This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

This was the best show I've seen TOOL perform This is a stupendous tour and it seems they're picking up smaller venues... Thus the ambiance for an amazing show is set before you. Buy a ticket!

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

This was my first Tool show and all I can say is incredible. Tomahawk played about a 40min set. It was the first time I heard there stuff. I can see how some people wouldn't like them but I thought it was pretty good. Then on to Tool. I can't really put down in words the shear perfection i witnessed tonight. Between the music and the visuals, it was all fit together masterfully. These are the songs they played:(not all in order) Sober The Grudge 46 and 2 Stinkfist Schism Parabol Parabola Aenema Eon Blue Patient Disposition Reflection Triad (extended) Lateralus There set was a little over 2 hours long. If you get a chance to see them on this tour it will be well worth it.

the setlist above is correct except that I think stinkfist came before 46&2, but your memory is very good! damn, this was a nice evening. I had a seat at the highest row possible but in the center of the seatingchart. But it didn't matter anymore when Tool came on. I've only been to shows in Holland so this US show would be something different and ofcourse bigger (as Adam put it when I accidently ran in to him at the movies this weekend). The show was more intensive and louder I guess, and with more effects on stage itself. Like during The Patient there was this red light and lots of glitters. Big balls during Parabola. Plus the background changed now and then. During Triad John from Tomahawk (if I understood Maynard right) played with Danny and Mike Patton wearing a sort of head from a cat costuum (??? I was al the way in the back you know) used his effects thing and gave Maynard some flowers, which he held during Lateralus. Anyway, this was just my European kind of view, I 'm very happy that they came over here at my last day of my holiday here! Tool shows are always good, anytime, any place!

I CAN'T BELIVE I LET MAYNARD TALK ME INTO GOING TO ONE MORE SHOW! holy fuck wad, did they suck serious rhino COCK. First , danny couldn’t hold time if he was a frickin clock!!! Adam must have broke 3 strings on each song causing him to leave the stage time after time and leaving the crowd with no guitar to listen to! then, justin puked during the middle of sober ( which he was NOT ) and his bass electrocuted him and he was belly up the rest of the show making feedback! then maynard shoved the mic up his ass and shit it out while pointing at the crowd before every song!!!!! . I am going back to my pine box!!!

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. Hopefully all of you that have been to several shows can put up with this miserable soul who has just been to his first show. There are really no unique words to describe my experience. They've probably been repeated several hundred times here. However, if the fact that listening to the lines " I wanna see the clouds give way....mom please flush it all away..etc." and getting watery eyes gives you insight as to how I felt, well that's as best as can describe it. The only complaint I had was of the sound at this Arena and the setlist, which I feel should have included more from undertow.

Ok, this was my first concert ever. I am a very big fan of tool but i can honestly say i was disappointed. I really wanted to watch the guitarist play but all i could see was his back. I could see every other member of the group perfectly but him. That pissed me off. And i couldn't see any of the alex gray art. It was still a good show. They didnt play prison sex which pissed me off/ I know im sounding like a whiny bitch but i just didn't like my seats. Next time im getting floor.

I got there about half an hour before the show started, quite a long line outside anyway. After about 15 minutes I got in, found a good seat, and saw Tomahawk's set. I think it lasted about 45 minutes-1 hour, but they played all of the songs on their self-titled album but five (Sweet Smell of Success, Cul de Sac, Malocchio, Honeymoon, and Narcosis). Anyway, that was really great, with the entire band dressed up as policemen. Mike Patton kicking ass as always :) Then after the stage was set up and the roadies finished tuning all the equipment and testing the sound, it was time for the main act. First off, the setlist... Sober The Grudge (-) Ions Stinkfist Forty Six & 2 Schism Parabol Parabola Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient AEnema Intermission Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus To begin with, my main gripe with this show was that the setlist was nearly IDENTICAL to that of their show last year in South Florida. All they did was replace Pushit with Sober and Ticks & Leeches with Eon Blue Apocalypse/The Patient. I had read reviews of previous shows in this tour that included songs such as H. and Opiate, and I had been really looking forward to them. Unfortunately, such was not the case. Second, the new stage setup: Amazing. I love the new Alex Grey-inspired backgrounds and how well they communicate the visual aspect of Lateralus. During Stinkfist, a few colored cables lit up to look like the electric bolts seen in the music video. And when it was time for Parabol/Parabola, two of the zygote props were suspended in mid-air, while the music video played on the projection screens (which are also back). I especially liked the light show on Eon Blue Apocalypse (as well as the confetti during The Patient) and the pleasant surprises you get towards the end of the show. I'm pretty sure that the members of Tool are not very fond of Floridians, or have just had bad experiences during their shows down here. I'm not surprised, since I saw people throw various items of clothing at the stage several times (one shoe almost hit Danny's bass drum). Anyway, I had been hearing that Maynard reverted to his old boxers and body paint outfit for this tour. Yet when he came out, he was in the same black leather jacket and pants with a blue streak painted down the middle of his head. Also, he played the entire show WITH HIS BACK TO THE CROWD. At one point, he even sat down on his stand and sang. I know it's not an obligation of theirs to do otherwise, but like their last show here, the band has NO stage presence. I spent more time looking at the light show and the projection screen visuals than the actual stage. Everyone just looked so bored up there. Oh, and all you pompous idiots who go about babbling "It's the music stupid!" are all welcome to get cancer and die. Just like a band feeds off the crowd's energy, the crowd should receive back as well. However, they played the entire setlist very well, and added a couple of subtle new changes to their songs. I particularly enjoyed the delay between the first and second part of Schism, which I felt was more appropriate. The extended Stinkfist was back again, but this time there were no Elvis/White Light lyrics. Also, I did not notice anything different or new about the intro in Sober. Maybe it was because I spent my last show in general admission, and got caught up in the crowd's energy, but I found this time around more boring, despite the great new setup. I just wish they would play more from Opiate and Undertow. Maybe they've just become too pretentious for their own fans...

good show,, the crowd was very annoying though. why mosh to tool, i just dont get it, tool seemed very "bored", though the music was great, i get the sad feeling that this was a farewell tour ya know? just my thoughts,, i loved triad,, very interesting rhythms. Maynard kept his back turned the entire show,, guess he didnt want to see the crowd. Anyone who wanted floor seats just had to hop the barrier, we did, ended up about 10 feet from the stage. all in all a good show, wish i would have caught the aenema tour tho.

might be a little out of order... sober...with new long intro the grudge (-) ions forty 6 & 2 stinkfist-extended schism eon blue apocalypse the patient parabol parabola intermission aenema-the highlight for me disposition reflection triad-extended lateralis if anyone has pics/audio/video of the show pleeeeeeease email me. i thought the show was great. i liked it more than the previous one at NCR last year. but i guess that is because i am much much more familiar with all the songs. no H. or flood......but it was still great. we snuck onto the floor and moved pretty far up front. that was great. thats it. i got a new tool tour shirt. haha i wore my new get up kids shirt to a tool show. and a guy who wanted to buy my extra ticket that i advertised online actually saw me at the show...because i told him i would be wearing a get up kids shirt. haha. i would see tool again definitely. i don't know why maynard didnt get down to just speedos this show?!? the only show he didn't....he was in a black leather top and pants. with black painted "mohawk" on his head. goodnight.

