This was this reviewer's 7 Tool show

This was the most amazing tool show that i have ever been to!!! The crowd was really into it, unlike the fools in Ft. Myers. Maynard even made a comment about that which ill go into a bit later. The lines to get in were terribly long. They were doing full pat downs on everyone which was making me a bit nervous. I stood in three different lines before I finally went in. I finally chose a line where this guy couldnt have cared less about who or what got in. Im up to him, then this guy that works for Tool told him that they were going to slow and they should just check random people and only if they are wearing baggy clothses. I wasnt even searched! So i go to the bathroom and put my gear in place and head down to the floor. We get down to about the 10th row and I had a security guy my ticket from Ft. Myers and he looked like it like i had two heads. He had to call someone over to figure out what was going on. Thats what I get for wearing the same pair of shorts 2 days in a row. We get to our seats and wait about 20 before Tool goes on. We missed all of Tomahawk but they suck and ive already seen them twice. The lights go down and Danny walks out and sits down, then Justin and Adam and finally Maynard. Adam starts to play the "noise box" for a few moments and then starts in on his guitar. Next thing I know I hear Justin play the opening notes to Sober.....the crowd goes nuts. Next they roll out The Grudge. That is just an amazing song. It gets better and better everytime I hear it. The lights go down and we hear some electricity and the fiber optic cable in the lights starts to illuminate. That has to be one of the coolest things i have ever seen at a concert. Stinkfist starts and the crowd goes crazy again. They played the extended version with the extra lyrics which maynard hasnt sang the last few nights. The new visuals are just amazing. Maynard says hello and asks if this is daytona....he gets a weak response and asks are you sure....maybe this is Ft. Myers. Which was rather humorous because the Ft,. Myers crowd wasnt into the show at all. Next comes H which I was really excited to hear because I heard it for the 1st time in Pensacola and I didnt get think I would get to hear it again. I like the new ending that maynard sings. If you have heard it then you know what Im talking about. Ill put a clip of it online in the next week or so. Schism was next and the new into is just smokin'. Its too bad it isnt like that on the album. The lights go out and Parabol starts....slow...but building up. Maynard has the most awesome voice. I cant believe how good the sound was. I had my high school graduation at the Ocean Center and I couldnt hear my name being called when I walked across the stage. Parabola starts the big huge cluster of balloons rise and the band is just rockin out. I like the "remix" of the video they are doing. I think its much better then the regular version. Eon Blue Apoc. starts and flows right into The Patient, this is the 4th time that I hve heard it and it just gets better and better. Maynard is quite talkative tonight and asks the crowd if they want to take the "Non-conformist Oath" The crowd cheers and he says "Think for yourself....question authority....think for yourself....question authority.....(he says something else but Ill have to listen to the bootleg cause I forrget)" Then at the end he says "Dont repet things that others tell you to" which is pretty funny and gets a good laugh out of the crowd. I can tell that they are going to play something....I had a feeling that it was going to be Opiate and I was right. I still cant believe it.....OPIATE!!! Most people dont realize what a treat they got. Maynard rips thru it like he sings it every day. The lights go down and its time for the intermission. 7 min. go by and the band walks back on stage. I become sad because I know there is only an hour left of the show and I wish they would play for two more hours. Justin starts to play Disposition and i start to melt. That is the most beautiful song i have ever heard. Its just too bad that the lame-asses that i was sitting next to just wanted to talk the ENTIRE show. Reflection starts and ever note is better and better. Adam slows down the last few notes and plays them over and over while danny taps the drums slower and slower....the stage hands set up the 2nd set of drums for Triad and Triad just explodes onto the crowd. That has to be one of my favorite songs live. It so intense. The lights are also the best during Triad. Maynard thanks Mike and the drummer as they walk off stage. We get the "do something positive" speech tonight which Ft. Myers didnt get. Lateralus starts and is just the most amazing song. The lights changing on the disco ball in the back is just so sweet. The song builds and builds and ends in a fury of bass and drums that has no equal. The band hugs and waves good-bye and leaves the stage. Awesome show to end my trek around florida. I may go see them in Greenville if I can get a ticket and someone to go with me. email me if you would like to go. dunebug81@netzero.com Id like to send a big shout-out to all the dicks that talk during songs that dont have any lyrics. WHY DO YOU ASSUME THAT YOU SHOULD TALK TO YOUR SKANK HOE OF A GIRLFRIEND DURING INSTRUMENTALS? SHUT THE HELL UP AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC. I REALIZE AFTER THE SHOW YOU WONT BE ABLE TO HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH HER BECAUSE YOUR 2 INCH DICK WILL BE IN HER MOUTH BUT BE CURTIOUS OF OTHERS AROUND YOU WHO ARE THERE TO TAKE IN ALL THAT THE BAND HAS TO OFFER. OK, thats my rant for this evening..... Setlist for those who dont want to read all the i just typed: Sober The Grudge Ions Stinkfist H Schism Parabol Parabola Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Opiate ---intermission--- Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus This is the real set so dont be fooled by fake ones. I just wanted to say it was an amazing show - aside from the beautiful music there was an amazing light show and the stage set was great.. I also love to watch Maynard dance, he does some pretty far out moves. The Ocean Center blows, there is no moshing allowed and nobody would stand up, I don't know, maybe it's not allowed there. A lot of the audience tried to show support for the band, but then again a lot of them were just sitting there with their hands in their laps, which pisses me off. If you're gonna go see a band play, you should at least scream yourself hoarse to show your support. But maybe that's just me. Anyway, Maynard rules and the show kicked ass. I would go see them at least once a year if I had the opportunity. Well, see ya.

