city to your location and get a ticket. It's well worth any effort. This tour was amazing. I've heard of people in the crowd having orgasms or "toolgasms" during the show from the extreme emotions pulsing through the arena, and I had two. THe show sounded great in New Orlean's Lake Front Arena. They have really good sound equipment and acoustics in the building. People's reaction to Tomahawk was a mixed bag. I wish they could have had a little more support. Production, music, and the people were great. Another amazing experience.

I have no clue how anyone can say that last night's show was any good if they have seen Tool before. Ending the show with the songs that they did is ridiculous. 0 from Opiate and 1 from Undertow which was Sober, are you kidding me? I love everything about Tool but I paid $40+ to see a concert that would make me want to jump from the balcony. Disposition/Reflection/Triad, I have no idea what Tool is thinking. It seems like Tool is becoming this big commercial band that plays their hits and I always liked them because they were not that type of band. It is definitely sad to say that I will think twice about waking up early to get my ticket the next time they come around which will probably be 6 years from now.

hrm... first off: Tomahawk. they sucked. bad. i am not talking about Mike Patton heckling the crowd; that was hilarious. very andy kaufman-esque. i am talking about the actual music. just awful. but at least it gave me an excuse to yell out "i fuck your mother" to Mike Patton. now, then: Tool. jesus h. christ and his bastard brother barney, they were good. their fans, however, are a different story altogether. first, while i was waiting in line to get onto the floor, i heard some annoying sorostitute bitch for 30 minutes about how "if she didn't get to the floor, the concert wasn't worth her time, and she should just go shopping instead." *ahem* dear shallow cunt: go shoot yourself in the face. now. repeatedly. then, once i got onto the floor, it seemed like almost everyone there was more interested in hurting each other than in enjoying the band. frat boy idiots and their sorority whore counterparts made up, i would estimate, 90-95% of the crowd on the floor. they made it quite clear that all they wanted to hear was 'sober' (which was played) and 'prison sex' (which was not). while i greatly enjoy 'prison sex', i am glad that it was not played. i spent the better part of the night moving my fiancee out of the way of suddenly-emerging mosh pits and protecting her from drunk morons who felt like throwing each other into random people, and the playing of 'prison sex' would have just made it worse. furthermore, it has never before in my life been as apparent as it was last night that there are a hell of a lot of people in this world who have to idea whatsoever that there are other people in this world. i had more beer spilled on me by more stupid airhead bimbos just because they couldn't be bothered to watch where they were going last night than i ever thought possible. further exacerbating my anger was the fact that many of them threatened to hit me because THEY bumped into ME. of course, their dumb jock companions joined in, as well. some of the good parts of last night: the people who were tripping and rolling. they were so very, very nice. one of them actually went sideways because of Tomahawk's performance, which made me very upset with Tomahawk, but i and a few others were able to get his trip back to being good again. and, of course, Tool helped that, as well. the visuals at the show were simply beautiful. musically, the highlight of the show was the performance of Disposition/Reflection/Triad, which completely exhausted me both mentally and physically. by the end of the Triad, despite its crushingly heavy finale, i felt an overwhelming sense of peace to which i have never before come close. thank you, Tool. Maynard's brief interludes, as well as the group hug at the end, succeded in making the show the most inspiring and touching few hours of my life. and by the way, the did not play 'h', 'flood', 'third eye', 'ticks and leeches', 'opiate', etc. the set list posted by sean gibbons was correct. if i am not mistaken, a while before the band came on, a weird version of 'die eier von satan' was played, but i may have been mistaken.