i am a huge fan of tool, their music is the closest thing to a religion that i have. which is why this concert tonight was supposed to be incredibly important to me. and i was dissapointed. DISSAPOINTED in my favorite band, they being the only people i feel know the true essence of humanity and existance in general (let alone awesome music). they themselves did an all right job. the music sounded good. it really pissed me off that maynard wouldn't even look at us. accept it or not maynard, you are what the call a "rock star", and i and other tool fans look up to you incredibly. i went to the concert, paid forty dollars, and nearly got myself killed because i wanted to see YOU. you see, i am an incredibly small girl, and we were right in the front of the stage, maybe like two "rows" of people back, right in the center. i got pummelled by the intense and fucking ridiculous pushing that went on. every fucking part of my body is sore. i tried to hold on for dear life to my boyfriend but his hand was wrenched from mine sometime during "stinkfist". finally during "46 and 2", after numerous times of being knocked in the head, elbowed in the neck, and smothered by people's beefy arms to the point that i couldn't breathe, we all decided "fuck it this is not worth getting beaten up for if the band is just going to act like we aren't even here." well at that point my boyfriend had been completely lost in the crowd and so i spent all of schism, parabol and parabola frantically searching for him in this violent crowd. that sucked. i didn't enjoy that first half AT ALL. i mean what the fuck you bastards?! why the hell did you have to push to the point of where i couldn't enjoy myself at all i had to worry about fucking surviving? how is that fun??? after that i got myself a tool hoodie, we got some cokes, and went more to the back and enjoyed ourselves. yes, the visuals were pretty and amazing. yes, tool sounds very good live. but maynard seemed to be singing mechanically, as if he just wanted to get this over with. you don't understand, i worship this man's voice, i've heard what he has done with it live. i am just so dissapointed in their attitude. it may be "all about the music," but we're your fans, okay, so you don't have to yell "wave yo hands in da air!!" or hop around on stage like a madman. BUT AT LEAST FUCKING LOOK AT US. at least acknowledge that we are here, more than saying two sentences, and that we are your fans, that we love your music, that we feel everything you sing, everything you play and everything you mean to the fullest of our human capacities. and i do. i would still go see them again, in the hopes that they were just having an off night.

i think mr. Carey looked either tired or otherwise debilitated tonight. he played as well as ever, but he looked almost as though he was in pain at certain points. perhaps he was low on sleep from partying hard during the Florida break while mr. Chancellor was away. i was centered, with one friend between myself and the rail. which was nice, since i had the opportunity to exchange a few words with mr. Patton(i actually dont know whether i enjoy eating ass...maybe, but probably not). it should be mentioned that during triad, in addition to Tomahawk's drummer(name escapes me at the moment), mike patton came out and played a bit with mr. Jones's synth.he had a paper publix grocery bag over his head most of the time, which is apparently reminiscent of his Mr. Bungle shows(just for the record, i do enjoy most of Patton's work, and am a fan of the Tomahawk album).i quite enjoyed the visuals, though i could only see the edge of the projection screens and foremost Grey art as they were in-line with the rail. other than the pit being somewhat tighter than my last experience(which was at the sundome last year, a slightly larger venue), i think that this was a wholly positive evening.Oh, i was a bit curious as to who it may have been who carried a bouquet of flowers out to mr. Keenan mid-concert(i dont remember exactly when it was). Also, Keenan was playing not only the Steinberger guitar but a bass as well during various parts of the show. and his part was audible, unlike last year. rock out, guys. hope to see the gang 'round here again sometime soon.

I know that Sober is an awesome song, but it is my opinion that The Grudge is the best possible opener ever. For those of you who were lucky to see a show when they started with the Grudge, you know what I am talking about. Sober's awesome, dont get me wrong. But when they all walk out there, the crowd is going crazy. They are all nervous/terrified of what is to come, and then they start out with the first riffs of the Grudge, it is like nothing you can experience anywhere else. It is beyond all possible explanation. I would love to see them mix up the setlists and everything, but I think they should leave the Grudge up front and throw sober somewhere in the middle. But then again I'm not a professional musician nor do I have millions of fans. So I guess i'll leave the set-lists up to the band. Who's with me though? The Grudge as an opener is simply AMAZING.

oh, my...something also worth mentioning...Mr Carey messed about a bit withsomething which was obscured by amps during what was i think a sort of 'jam session' of tomahawk's. everyone cheered, but not until Patton pointed out his identity. oh well, i guess they were dazed by the idyllic deer.

Well, this show was somethin' alright. I was on the floor about 20ft back from Adam, so I had a pretty good vantage point. The stage was amazing... alot more interesting than the 2001 set. The crowd... well... when the lights went out and TOOL came on, it was insane. Not really your classic circle mosh, just full on crowd pressing. It got absurd - to the point of unenjoyment. But I just said to myself "fuck it" and instead of crying about it, I just let it be. Eventually I got knocked around to a mellower area... but that's "mellow" relative to the craziness going on elsewhere - so still pretty harsh. I just fed off the energy and let myself go... so I came out on top. Maynard man... He could've faced us atleast once... could've granted us that much. I mean, TOOL is my favorite band hands down - thier music means so much - but Maynard just stood there, back turned, the ENTIRE concert. The only time he faced us was when Mike Patton came out during TRIAD to play the synth (wearing a bag over his head) and gave Maynard flowers. Either way, I had a great time, and I thought this was awesome... I'm dissapointed in a sense that I know the show could've been a million times better with just a little bit of effort, but overall I'm glad I got to see this show.

This was this reviewer's 1st? Tool show

Well being my 1st Tool show, I was really excited to see them. I thought Tomahawk was good but not really my type of music. I thought Tool sounded great, but I wish their had been more energy and feedback with the crowd. Yes, the crushing pressure was intense down front. I was in about the 3rd row in the center and could only take it for the first half of the show. I am mad that I couldn't take it, but the oxygen I did have was being crushed from my body. I was disappointed that Maynard wouldn't face the crowd. I found this very strange and upsetting from some reason. I absolutely love their music and I thought it was amazing sounding. The set was great as well. But as someone else said, the screens were more exciting than the stage unfortunately. It would have been allot better if the band participated with the crowd as the crowd tried to participate with them. I have seen other shows were the band really fed off the crowd and vice versa (namely STP) where it bumps it all up to another level of enjoyment. But all in all I am glad that I went, I will never forget it.

Tool knows how to fucking put on a show. I have been to many concerts but none of them compared to this one. The visuals they had there were really awsome. Tomahawk was not very good. He even asked everyone to boo them before they continued on playing. The crowed there was pretty mellow. Everyone just wanting to have good time. That always the best. Here is the setlist(It may not be in the exact order but here are the songs): Ions Sober Stinkfist 46 & 2 Shcism ÆNIMA Parabol Parabola INtermission Disposition Reflection Lateralus I dont know why Maynard faced the wall the whole time. That mad me mad a little because i wanted to him. Oh well. Danny Carey is the man at drums!!!! Sorry to my friend Pillz that he could not make it. "You will get your Tool show one day" TOOL FOREVER

Hey - Maynard faced the back of the stage all night because of the number of blinding flashes from cameras that were popping off all over the venue. Every time one of those shitty little disposable camera flashes goes off (especially in the front 20 rows) it leaves you blind and seeing spots. Why don't you buy a camera and give it to the person next to you, turn out the lights and have them flash it in your face. I'm sure you will find it quite enjoyable. As long as I'm on this rant - to all you assholes that think it's cool to pelt the stage with shoes and other shit - knock it off. It's soooo cool to come and see a show and throw shit at the band and crew. That adds so much to the presentation. If you get really lucky and fuck up the band or gear badly, you can claim that you got the show stopped or the tour cancelled. I'd love to have the chance to whack you in the head with a shoe, or better yet a glass bottle when you're not looking. Save the throwing shit for your friends when you are drunk and showing each other your chocolate spiders. Flame away......

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

This was the second showing of TOOL for me. Let's just say first off that it was unforgettable. Like everyone else has said before me, the stage they had set up was awesome. There was so much to look at with the 2 huge screens on both sides, lighting affects, drop scrolls, and parabola balls, and great backdrops. I also will coment on the fact that TOOL themselves were pretty dead on stage. The fact that Maynard wouldn't look at us once or even say anything was revolting. The first time i saw them was at an Ozzfest. At least Maynard moved around then, doing his stripping and even getting into the position where he looks like he's blowing himself. But i will have to say that the crowd compensated for the lack of stage enthusiasm. I was about 4 rows back almost center. It was absolutly crazy for a TOOL concert. The sound quality was great also, but you can't really complain when you're that close to the stage. This was deffinetly not my last TOOL concert. Just hearing them live gives you such a high.

Tool was great as always. Although the band didn't seem as into it this time around as they did the previous time I saw them (USF Sundome, Tampa last tour). I attribute this to the vibe from the crowd which seemed to have a higher percentage of drunk rednecks than the last show. Also this was my first time on the floor @ Tool, and although I was closer to the band I had to devote much more attention to not getting my ass kicked... and maybe that's why the experience seemed different for me. I would have liked to see a more varied setlist...but the songs they played were played well, and Maynard's vocals were beautiful. Well worth the bruises and ringing ears...Tool are truly artists.

