Well, what can I say. Nothing really, I cannot think of words that can describe how incredible of an experience going to a Tool show seriously is. To all of those unfortunate people that did not get the chance to see these guys, I am sorry, I really am. The Phoenix crowd was great from my perspective. Maynard seemed to be really into the music, full of energy. Adam and Justin did not really move at all, and Danny was going crazy as ever, sounding brilliant to say the least. I was not dissapointed in any aspect of the show at all. Every single song was a blessing to hear, and there is no way I can complain about anything left out in the set. Anyways, I hope everyone at the show felt the same magic that I felt tonight, and that you never forget the sights and sounds these artists created because I promise you there will never be another show you'll see quite like that. Spiral Out

I must say I was expecting a shorter show due to the fact that they had an opening act (Tricky), but they did not disapoint. A few highlights of the show were Hawk of Tricky joining to sing, the most beautiful intro to Pushit, Tricky joining in to sing then hugging all the band members. At the end of the show, the band memebers met at the front of the stage for a group hug. I was deeply moved by this show, and will carry the feelings of joy with me for quite a while. A great big THANK YOU goes out to Maynard, Adam, Danny, Justin, and everyone who made this show possible.

I'll try to keep this short. So much to say, though... Anyway, I know that the setlist is already up, but since it's slightly incorrect, I don't feel so bad about going through it again. In a moment, that is. Tricky was...well...interesting. There were parts of the set that I really enjoyed and parts that I had a hard time sitting through. I respect him and his music, but it's just not for me. So be it. Big surprise came when the Gilbert High School drum line came on and played a medley of "Eulogy" and "46&2." Totally awesome. It was crazy. Made me wonder why I frittered away my high school years without doing something of this kind. That said, on to Tool. The Grudge - In my opinion, one of the best songs they've ever written. Great performance. Unfortunately, the sound guys gave them a pretty bad mix for this song. The sound problems really didn't get completely fixed until "Parabola." Stinkfist - Slightly better sound, amazing performance. The extended bridge was awesome. 46&2 - Was hoping for "Undertow," but I have nothing to complain about here. Danny reaffirmed his status as god. I swear, I could have spent the entire concert just watching HIM. Parabola - No "Parabol?" Oh well. Sound problems finally fixed. Song flat out rocked. Pushit (Salival) - Perhaps my favorite Tool song. I don't have the words to describe the beauty. Schism - Very cool. Crowd loved it. Disposition - Hypnotic, beautiful... Reflection - Not sure how I feel about the extra vocals from Tricky, but the rest of the song was as wonderful as I knew it would be. Intermission Triad - WOW. Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient - One of my favorites from Lateralus. Awesome performance. Maynard showing off the beauty of his voice. Opiate - I thought that the show would feel incomplete without "Aenema," but I was quite wrong. "Opiate" was one of the highlights of the show. It rocked so fucking much, it made me forget about "Aenema." Lateralus - One of those songs (like "Third Eye") where they impress me simply by being able to reproduce it live. Totally awesome. Maynard gave his usual speech. The contortionists added their usual...um...performance to the show. The visuals were absolutely unbelievable. This was my first Tool show, and I now definitely look forward to seeing them again. Hope everyone else enjoyed the show.

The last time I saw TOOL was in '98 at the Phoenix Civic Plaza with The Melvins opening. And that was the best concert I had ever been to until this one. Adam Justin and Danny never miss a note. I don't know what it is about TOOL but for some reason they are so mezmorizing and you can't descibe it. Both contortionists were here doing misc. contortionists things one of which was done on ropes during reflection, (think about it). I have also never seen visuals like that in mh life, no matter what substance you're on. And Maynard completely made my day when he asked people to open thier hearts to Tricky, and then played Opiate. TOOL is the leader and we are the followers and should all listen to Tricky. OH and bye the bye I thought Tricky did a great a great job and everybody's going to cry when they realize that it was pretty good and that Tricky doesn't ever tour. But until next time, thank you TOOL - job well done.

This was this reviewer's ???? Tool show

The Show was awsome. No complantes not even about the sound. The local high school band thing was a great highlight. Why? I love the colaboration between the different artist. The instructor of that group should get mass cuttos. I'm shure that was the largest croud that band ever played for and the audience was chearing for them all the way. I'm shure durring football games and what not , no ones chearing and getting into what the band is doing. This was a great opportunity for them to shine and they did. Wasn't that adam playing w/ trickey. I beleive it was. I too could have lived without ticky during reflection but the other songs w/ him were good. I loved how when trickey was playing everyone was booing them and chanting "TOOL, TOOL!!!" and not giving trickey a chance. and when MJK asked if everyone gave trickey the same love as tool, everyone cheared. ummm. Keep up the good work boy's looking forward to the Lateralis video. love that song, love all teh songs.