We arrived at the UNOLA around 11 or so to check out the line. It wasn't bad at all, so we went on a food run. We picked up stuff, went to burger king, and came back. We sat in line for a good 30 or 40 minutes when we ran into Lacey's cousin Ron. He directed us to the Balcony seating line (we were in the pit line). That line was tons shorter. So we hung out. After about an hour, the guys next to us put on Kid A. Then Lauren visited us, and got a ticket. We waited forever. Hours. Finally a bigger crowd started gathering, as did dark clouds. Logan and Matthew's genius friend James arrived and stood with us. It drizzled. We waited more. Lauren joined us. We waited. We checked out women with nice boobs. We waited. Saw the guitarist from Deadboy. We waited. Then the UNOLA Security people pulled a whack-ass move and merged the two lines that were parallel to each other (both leading up Ramp 1). All of a sudden, a horde...and I mean a HORDE of people ran over to us. It stayed mushed and airtight for about 10 minutes when they finally opened the gates and patted us down. We were in. I ran up the ramp. Rachel and I scrambled to get the best seat we could. And we did. Facing the stage, we were to the immediate right of the center section. kind of at an angle. Jessie, Matthew, Logan, James and Lauren eventually found us. We waited. We looked at the stage. Finally, Tomahawk started. They were ok, but i certainly wouldn't pay to see them again. Mike Patton is annoying...even if he is just kidding. We waited. Creepy organ music was at a perpetual crescendo. It went on for what seemed like eons. Then, the moment of truth came. Right as the lights went down my eyes shut. The Lateralus circle of eyes came on the projection screens. A deep Tibetan monk chant came over the crowd. We shouted. It was nearly religious. Adam and Justin did some noise making. Then Justin began Sober. I noticed Maynard was painted blue and in a black speedo. From there it was sheer bliss. After Sober finished, The Grudge came on. Right as it did, a HUGE...HUGE backdrop of an Alex Grey painting appeared as its black curtain disappeared. Red lights...white lights...Maynard swaying. Danny's solo was an afterthought. After the Grudge, it went like this Forty Six & 2 Schism Parabol Parabola During Parabola, they showed the actual video that comes on MTV. The ending is so amazing... Then Maynard said something to the effect of "Thank you for supporting us. Sometimes we get caught up in the day to day bullshit and forget why we do things. Thank you for reminding us why we do this." From this I knew The Patient was next. This song was the song I was truly hoping to hear. Adam began Eon Blue and then the intro. He moved around for the first time. Red lights were everywhere. Red confetti/glitter fell on the pit. I could tell the band was really getting into this song. Maynard jumped around. Adam actually moved. This truly made me feel wonderful. Then came Aenema, another one of my favorites...during the "praying for rain" part, we all simultaneously put our hands up and swayed...as if it were planned. After Aenema was an intermission. Low rumbling from Adam's synth and visuals of a man's face and skull. Then came Disposition Reflection Triad. These three were millions of times better than at Voodoo Fest. I felt especially connected with the audience here, as well as with a certain someone next to me... During these, A huge 6 pointed star descended, and a new Alex Grey backdrop emerged. Also, banners depicting his Sacred Mirrors project became visible. After those three were done, Maynard gave us a speech about how he hoped we found the show to be a source of healing, inspiration, or horniness...then he told us to go home and create something positive...while having sex. The band huddled around Danny's drums. Adam began Lateralus. One of the best songs of the night. Afterwards, they came together in the middle of the stage, threw out some of their water bottles and Danny threw out drumsticks and drumheads. Then they all got a big group hug in. One of the most amazing nights of my life.