This was this reviewer's 1st? Tool show

Tool Concert - August 4th, 2002. Teco Arena, Estero, Florida All i can say was.. this was a ****ing amazing show. My brother and I got there at around 6:30, an hour prior to the show, and what a huge line... so we got in, and waited.. we got in around 7:15, and got so close to the front.. so close.. Tomahawk played.. they were kinda weird. I didn't like em too muc, but i do give Mike Patton credit. He has some talent with his voice.. a lot of talent.. but still, i didn't like it.. Danny Carey did come out to help with some sound effects though, and that was cool.. i knew it was him right when he came out.. and then Mike said somethin' like "Give it up for Mr. Danny Carey". the crowd was actually nice to them, unlike i've read in some other shows where people have literally booed them off stage.anyways.. Tool starts.. i am like 3 freet away from the front.. and i hafta take a piss.. this was like 10 minutes after tomahawk ended, so i was afraid i was gonna miss the beginning.. i took my chance, better to miss first minute than to piss my pants during the show. got back just in time, with 10 minutes still left to spare. I found my way back to the front, so i could get a great view of Danny's New Set. =-o.. it was so beautiful.. better than the pictures.. it was made of some old paiste cymbals he had melted down.. here's a pic http://paiste.com/artists/carey_d_assets/front1.jpg looks much better in person. so its 8:45, lights turn off, there's a long intro.. Maynard comes out wearing a big black or dark blue outift, and has a black strip down his face.. and they start Sober - I knew they were gonna open with this song, but those first guitar notes gave me chills.. The Grudge - oh man, this ruled.. Danny Carey is so awesome.. watching him move around the set so effortlessly. anyways, I sang along to this song, even though i didn't know the lyrics to all of it.. i still did.. and Maynard nailed that 20 second scream on the spot.. so awesome. and when danny goes crazy at the end.. aah (-) Ions Stinkfist (With extended middle) - This song is so fun, and i song a long to all of it.. even though i didn't know all of it. It was so funny when they started their little jam session thingy and we all jumped up saying "I'll!" thinkng it was that part of the song.. apparently not. but then it came, and we jumped up and went crazy. 46 & 2 - They played 46 & 2!! aaah! i was doubting this song, but they played it! my eyes were on danny the whole freaking time.. espescially, during the Drum break.. watching him nail that was a dream, and now it came true.. it was perfect. and it looked like he wasnt even trying. This song was the first highlight of my day. Schism - My least favorite song that they played.. i wasn't really into it as much, so it was a time for me to catch my breath. I was sweating like a .. i dunno, but it was crazy.... i had my eyes on carey the whole time.. still good performance Parabol :) /Parabola - I'm so glad they played parabol, evenn though its nothing special.. and then they kicked into Parabola, which was so awesome.. they had 2 big balls behind the stage looked like a buncha atoms.. it was a buncha small balls together to make a big one.. and 2 of em.. great touch to the show, and to adams awesome Visuals they had on screen. Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient - :).. I love this song.. such a soft mellow song with its heavy parts.. the beginning riff gave me chills. and i caught some of the red confetti flying above us.. and hearing maynard sing the last four "Wait it out" was so awesome. Never thought I'd hear it live. Aenema! - They played Aenema.. 2nd highlight of the day. The crowd went crazy.. the floor was moving all over the place, and it felt so damn good.. i sang along to every single damn word, and i can still feel it.. amazing! Intermission.. ah, some relazing time.. i just stood there and watched the very cool visuals on screen Disposition - Such a great song. Not a song someone would mosh or really move too, so none did.. During the song, some banners with some Alex Grey art fell down from it.. and in the backdrop of the stage, there was huge star with a bunch of eyes.. it looked awesome. Great visuals on the screen during the song too Reflection - 3rd highlight. This is, I think, my favorite track off Lateralus. This song gets me into like a freakin trance, and some stupid people tried to mosh to it.. and that girl in front of me kept dancing.. stupid girl. but great song. Triad - I'm not sure who the 2nd drumer was, but i don't care. Cuz danny tore him to peices. This was Danny's 2nd big moment, besides the drum break in 46&2, and he was amazing during this. He played it flawlessly.. and that same girl got lifted up on two guys shoulders and i couldnt see.. whats wrong w/ you people? so i had to move, and i saw. it was amazing. Maynard now said "thank you a million times. "thank you for haring this moment with us. we'll see you again soon"... Lateralus - What a great way to finish the show. They played with so much energy. I sang along to the final "Spiral Out! Keep Going!" and i think thats where i lost most of my voice. The band threw out water bottles, drum sticks, and drum heads. damn, i didnt get anything. so close to the water bottle though. Tool, thank you for an amazing show. You guys rule, and we'll see you again next time. Anyone w/ pics or videos, please EMAIL me..

This was the most beautiful artistic experience I have ever had in my life. Visually, spiritually, musically, and intellectually, Tool created an experience that should recieve praise and gratitude from all in attendance. I can't believe that anyone would complain about this show. Obviously, a large percentage of Tool's fanbase is ignorant of the pure intent and light that Tool meticulously creates for each one of us. They teach us to NOT have expectations, to lose attachment, to be open to all so that we may truly experience the wonders of life. So, you are pissed because Maynard never faced us. Get over it. Read the lyrics to The Grudge and then Ticks and Leeches. Learn something from the very people you are critiqueing. Maynard was on stage, What importance is there in seeing his face? I was content in seeing him move his body and found the dynamic very interesting. did your mommy not look at you when you were a baby? please... next time, try closing your eyes, and becoming one with the music, I'm sure this is what maynard was doing. The stage, videos, and lights were absolutely stunning. Alex Grey did a wonderful job helping design the set. He had many of his pieces from Transfigurations displayed. Specifically, the ones of the full body anatomy. There were six of these. Bones, organs, veins, skin, nerves, lymph(i think), and finally the one of the body's enerygy. This was all layered over the full stage backdrop of the golden- spiralled eye tunnel, similar to the one seen in his piece, Death. The video screens showed a wide variety of different computer animations and videos of figures similar to the 2001 tour. Most of the animations were either of computer generated faces or bodies going in and out with spirals and eyes swirling around. The other animations were sacred geometry of 7-point stars, the flower of life, 5-point stars, etc. I'm not going into this with enough detail, but you must experience it for yourself. At some points in the show i fell into an altered state of conciousness completely sober. They have that power to me. The crowd was alive and there. We were loud and strong. I was very dissapointed in how beligerant and rude many of the fans were. They seem to be pissed of at the world, even with the people that share the same musical taste as them. I was on the floor to the right of the sound board and several times got pushed without any communication as to why i was being moved. It bothers me to think that people willingly negatively affect somebody else's experience without any thought or concern for anybody outside themselves. Unfortunately Tool concerts, for many people, are just another excuse to get fucked up and immaturely show their dominance over other humans. Lastly and most importantly, the Music. First, i was surprised that they played for so long. I kept on thinking they were going to end the show, but they kept on going. Second, they played Schism, The Grudge, Reflection, The Patient, and Lateralus, which to me was a true blessing. The sound in the arena was less than perfect, but what can you expect from a hockey rink? There were several drawn-out ambient and trippy intros which gave the band a little rest for their ruthless set. Overall, i am without words. We should all be thankfull that these four men came to existence and are enriching our lives. Spiral out, daniel

i realize my review was probably way harsh on tool, i wrote it when i first got home and i was tired and cranky. ;) but it really was good, and tool is still the most amazing band there is. i still can't agree though with maynard not turning to face us. trust me i have read the lyrics to their songs many times. yeah, i was still happy, even to see his back. but part of a concert is the band's interaction with their crowd, and they almost had none. but i realize that this may due to assholes who throw shit at them all the time, which pisses me off a million more times than tool's attitude. fucking grow up guys, and go there to feel something, not to get high and/or drunk and act like a bunch of retards. if your little suburban minds can't take what tool is feeding you, then don't fucking go and let the true fans enjoy themselves.

