It was my first time seeing Tool and I want to see them a lot more in my lifetime. Also at Lollapalooza was Korn who kicked just about as much ass as Tool did. snoop dogg crap sucked cock. Tricky sucked. James sucked. Orbital took to long to set up, so we left. Tool and Korn were definitly the best there.

POSSIBLY BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST ONE OF THEIR SHOWS THAT I HAD SEATS FOR. THEY SOUNDED PERFECT AS USUAL AND MAYNARDS PRESENCE WAS COMMANDING HE DIDNT TWIST AND CONTORT AS MUCH AS HE HAS IN PREVIOUS SHOWS THAT I HAVE SEEN BUT HE WAS STILL INTO THE PERFORMANCE. ONE SIDE NOTE, I HAVE TRIED FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW TO APPRECIATE KORN AND THEIR MUSIC BECAUSE ALMOST EVERYONE THAT I KNOW LIKES THEM BU T AFTER SEEING THEM AT THIS SHOW I HAVE GIVEN UP HOPE, THEY ARE HORRIBLE I WOULD RATHER SPEND MY TIME AT ONE OF THE LOCAL CLUBS WATCHING A LOCAL UNSIGNED BAND THAN LISTEN TO THAT TOTAL SHIT THAT KORN PLAYED.

The sound was great and the show was better than I expected, this is a festival. A few interesting parts....extended outtro to Eulogy, little extra to Stinkfist which was really cool, before Opiate maynard said "when i count to 3, i want everyone to go into that dark little corner way inside and say yes"...he said this exact same thing when i saw them on their previous tour except they played H. right after.....they experienced some difficulties during 4 degrees, they stopped for a few seconds where maynard explained, some techs ran out and they started right where they stopped, pretty cool......before third eye, maynard said "this song is dedicated to Jim Chancellor"....before Aenema, Maynard explained how they were going to show a new video that MTV wasn't sure about showing "see, they don't understand us, they think we're about hate and destruction, we are about anger which is a constructive emotion and about choosing compassion over fear and changing some of your thoughts and ideas... overall....by far the best band at Lollapalooza...

I'm 26 and have been to a lot of shows in my lifetime. Tool was one of the best live bands I have ever seen. Keep it up!!!

Review written by: Azazel (Godslie@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/14/97 18:54:20 Tool was awesome! I had an absolutely excellent view of the band - I was in the pit, right in front of the stage. The only thing standing between me and the band was a rather large bouncer. I was completely awe struck watching Maynard perform. Maynard was totally sick, he cross-dressed for the occasion. What a sight it was to see Maynard prancing around in a perfectly contoured bra filled with life-like breasts complete with erect nipples. He sported skimpy tight lycra boxers, shiny platform heels, and a long pony tail that was intricately braided at the base. Maynard was painted head to toe in half blue, half white. Watching his surreal performance blew me away. He began posing like a woman in the beginning of his act, and some asshole kid behind me even had the audacity to loudly ask his buddy if it was a man or woman on stage! Duh?! After Maynard's posing, the band violently ripped right into "Hooker with a Penis." Maynard kept up his weird interpretive type movements throughout the entire s how. One highlight of the show was when Maynard asked the crowd to dig deep into their hearts, into that tiny sensitive corner of their heart that they rarely look into, and say "yes." I took it as another of Maynard's antics to show the ignorance and gullibility of people. Of course the crowd roared "YES" back to Maynard, showing that they will say yes to anything, even if they do not know what they are saying yes to. Maynard seemed to play the part of a tv evangelist preying on unsuspecting naive sh eep as he began belting out the lyrics to "Opiate" - "My Gods will becomes me...when he speaks out...he speaks through me...he has needs like I do...we both want to rape you..." Tool is an excellent band plunging deep into a dark domain that many would never venture to. Their performance at Lollapalooza was simply fantastic. I was left stunned when they walked off stage; I wanted MORE! In sum, it was an excellent show.