Last night’s show was nothing short of spectacular. The visuals were vivid and bold, and the band played their asses off. Maynard hopped around like an orangutan in his flashy blue outfit and belted out notes like no other even with his voice not feeling up to par. Justin and Adam kept it cool and calm, completely immersed in their respective instruments. And Danny Carey stole the show. His arms flailed all night long like a maniac, and you needed a graphing calculator to keep up with his ever-changing time sequences. For all those who think that mainstream or semi- mainstream musicians lack talent, Danny Carey will put you in a dyslexic coma. He may be the best drummer I’ve ever seen play live. And now for the anal debris of the show….TOMAHAWK. I went into the show with high hopes because I figured the lead singer of Faith No More and the drummer from Helmet would put together some pretty decent music. Well I was sorely mistaken. I’d rather listen to my grandparents play “Turtle” under the covers than listen to that crap again. I’d rather be on the receiving end of a rusty trombone from Sparky in cell block 6. That was the first time I’ve ever seen a band booed at a large venue. The fans should have been throwing flaming bags of dogshit on stage in conjunction with the boos. I’m really glad that there’s a McDonalds on every corner so these guys can have something to fall back on once Tool becomes too ashamed to be associated with them. When I got home, I had a horrible stomach ache. I think I may have come down with a slight case of TOMARRHEA. And if the lead singer Mike is reading this, when fans boo you, don’t make fun of them and then offer to play more, especially if you suck. And, by the way, there are no coonasses in New Orleans…it’s a fucking metropolis. You need to drive a few hours west to find Cajuns Mike. I don’t think it was a very wise idea to come back with shitty music once you’ve already established yourself as a respected musician in a respected band. It’s very similar to Larry Holmes coming out of retirement to fight Butterbean. It’s an embarrassment to your old, loyal fans. “You want it all, but you can’t have it” Mike. Hang up the gloves buddy, before it’s too late.

First of all, to everyone posting honest reviews of the concert, WHERE WERE YOU? I convinced myself at the concert that me and my friends were the only people there who had any idea what Tool was trying convey. Which even made a bit depressed at parts because here I was having one of the most uplifting experiences of my life and all these other people have no idea what's going on. If everyone would just stop and listen, really listen, we could change the world. We could change the fucking world, man. Before we were let into the arena, there was a huge line of people and someone was doing something illegal and looking out for cops and my boyfriend made the comment that "With all these people I don't know why we're still afraid of the cops." Yeah. And with the message Tool is delivering, why are we still fighting about beer being spilled? Fuck, why are we still drinking beer? Why are we doing anything short of transcending this fucking circus? All that said, last night was an incredible show. I had just seen them in Houston so I was able, without fear of missing something, to sit there with my eyes closed most of the time and just feel all that energy move through me. I learned a lot last night that hopefully I won't just forget in a few days time. Peace.

ok, i have read all the above posts... 90% of which are bull. so here is mine.... we got there at 2:00pm day of. after a few hours of waiting we found out that only 1400 people were bein let on the floor. we promptly cut forward about 200 people in line (sorry, but it's tool) after many hours of sweating and dehydration and confiscation of cigarettes!! we got our bracelets and got in. made our way to the floor. got there early enough so that me and my girlfriend were both guarenteed spots right at the barricade, couldnt see the screens hanging above left and right but the hell with that, we didnt pay 90 bucks for a pair of tickets to watch tv.... no matter what anyone says about tomahawk, no matter if they vibed with tool or not, they are talented. as far as musicians are concerned, they were tight and in control. they played it. once tool came on, i carried a balance of mental trancendance and protecting my girlfriend for the rest of the show. the only downer, ( we were right up on the baricade front and center) were the crowd surfers. every time we were really getting into things , we'd have some dip crashing around above us. i've seen tool a few times, and many other bands. this was by far the best concert i've ever been to. they extended a few songs, seemed really appreciative of our devotion and enthusiasm, and we were surrounded by people that were there just to be drowned in a band they loved. im glad we didnt encounter the bullshit drunks ive been reading about. all the people against the stage were there for devotion. tool was religous, nothing short. a perfect performance, and danny cant be human, no one plays drums that well. by the time it was over, we were drained, soaking wet, and completely deaf and overwhelmed. maynard threw out water, as well as a couple of others, and adam and paul threw the 2 picks they had been using. my girlfriend had paul's pick handed to her by a security guard. needless to say it'll be hanging on my wall soon. by the way , the security guards were dicks. we spent half the time at the barricade screaming at them to get out of our view of the band, and to stop harrassing everyone else at the barricade. all said and done, it was too much, id never give up the memory. we were surrounded by extreme tool fans, enveloped and molested by the music of the gods, nothing of our day could get any better. im still a day later trying to figure out how to describe the music and presentation. most of the posts ive read (specially the playlists) were fake. the songs kicked ass, a few were extended, doesnt matter what was played, its all religous. needless to say, if you saw the new orleans show, you will be seeing tool again. too f'ing much for words...... ps. at the last moment available, i tossed my cigarettes and lighter into a bush. after the concert, i stumbled out wet and deaf to that bush, ,, , my cigarettes and lighter were still there, those of you who were there know how f'ing cool that is.... wasn't it so fucking good???????????????