Man I'm tired this morning. My secons Tool show, the first being last year at NCRC (someone mentioned above) and this time I knew the material better (Im new to Tool, bout a year now, and they are far and away my favorite band, remind me of everything I love about bands like Floyd, Rush or Zep, just wonderful stuff). Anyway, they sounded great, much better stage visuals this time around, the group I brought with me loved it (I converted a deadhead, heheh) and I will absolutely definitely make a point to catch them whenever possible. I just wish I could shoot over to Daytona tonight but I simply cannot. Bummer. I too experienced a wave of misty-eyed emotion at times (like now writing this and recalling) and am eternally glad for the experience. Thanks guys!

What the hell is up with Maynard keeping his back to the audience the entire time?? arrogance or spite? i like the cross dressing Maynard of old... better yet, the intense, back bent mohawk wearing man he used to be. turn around man. ...bryan

I for one am disappointed in last nights show... I know that some will say that you don't have to see them or w/e cuz its all about the music.. But I agree with all the other people that have posted on here so far sayin that all of us look up to maynard and all that and that he could have turned around. I dont think that he realises that little things like that can ruin the show for people.. at least it did for me.. Just by him having his back turned to us the entire show made it seem like he didnt give a shit about us being there and that all he was worried about was gettin finished with the show and getting out of there. Also, why is it that our show is the only one so far that he comes out wearing the leather outfit instead of his body paint... At all the other shows he was dancing and doin all the MAYNARD-LIKE things... Last night he stood there.. At one point he dropped to his knees which was pretty cool. All I can say is that I'm really disappointed.. I loved the show and everytihng and I'm glad that I went but I just left there feeling kinda shitty... I think lots of people would agree with me...Adam was his usual self... Justin was rockin out which was really cool to see.. and Danny was being his normal bad-ass self behind that sweet new drum kit... Hopefully Maynard is not losing interest. He didn't even bother giving the positive speech or ne thing like that... Ne way... w/e

Blah. I am very upset at all the foolish kids at the Ft. Myers show. Whoever is lame enough to throw shoes on stage obviously is not much of a fan, and the show would be so much better if your useless, lame ass did not show up. Also, screaming obscene, nonsensical things is about as childish as you can get. As for the show, as everyone posted already, it was great. Tomahawk, a great band, was not the best they could have been live, but Mike looked very good in a police uniform, so they are excused. I do wish the Melvins had been touring with Tool still, damn. Tool hung around in the background, which is alright. I brought binoculars and got close ups of their faces and instruments, and I could see fine. I hope that next time, the smelly, stupid teenagers who were behaving like... smelly, stupid teenagers will spare their parents from lending out $35, stay home and watch Full House reruns. I was a bit confused, I thought Danny had a new electric drum set, but only a few peices were electric, it looked like. Well then, a big thumbs up to Tool and Tomahawk. I hope our embarassing Florida kids didn't scare them away for good.

What a journey this evening in west florida this was! Drove 2 hrs to the show, booked our hotel, drank a few cold beers, and we still hadn't taken our first step in this venture we were about to embark upon. Arrived at Teco Arena 2 hrs before the show. I always enjoy tailgating if you will, with other tool fans. That is one of the things that many don't realize, just that sense of community us tool fans have. Of course there are the people who are just going to the show, merely just to see a rock concert. This isn't just a rock show, it's much more, and if you belittle it to those measures, of course you'll be dissappointed. As the line started to form, and the moment came closer, I began to just let my mind go. Just kind of looking at the sky, and meditating in a sense I guess. It's not very often my mind is cleared from life and such, and I just sat and appreciated that feeling for a few minutes. Funny thing is, I still have that feeling... People complained about the crowd being a bunch of idiots, but I disagree. I'm sure there were some retards in attendance, but you have to just ignore it. I actually met some very cool people on this night. People that shared the passion I have, and what good is something beautiful, unless you have somebody to share it with. I guess that's why TOOL continues to do what they do. I walked in the middle of TOMOHAWK's set, and I was actually impressed. Dissappointed as well, that I didn't see the whole performance. I've been reading reviews, and it seems they haven't been accepted very well, and I just don't understand why. I thought the music was amazingly creative, innovative, and entertaining as well. It made me feel something, and I don't think they could have chosen a better opening act. The crowd seemed to accept them pretty well, I thought. I will be purchasing the album in a few days if I can find it. Danny came out for a song, and played on some electronic concoction. Don't know what the fuck he was doing, but I bet it was cool. After their set, the anticipation began to set in. There is no better feeling than this. The lights went out, my heart stopped, then steadily made it's way up to near cardiac arrest. The signiature opening visual came up, and as I expected the first licks of Sober were upon us. A perfect opener I thought, it just kind of reminded me of the first time I ever heard TOOL, and just that weird feeling it gave me. As always, I couldn't focus on the band and what they were doing, simply because my eyes were either closed or looking upwards. The music then took a hold of me, and I was on my way. There are so many experiences I've connected this song too, and each and everyone of them flashed through my head, and it was just an amazing feeling. Then came the thundering rhythms of THE GRUDGE. Now my body began to move, without my consent. I hope I didn't bother those sitting behind me, don't blame me, blame the music. I looked at the friend I was with, and we our jaws were dropped, and our heads were nodding in ultimate approval. Just the chemistry these guys have is so perfect. I swear, and I hope, they feel their own music just as I and many others do. Thinking it couldn't get to a higher peak, I was wrong. Next came the perfect combo of STINKFIST(extended-no white lines though) and FORTY-SIX AND TWO. Wow. Just the raw tenacity of those two songs has always just sent an energy through me. I've always thought of those two songs as one I guess, in subject matter anyway. Stinkfist being the realization, and 46... being the solution. Just absolutely beautiful to say the least. I believe Schism was next. Jesus. To see this song performed live, and to hear it on the radio are two completely different experiences. Such a beautiful(sorry it's the only word that works) song. Just the truth that's in that song, cannot be argued with by anybody. I actually opened my eyes for this song and got lost in the visuals. The little things feeding off of eachother were a perfect touch, and my imagination kind of went along with that, and just thought to myself what if, just what if, it could be that way. Also, it appeared that Maynard was in some sort of meditative position, or he was just sitting down. Then came Aenema. The arena erupted in movement, and it seemed as if the audience was one. Seemed Maynard started to get the pistons going, and the way he moved to the music, was simply great. People complain about the fact he's not as animated, but I disagree, and really wouldn't care either if he sang from the damn pressbox. As I said earlier, if you want a "fucking" rock concert, you're in the wrong place. Too see everybody's hands and heads lifted to the sky during "I'm praying for rain..." was incredible. Then came my favorite song(s). DISPOSITION, REFLECTION, TRIAD, I feel is there greatest piece of work to date, their pinnacle as artists. Just the epic feel it has, and just the feeling it gives me is not within words, beautiful doesn't even do it justice. This is when I hit my emotional peak, and my mind had left my body, and God knows where my soul went. Just the feeling of empathy within these songs. Drummer for Tomohawk played the roto's during Triad, and Mike came out and played on the mysterious keyboard Adam has to his right. Mike aslo gave Maynard a bouquet of flowers, which I thought was pretty funny. Then of course, came Lateralus, and Maynard sported the flowers the whole time. Just funny shit. Great song, so uplifting. After the show, when the lights came on, I had to just sit down and gather myself. What an experience. It'll be with me for the next few days for sure, if not longer. Best show I've seen them play. Sure, Maynard didn't face the crowd the entire time, which isn't much of a suprise. Over the years you'd think people would pick up on his perverse sense of humor. I don't really care anyway, he played his instrument perfectly. Danny continued to prove he is a master of percussion. Thankyou TOOL.

What is wrong with you motherfuckers? Tomahawk was fucking tight. Ft. Myers fans sucked ass, that's why Maynard wouldn't look at or speak to you. Nothing wrong with getting into their shit, but pushing and kicking other people's asses only fucks up their experience. Fuck you black-wearin' Manson freaks and especially the two sweaty giants that pushed their way to the very front. Unfortunately if you're in it for the art/ performance; seats are the best way to go. But just fucking go. This show shouldn't be put into words.