I don't want to post a review seeing as how people have already captured how awsome this performance was. What I would like to do, and I am not sure if he will ever read it, is to thank Justin. I was one of the lucky 8 across the street tonight, and I want to thank you for your time. You guys rock.

This was this reviewer's 4th Tool show

Tool are the standard by which all other 'rock shows' should be measured. I was experiencing what I had waited for and it was indeed everything I could have hoped for. Tool are the first band I ever experienced at the tender age of 16 during the 96 tour and if I die tommorrow I will die happy knowing they were also the last band I ever saw. This probably sounds cheezy but I had goosebumps throughout the entire parabol/parabola and just a general feeling of 'being one with my surroundings' and a strange euphoria throughout the entire show...and no I was not on any drugs. Ill spare the details of what songs were played and what maynard said to the crowd and simply say that Tool are masters of thier craft. The visuals were mind bending as always..only multiply that by 3. Shaping the light rafters into a 7 pointed star was a nice touch, as were the floating 'atom balls' and the metallic glitter. The alex grey backdrops were, to quote the drunken frat boy "the fucking shit" A quick comment on the venue...Oceancenter staff are morons...I waited in line for 25 mins only to walk right past security without even an attempt at a pat down. The actual venue is decent, and I liked the fact that the floor had fold out seating which helped deter moshing...actually there was no moshing at all :) I enjoy watching shows without being kicked in the back of the head or suffocated and tonight i was able to stand 30 feet from the stage and not have to worry about either. And one quick comment on the crowd...for the most part respectful and courteous which suprised me, aside from the 'frat boys' seated next to me who kept trying to start a mosh pit during 'H' and who were talking nonstop. I have never understood the motivations of people that go to a show and yell non sensical bullshit the entire time to garner attention. I understand that mommy and daddy didn't pay you enought attention when you were little and you didnt get to see disneyland until you were too old to enjoy it...get over it losers...whew. Not exactly a quick comment more of a rant i suppose. Tool, thank you for helping me have faith in music and art and life and people and thank you for shining a light into the darkness...If only for a moment.

I guess waiting around for 2 hrs. after the show really did pay off. How awesome is that? BTW the show kicked ass....more ass than the Orlando show back in Oct. '02. The crowd had lots of positive energy and the sound was great. Thanks to all the band members for a wonderful experience. -Rena

What a great show. Won't bother with the playlist, just scroll up some. No aenima, but they did play opiate. 46&2 was the only other song on the tour I havent heard them play at the 2 concerts I was at, but ill live till next year =\ The chairs were a shame IMO. The pit is part of the concert atmosphere. I've never been kicked in the head or strangled in a pit....At least give people the choice of seats or the piut. If you dont like what happens in the pit, get a seat ticket. Music was great as always, triad was so intense. Maynard made a crack about Ft. Meyers, which was pretty amusing. Only thing that ruined this concert for me was the fat girl behind me who would spontaniously scream and reach her hands out over my shoulder. During the music, not between, she would keep screaming her lungs out. But she fell down the stairs twice, that made up for it. The search lines werent done in a timely manner, but it was well worth the wait to get in. Great show, can't wait till they come back to florida.