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

First of all, Tool is fucking amazing. I'm thrilled, amazed, dazed, and euphoric because I had the chance to see them for the second time on this tour. I saw the Mansfield (Tweeter Center) Mass. concert, and frankly, Tweeter Center sucks so much that I didn't enjoy it all that much. Not to mention the fact that it rains in September in Mass, and I got pretty damn wet. And was sitting all the way on the back wall of the lawn section, too far over to stage right to see much of anything. The bass was too loud. Etc., etc. You can go read reviews for that show, I won't get into it anymore. ;) I'm from Vermont, out visiting my best friend at ASU... I scheduled my visit around the Phoenix date, just in case we'd have time/tickets and be able to go.. turns out we did. Oh, happy day. It took a miracle to get there, as it's about 20 miles away or so, and she doesn't have a car, but we made it with a borrowed vehicle. (THANK YOU MICHELE!) We got there at about 6:00, the lawn was hardly full at all. Due to a (very good) tip about where to stand if you have lawn seats, we went to the exact center, all the way to the front of the lawn, up against the fence. At that point not many people were there, just a few milling around. The place didn't really get very full until a few minutes before Tricky played. Tricky was good. I'm not sure if I really liked it personally or not, but they were pretty tight, and it was definately new and intriguing. It was a sort of hip hop/metal/techno thing, very hard to describe, but not too bad to listen to. I try to keep an open mind about music that I haven't heard before, which is a bit difficult at times, but Tricky was pretty decent. I'm not sure if I'd buy their cd, but I'd probably listen to it if I had it available. I definatly enjoyed them more than Fantomas; they were technically good, just not even close to what I want to be listening to. Anyway, there were only a few morons that I could hear yelling for Tricky to get off the stage, that "we want tool!", and "you suck!" Fucking idiots.. First of all, they can't hear you. Second, even if they could, they're not going to listen to you. And third, it's sort of like being a kid again. You've got to eat your vegetables before you can have dessert. And Jesus H. Christ, what a fucking dessert it was. Worth every second of waiting, ever moment of my feet aching in my boots, of hurting eardrums. (in retrospect, I should have brought earplugs from home, as I couldn't figure out where to get any out here.) Tricky had a couple of interesting songs... I liked the ones with the girl singing in them the best. I'm not much of a rapping fan, and her voice was very interesting. Once Tricky had left the stage (I think they played six songs or so), people began setting up for Tool... I was amazed, they actually tested the equipment, and the sound, and the mics, everything! Really cool. Probably why the sound was as good as it was, even if the bass was a little high for the first couple of songs. Then they started bringing in a ton of chimes and little drum sets (congas or bongos or something.. sorry, I'm not a drummer and I didn't have my glasses), and then about 20 people wearing the same black tank top sort of outfit came out, and started playing a drum line version of Eulogy and 46 & 2. It was fucking amazing! Apparently it's the drumline from some local high school, I'm pretty sure someone has already posted a review saying which one. Holy shit. They were incredible.. so fucking tight. I have got to wonder just how exactly they got the opportunity to play with Tool. Wow. Awesome work, guys. Or girls. Or both, I couldn't really tell. Okay, so the rest of the concert was fucking incredible. As soon as Tool came out, about a zillion people rushed the fence, and a lot of them actually made it over. Of course, this was sort of like standing outside in a hurricane, or something to that effect... people streaming over you, trying to climb a slippery steel fence. Jesus. I was happy just where I was, thanks. (and I didn't run the risk of getting thrown out for gaining just a couple of feet closer to the stage) I think there were some guys from