Well I had probably the best time at that concert then I have ever had in my entire life… it’s definitely a grand spectacle in my life! Maynard’s vocals blew my mind, and Mike Patton’s lung power alone can put you in awe! Ok so this is how the concert went… Tomahawk opened up and they played maybe 2 songs or so before they actually spoke to the crowd… don’t get me wrong, I love Mike Patton to death but he taunted the hell out of the crowd… told them to help him out with some audience participation and made them say “coonass” or would they prefer “ragin Cajuns”? lol… well he also called them fuckheads, and told them to be quiet or they would play for longer and that tool didn’t like to play to an angry crowd… I think he likes starting shit… but hey I was totally into it! Then tool came out… and blew my mind away! I never in a million years would have expected them to be soooooo good!!! It’s amazing what little short bald angry homo Maynard can do! I have earned a world of respect for him… I went there with my friend Spanky to see tool originally, and not totally being a huge fan of them, but I left with higher respect of them and now I can say I’m a HUGE fan! So thanks guys, and if they play in Baton Rouge later on this year then I’ll sure as hell be there too… but this time I’ll be in the front… thank you tool for the best night of my life… until the next concert!!! And by the way they had an awesome set list…I mean from opening up with Sober to closing with Lateralus… and everything in between was perfect! Couldn’t ask for a better show!!! Til the next concert, Jenn

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. OK, where can I possibly start? Tomahawk was really good, and I really don’t care if anyone else in the venue liked them or not. I have been a Mike Patton fan for several years, and I think he has incredible talent. While not my favorite Patton band, Tomahawk is indeed good enough to share a stage with the Greatest Band on Earth, TOOL. Mike Patton hit notes that I didn’t think were possible for a human being to achieve, and the band really jammed. Now, on to TOOL. I subscribe to the theory that you cannot go to a TOOL concert merely to watch them perform. A TOOL concert is an experience that must be fully taken in. That is exactly what I did, and I thought the show was the best I have ever seen. The visuals were incredibly visually stimulating and mind-boggling, while the music ranged from thunderous and booming to surreal and other-worldly. It was indeed a long, strange journey, and I enjoyed every single second of it. The set list was a really good one, with the exception of opening with “Sober,” which I must say that I did not agree with. Personally, I like to see them open with “The Grudge.” Needless to say, the performances of “Aenema” and “Lateralus” were fantastic. I did hope to see them perform “Pushit,” which, unfortunately, they did not do. They did, however, surprise me by playing “Forty- Six & 2.” I honestly did not see that one coming. I walked into UNO Lakefront Arena a huge TOOL fan, and walked out an even bigger one, if that was even possible. I also now believe Danny Carey to be the most underrated drummer on the planet, and he certainly verified that opinion. Thank you, friends, for reading this, and thank you, TOOL, for playing such a fantastic show. I really look forward to seeing these guys in Louisiana again. Spiral out, spiral out, Spanky