WoW! That was a great show, I think it was better than the Orlando Show last year... and what a treat, they played H. The crowd in Daytona was awesome, I didn't see anything get thrown onto the stage... the people around us were really cool, there were no obnoxious people, except for this lady that was behind us on the railing that bent down to us and asked us to yell with her "Take it off" after Maynard came out during Stinkfist with his speedos on... that was funny but strange, and she looked like an older (mid 30's to late 40's) lady... not that there is anything wrong with that... but it kinda weirded me out... The Ocean Center is TINY... very small venue... I have been past it so many times, and never realized how small it actually is... Maynard didn't have his back to the crowd like he did in Ft. Meyers... I found out from someone that went to that show, that there was a very bad vibe in the air in Ft. Meyers... Maynard was very animated on his platform which was great to see... I couldn't see him very well at the Orlando show last year... I was on the floor... this year I was in the stands section 122, row S, seats 5-7... I thought they were perfect seats, we could see everything on the stage... had the perfect view of Adam and Maynard... the music was incredible... I really felt everything... the lighting and screen show was excellent... I really like what they did this year... I didn't need any hallucinogenic substances to enjoy myself... plus I couldn't find any... he he he... I liked the part right before Opiate, where he got the crowd to say "Think for yourself... Question Authority..." and that whole speal... that was cool... I left the show feeling very positive... very happy... The closing with Lateralus and the group hug was great..... I missed Tomahawk completely... many people say that I didn't miss anything, but I wanted to see Mike Patton perform.. I don't care if it sucked or not.. he is awesome... wish I could have gotten a concert T-shirt... but I forgot to hit an ATM, I fugured they would have them in the Ocean Center...but I was wrong about that... Oh, Well.... maybe they will tour again next year.. but I have a feeling that they wont... Oh, and one more thing... How the Hell do you get those meet and greet passes? Are those a thing that people get when they win tickets from the radio station? Anyway... "With my feet upon the ground I loose myself between the sound...." "Spiral out...." PEACE! JP

awesome show, the band seemed much more into it than Ft Myers. I won't bore everyone with rehashed tool reviews, so how about the Tomahawk reviews? They were awesome too! I missed the first few songs(i assume it was a mix of flashback, pop1, and god hates a coward), but here was the set that i did see: 101 North Jockstrap New Song (great song too) Laredo Point and Click Angel Eyes Patton kept making fun of the crowd, saying that it looked like they were watching the opening night of Pocohantas 2. Then he made fun of some girl for drinking like white trash, introduced "Maynard's Dad" (just some guy) sitting in the front row, and said that he was Jim Carrey and made a bunch of weird faces. Patton was on 100% tonight (even more than their standalone show in orlando on friday). On a Tool note, I had 4th row from the front, dead center, and it was cool to watch the band play from up close. I was barely able to see the screens or the stinkfist electric lights, and the band was very into what they were doing! Justin was moving back and forth the whole show, and I even caught Adam getting into it a little!

my first tool show...wow. it was more than just a rock concert...a religious experience. i wish i had a few more eyes to take in all of the visuals. instead, i had to glance back and forth from the screens on the side to the stage (although i would focus on the performance when the visuals were repetitive). i was made a very happy camper that "H." was played. that meant a lot to me. the visuals for that one were especiallly memorable: ouroboros swollowing its tail perpetually... i am not a headbanger or mosher, but i found myself uncontrollably lurching with the music. especially during the heavy part of "lateralus" (and the chorus to that song is so difficult to mosh to it is comical). it was extremely intense when the light revealed maynard as a living shadow during the first notes of "Sober." their show will probably make all the other non-tool shows i see seem bad in comparison, no matter how good they are. thanks to tool; i feel like a better person for having seen them play last night.

I thought Tool put on a great performance in Daytona. The visuals and backdrops were excellent, very very stimulating. The setlist was just fine by me, however more of "older Tool" would have pleased me, but you can't have it all, can you? Me and my girlfriend were in Section 1, Row D, Seats 30 and 31. So, we were 4 rows back from the front. They were just awesome seats. I could see everything perfectly, except for when the high and drunk frat boys in front of us stood up and tried to mosh in their seats (they are there for a reason, no?). We are from jacksonville, fl so it wasn't that bad of a drive. Last year we went all the way to North Carolina to see them. Thank you Maynard, Danny, Adam, and Justin. You seemed very alive and I thank you. One more note. Behind me, the 5th row (row E), there was a girl who seemed like she had OD'ed. She was very limp the whole concert and her b/f was holding her sitting down. Her throat was open and her eyes rolled back into her head. She was even foaming a little at the mouth and her b/f was checking her pulse. She looked very pale, it was not a pleasing site. Matter a fact, it scared the shit out of my girl. Anyone know what happen to his woman behind us? She had black hair if that helps. :P A security guard for the ocean center passed down our row at one point and said something to the guy, however not till over an hour later did paramedics come and finally take her. She seriously, looked.... Dead. If anyone has any info on this, please email me in private. Maybe it was on the Daytona news if she died? Thanks again the band... -David

It was a great show. It wasn't much different than last years tour. Almost the same setlist, video clips ect... Does anyone ever wonder why Tool is an incredibly intelligent group with an incredibly stupid fan base. Maybee its just Daytona. I've never seen a bigger bunch of loser all in one place until last night. Most of the people around me only really knew 3 songs, you could tell cause the rest of the concert they wouldn't shut up, throwing thier empty beer cups, acting like typical Dayona Beach trash.