I thoroughly enjoyed tool as anybody would, it is one of the few things that true music fans need to do, tool are the perfectionists of live performance. Maynard does not need to look at me or the crowd for me to feel like i got my $40 worrth, I can honestly say that I actually got my $40 worth just watching maynard, adam, and justin huddle around danny's drums for lateralus....I dont know why but it just seemed right. What did not seem right at all was the many belligerent assholes who were looking to start a pit for every song, they hardly even looked at the stage, instead they circled like idiots waiting to mosh. It was very disheartining to see people get violent at a tool show. It also ruined many moments where i was really getting into the songs and completly feeling the music and the moment, and then one of the shirtless idiots moshing crashes into me..... it really ruined the moment and almost every song....I dont like having to watch the pit to make sure i dont get clocked in the head. I would rather spend my time watching the band and taking it it. If its violence you shirtless idiots crave, then go play in traffic or go take boxing lessons....spend that aggression elsewhere not at a tool show Tisha im catching up to you as far as how many concerts ive seen.... Overall it was another great experience from a great band, i just was very disappointed in the crowd this year.

. I JUST WISH MJK WOULD GO AHEAD AND ACCEPT THE FACT HE IS A ROCK STAR. IF YOU ARE THE LEAD SINGER OF A MULTI PLATINUM HARD ROCK BAND THAT MAKES VIDEOS AND PLAYS CONCERTS ,YOU ARE A ROCK STAR. YOU DON'T HAVE TO CARRY ON LIKE MICK JAGGER BUT TO PLAY AN ENTIRE SHOW WITH YOUR BACK TO A (TOOL STARVED) AUDIENCE BLOWS MY MIND. II DOES NOT HAVE TO BE TTHE MAYNARD SHOW (LIKE CROSS DRESSING OR STUFFING YOUSELF IN A DUFFLE BAG OR DRESSING UP LIKE A TELEVANGILIST ETC ETC) BUT NOT EVEN TO GLANCE OUT AT THE CROWD...WOW. TOOL IS THE BEST BAND OF THIS ERA, THIER SKILL IS UNEQUALED, BUT I CAN'T FATHOM THIS SHOW. DON'T TELL ME IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC BECAUSE IF IT WERE THERE WOULD BE NO MIRROR BALL OR LIGHTS OR FOG OR ARTWORK. THIS IS NOT A.P.C. WHY ACT LIKE IT? Definitely worth the drive to Ft. Myers. There were a few little changes to Sober which i thought were great, (mainly thinking of this subtle triplet that Danny added in during the second verse). along with the extended version of Stinkfist. The Grudge was bad-ass as usual, and having Forty-six & 2 and AEnema in the same set complimented their previous set-list at the TD Waterhouse perfectly. The Disposition/Reflection duo is pure class, and a real poignant touch to the over-all experience. Then there's Triad...too amazing for words, and lateralus? Can you think of a better ending song? Didn't think so. If only they could have thrown Intolerance in there somewhere...bah, wishful thinking Are you a bassist looking for a band in the Orlando area, who is around the age of 17? e-mail me: VEXus86@hotmail.com

Man! All I have to say is "WOW"! This concert turned out to be way better than I had expected. Let me explain: When I initially went to order my ticket off the internet, I found that the only seats left were in section 120, which happened to be right next to the stage! I feverishly weighed my options; Option 1 : Spend $40, drive 2 hours from Ft Laud, to sit in shitty seats where I can't see anything, or Option 2: Just say "fuck it!" because it's TOMAHAWK & TOOL, and take the chance! Well, luckily for me, I chose Option 2. And out of all my supposed "TOOL Loving" friends that were going to go, it ended up just being my friend Brett, his girlfriend, and I. Oh, how those "friends" missed out! We arrived at the TECO Arena at around 6:30. My first thought was, "Man! I've never seen this many shitheads in one place!" (What do you expect from Ft Myers anyway?) Oooh yeah! If you didn't know you were at a TOOL concert, you would think it was a fucking white trash convention! Or perhaps a wrestling event! Any how, the line was unbelievably LONG! We finally got in around 7:15, and went to check out our seats. As luck would have it, these "shitty" seats turned out to be the absolute, greatest fucking seats I've ever had at a concert! I was only about 30ft from the stage, and could see everything clearly! TOMAHAWK came out around 7:30 and played an incredible set! I can't remember everything they played, but I do recall: (In no particular order) 101 North Point & Click Flashback Laredo Jockstrap God Hates A Coward Sir, Yes Sir Pop 1 Ah, yes indeed, all those Tomahawk classics you know and love, became manifested before my bewildered eyes! Patton and Co. unloaded an all out audio assault that was reminiscent of the numerous Mr. Bungle shows I've seen in the past! Completely made up for Fantomas last year at the NCRC! (Hey! I love Fantomas, ok? But their set last year was sloppy & horrid!) Tomahawk just fucking, balls out ROCKED! I expected the audience to be pretty negative based on the reviews I've read here from previous shows! But, they actually received Tomahawk with open praise, which was nice to see! The band seemed to be quite pleased with the audience's appraisal of their performance, as well. TOMAHAWK ended their set at around 8:15, and I waited patiently for TOOL's predictably, drawn out, 10 minute intro. They emerged at around 9 and from the "oh so recognizable" intro to "sober", to the final pounding finale of "Lateralus", TOOL grabbed Ft. Myers by the balls, and never let go! Like I mentioned earlier, the seat I had was THE BEST FUCKING SEAT EVER! Plus, the crazy couple sitting next to me, (tripping their balls off!) kept smoking me out continously, throughout the entire show! (Thanks crazy dude!) Before this show, I thought last years performance at the NCRC was great ! But after witnessing what I did last night, that show actually sucked ass in comparison! One of the best things about this show was the fact that Maynard wasn't facing the direct audience! Awwwww! Poor babies! I was looking dead at him all night because he only faced the audience sitting directly to the side of the stage! (Like me!!!!) And the little stage Maynard was standing on, was fucking awesome! Everything was awesome! Watching all those morons in the pit killing each other, while I was chilling was AWESOME! I haven't included the setlist because you likely know it already! However I will say the standout, (IMHO) was definately TRIAD. Danny started out with this insane drum solo! Then John Stainer, (the drummer from Tomahawk) came out and started jamming on drums in unison, with Danny! (And let me just add that Stainer fucking kicked ass!) As the song started to kick in, a mysterious figure emerged from the shadows wearing a yellow shirt, crazy looking pajama pants, and a bag over his head. He presented Maynard with a bouquet of flowers, then made his way to the keyboard next to Adam. Even Maynard picked up a guitar, and together they launched into one juggernaut of a performance! Personally, the BEST moment of the night ! After the song was over Adam Jones remover the bag from the mystery man to reveal none other then.......................MIKE PATTON! (Which of course I knew all along!) Just seeing a few of my icons together on stage with so much energy was beyond words! It was definately the surprise of the night! No one was moshing! People just stared in amazement. After the show, I bid farewell to the crazy ass people sitting next to me, and made my outside. As we drove home I could only keep thinking how fortunate the homely-ass citizens of Ft. Myers had been blessed. I'm sure many of them didn't fully appreciate what they had just seen. I mean I saw people that must have heard Limp Bizkit was playing! Decked out with their gold chains, and ECKO shirts! Ahhhhh, Ft Myers, you really made me proud that I'm from Ft. Lauderdale! (I couldn't away from your shithole of city fast enough!) Lastly, TOOL & TOMAHAWK, words cannot express the gratitude I have! Thank you for the excellent, cerebral experience. ~Snafu714 aka The Secret Chief