ASU, I saw them in the elevator, they were probably in that crowd.. they'd told us on the way out that that's what they were planning. Ha. It was almost amusing, watching these idiots with cups of beer trying to climb a fence. What can I say about the rest of it? Amazing. Every moment my whole body was throbbing with the beat, and I screamed until my throat hurt. Sure, there were assholes in front of me, standing on the fucking seats so that no one behind them could see (one girl in partiular was a bitch about it, so here's a "fuck you" to her... not that she'd be reading this, she didn't seem to even like the show or Tool), there were assholes behind me who would push, slosh beer around (I screamed at someone not to spill beer on me, and he didn't... guess that was a good thing), start mosh pits, yell to play songs that they wanted to hear (who gives a flying fuck what you want to hear? I want to hear what Tool wants to play. I'm sure they have their reasons for choosing their setlist, so I'm perfectly content to leave it up to them. Aww, you didn't get to hear Aenima? Poor baby. Go out to your car and listen to the cd.) Over all, it was the most fucking amazing thing I've done.. well, pretty much ever. It was about a thousand times better than Tweeter Center, and I could actually SEE the contortionists, who were incredible! They climbed the rope backwards, I couldn't believe it. You've got my full respect and amazement. The last song was Lateralus... I forget what the last song was at the other show, but this was an absolutely amazing way to end a show. I was just filled with the sound, they were so tight. Unbelievable. Just amazing. Go see Tool. If I could, i'd go to San Diego and see them tomorrow. I have no way to get there, however, and I definately can't afford to see Tool again for a while! On the way out, we discovered that Michele's car had a flat tire... a very nice guy jumped out of his car and told us, or I'd probably have made it to the highway without noticing, as I wasn't used to how the car handled. So we went up to some people who looked like they were in charge, and a guy told us to go and wait for him. He came about 15 minutes later. Turns out he's the VIP events coordinator, and told me to call him next time I'm in town, he'll give me VIP passes. Sweet! Thanks man. Not to mention the fact that he, with the help of a nice young man, who looked like a Toolhead but in fact liked Enya, changed the tire to the spare and chatted with me amiably while they did it. You two were awesome, thanks a bunch. :) But nothing could ruin my high from this show. I could see the stage! I could see Maynard and Danny and everyone! (oh, and I think it was Danny's nephew who played some extra drums during one of the songs.. I've forgotten which one. Maynard thanked him, introduced him, and said, "we've created a monster." Heh.) You're all amazing. Thanks to the sound technicians who actually DID SOMETHING... you should go work for the Tweeter Center. Or at least go show those retards how things are done. Sound... such beautiful sound... granted, my ears hurt. But it's my own damn fault, and the sound was so good I didn't notice my ears were a bit foggy until after the show, when everyone talking just sounded a bit like a dull roar. Oh well. They're getting better already. So thank you, everyone who had anything to do with getting me to this show. It was fucking amazing. And I'm glad I gave Tricky a try. You should too. Just open your mind and your heart, as Maynard put it (I'm paraphrasing somewhat). Just ask yourself.. hey... did I like Tool when I first heard them? All their stuff? Just give it a try. And relax. If you don't like them, shut up about it. No one wants to hear "FUCKING TOOL! YEAHHHHH!!!" yelled in their ear, especially not me. (Feel lucky, whoever did that, that you didn't do it again, or you'd have likely gotten a three inch heel in a place you wouldn't enjoy it.) Thanks for sharing a great evening with me, anyone who was there. It was quite an experience. And remember to go out and do something positive with this feeling. I think that's some rather good advice, considering the state of the world. Don't you? Fucking amazing. Thank you Tool!