These are the songs I heard last night: Sober The Grudge Stinkfist H Schism Parabol Parabola Opiate Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Reflection Disposition Triad Lateralus Justin and me arrived at the Ocean Center at about 7:15. When we entered about a fourth of the seats were full and Tomahawk was playing. They really fucking sucked so I will refrain from talking about them at all. About half an hour after Tomahawk left the stage some Tool- esque feedback started blaring through the speakers and some Lateralus artwork appeared on the two gigantic projection screens on both sides of the stage. Finally the band appeared and exploded into “Sober”. The stage was lit red when Maynard appeared when the vocals kicked in. The video screens went crazy with swirling static and video of people holding their ears when the “Jesus wouldn’t fuck whistle” lyric. After “Sober” the band drifted into “The Grudge” the lights went from red to blue and a giant sheet fell from the back of the stage revealing a giant face. On the video screens were CGI images of zombie looking creatures and eyes being played. When “The Grudge” ended Maynard said, “Daytona Beach” the crowd went crazy then he responded with “Are you sure?” Without enough time to comprehend what he just said the band went straight into “Stinkfist”. “Stinkfist” is a fucking anthem and seeing this extended version live fucking blew me away. “H” was the next song that Tool played. This was one I specifically wanted to hear. I was glad that they played it. Just when I thought this concert was somewhat biased to “Aenima” Justin (the bassist) started playing the recognizable bassline to “Schism”. Maynard went especially crazy during this song. This was a slightly tweaked version of the song. The stage went black. There was a brief silence and the band started playing the comforting and warm “Parabol”. Scenes from the video played on the video screens. Gigantic atom looking balloons hovered over the darkened stage. The mood shifted when the band literally exploded into “Parabola”. This song was most defiantly one of the biggest highlights of the show. The crowd went crazy when the Adam (the guitarist) busted into the solo of the song. After “Parabola” Maynard spoke. He said, “Repeat after me.” Then he muttered one-liners like “think for yourself” and “question authority” as the crowd repeated. Then he said “and never repeat something when you are told to repeat me.” Tool appropriately played “Opiate” next; of all the songs I wasn’t expecting I really wasn’t expecting to hear “Opiate”. After “Opiate” Tool went into the interlude track “Eon Blue Apocalypse” which quickly shifted into “The Patient”. There was a brief intermission during which some “(-) Ions” sounding music was played. When the band returned they started playing “Disposition”. The stage was going insane. Layers of Alex Grey artwork were all over the place and the lights were going crazy. There were so many colors and there was so much stuff going on, it was something you truly had to witness to even begin to comprehend. “Disposition” drifted into a very extended version of “Reflection”. I was so glad they played these beautiful mostly instrumental songs. Halfway through the drummer from Tomahawk came out and helped out. The stage was still light up and the lighting set an intense mood. The intense guitar jam “Triad” was played next. Eventually this turned into the definite high-point of the show and the ultimate encore “Lateralus” It was so fucking awesome, this was the song I was hoping to hear all night. Everyone in the crowd was singing every word to that song. After the music stopped Maynard said “Thank you for coming, I hope feel a new inspiration and in the next couple weeks, and months you help to spread this inspiration. Thank you.” The stage dimmed to black then the show was over. Last night was the greatest night of my life. No band can enlighten me like Tool. It was so fucking great to see them live and live and have intense visuals put to the intense audio. Every elated feeling I have ever had while listening to Tool was multiplied by a million last night. The absence of mosh pits gave the concert an incredibly intimate mood. This concert helped solidify the fact that Tool is so much more than four musicians to me. This concert helped bring the most intense of emotions to the forefront of my mind and body. http://www.deadjournal.com/users/freethinker/ This is my deadjournal where my review is also posted.