mucsically it was a great concert, thought the setlist dissapointed me, witht any songs from opiate a no show, and undertoe was missing as well (cept for sober). The visuals were amazing, but the band presence was non existant, maynards back to the crowd got a few rednecks (aldready drunk and disordly) a bit pissed off. This, in fact, was great for me cause starting pits next to u, allowes you to move up 2 or 3 rows, which put me centerstage front!!!. any tool concert from this cloes will be an eperience, this one especially. maynards vocals were usual, but i wish he would have,... MOVED. BUt he did play guitar on a few songs, AND adam made a pretty sweet solo during patient i do believe (but i was smokin at that time, so my time recolection is messed up). eiter or the show once again was utterly mindblowing. and p.s. the flordia crowd sucks, and id like to formaly laugh at thoose who boo'd tomahawk, i guess there sarcasism was abouve all the idots whoose brains were fried from that "rick flordia sun(trademark)" oh yeah and fuck u whoever wrestled that danny carey drumstick from my grip once i was on the ground trampled. i hope u die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great show in Ft. Myers..I caught Tomahawk, loved it!! Very happy I experienced the opening act. I enjoy Mike Van Patton and his bands creativity, he really works his ass off out there and deserves to be well received. Tool then took the stage at around ten to 9..Alot of good energy, my complaint was the crowd was a little too involved in trying to get noticed and acting a bit disorderly, thankfully I had seats..Maynards voice was very clear and I think the 2 days off really showed, powerful..Danny Careys new set is amazing..The sound is more crisp clear and true, eliminating any echos that conventional drumsets tend to give off..Alot of great new visuals were also on display..If you want to stare at the band, buy a fucking poster..It's entertainment not a gawk-fest..I would like to thank Tomahawk and Tool for putting together an amazing show and appreciated them visiting South Florida and again allowing me to experience their work, thank you

to all the fuck-heads crowd-surfing and moshing – fuck all of you. if you want to do that retarded shit go to a fucking “limp dicknut” show. to the guy who i punched in the ass as hard as i could when you went crown surfing over me, i was aiming for your fucking nuts cuz you kicked me in the head the first time you went by. to the guy who got dropped on his head while crowd-surfing at the beginning of the show and had to be carried out cuz he was unconscious , hope you enjoyed the show, asshole (he hit the ground head-first so hard I heard it over the music!) to all the great fans that were so cool and stood with me and enjoyed a tremendous performance by the greatest rock band ever – thank you. to maynard, adam, danny and justin – words cannot express my gratitude to you. the tears in my eyes during disposition said more that words ever could. two more things – 1) my girlfriend got back stage during the show (cuz she is really hot – i love you felicia!) , and the crew (who were wearing n’sync shirts!) told her the reason maynard wouldn’t turn around was because he had taken a massive dose of liquid acid and was tripping too hard to face the crowd. whether that is true or not, who knows, but that would explain why he fucked up the lyrics to aenema ( am I the only one who noticed – it was at the “fuck l.ron hubbard…” part?) 2) someone in a previous post said danny was playing with something that you couldn’t see cuz it was kind of to the side – it is a roland mc-505 drum machine/synth and a roland v-drum module. You can see them in the picture of his kit on his web site http://www.dannycarey.org/ peace and god bless

I had the opportunity to see Tool twice during the last leg of the Lateralus tour. After those two experiences it showed me how two shows back to back can be completely different, and how different Tools shows are from any others. Last year, in Orlando, I found I had experienced the most uplifting concert/experience of my life. I'd never felt a high like that before, and it wouldnt dim, it wouldnt fade away. It was so different than the Tampa show I had experienced the night before. At that point I thought about what made the Tampa show less impactful. I thought about what I could do for myself to make it a more intense experience. So..I got to prioritize. The crowd sucked in Tampa last year and the crowd sucked in Ft. Myers this year. I was front and center, just like I was in Tampa, and like I was in Orlando. In Orlando I had left the front about a minute into Sober because the crowd was subtracting from the experience and I didnt think that was neccessary to endure. I took the crowd of my equation in Orlando and it was the most incredible experience. So...a few songs into the show at Ft. Myers I did the same thing, I requested to be pulled out. I can take front row, I can take the pressure and I can handle crowd surfers, but why would I want to? So I can see the band closer inbetween having my head kicked and my ribs crushed? I thought that taking the negative impact of the crowd out would again make it more uplifting an experience. However, I have found the crowd can only be taken out of MY equation, the band still has to contend with them, or..not. Someone somewhere, I don't remember, referred to Tool as psychic vampires, feeding off of our energies. How could we have expected Tool to reflect positivity when we were'nt as a whole a positive crowd? Anyways, back to the show... Tomahawk : I had seen them two nights before at a small club in Orlando called The Social. Tiny venue. I loved it. Great show, great sound, great energy, great crowd. And no Patton Haters. It pissed me off so much at the show to hear "Throw us the deer", "Get off the stage", "You fuckin suck". I mean...its Mike Patton, and he has one of the most versatile voices I've ever heard. The band sounded better at the Social though, they had the vocals, the treble in particluar I think, up too loud and it was absolutely ear piercing at times, painful almost. Tool : Sober, and from the get-go the crowd was insane, moshing and pushing forward with no disregard for fellow concert goers. The pressure I could have almost dealt with, though it would have infringed on my moving, and I like to move with the music, but I cannot tolerate crowd surfers and moshers at a Tool show, I'll take the soundboard (and did) before I deal with that shit. After having to pull a crowdsurfer off my head and having to deal with the security guy's hovering over in alarm frequently, I requested that they pull me out. I moved to a decent position near the sound board and found I could see alright and move too. Something wasn't there though, some magical something that made the Orlando experience sensational was missing , and I think it was reflected positivity from the Band, that being the fault of a horrible crowd. It seemed there were more people interested in seeing the band and moshing and getting drunk than people interested in seeing one of the most technically and aesthetically appeasing shows one can witness. The band sounded great, right on, and yeah Maynard faced the wall the entire show. I wouldnt have wanted to look at us either. Its kind of a "We came here to impart a positive experience, you came here to see our faces and get drunk" kinda think. It fit. Even taking a look at the reviews here, the most common complaint is that they didnt do the rock star thing and show their faces to everyone. I think that the band uses the opener kinda as a test of what the pace of the show will be like. A tasting of the crowd if you will, and we were anything but sweet. Maynard did say a few things though "Thankyou for your support" which kinda feels like a nice way of saying, "Thanks for the cash", which was the appropriate thing to say to this crowd. "Thankyou for sharing this with us, we'll see you again soon" This is a positive note considering the dates for the mini tour later this year arent up yet. At any rate, just to see how different shows can be? All you Ft. Myers people out there? Check out the Daytona show reviews, I dont even have to read them yet to tell you they will speak volumes in regards to the difference between the shows. Maynard even made fun of the Ft. Myers crowd at the beginning of the show, and the Daytona crowd responded in kind. Rock on...and Keep going...