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. I have walked a straight and narrow path on this earth for the last 27 years of my life. At UNO's Lakefront Arena on a warm summer night I was knocked off my path by the greatest experience of my life. I had heard from my close group of friends who had experienced the Tool phenomenon, what I was about to witness but nothing prepared me for what I was about to see. I have never, ever experienced a night like that in my entire life. After some quick negotiating in line with some locals, we were guaranteed a wrist band which enabled us to view the Tool exhibition from the floor. Tomahawk was an entertaining, but some what strange opening act. Mike Patton's verbal assualt on the New Orleans crowd was well worth arriving early for. Then my body went numb as the house lights dimmed and I new I was seconds away from heaven. I could not sit still, like a child who had forgotten to take his ridalin. The band made their way onto the stage to the delight of the crowd. Maynard's blue body was shadowed by black light. The band eased it's way into it's setlist on Adam's opening chords to Sober. The mind blowing imagery flickered from the two video projectors overhead. I looked over at my boys standing next to me and I looked back at my other friends in the stands. They knew I would not be disappointed. I had a grin on my face from ear to ear as Maynard pounded through the lyrics. "I will work to elevate you , just enough to bring you down." My senses exploded simotaneously as Danny and Justin laid the groundwork for the rest of spiritual trip. When the band dove into the intro of Stinkfist, I totally lost control of myself. My friends next to me looked at me and then quickly looked away as I had an out of body experience. The songs were performed to perfection. Danny Carey and Adam Jones are far and away the most amazing human beings god has ever put on this earth. As a matter of fact, I wonder if they're even human at all. Tool's music works on so many levels. It forces you to think but at the same time rejoice in the fact that there are four people walking this earth with that much talent. They truly are a gift that keeps on giving. I know the band will proabably never read this, but I want to say a special thank you for everything that you have done. I just wish I had jumped on board a lot sooner than I did. There is not one band out there that can rival Tool and what they are capable of. Not one fucking band. The night winded on. The other highlights for me were Parabola, The Patient, and Reflection/Triad. I cannot even find words to describe those songs and what they meant to me. I've rambled on long enough. Those who read this will get the point. If anyone out there has not seen this band, you are cheating yourself out of a pure mind altering, life altering experience. Get your ass out there and see them. If you need a ride, call me and I'll pick you up and drive you to the show. Thanks to Matt, Brian, Mandy, Danni, and Tony for sharing the experience with me. I would not have wanted to share it with anyone else. Also an extra special thanks to Mandy and Matt for opening my eyes to something that I never thought was possible. 7/31/02-I'm forever changed.

Ok, that setlist in the first post was completely wrong. They did not play Third Eye. Here is the absolute setlist: sober the grudge stinkfist 46&2 schism parabol parabola the patient Aenema --(intermission) (cesaro summability)-- eon blue apocalypse disposition reflection triad w/ guest drummer lateralus I was talking to a kid who got to go backstage to help set up about 7 hours before the show, and he said that he saw the setlist for the evening and that "ticks?" was written on it. I wouldn't count on it, since it's such a strain on Maynard's voice, but you guys seeing the next few shows may get Ticks and Leeches. Good luck. Maynard's quotes included the "do something positive by having sex.." speech, and one that gave me the chills earlier in the show (i'm paraphrasing): "It's easy tp get caught up in the day to day events of our lives and forget why we do what we do. Thank you (to the crowd) for reminding us why we play music." To that big idiot motherfucker in the pit with the "Relax, it's only sex" shirt: You were at that concert to beat the shit out of people in the pit; I doubt you paid attention to a single note of the music. Instead of particpating in the beautiful experience that was going on around you, you tried to prove your masculinity to your friends by headbutting people for no reason. You ruined the show for the real fans. Save that stupid shit for a Mudvayne concert . People like you should not be allowed into Tool shows; art is obviously way over your head.