Up until last night the Orlando Arena show had been the most uplifting experience of my life. I was even able to share that experience with someone I cared about and that added to the high I felt after the show. I didnt come down off that high for a while. Then Daytona happened. First, let me describe the atmosphere and my inital thoughts. Seats everywhere, and not everyone liked this, though it was thrilling and frightening for me. One part of me said "No way can they mosh or surf with all these chairs, the other part said "How is security going to be able to control this crowd? the seats arent bolted down or anything, just tied together. Four stupid drunks could toss a whole row easily and hurt people. FORTUNATELY...the crowd rocked. While they didnt all like the setup, they did all, for the most part, respect it. Everyone had their own space to breathe and move and feel the music and energy of the concert goers around them. Props to security too, they handled everything very well. There was heavy congestion in the rows for a while, but they handled that as well, keeping everything under control. There was NO surfing and extreme minimal moshing (if you call three guys pushing each other around for two minutes moshing) The crowd was just soooo much more positive than the Ft. Myers crowd, it felt incredible to be amongst them even before the bands came out. There wasnt even too much negativity toward Tomahawk! not from where I was sitting anyways. Tomahawk, by the way, was much more into it and had a much better performance in Daytona. Patton even did this vegas showgirl tune sounding thing that he performed in Orlando at the Social, which was a pleasant surprise. Great show. He compared himself to Jim Carrey and us to a crowd watching a Jim Carrey movie, and did a few sec impersonation of Carrey. The crowd was pretty much seated the entire time, which I think Patton liked because before playing the last song he asked us all to sit the fuck back down. Made fun of Mullets too. Tool was incredible, from the start it was more intense than the previous nights show. I feel that Sober is kinda a test of the crowd in a way, and they passed! They didnt all start pushing forward and moving rows of chairs and trying to form pits and crap, they respected, for the most part, everyone's space. I was able not only to see the band well from a good distance from the stage (on floor, sec 10 row Q, seat 10), I had room to move without disturing the people around me, and it felt great. Sober was an incredible opener and following Sober Maynard began facing us, and faced us for the remainder of the show.... by the way..I know you've read it and I havent even checked out the posts yet, but H!...ohhh... and there was interaction! "I dont mind" and he held the mike out to the crowd ...it was soooo intense, the echo of the crowd "I don't mind" was so powerful, it sounded so good...If anyone knows of an authorized recording of the show, I want to hear that again, it was incredible. "Thankyou for reminding us why we do this" (or somthing to that effect)... oh yeah! beginning of the show Maynard says "Daytona" and the crowd starts doing the yell thing, "Are you sure" "Sounds more like Ft. Myers" (crowd ) "boooooooo" "Nah, its Daytona" and Opiate! Before he played , with the "think for yourself" bit, I thought he was going to play Third Eye, and he played Opiate and i was still...ahhh... Parabol/Parabola brought me to tears and I felt nothing that intense the night before, it was incredible and yes Maynard, quite healing. I related Lateralus at the end of the night to the experience I had just had, and I had never felt more connected to the music than i had that night, more inspired...the beauty..it was all so there.... Alex Greys artwork was showcased nicely too.. Well...my posts are always too long, so I'll stop here. It was incredible, and it was uplifting, it left me with a high like I hadnt felt since the Waterhouse show in Oct 2001. Keep going Tool, I'll try and keep up.

Well well well... Another good show on the Lateralus tour. The Ocean center is an OK venue, but the seats on the floor thing sucks. Other than that I have no complaints about the venue, the sound was pretty good, the security were not being nazis about people smoking weed, and it didn't seem like the security were too bad about searching, at least after a while. I walked in as Tomahawk was playing, they must have just started their set because they played for about 40 minutes that I saw. This show was so much better than their performance at the Cow Haus in Tallahassee last November. The band has gotten much tighter with their set, and they seem to be playing together much more comfortably. Mike Patton has settled into the role of band leader/singer/noisemaker as he does in all of his projects, and you can tell the band is more like a well-oiled machine. Plus the sound was horrible at the Cow Haus show, which detracted heavily from my enjoyment of that set, and it was not bad at all at the Ocean Center. I am starting to like this band much more than before, and one reason is that it is the most straight-forward rock project Patton has been involved with since Faith No More. I don't know all of the songs, but I know I heard Laredo, and no Flashback. Great set, the band got a good crowd reaction from those that were able to get past the security checks in time to see them. They have a statue of a deer on a riser toward the back of the stage, and the whole band dresses in police outfits. Tool played STANDARD TOOL SET # 2, i.e. the setlist with Opiate and H. This is the fourth show I have seen on the Lateralus tour all together, but I still enjoyed it fully. I brought a Tool Virgin with me, and she fully enjoyed the show, although I think deep down she wished I really was the rapist she feared I might be (we met online and hooked up for the show). Ha ha Alex, just kidding, you know I am too much of a gentleman for that. the crowd was not lame in my opinion, just confined to the rigid requirements of an assigned-seating show. I saw plenty of people feeling the music, dancing, singing along, and smoking their brains numb. Mad props to the heavy hitters in section 103 row E, you guys kept me with a steady contact high for the whole show. Seriously, these people must have blazed about 12 joints in a row all through the show. This was my first time seeing Tool from anywhere other than a general admission floor area, but I had pretty good seats so it was OK. It would have been more fun if the floor was GA, but I think most people in attendance had a great time anyway. I know my little Tool Virgin was happy, she has had her purity taken from her by a short jew, a furry Englishman, a white guy that looks like a corpse, and an octupus that plays drums.... a massive five-way TOOLgasm! The new stage set up was really cool, it complements the show very well, especially in the arena setting. I love the Alex Grey backdrops. The confetti during Patient was cool, as well as the big balloon orbs during Parabola, and the fiber optics for -Ions. I think I am going to lay off going to Tool shows until they put out another album, four shows on the Lateralus tour, al good shows, but I think I have fed the monkey on my shoulder enough for a while.