This was this reviewer's 5th Tool show

Hey all! so some of you my remember my european adventures with tool:getting thrown out of a show being held 4000 miles from my home for nothing worse than trying to get a tape of them for everyone. Well, it is now 3 months later, and apparently they either hav forgotten about me, or simply dont care about tapers in the u.s. because sunday nights tool show was a JOKE security wise. A slight patdown on the way in, nothing too intensive. And i had the core sounds (smaller mics than my schoeps, easier to conceal) and my d8 down my pants, not to mention my bowl. And they didnt see ANYTHING! So me and my friends get inside, the floor is a g.a. thing goin on, the line to get in was so long that we didnt get in until they had already dropped the lights, so i didnt get to tape tomahawk. I was totally ready for them to sorta suck, because everyone on toolshed has been writitng reviews about how mike patton sucks, and tomahawk sucks, ect. But i thought thay were actually GOOD! Patton is really a genius, no matter what you fuckers think! And tomahawk is an actual band, unlike fantomas, which is a bunch of wierd noise (sorry mike!) Anywy, i was kinda bummed i didnt get to tape them (yes toaster, i still owe you the melvins dat from last year!) and we got set up in about 20th row on the floor. So heres my actual review: tool, teco arena, ft myers florida, 8/4/02 SOBER....i heard they were opening with this. Pretty sellout move, if you ask me. My friends said they just wanted to get it out o the way first, i think they ar playing to all the teenyboppers on this one. Instantly during this one, a huge mosh pit opened up next to me. Great! what a bunch of idiots. This is truly why les isnt in primus right now, i am convinced. Bullshit! And the sound was as loud as i have ever heard....the levels went thru the freakin roof when danny carey hit th first bass drum beat on this one. THE GRUDGE...this is probably the song on lateralus that sounds most like their older stuff and fits right in. The long scream by maynard seemed to last not as long as usual, but otherwise it sounded good! (-)IONS...they had thes little electric bolts in the lighting system that were supposed to look cool, but i thought they were kinda cheesy.... STINKFIST....at least they played THIS! No white lines/suspicious minds teases this year. But still they did the extension so as to throw off all the kids who start singing "i'll...keep...digging......" part early. Sounds funny on the tape! Probably one of the highlights. Also noticed different video effects during this one. Finally! 46+2....i had heard they did H. instead of this in pensacola florida, the prevoius show. But this part of the set is apparently the ONLY part that may change on a daily basis..everything else is the SAME, start to finish! I was REALLY glad to see this, and i guess its cool they are playing it more than last year, but inmean, come on guys, change the set more than ONE song a night!!!!! Geez! then the big album push....for the rest of the show they only played ONE SONG off of pre-lateralus stuff...ouch! Basically after the first 30 minutes, they stop playing anything old and start playing the new record (16 months old, i should say!).... SCHISM.....played ok, but maynards voice was not as upfront as i have heard it in the past on this one. It had a slightly different intro at the beginning, but otherwise sounded the same as it always does. PARABOL>PARABOLA.....i was glad they did parabol, they skipped it in europe in may and just went right into parabola. but i think the lead in of parabol is important. Especially to calm down the moron mosher fucks!! AEON BLUE APOCALYPSE>THE PATIENT.....i do like this song, i just wish they would break up allthe new material with some OLD stuff! I liked this, untill the mosh pit opened up bext to me again during the patient (!!??!!) AENIMA.....always love this, except this night, all th moshers went freakin insane, i got pushed pretty good, was trying to not let the mics or the dat get crushed by some numbfuck, i swear maynard is talking about tool fans when he says he wasnts to "flush you all away"..i was ready to as well! Dumbfounded dipshits!!!!!!! with that, they take an intermission before coming back to cose with 4 new songs. whooo-hoo.... DISPOSITION>REFLECTION>TRIAD.....i guess this is the norm now to do these three songs together, supposedly they invisioned them as one long song. It is not that these songs are not good, its just that they are sooo long winded, and the trio of songs takes a good 30 mins to do! Disposition was same as it ever was, reflection was too, other than the fact that it is not the song that leads into the intermission anymore..and that horrible horrible long repeated giutar riff that goes on forever actually dies out after 2 or 3 minutes now, because danny carey starts beating out the drumbeat for triad during it..cool! And triad is definatly a jam, in some strange ways it reminds me of grateful dead "drums" or something like that. And mike patton came out and tweaked with a keyboard during this, as well as john from tomahawk on floor toms...great song, perhaps the top of the evening as far as new songs are concerned! Supposedly terry bozzio of zappas band fame sat in with them in texas, that would have been UNBELIEVABLE!! But even ith tomahawk sittin in, it sounded wonderful! LATRALUS....they always close with this song. And it always sounds the same. Now, i am not really ragging on this song, i really love the end of it, and when it gets to the end, i always realize why they end with it, the end of that song really rocks. Right before they went into it, we got a few words from maynard..something like "thanks for coming, see you again soon..." and that was it. At least no "take this feeling" speech from last year. I mean, the first couple of times i heard him say that it was cool, but after hearing it a bunch it like "shut up, maynard!".but in ft myers, i was actually hoping he would say more! He was facing the back of the room, nd other than the very end when they were done, i barely saw his face at all. I just don't get these guys anymore. I still will listen to their music, but untill they have something to say ("he had a lot to say..he had a lot of NOTHING to say..we'll miss him....we'll miss him.......") i am just about done with them. I was considering going to daytona bach the next day, but decided that i didnt wanna see the same things over and over again, so i didnt. I think they need some new material, the lateralus stuff is starting to get old! Sorry guys! And they need to play more than 4 old songs...go back and count, thats all they did.....the new record (16 months old) and 4 old songs. Is that really enough? I dont think so. But i DID get away with taping with the core sounds. Not a schoeps tape, but it is listenable. And i will offer it up to everyone as soon as i catch up on all the burning i am behind on (if i have any cd's of yours, be aware i am workin on it!!!!) So thats about it. I had to go to this because my best friend who got me into aenima 7 years ago lives in ft myers, and had never seen them. A review from him would be completely diferent, he really enjoyed the show! But thats what tool is best at, the first show you see of theirs is generally gonna blow you away. But the more you see them, the less interesting they get. i almost feel like i have gotten to look behind the giant OZ curtain..and all there is is a bunch of mean nerds back there screaming "dont TAPE us! god forbid you should ruin the MYSTERY!" I just think its funny. Anyway, just wantd you all to know......... And the whole hugging thing at the end is really funny..reminds me of phil and friends or something. Only, tool isnt all about hugging and love. At least as far as i am concerned!! Peace, Jimbo

This was this reviewer's 1st? Tool show

What can I fucking say about that concert?...That was the most incredible concert that I have ever attended in my life, hands down... Tomahawk was an interesting surprise..I didn't really know what to expect from them, but all in all they did a pretty damn good job..their stage pressence is pretty bad ass, and I like the rock/industrial edge they've got going...I was surpised to see the mostly favorable response that they got, especially from this shithole town...good job guys. Tool on the other hand tore that fucking stage up like it was nobodys buisness...this was only my 1st time seeing them (cuse no good band wants to come near Fort Coma), and they just fucking rocked..period. Triad almost brought tears to my eyes because of the way they got so into it there towards the end..that was fucking badass...fortysixandtwo was simply amazing as well..the whole thing was just awesome...the lights/visuals were the best I've seen yet from any band..Tool definitely set the standard for what every band should strive for, even though there's no other band out there that could ever dupliicate what Tool did for us here in Ft.Myers..awesome show guys.tomahawk As far as Maynard playing with his back to the crowd the whole time, I really liked that..everyone else is bitching and whining about it, but I thought it was awesome..it added a little more intensity to the whole thing for some reason...it was unique, and a damn nice touch if you ask me Also, i have the unfortunante curse on my life of living in Fort Myers, and contrary to most of your opinions I thought the crowd was rather responsive to Tool's efforts and really appreciated what a fucking awesome show it was...expect for the dumb fucks who had to mosh throughout the whole show (I'd like to give a shout out to the dumb ass who busted his head/nose open on the concrete floor and had to leave 10mins into the show)...overall though, I thought the crowd was very appreciative...however, if any of you would like to buy me a plane ticket and get my ass outa here, I'm open for suggestions.....It was a perfect show though, thanks again!

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

From the time I got my floor tickets the second they went on sale to the day of the concert, it didn't really hit me that I was going to see my favorite band of all time, TOOL. Once inside and six feet from the stage, however, I couldn't stop shaking and bouncing. Then Tomahawk came on. Now, I don't know what these guys sound like on record, but live, I think they suck. I could barely understand a single word the singer was saying. After 45 minutes or so, they left the stage. My ears were ringing and Tool waqs next. My friends and I were standing a bit to the left, near the big bank of speakers. The crew came out and tested the equipment, and I could feel the wind coming from the speakers on my face. I was pumped. Then the ambience started. I didn't know if it was just another industrial track starting up or if Tool was getting ready to take the stage. After about 5 minutes of the stuff, I realized that it was Tool time. The lights went down, the purple lighting came up, and there was Tool. More ambience, then they broke into Sober. I almost fell over during that song from the fucking morons shoving their way through and causing a huge ripple. I was lost in the music for the first couple songs, until a mosh pit opened up right behind me. Now, Tool is not moshing music. Tomahawk may have been, but did a mosh pit open up during that noise? No, of course not. It had to open up during Tool and fuck up my flow. Damn drunken idiots. Anyway, amidst all the crowd surfing numbnuts and thrashing assholes in the mosh pit, I actually tried to enjoy myself. At one point, a girl hooked my arm and dragged me closer. I didn't mind for two reasons. She was pretty, and I was closer. The mosh pit died down during Parabol, but then there it was again for Parabola, and the girl and I were on the fringe of it. I wasn't very mobile with our arms entangled so I unravelled them and grabbed her hand. Once away from the pit I was getting back into the song, swaying and spacing out. Then, a guy sidles up in front of me and he looks kind of upset that this girl is holding my hand. Uh oh. Boyfriend? You bet. Was I afraid I was about to get my ass beat? Hell yes. He said something to her and she let my hand go and disappeared. I was disappointed, but ah well. I WAS at Tool. Once I refocused on the stage, the band was breaking into Disposition. It seems the mosh pit followed me, because all of the sudden a sweaty nasty drunk guy was all up against me, scrambling to keep his footing. I pushed him off and swore that next time they were down in good ol Florida to avoid anyone with beer on their breath like the plague. They closed out the set with Lateralus and threw various things into the audience. Maynard didn't look at us once the whole time, and they did seem not to thrilled to be up on stage. Afterwards, it looked like Danny Carey was the only one who had enjoyed himself. So, Tool, next time around, please rock me even harder. A sold out show and you guys look about as enthused as you would flipping a hamburger? Come on, you're Tool. TOOL I SAY! That's all from me. Rambling is done. System shutdown.

