The other bands were great, but nothing comes close to the look on everyones face when Tool steps into the spotlight. They preformed like no one else. I loved every second they played. They never broke character the whole way through. The only complaints that I heard from anyone was that they didn't play long enough.

Tool played another awsome set at the Bonner Springs Lollapalooza show on Tuesday! The "Hooker With A Penis" look was still intact, and the night sky with the kansas breeze and awsome lights with big screen visuals made Tool even better. I heard all my favorite songs, and "Aenema" was most enjoyable :) ~Jenny :)~

Review written by: Daniel Sternberg (Nirvanais1@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/30/97 23:37:16 Well, Snoop had left, so we went to buy dinner. After not being able to get what I want, and waiting in line for awhile, I finally got my food. I wuz eating it with my friends, and then we heard some guitar! One of my friend's is like, "Tool's on!". So we all ran our asses to the stage. We saw quite a sight. Everyone wuz throwing shit everywhere, and we had to get through. I almost got hit by like fifty bottles, but who gives a shit, tool wuz there! When I first got a look at the stage, this guy with a black mask and a whip (yup, S&M, u guessed it) wuz carrying Maynard on his shoulders. Maynard was wearing a white mask (made from what, I have NO clue), and a bra (which looked extrememly real! Sex change in mind? No rumors please!). He started ta lking about how he wuz having all these mood swings cuz his estrogen levels were real high, and that he'd be better off after the "operation"(again! but remember, tool luvs to trick us!). Then they started up with Forty Six & 2. Justin painted himself blue, and Danny and Adam looked like always. Other highlights were Sober (what a surprise), Eulogy (maybe my fave), and AEnema. Throughout the show they had things showing on these huge TV screens, such as a bunch of guys jumping up and down with their d icks flopping up an down, and elephants doing the horizontal mambo (if u know what I mean), but during AEnema, they showed the actual music video! Overall, they kicked ass, and I wuz surprised that prodigy pretty much equaled them (only cuz they got to headline), so my final thing is, I lost my voice to Tool (from screaming the lyrics), and I lost my body to Prodigy (from dancing so GODDAMN hard!).

Review written by: Hogan Shrum (funnyguy1) Review posted on: 07/30/97 20:16:58 One word: PHENOMENAL! As anyone who has seen TOOL live knows, their show is nothing less than an incredible experience. The lollapalooza show was no exception. In fact, it exceeded their Aenima tour by all means. Tool has reached an all time high with pre-show teasing, kind of like the ear candy present in most of their songs. First came a recording of Bill Hicks, the late comedian that TOOL so strongly supports. Then another recording of Bill singing a jazzy version of Hooker with a Penis, with a little alterations of his own, e.g. "you can stick that funny finger you know where." Then the signature rumble that begun the show on the previous tour along with the stage filling with smoke. On comes Danny, walking very calmly and quietly to one of the coolest drum sets I have ever seen. He was followed by Justin, his body totally dark blue; which incidently caused many MJK fans to mistake the two. Adam appeared out of nowhere...then out came a massive body builder holding the GOD of screeming himself on his shoulders. The music to Hooker began and MJK sang half the song atop his shoulders. What made this show so much more spectacular, was it was so much more artistic. MJK's clothing and make-up said enough. He was dressed in tight black pants and a bra with prosthetic breasts that actually move like they were real. His face was painted somewhat like a mime's, and the fact that he was bald made it look like a real mask. He had a hairpiece attached to the back of his head. They played a great set of tracks that included all of my personal favorites. The set was as follows:Hooker with a Penis, Stinkfist, Eulogy, sober, Forty-six & 2, Crawl Away(which I had never seen live), Pushit, Opiate, and Aenima. The highlights were a revised version of Stinkfist: much longer and much different, a tribute to the hospitalized guitarist from korn followed by a flawless version of Crawl away, and a perfect performace of pushit. As usual, the open minded Maynard had a few funny and sometimes enlightening things to say. The following are the ones that stood out: After fans threw a shoe and several bottles of water on stage during Stinkfist, MJK stopped the song and picked up the shoe saying, "These aren't our size anyway" then through the water into the crowd saying, "and I think we have enough water up here...thanks" An enlightening word or two?: "There was an ecclectic variety of music here today, that many of you would not go and see any other time. I hope you set aside all your musical likes and dislikes, and opened up your mind to all the different styles of music played for you." After the second try at stinkfist, he stated "I'm sorry if I was a little testy earlier, but my estrogen levels are peaking(which went along with his costume) so I am a little moody(an innocent shot at the moody side of women). But that should fade when my operation goes through." That comment was quite humorous. After they concluded with Aenima I was quite pumped. If there is anyone who can put on a great show in music today, it is TOOL. If you haven't seen them before, and even if you have, this show will rise above your expect- ations. See this show no matter the price and no matter what it takes. It's one hell of a rush!!!!