HELL YEAH. That was my overall feeling last night. I saw Tool at the show in Orlando last October, and this blew that away. I didnt meet the band, I didnt have bad seats, I didnt have a bad experience. And about 96% of the crowd stood for the entire concert. Everyone with seats, stood. Maynard Asked if it was Daytona, and then if they were sure it wasnt Ft Meyers. When the crowed booed in response. He replied that it was definatly Daytona. and as for what everone is confused about, Maynard said 'Is everyone ready to take the non conformist Oath? Repeat after me. Think for yourself. Question Authority. Think for yourself. Question Authority. Think for yourself. Dare to be different. Dare to be unique. Think for yourself. Never repeat anything that anyone says. Then...OPIATE. It was awesome. Ive seen Tool 2 times, and both times it was a Religious Experience. Love each other, take care of yourselves. Oh, and If you saw a guy with a red/black tatoo on his arm earlier in the day, that was me. -Jay

All of the setlists posted so far have been right. Well, I would first like to thank Tool, of course, for an awesome show. Secondly, I would like to thank the fans around me in the pit--no jerks. I had, of course with my luck, the opportunity of been seated right next to the girl who was taken out by paramedics. I don't know what was wrong with her. She sat down after I think The Patient or somewhere thereabout, and never stood back up. What is the deal with people talking in the fucking middle of songs?!? There I was going deep inside myself during Lateralus, and this woman wants to have a conversation about the girl next to me! And that wasn't the first time, either! I was worried about Tomahawk, because everywhere I heard that they sucked. But I went in with an open mind, and actually enjoyed their performance, although I certainly don't plan on buying their CD. I coulnd't understand a word Patton said (if those were words), so I thought of his voice as the fourth instrument in the band. Perhaps people are so used to being connected with Maynard's voice that they expect the same out of all other bands (I know I do!). But we can get past that.... Anyways, on to TOOL.... Words cannot describe the energy that was flowing between me and the band. I hope I will one day be a part of something that special (I play Bass). The Grudge I think would be a better opener than Sober, but I am happy that they played them both. Stinkfist began with an intro (after - ions) that sounded like the beginning of Flood, but then they rocked out on one of my favorite songs off of Aenima. H. was so good, as was Parabol(a), Reflection (my co-winner of personal favorite), Triad (the other winner), and Lateralus. Going to a concert by yourself I think is different than going with friends; I would feel less self-conscious, I think. But alone I yelled out at the top of my lungs the closing to Lateralus, and felt it move across my skin. I think there's something that Maynard stands on that makes him rotate during Lateralus, because I don't think his feet were moving but he certainly was. And I know now not to repeat what others tell me! Indeed, I will take the energy from last night with me for a long time. I hope you will too.

All I have to say is: WOW. I've seen 40 or 50+ bands, big and small, and this was easily the best show I've ever had the opportunity to see. Between the lights, the stage, the videos and the music, it was very psychadelic. I'm a long-time fan but this was my first chance to see them live. I got everything I expected and more. I stole someone else's seats, so if your tickets said 118, row M, seat 1.... sorry about that. I'd have to say Triad was the highlight of the night. I could go on and on about how impressed I was, but I think my feelings on the concert have been covered by just about everyone who posted before me. I thought Tomahawk was better than everyone I've spoken with had made them out to be. I hope Patton's vocal noises are some kind of joke though. If anybody has bootlegs of this show, Ft. Myers, or Pensacola, PLEASE send them to me: ICQ - 15526147 AIM - XxREPUSxX Also, if anybody happened to notice the 17 year old blond guy in the Pumpkins' "Zero" shirt, that was me.

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

As you can tell, just about everyone has beaten me to this, but I wanted to post my thoughts. This was my first Tool show. It was everything I could ever have imagined, and more, so if you have tickets to a later show, you will be absolutely amazed! Let's start with Tomahawk. Mike was so full of energy, it was great! He was using all these weird microphones. It was really cool. I LOVED his scream during Flashback. He had so much energy, like I said. He was jumping around, doing weird little bouncy dances. I'm convinced seeing Tomahawk was worth the $38.50 I paid for my ticket. Then, there was the good long wait for Tool. We had fairly decent seating. We were upper elevation, but since the arena only seated 10,000 people, we were able to see the bands really well. Some of the artwork was a little difficult to see, but that wasn't really a problem. But, then, the lights went dark, and the ring of eyes from the CD front appeared on the screens, and everyone went absolutely CRAZY. I won't post the setlist, because I can't remember it, and some other folks have already posted it. :) Some people were very rude, but I'm sure you don't want to hear about it. I will tell you about the funniest thing that happened. When they started to play Opiate (!!!!), my brother, before anyone else even recognized the song, screamed "HOLY SHIT!" and jumped up screaming. Everyone else realized what was happening then, and a tidal wave of applause erupted. Overall, the crowd seemed very into both Tomahawk and Tool. The show was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Listening to them live makes you appreciate the recorded songs even more, and the image of them hugging, Maynard standing right next to Danny in his little black Speedos, with Adam and Justin, is something I will remember forever. Make the most humanly possible effort to see them. It is definitly worth it.