this was my first tool concert...i was totally blown away!! highlights include: gilbert high school's take on eulogy and 46&2. they did an awesome job. osseus labyrint's performance was just amazing...especially when they did the "horse thing" (i have no idea what to name it) and when they hung upside down during triad. speaking of triad, the whole disposition/reflection/triad part of the show blew my mind away! the best part of the concert, for sure. and i think it should be mentioned that the crowd was great, and they seemed really into the concert. good job phoenix!! later all, and thank you tool!

I saw Tool in San Diego earlier this year, and that show was far superior to this one. I very much dislike Tricky and having them contaminate Opiate and Reflection was mildly irritating. It was cool seeing Adam's nephew playing on Triad, however. I only saw four songs that I did not see in San Diego: The Patient, Pushit (Salival), Triad and Opiate. But the Patient and the Salival version of Pushit were two of the songs I wanted to see most. This show sucked because: a. The sound was bad b. 99% of the people there were fucking idiots c. Tricky. But regardless, Tool still put on a great show, because they are a great band.

This was this reviewer's 1st? Tool show

First of all, let me say if you haven't seen them yet, this band MUST be experienced live. The musicianship of Danny, Justin, Adam and Maynard is simply beautiful. This was worth every penny (ticketmaster and their jerkoff service charges can suck my ass, though). This is gonna be long, but the show was worth it. PERFECT weather! Tricky was Ok. There was WAY too much bass in his set. I read a review earlier this month that chimed the same thing. I never heard his stuff, but tricky reminded me of Pridigy. It was pretty cool seeing house-music PERFORMED by a BAND and not a machine. They assault, no, more like mindfuck your senses. They weren't bad, but Tricky could have shown his face to the crowd. I imagine someone pissed him off. I couldn't make out what he said, something about being a pussy, I think. Anyway, after he was done, stage staff started wheeling xylophones, chimes, and other timpani, which I can't identify out on stage. I was like, what the hell is this? These high- schoolers come out and take their positions at their instruments and play the intro to Eulogy on the xylophones. I thought I was dreaming until the drum corps started hammering away. These guys were freakin' AWESOME. They 10-minute set went from Eulogy to 46&2 flawlessly. It was a beautiful transition and whoever conducted this did an extraordinary job. I wonder how they got the OK to perform this. Maynard had to have gotten wind of them and heard this somehow, because you don't just invite a HS drum corps to play at your concert unless they're damn good. That was a treat. The crowd was not a bunch of drunken rednecks and frat boys as described in the shows of the last 6 weeks. I was in 202, 4 rows up and those were pretty good seats, but most of the people around me were cool. Can't speak for the pit or the lawn, but I will say that every crowd I've been around in any Phoenix concert was cool. Now on to TOOL! The Grudge is such a kick-ass opener. Was it me or was the sound a tad bit distorted? Danny Carey is the best drummer on the planet. Stinkfist's extended version is great. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference as everyone in other cities raved about, but it did. The house really went bonkers during this. They should have played another 2 minutes of it. Danny Carey is the best drummer on the planet. I was glad to hear 46&2. I thought maybe since the drum corps did that song, that Tool wasn't going to, but they came thru. When the whole crowd belted, "MY SHADOW...", I had goose bumps. Danny Carey is the best drummer on the planet. Maynard was so animated. I am glad he had a good rapport with the fans, even if he didn't say a whole lot. We love him (hell, I heard some people PRAY to him), but he should leave his fucking pants on, though. My girlfriend swears he's an alien. He's more like a shaman. I had hoped Parabol would have been played, but they burst right into Parabola and if you're not moving to that song, you have no pulse. The visuals and music were mindblowing. Danny Carey is the best drummer on the planet. Pushit was great, and the hearing the last 2-3 minutes of it live does not even compare to the DVD. Danny Carey is the best drummer on the planet. Adam was ON all night and getting better as the night went on. I was in awe all evening. Schism. The folks at this show were not just there to hear this song. It definitely exceeded my expectations, everyone. Some moron was there in a Santa suit. No comment necessary. Osseus Labyrint are UNBELIEVABLE. People who can do such wild things with their bodies are amazing. And this was just the walk from the video. Later on... holy shit! In Disposition and Reflection, some people in the seats sat thru these. Danny Carey is the best drummer on the planet. It wasn't necessary to have Tricky out there, but he and the band have tremendous respect for each other, so who am I to question Maynard? After these tunes, the harness was being lowered in back of the stage. Osseus Labyrint got on there and were raised to the pavillion's ceiling. To make a long story short, Mike and Hannah spent a good 10-12 minutes hanging by their ankles about 30 feet up in the air. The writhing and twisting they do while hanging by their ankles while SPINNING was astounding. How they don't get dizzy, I have no idea. And how can they tolerate the blood rush??? The Gilbert HS drum corps were seated on the right side of the stage. What a night for them!!! The band retuned for Triad, which I felt was the highlight of the show. Danny Carey is the best drummer on the planet. He was joined by Tricky's drummer and they just exploded out there. I'm partial to percussion and this was a masterpiece. This was an incredible jam. Maynard said (referring to Tricky's drummer), "I think we created a monster". At this point, a heard a girl down row DD yell, "I love my life!". Maynard was practicing what he preaches, taking the feelings and doing something positive. The Patient. I was happy to hear this, as the song hits close to home, reminding me of my battle with MS. Ah, yes, Maynard, what more can you say about his angelic voice? Danny Carey is the best drummer on the planet. I knew Opiate or Aenima would follow. I was hoping for the latter; it's my favorte Tool song, but I was amazed at how the crowed erupted when Opiate began. A lot of the Phoenix crowd is OGT. Danny Carey is the best drummer on the planet. Lateralus. Classic. I knew the show was coming to an end (these reviews spoil me), I wished the concert was an hour longer. Maynard was completely into it. His pouncing and stomping got everyone moving. I'm glad we didn't get the cold shoulder from him like at a handful of other shows. The group hug was there at the end and the whole place left with good feelings. The whole evening was something to behold. Great job, Maynard, Justin, Danny and Adam, come back again! Great job, Phoenix! We all rule!!! GO DIAMONDBACKS! Spiral out...