(before i begin, please forgive me for any spelling mistakes) I had journeyed to the filthest city on earth to see tool once more. I arrived too late to catch tomahawk and walked in as they were walking off stage. Tool came out ,said nothing as usual, and began. Maynard was in full black body paint with orange highlights. I was seated directly to Dannys left, for a truely spectacular show. My view of Maynard was obscured by Danny's kit, but i could still glimpse wailing hands and a few venturing dances. I would have to say, despite the city, this was the best show i've seen yet. The only older song played was sober and they stuck mostly to Lateralis. The crowd was very enthusiastic and Maynard said "Thank you for reminding us why we come to New Orleans." He nailed the scream in the grudge and never backed off once. Stinkfist, fortysix and two, and the reflection-triad jam were the highlights for me. Every song played was played perfectly and a few improvisations were added to the sudio versions(i thought these were very tastefull and could not keep a grin off my face). Overall the show was inspiring and drove my respect for tool harder into my conscience than anything before. After thier set, they had a group hug and Danny faced our side and gave a big two thumbs up. After the show (and this is where my new found hatred of N.O. comes from) i was carrying my girls purse in the quater, and was deftly robbed of two hundred fifty dollars of hers. She then got into the car a left me! When she came back, i had all ready got a hotel room. She came back to Fl. and i was stuck until Friday moring around 3 a.m. I'm sorry to bitch and moan, but i did miss the Pensicola show because of this unfortunate happening. We are still breathing and didn't go to jail, but both of us lost out on another show and were forced to spend unnessasary funds. So now i will patch things up with her as i pine for the fall tour. The show really was great!!!!

This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

Uh... to the guy who kept bragging about how his girlfriend got "Paul's" pick... there is no one in Tool named Paul.

This was this reviewer's 23 Tool show

I missed tomahawk, but the general concensis is that they rocked. Here is a setlist i can guarantee is 100% accurate as i was sitting down and had nothing better to do between songs than to write it down. Other setlists have minor errors, probrably due to bad memory or excessive drug use. This one is right. (there was strange, enya-like music playing up till the show started) Sober The Grudge Stinkfist Forty Six & 2 Schism Parabol Parabola Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Anema Strange Bassy feedback for like 5 minutes Dissposisition Reflection Adam Jones did some cool slowhand jam here Some rototom player (I guess hes tomahawks drummer) sets up his rototoms during this Rythmic jamming that goes into Triad Maynard wishes the crowd well and hopes they "go home and have sex" Lateralus THe higlights were probrably the bands energy on "Sober", THe mind blowing visuals of "Porabola", and The energy of "Anema". But i think the real treat that night was the jamming and "triad" that followed it. If they brought any of those tunes over the top, it was that one. Maynard James Keenan was wearing only what looked like a pair of Daisy-Duke style running shorts-but they might have been a speedo. i was also too far away to tell wether or not he was wearing body paint, but it was very possible that he was. None of this review is true. Ewige Blumenkraft P.S. The second review from the top on this page is what really happened.

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

The show kicked ass more than anything in the world has ever kicked ass. I dressed like a priest which got some cool responses. The setlist was incredible and the spiritual flow was incredible. I can't wait for another one. TOOL is inspiring and wonderful and they give me more inspiration than anything.

This was this reviewer's 1st? Tool show

First of all, its kind of sad to see all these people posting bullshit reviews. For the most part however, the playlists are correct, so I wont post that. I was tripping on shrooms this entire show and was very aware of all visuals. Maynard came out and said "Nawlins" and the crowd went insane, then he said "New Orleans?" as if asking us which do we like to be called more, and the crowd went totaly NUTS. Then he was like, "are you sure?" And we all agreed by giving a roar that was unlike anything i've ever heard. TooL opens up with Sober, and directly after that song, the back curtain somehow is transformed into a gigantic piece of Alex Grey artwork which was visually stunning, and beautiful. There were two video screens but they were set to the sides of the stage so you did not have to view them the entire time. Alex Grey was all over this show, his artwork is amazing. During Parabola there were the "grapes of wrath" that floated on air. One about Maynard, and one above Danny. There was red glitter also that seemed to fall onto the pit forever, and during lateralus there was a gigantic disco ball which would flash "black and white" colors, then "Red and Yellow" according to the song. This show was simply mind blowing. I doubt that I'll ever see a better show in my life.