Set List (this is definately right): Sober The Grudge H Stinkfist Schism The Patient Parabol Parabola Opiate ---intermission--- Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus First of all i just want to say that Tomahawk sucks. But on a lighter note, tool frickin' rocked the damn roof off. They were amazing. By the way I am only 13 and this was my first ever concert. Man, even though I said Tomahawk sucked when they came out to help with Triad, that song was awesome. I was so glad they played H and Opiate. Those two are some of my favorites. It was especially cool when on H they let us sing the part where it goes "I don't mind, I don't mind, I DON'T MIND!!!" Maynard was amazing and at the beginning of the show he was wearing a mask like that Lateralus guy. But after Sober, he stripped down to his underwear and left it like that. The Grudge definately was the best song they had, and I was suprised that Schism rocked so hard. Opiate kicked ass too, and at one point I thought the place was gonna blow. Absolutely amazing concert and the visual effects were awesome too. I'm just 13 and I think I know all the words to these songs, which makes it much even more enjoyable.

As always, Tool displayed what makes them so far beyond any other band out there. The show was incredible. I saw them last year in Tampa and this was far better. I always hope to hear at least one song I have not heard before, and I was lucky because I heard H. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. Overall, it was agreat setlist. I was overwhelmed when they played Opiate. I have heard it before, but it is always nice to hear the old stuff. Its what got me into their music in the first place. Hopefully, one day I will hear all of the songs off of Undertow. The venue was a little bad as far as sound. I had a chance to see them outdoors at Lollapolloza during its last run and they sound even better outside. In closing, I just want to say I feel lucky to have been able to witness Tool make incredible music. Oh, and if there is a bootleg of this show or others for that matter please e-mail me. Thank you.

This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

This show was fabulous what can I say... unfortunately I'm not as eloquent a writer as others seem to be, but I'll give it my best shot. This is my 3rd TOOL show, all on the Lateralus tour. Last year I saw TOOL for the first time in Orlando, and ended up driving all the way to Kentucky to see them again. The drive was definitely worth it. Seeing them in Daytona was awesome, although the idiots around me somewhat spoiled the show. I know that there are different degrees of fan levels, and different reasons that inspire people to go to concerts. It just spoils it when a real TOOL fan has to be surrounded by high idiots just there for something to do. I don't know about anybody else, but being such a fan of TOOL, it was actually hard to believe that they were really there, right on stage in front of me. I loved every minute of it, you know the setlist by now. It was hard to take everything in, so really you had to use selective perception. The two hours flew by like 30 minutes. I truly felt a sense of dread when Lateralus started because I knew that would be their last song. The advantage of seeing two other shows on this tour was that I knew Maynard faced mainly to the right of the stage, so having gone in with that advantage I got better seats this time. The only qualm I have, and man I wish Maynard would read this, but yeah, keep dreaming I know... music is audio, and when you get really into a band you yearn for the visual to go along with it. By visual, I mean the visual qualities such as watching the drummers facial expressions as he grimaces. The first two shows I was too far away to catch the details and I left feeling so frustrated because of the lack of connection. This show I was much closer, but yet still, because of Maynard's standing back in the shadows combined with the black stripe down his face, it was nearly impossible (even with binoculars, which I brought this time) to actually see the details of his face. I yearned to see his lips move, to see him strain as he belted out a long strong note, or to actually see his eyes. To make that connection... It is as though there is still a part missing. That connection still has not been made. It's difficult to explain and I know I am doing a piss poor job of it but maybe someone out there understands how I am feeling. To sum up... fabulous show, wouldn't have missed it for the world, and would have gone to all 3 shows in FL had I been financially able. Can't wait to see you the next time around.

This was this reviewer's 7th Tool show

just so you know: i just got back from daytona. it is August 7th.... this was the most powerful tool show i have yet to see. it was really wild. i was seated about 20 feet from the stage, directly in the middle of the floor. the seats on the floor kicked ass!! tool should, and probably will one day, go to playing only seated venues. it provides the crowd with a more comfortable environment. i couldnt believe how much more alive the band was, when compared to the ft. myers show, the night before (maynard did make a negative reference to ft. myers confirming that something was off that night). the most powerful songs of the night were the grudge, parabol/parabola, opiate, and laterlaus. lateralus was defined that night!! the songs that touched me the deepest (made me cry) were H., the patient, and reflection. i believe i was tuned into the whole band but i felt like one with maynard because his movements were just speaking in volumes! he was, literally, throwing the music down. it looked like he was standing on an erupting volcano and trying to keep his balance. some highlights: the crowd singing the "I dont mind" lyric during H. the warm feeling during parabola. the oath before opiate, ironically, made the place as one. the crowd, and band, went nuts!! there was an insane unity on the stage during triad. it went off!!! Total Powerhouse!! (after the song, maynard patted the guest drummer on the back and they all looked really happy.) LATERALUS!!! no words could describe the intensity during this moment. i really hope the band decides to do an audio/video project as their next release. it seems to be where they are at as a band. in closing, i would just like to say thank you to the band and everyone who witnessed this event. it was special.