I'm posting to let all of you seat-ticket holders that you may actually be happier off with non-floor tickets. I was upset at first when the floor sold out, but once the show started, I was pleasantly suprised by the quality of the view. I could see the whole band as well as the video screens. I'm sure that many people at this show didn't even realize that there was a third video screen, under Maynard, which covered his platform. If you are going to try to be up front on the floor, this may greatly compromise your ability to view the video screens as well as your ability to breathe. At this show, the floor was overcrowded with people who had jumped over the seat/floor barrier. Watching the moshing that would start and stop off and on,I thought to myself "wow, if I was down there, I wouldn't be enjoying the show very much." I'm sure the setup is a little different at every venue, but if the screens aren't in your line of sight, you will be missing out on a myriad of cool CGI/video images. And yes, in my opinion, the majority of those who attended the Fort Myers show seemed to be pseudo-fans with nothing else to do that night than take up much needed space in the small Teco Arena. I'm also REALLY glad that they didn't perform at the Mars Music/Coral Sky ampitheater. Enjoy your seat.

Oh what a night . We ate some purple honey. Entered the arena. Tomahawk was awesome. As they played it felt as if i could feel the music resonating through the entire universe. It was some of the most innovative, inspiring music there is.I thought it was hilarious when they did that tripped out jam and the crowd was getting all restless & pissed off, but at the end when Patton said," Thank you, Mr. Danny Carey", the crowd roared.HEH...Tool is amazing. What a beautiful representation of life itself. The Grudge seemed to identify w/ the burden of the flesh. How seperation is an endless struggle... hence the amazing visual of the snake eating its own tail brought to life. The almost holographic seeming face was revealed for the 1st half of the show. Inside what seemed like smoke or energy around the face you could make out what looked like alien fetuses. Alex Grey's sacred mirrors were added to another beautiful backdrop. Triad was incredible. Thank you, Tool and everyone who worked to make that happen. The only disappointment is the crowd.Obnoxious, drunken, and waiting for something to happen.DAMN...try watching the show.

I hadn't planned on making my own sort of review, but after reading the others for this show, I figured I would. First of all, Tomahawk blew. I couldn't understand a damn word of any of their songs. Tool was awsome. The opener was Sober(still the best opener for them to use...). After that the show as pretty much astounding. Anyone who is pissed that Maynard never faced the crowd is forgeting what they really came for...the music. The visual effects were great as well. They showed very little emotion, but maybe it was all part of the scheme. Over all, I will be back to every local show.

just so you know: today is august 7th and i just returned from daytona. i witnessed the ft. myers show and the daytona show. the crowd at the ft. myers show seemed pre- occupied where as the crowd in daytona seemed thrilled and cheered continuosly.... the truth about this show was that all four band members werent into the music. when i say "into" it, i mean emotionally. they didnt looked bored to me but rather they appeared to be more uncomfortable, especially maynard. if you really noticed how off the show was, up until the last song of the night, and then noticed how passionately maynard sang it, you would agree. he also held flowers the whole song. someone above mentioned the lead singer of Tomahawk bringing him the flowers so i guess thats where he got them. he held them like a baby at one point and then, towards the end, began bending back and waving them. i dont want to continue pointing out other observations because whatever was going on.... happens. the positive side to this show was seeing that the members of tool are indeed human and cannot mechanically produced the magic we all love them for. it is the emotions they share that defines tool. on a side note: we stayed at the best western hotel and had a good time. i also saw the largest joint i have ever seen in my life. have a good.....

I agree with Violateralus. Most of you people who were at this show were assholes.. YOu guys gave off negative energy and screwed this show up for us TOOL FANS. Screw all of you who went to this show to get fucked up and mosh. You realize that Maynard didn't even say "thanks for reminding us why we do this"? While I'm pissed off that Maynard didn't turn around and that none of them with the exeption of Justin seemed into the show.. I can't blame them. If I was playin in front of that crowd that was there on August 4th, I wouldn't have busted my ass to try and put on a great show either. Thanks a lot to all of you pseudo-Tool- fans... Stay home on the next leg of the tour. Also- what's up to Ben, Shane, and all of you kick-ass people who we chilled with from 10 oclock in the mornin on... Glad we all met up and found every possible way into Teco Arena...8) You guys know what I'm talkin about... Hopefully there will be another show to go to so we can redeem ourselves and have an amazing show like every other one has been... --Jeremy

Tool has proven to be one of the best bands around. The music was incredible and the visuals were beautiful, the combination of both made it one of the best experiences of my life, and the best show Ive ever been to. I had a great seat and could for the first time see danny play without having to stand on or push someone else, and wow! apart from having the coolest drumset on the planet he is the one of the best drummers I have seen. Maynard was of course weird (he almost always faced the other way) but amazing and justin and adam played perfectly. The set was great, some opiate would have been nice but triad alone was worth the three hour drive and one hour flight. Tomahawk was good also, being tool´s opening act takes allot of balls.

So, yes the band seemed bothered about this, but since i was not on the floor i had a peaceful concert experience and could enjoy every moment of it.

Id write a long review for this, but there just isnt that much that I havnt covered with my other two reviews. Ill list the interesting notes and comments. I didn't hardly pay attention to the show I dont know why, I just wasnt feeling it tonight. I did talk to the security lady workin in the sound pit and she was pretty cool. She even got her son a job movin equipment on and off the stage. I tried to find her the next night in Daytona to give her a copy of the show for her son, but I couldnt find her. Tomahawk sounded better then they did in Pensacola, but Tool sounded worse...whats with that?? They played 46 & 2 instead of H, which was very cool. I did find a quiet spot to record the 2nd half of the show from so there isnt much talking. I was however standing near some stupid girl that talked on her cell phone for 20 min....I wanted to punch her in the boob. The same visuals were used for H and 46 & 2 and it didnt fit the song as well. Someone gave Maynard some flowers which was pretty nice. The bootleg sounds better then the sound in the venue...which is also rather weird. So ya..thats about it. If I missed anything oh well :) One other thing.....Ft. Myers people suck!!! ---------- Greg www.enemyzero.com/greg/ aim: dunebug81

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

As most of the reviews I'm reading are mixed, I'm going to assume that this was a merely "okay" show for the group. If so, then I cannot frigging wait to see a "good" one. For myself and my two companions, it was an amazing experience. The set was great (although I wish they had played THIRD EYE, EULOGY, and/or PUSHIT) and the films were incredible. This was my first opportunity to see the vid for PARABOL/PARABOLA...I hope we see a SALIVAL Vol. II someday so I can get the vids from LATERALUS on DVD. Sweet. SHORT PSA: Anyone who moshes to progressive rock looks like an ass. AN ASS. I feel sorry for those poor girls that looked like they were being forced to crowdsurf. Ticketmaster sucks. They really do. Our seats were in restricted viewing (meaning over the Zamboni entrance, behind and to the left of the stage). When the lights went out for Tomahawk, we pulled up stakes and moved 2 sections over, which gave us a great view of the stage and screens. Of course, we then realized that if we'd stayed where we were, we would have been able to see MJK's face. But oh well. And speaking of Tomahawk, they sucked and sucked BAD. The audience began to boo at one point and Mike knew it...in fact, he used a break in the set to let everyone get their opinion voiced. Then they KEPT PLAYING. The horror. Mike, for Pete's sakes, man...you're using a microphone. Your voice is being amplified to 15x its normal volume. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SCREAM, AND WHEN YOU DO, WE CAN'T UNDERSTAND A FRIGGING WORD. Amazing show, though.