This was this reviewer's 1st? Tool show

Heh where to start off.... Well I went with a few friends, kind of funny one of them didn't get tickets with us. He got one off a friend of his from school and ended up one seat over from us. Anyway we where in the back row, last seating spot before the lawn. Anyway we got there when Tricky was half way done with there set. My friends really couldn't get into Tricky, I couldn't however one or two of the songs sounded like music to play to Quake or something. Anyway Tricky ended around 8:15. About 10 to 15 mins later the Gilbert High School drum line started playing with Justin. I have to say it was damn good, and I wish back when I was at high school, that our drum line played Tool songs. Eulogy and 46&2 sounded good with them doing it. Anyhow before long Tool came on. As for the songs, The Grudge, Ok I really wanted Intolerance to be the opening song. However this kicked ass, not only live but for an opening song. There was something wrong with the sound, however IMHO it sounded great, and also IMHO was one of the best songs at the show. However when the song was going on (And as I said my friends and myself where in the last row) the 'pit' had to get going. Look I'm 22, and yeah the pit was fine back in my day (Yes I know I'm sounding old). However jumping all over are seats, sucker punching, kicking my friends girlfriend in the back of the head, ISN'T fine. Sorry it's a Tool show, not Gwar guys. Stinkfist, Tho at this point the 'pit' in back of us had everyone from the lawn jumping onto are seats (And landing on us..) It was a good live song. I alwas wanted to hear it live, and everyone really got into it. 46&2, Damn fine song live. We really got into it, by this time the weed was really going around so the pit started to die out. (Note:Mike did way too much weed back in the day so he doesn't do it anymore). Had an old friend fall into my lap (I joke not. And I do mean 'fall' into my lap...). Still Maynard sounded great for this song, And I think this is when he took his pants off. Then again I was trying to get my old drunken friend off me, so it could have been the next one. Parabola, The pit died down at this point. I guess why do the pit when there's a nice song to get stoned to. Pushit, Good song. At this point I really wanted to hear Eulogy or H. Schism, Heh I was betting they would have Schism in there somewhere. They had the contortionists walking around on all 4's. I got into it, my friends got into it and well everyone got into it. I'll say this much, it sounded good live. The Intermission, By this time everyone in the world was jumping around in back of us. I think they started a nice fire too. Triad, Ok I was kinda split on this. It was great, however it just dragged on a little too long. The Patient, Damn fine job on this song. It was lovely, like moving art almost. Opiate, HELL YES! This is what I came to see and hear! Maynard yell about god and all that fun stuff. Great goddamn job on the song. Everyone got into it, hell there wasn't even a pit for this song. Lateralus, I really didn't think it would sound like Lateralus off the cd, however they pulled it off really well. Well the show it's self was good. Tricky did one or two songs with the band (Sorry everyone but Tricky could grow on me). The videos they where showing in the songs where just cool. However everyone I just want to get this out, this is Tool. I didn't come to have some 17 year old punk coming out of the pit looking to start a fight to look like a big man. I came to hear a band I love. If you want to start a pit? Fine don't do it by the seats. Want to get down to the stage? Don't jump over seats and on someone to get down there *Is a little upset that his friend got kicked in the head over this*. I mean I can understand alot of it, however remember we all payed money to see a damn good show. And it's stuff like this that makes me not want to go see a bad live. Anyway I'd give my first live Tool show 5 stars. I still wish they did Eulogy or H. But well can't have everything. And even with the kiddies in the back I had fun.

WOW!!!! Another Amazing Show... These Guys Never Disapoint... Someone in the band has a Nephew that goes to Gilbert High, So we got to see the GHS Band Perform instead of the Comedy Show... They Rocked the place... Pretty much got the crowd ready for Tool... I have never seen "Desert Sky" that full... The Mood inside was great - Very Chill Very Cool... Lots of Puffin'... That New Drum Set of Danny's sounds so amazing or maybe it was just him... But there was something Magikal coming from it... Maynard seemed to be really into the musik, did not say much to the crowd... Just the usual "Take the feeling home". Oh and he was playing a few cords on that Guitar... And what can I say about Justin & Adam - Perfect as always, A relentless Performance. Hope you all had a great time. Later, CronDivx F.O.D Live By The Square