Review written by: Mike Rovin (SirMike76@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/14/97 12:36:30 Lollapalooza '97 in Hartford. I'm here only to tell you about TOOL, for this is their review site. Their set kicked ass. My four friends and I waited in anticipatrion all night for the very moment the guys walked on stage. Justin was green, Adam blue, Danny normal, and MJK half blue half white. Different colors from 5 days previous at Great Woods, Mass.(we were there as well). TOOL kicked it off with Hooker with a Penis. Awesome. From there they went right into Stinkfist which kicked ass. There was about a five minute interlude during which Adam ripped an awsome solo. From there they threw us for a loop, cause they went into 4 degrees. In Mass. they did Crept Away. What a performance of 4 degrees; I was spellbound. After that MJK stopped to spea k. "This next one I'd like to dedicate to a dear friend Mr. Jim Chancellor" Into a long, heart pounding version of Third Eye. This dedication in Mass. was Opiate. We were suprised again. And who is Jim anyway?? From there it was 46&2, eulogy, and sober. All amazing performances spruced up of course with Maynard's stage antics. MJK then asked us to dig deep way down into our hearts and say YES on his count. We did. It was like he took over our souls for that moment. Then it was into an awesome performance of Opiate in which MJK was really showing us his singing abilty. He sure did. After that, he talked a bit about why MTV is not sure if their will air the new video. "They think we're about hate and violence and negativity." He went on for a bit abo ut what they are really about. I was so mezmorized, I cant quite remember everything. You'll have to find out yourself. After that they closed the show with a raging performance of AEnema, accompanied by the new video. It was so good. Go Adam. After the final AY and crash of the drums, it was all over.....again. Much like Great Woods, Mass. I walked away saying "It's not enough, I need more." If there is one piece of advise I could give someone; Don't ever miss TOOL live, you'd make a big mistake if y ou did.

Review written by: Vindiom (evilthe1@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/14/97 02:02:28 Wow, what a show.....As soon as we arrived the stupid hairy christna idiots threw a bunch of books into my lap and had the nerve to ask me for money, It was bad enough we missed the Marleys who I actually wanted to see, but these poor yoga freaks actually follow the tour around in hoping that they can make a living selling books instead of getting a real job. I don't care what your cause is, that is pathetic. We finally made it in for the second half of the James set. I had only heard a song or two by them and I wasn't impressed with them at all, the crowd was totally out of it. They seemed pretty frustrated because they kept telling us to fuck off alot. Korn was insane, faget was one of the highlights of the show. Say what you want about Korn, any band that has their own unique sound like that and is so close to the mainstream deserves credit. Tricky was pretty aweful, I wasn't sure if they were playing or just testing their instruments the whole time, putting them after Korn was a mistake, half the crowd was asleep. Snoop was interesting, the crowd seemed to like it when he kept incouraging the mosh pits and when he lit up a joint on stage, doesn't say much about the intelligence of the people, but if feels good do it I guess, the music was gut-wrenching of course , but it was interesting anyway Tool was faboulus. Maynard was back to the old blue and white deal he used to sport, he was still in full drag, but the blue and white paint was refreashing. Justin was in white paint, Adam blue, Danny was normal. The whole way up I was praying they would play Third Eye, and they must have been reading my mind, because it was the highlight of the night. Third Eye is a song that must be seen live to do it proper justice, It was a true masterpiece and a musical tr iumph in my eyes. Other than Third Eye there were no surprises, The Aenima Video was very cool. MJK said that MTV won't play it because they look at them as a Hate band when really the deal with other issues such as Compassion and Anger, It was pretty deep at the time, I wish I could have heard what he was saying. Also before Third Eye he said "this song is dedicated to our dearly departed friend Justin Chancellor" At the same time Justin was on the floor doing some wierd shit with his bass The Setlist in the best order I could remember may be wrong: Hooker, Stinkfist, 46&2, Swamp Song, Eulogy, Sober, *Third Eye*, Opiate, Aenima We stayed for Orbitial and they we decent (not as good as everyone is hyping them up to be...sorry kabir), If your into that type of music they are probaly alot better but I tend to stay away from the techno scene. They sound good though, worth staying for anyway Overall I would say the show was an outstanding sucess for all the bands that played, and Tool left everyone mezmerized like only Tool can do, maybe thats why the took some of the steam out of Orbital, but overall a great show, I hope future lollapalooz a's are as good as this one