Just wanted to let everyone know the chick David (dbell83@bellsouth.net) was concerned about was a GHB overdose. She spent the night on a ventilator at the hospital. She was sent home the next morning when she returned from her G-Hole with a sore throat and a hell of a story. Figured I'd head off any bad press related to Tool. City of Daytona has gone all right wing and is looking for excuses to stop shows like this.

It was a very enlightening experience on all levels. Alex Grey's work is mind-blowing. Thank You. I was witness to all the trashy p.o.s. morons at the how. I thought that it was going to suck because i had no one to go with plus i drove all the way from Jacksonville, fl which is not too far away but anyway... Being from another country i've never been really exposed to a show of this magnitude with musicians that want to play their material not the usual top 40 shit that we have to deal thanks to "money-focusing" concert promoters. The crowd was great i was able to appreciate the show in his entirity, only in a few moments i was distracted by the yells of the drunk asshole seating behind me but i didnt pay much attention to it. I want to thank the band for making me feel better about everything in days that there is not much hope to feel positive about anything.

05 Aug 2k2 TOOL, Tomahawk Daytona Beach Ocean Center - Daytona Beach, FL Holy fecking shit. Simply cannot get any better than this. Decades in the making + still rolling. This was the 2nd time I got to seem them in a span of less than a year [how in the hell that happened, I don't know]. The first time we saw them was back in October last year in Orlando + I left my jaw on the floor somewhere. Incredible. I cannot express my feelings into words anymore about this band. I just love them to death. Maynard moves like a vampire would with abnormal, rhythmic, inhuman-like convulsions. He had a thick black stripe vertically painted down the front of his face. His voice was dead on, like it always is. The man never ceases to amaze me. Danny seems inhuman-like himself seeing as how fast he can play, but sit upright + still at the same time. My sister pointed out Justin's fingers upon the fretboard during "Schism" + they moved like a spider's legs in fast-forward. And Adam, the all-around genius, has the greatest guitarist stance I've ever seen. Normally, standing there still like a gargoyle made of stone would annoy me, but not with this guy. I stood there in awe of his skill + concentration when I wasn't yelling my lungs out. Absolutely breath-taking. The jam with the standing extra percussionist + moog player, just left me speechless. I couldn't stand it--in a good way, of course. The light show, which included 4 huge circling spots surrounding the soundboard, was amazing as well as the teletrons with images of alien-like grotesque figures in repeated motions. The entire spectacle was well worth a $40 ticket. They've got the secret ingredient that most people these days can't seem to find or possess. Hmm. Well, I guess I can put it into words after all. Thank you for coming back to Florida, guys. { k }

This was one awesome concert, even though I had shitty seats it was still pretty good. When I was in the car with my friend the radio stations were premoting it like crazy(which is kinda weird for a staion that blasts limp bizkit when people were waiting in line) I arived about an hour before they were letting people in and while iI was waiting I started talking to these people who were actualy quite cool. Well as I'm waiting a security guard passes by and says no two wave radios or cell phones are allowed in and I have no where to hide mine and that was my way of getting a ride home! So I was panicing and the lady I was talking to said I could keep it in her car until the show was over. Thanks alot lady! you saved my ass! If you read this be sure to send me an e-mail. Well as i went in I bought my tour shirt and sat down in my seat. When tomahawk came on I was prepared for the worst from all the horrible things I'd been hearing about them, but what I can say is that they wernt THAT BAD, I mean it wasnt exactly GOOD music but it wasnt as horrible as people had been saying it was. My favorite thing Mike said was when he said "You know tool didn't want us to play tonight, (crowd cheers) maynard said my dads here and I dont want anyone FUCKIN' with him" another favorite was when somebody was flippin him off and hes like Fuck you! why are u flippin me off for? Well as for when tool came on the crowd went fuckin nuts. I Loved the visuals and the music was just like the record. The only disapointments I had were that they didnt play aenema or 46&2 and would it kill to play eulogy or third eye? those are my favorite songs by them. and another thing thaks for that dumb ass raver girl who kept yelling TOOL and giving the lml sign. I wish she would have sat her britney spears wannabe ass down or at least shown her tits, but fuck her she got the wrong venue. But other than that it was a very memorible expirence. AND ALSO THANK YOU TO THE GUY WHO SAT NEXT TO ME AND BOUGHT ME A DRINK YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE MAN, THANKS.
