Review written by: Mike Schmidt (mateo@doitnow.com) Review posted on: 08/10/97 00:38:46 I've waited all summer for Lollapalooza, and the day finally arrived. We got to Desert Sky about an hour before the first band, Failure, was to play. Right away, my summer was completed when I went to some tent and saw Adam. Me playing guitar he would be the member of tool I would most like to meet. I walked up to him introduced myself, shook his hand., and then I was speechless, I, at a loss of words, finally said, "you're the bomb". He laughed and said thanks. I could tell he thought I was an ass. I wish it would happen again, I had so many things to say to him. I didn't even have myself together to ask for him to sign my ticket or something like that. The very first song Failure played was awesome, after that they weren't so great. I didn't watch the Marleys. James was really good. Snoop ripped up the stage. I thought tricky would go next, but they didn't even play. I could tell by looking at the big-ass drumset that the greatest band in the whole world would play next. I got really close and waited for them to come on. the stereo played Bill Hicks jokes while their crew set up. Finally they came on. Maynard had on a bra and his boobs looked real. His face was painted white and he had on an afro wig and he looked exactly like my vice-principal. They appropriately started off with hooker with a penis. At the middle of the song where the band stops and it was quiet, Maynard said, "Shirts, hats, and baby T's all for sale right there" and pointed at the merchaindise stand. They then played Stinkfist, 46&2, Crawl Away,Eulogy, and the he dedicated "H" to his son (happy 2nd Devo!), they then played No Quarter, it was worlds better than Zeppelin's, Tool's version of the song is now my favorite song ever, it was beautiful, and when it was over I felt like crying. Then Sober, Opiate, and nema. Maynard then siad "Thank you Arizona" and left the stage. I had just witnessed the most intense set ever played by a band. I really wanted them to play Pushit and 4 Degrees. I should have went home right there but I didn't. I stuck around and chanted "Bring on the Bullshit!" And they did bring it on, they brought on in the form of Prodigy. No one deserves to go on after Tool. I dont understand why anyone would want to. I would have paid the thirty dollars just to see tool. I would have paid more. Tool is the most touching music of my time. If any of the members of Tool are reading this, I just want to say "Thank You"

Yes I went to see tool and I still can't believe they played No Quarter that was one of the most awesome performances I have ever seen It has taken the place of pink floyd in my list of all mighty concerts I watched tool in complete awe simply amazing I thought to myself hey here is a good reason to be alive. to see tool over and over again so if you haven't seen tool live then you are missing out on something magical what a great show what a great band

Review written by: KriS (JRoenick@aol.com) Review posted on: 08/07/97 21:30:05 Damn,TOOL has such great stage presence they blow away all of the other bands on lollapaloser Tool sounded okay not as good as the Mesa ampetheater show but they made it worth the money for the ticket esp. their cover of no quarter that was just amazing adam did a great job putting the organ parts together on guitar it was unbelievable go see it for your self Tool is simply a cure for all of that lame music you hear on the radio and see on the shelves of your music stores. well it was a great show I do wish they would of have played 3RD eye but I guess you can't get too picky!

Review written by: Reid Elledge (elledge@c2i2.com) Review posted on: 08/07/97 20:29:47 I thought TOOL was absolutely awsome. Their songs were loud and got the crowd pretty worked up. The thing I loved the most was those freaky backgrounds that were going on behind them. One question, were Maynard's boob's real?

Review written by: TROY (tra@u.arizona.edu) Review posted on: 08/07/97 18:23:58 Where to begin, hmmmm. This was the third time I've seen Tool, who I think it is safe to say have become my favorite band. I can only begin by giving you the set list, in order: Hooker Stinkfist Forty Six & 2 Crawl Away Eulogy H Sober No Quarter Opiate Aenima I am still trying to make sense of it all. No matter how many times I see them it is still like the first. No Quarter is an experience in itself. It was the second time I've seen it, and this time it was minutes longer than last. It was like a daydream that gently takes you to a different level of conciousness, slowly drifting back and forth like a breeze through the pines, and then when over you notice that you're still where you were before, but you know something magical just happened. It's not meant for words to describe. Stinkfist broke off halfway through, right after a chilling wail of "...if I really don't feel a thing at all", into an incredible solo, and then back. I can still feel the chill that went down my spine like cool blue water. Which brings me to the only thing that truly upsets me. They didn't play FLOOD!!! Far and away my favorite Tool song. It was incredible the last time I saw it. But I guess it was not meant to be. The rest of the set was brilliant, though surprisingly short. I thought since Tricky and Korn canceled that they would play a much longer set. Some other songs were omitted that I know they've been playing: Undertow, 4 degrees, Swamp Song, and Third Eye. All in all, I am reeling from last night. I paid $45 all said, I would have payed $100 or more _just to see Tool_.

Review written by: Akbar Bilanawas (.....................) Review posted on: 08/07/97 07:24:42 Well. This was for sure not a letdown. You have read the same thing about every tool show on this tour and that is that they kick ass and all the other bands suck. This is quite accurate. I made good timing in getting there just as snoop dog was ending. He actually wasn't bad. :> TOOL was awesome. The setlist was coordinated with all the other ones I have seen posted here. But no Third Eye. No quarter i suppose replaced that. That song is forver , I think prob. longer than third eye. Tool was all i really wanted to see and most likely all that was worth seeing, also saved myself a day in the scorching heat of phoenix. One question though. Maynard has been known (this sucks because it shows some sort of over commercialized attitude towards the music) to say "this is our last song...................................from our first album , before they play opiate. tonight he said that as they began to play crawl away. dont get it. maybe he fucked up. or theres something i dont know.

Review written by: Ken (kbai@ix.netcom.com) Review posted on: 08/07/97 01:39:49 Well let me just start be saying "WE GOT NO QUARTER!!!" I went to the show only wanting to see TOOL and sat through JAMES and ended up liking them enough of that on to TOOL. MJK came out in tight purple and white go-go pants a red bra inserted with tits and a brown afro style wig and face painted white. I dont remember the line up but I do know that this wasn't Lallapalooza it was TOOL on tour with a bunch of opening bands!!! The show was even better than when I saw them at Mesa Amp. what more can I say but WOW!!!! go see LallapaTOOLza when it comes to your town!!!!!!