Review written by: Josh Quarles (jquarles@cjnetworks.com) Review posted on: 07/30/97 13:12:55 OK, first off, I'll get the review for Lollapalooza over with. I missed the Marleys, my car was overheating in line at the time. When I walked in, second stage was featuring Angus Gooch - not bad. James didn't impress me. Tricky surprised me, I got in to 3 or 4 songs. Missed Snoop, I was watching Failure, and they were one of the better bands at Lollapalooza. I was let down Korn wasn't there, but I knew they weren't going to be anyway, and some things can't be helped. TOOL was practically flawless, as usual!! This was the fourth time I'd seen them, and they never cease to amaze me. This was the first time I'd been so close to the stage - second row - so I couldn't tell you how sound production was. I still can't hear well today. Maynard, instead of sporting the usual body paint on his body, had the bra and fake ponytail and had his face painted kind of like a mime's. I've never heard a mime sing that loud or that well, though! :) He came out riding the back of th e big gimp-mask-wearing-dude that came out onstage during Hooker With A Penis last fall. He looked like Master Blaster from Mad Max!! Justin was painted blue, and I heard a few people mistake him for Maynard but couldn't figure out why he was playing bass. Maynard, as usual, said a few quotable things onstage: --the normal assholes were throwing shit at the stage, and Maynard stopped Stinkfist just a few measures into the song when people started throwing shoes. "These aren't are size," he explained as he threw them back, "and we have plenty of water, so we don't need any more." This as he was throwing water bottles back to the crowd. --As in other Lollapalooza dates, he 'lit a candle' for Munky of Korn by having the whole crowd scream "YES!" on the count of three in his honor. --He urged the crowd to keep an open mind concerning all the other bands at Lollapalooza, saying they were an "eclectic" mix, and there were a lot of bands there that most of the crowd wouldn't normally go see. --In the pause in Hooker, he 'sold out' by plugging the shirts, boxer shorts, and baseball caps in true salesman style. --He explained that his estrogen levels were high, so he was a little emotional. He also said this should clear up after his operation was completed (see description of Maynard above!) I was really happy to see that they played a few songs that weren't done too often on the aenima tour: Hooker With A Penis (I only saw them play that one near the start of the tour), Crawl Away (I've never seen that one Live!), and Pushit (wasn't played the last time I saw them on aenima). I can't remember the set list in the correct order so I won't even submit it, but it should suffice to say that I was looking forward to Tool all day and they did not let me down. They're great time after time, and they made an otherwise shitty day a lot of fun. Go check them out live at all costs.

Review written by: Dick (chad@discoverynet.com) Review posted on: 07/30/97 12:08:15 OK i'm sitting there second row to the right. right in front of the huge ass building sized speakers. First seat closest to the stage.Excellent seats. Never been that close and had the right to be there. The speaker are crackling with noise. that techno version of third eye i've heard so much about. then some Bill Hicks talking about drugs and kids. bill hicks lounge version of hooker. Then I hear Satan-like voice telling me i'm any and everything i could ever want to be. Then the hum and the fog machines kick in. The smoke box appears on the screen.Enter the band Justin black from waist up.Adam and Danny are normal. Then here comes maynard ride on a Fabio-guy's shoulders. the buff guy has a leather mask with spikes on it and a whip. MJK sings half the song, Hooker with a Penis on the guy's back then he puts him down and he does the little advertising in the middle of the song.Oh yeah MJK had his face painted sort oflike mime The Crow without the cool eyes.and he had the pony tail down to his rear and tight leather pants and these high heels and prosthetic breasts that actually jiggled when he moved. Too Cool.OK then its straight into stinkfist and then 46 and 2. They had to stop stinkfist and start over cause someone threw a bottle on stage and got MJK mad. he told them that they all ready had plenty of water. and before 46and2 he apoligised and said that his mood swings would calm down after the operation went through. Then he said that 46and2 was about suttle changes.ok crawl away,Eulogy, Sober, Pushit, Opiate, Aenema which he announced as enema. Crawl Away and Pushit were high lights. They showed the video for Aenema and had some camels and elephants copulating and what looked like abunch of Jews marching and some african pigmy looking guys and a bunch of space out designs. THE BEST CONCERT THE MOST MOVING MOMENT OF MY LIFE.

Review written by: Master Reviewer (melerb@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/30/97 11:18:59 After spending most of the first couple of songs watching the crowd behind me and dodging full bottles, I was able to really get into the concert. Very, very, very, POWERFUL.

Review written by: Brandon (singed1@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/30/97 05:00:35 Tool, Tool, Tool where the hell do you begin? What a show! After Being assulted with what seamed like four days of biioootch, The smoke box finally appeared accompanied by the low bass hum, it didn't last as long as it normally did before Adam, Danny, and Justin took the stage. Adam And Danny Looked pretty normal and Justin was Painted all Black or real dark blue. Then Something i'd never heard of happened, when Maynard came out he was not alone. But instead he was riding on the shoulders of this hercules looking mother fucker. The dude had a whip and a leather mask on his face. Maynard Was dressed in tight pants platform shoes with his face painted white, and a real long pony tail. He Sang All of "hooker with a penis" while on his Shoulders. Then he introduced him as something West. The guy then flexed his pecks and left. Other memorable moments were, Crawl Away for Munky from korn, And Pushit with a cool intro. The set list was as follows Hooker w/ a penis Stinkfist 46&2 Crawl Away Eulogy Sober Pushit Opiate Aenema This Show Was Awsome, Tool Was Intense. Very Cool. And one other item of intrest, the music they played before tool came on was a techno version of third eye, a real electronic version of die unter von satan, and a great lounge version of hooker with a penis. If anybody knows what the hell this was please let me know who you have to blo to get a copy.