Okay, so... - Tricky- Was okay, but I couldn't get into was essentially was turning out to be a "rock-rap" outfit. It just got a little overboard at times, although the more "trip-hop" stuff was better in my opinion. - Tool- Excellent as expected, but something was off with the sound for a bit. Surprisingly, I thought the vocals were a bit high in the mix...when usually they are the quietest.... Adam looked at a girl taking her clothes off, and stared for a good minute while he played Opiate... The rest of the band went through their usual routine banging out note by note with Tool precision. I thought they seemed kinda "eh, let's get this over with" but maybe that's me. Maynard was into it, for a bit it seemed. But everyone on stage seemed like they had something else on the mind. Maybe not. I guess it doesn't matter since they did ultimately rock well. Crowd- Horrible, I've never EVER "experienced" so many assholes. I had tickets that were VERY decent, right up at the front. People rushed the front from the back and just started filing in the seated area. Made it VERY hard to concetrate on the music, etc. This got really bad when Tool started jammin' out the aenema songs at the beginning of the set. Unfortunately, those are the ones I remember least. I was about ready to give up and leave at the begining. Overall- A great show. I've seen Tool more into it. So seeing them like this was a bit of a letdown. But they were on and didn't faulter at all in their performance. Maynard's voice sounded different, the songs played a step higher maybe? I dunno, maybe he just sings that way live now. It sounded good, but it was more "tinny" than usual. Still powerful though, and perfect. That's all, you've seen the setlist by now.

I will not further bore people with the same details but I do have a quick personal note about last night's spell casting by TOOL. Quick note: The concert was amazing and magical. But I truly enjoyed the presence of two people who were flanking me on opposite sides who had never seen TOOL live. This made my evening so much better as I saw their faces light up with cosmic joy. It really put in perspective what a truly, FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE experience it is to see TOOL live! They are a MUST SEE...

SO, you all know the setlist. I enjoyed the concert from my decent lawn seat. I saw Tool from the real seats up front back in 97 and havent been able to get good seats since, it might be a good thing though that all I could see was the graphics and feel the music. Drunk guys all around me yelling for SOber really pissed me off. And all the people booing Tricky, isnt it obvious that Tool enjoys their music? So why boo them? People are dumber than I thought. All in all Tool has seemed more into their concerts before, but they still rocked. I just wish Maynard would interact a bit more.

Wow, what a great show. I wasn't too impressed with Tricky though. Their lighting was way to dark and you couldn't see them at all, which I think distracted from their music. The drum line that came on right before Tool was great though. By playing clips from Eulogy and other songs, they got the crowd all riled up. What to say about Tool? I can't even describe them. The videos they had playing were quite interesting, as well as the performers walking around stage and dangling upside down. Then there is the music. It was just amazing. Although I wish they had played Eulogy, they still had a great line-up of songs. And of course, they ended with Lateralus. It is the perfect song to end on after an outstanding show. I wouls say this is the best concert I have ever been to and I'll hopefull get to see Tool perform again.

This show blew me the fuck away. I wish I would have had some major hallucinogins but hey, weed rules too! I just wanted to say the Tricky rocked and anyone that didn't think so should have just shut up and not ruined it for everyone. Open your mind you insensitive bastards. I hadn't heard them before but I have heard of them.. They rocked. The school band was by far the highlight. Tool rocked but those kids were damn good :) Tool was BADASS! They had a little bit of a different set from when I saw them in san diego in august. I wasn't expecting anything different so I was surprised when they graced me with Opiate, The Patient, and triad though. All three great songs. I took someone who wasn't quite a Tool fan beforehand but now I definitely think she will be. It was awesome to hear her yack about it in the car ride home afterwords. Today its off to San Diego to see them there and then on the 9th to see them in Hawaii. Peace All

Stellar, the only word befitting of the magic I saw last night on stage. (Wish I could say the same for arizona's trademarked "butt rockers society".) My bruises have bruises, but it was worth it to see the quantum physics that was displayed on stage...Tricky was excellent, and I was very glad to see that the applause out numbered the asses. Tool totally shocked everyone when the started the show with a local highschool's (Gilbert, I believe) drum line, those kids were amazing and I am sure that will rank up there as a highlight of all of their lives...that set the stage with admiration for the band. Those kids were so happy. it was awesome. I could see through the curtain Dannys' big beeming smile! Tool came out right after and lit up the night with there music and magick. They played all my favorite songs (opiate, patient, 46&2) My only regret was for all my hard work and effort, the tallisman I painted and held in the mosh pit for most of the concert was never giving to the band. (most of my bruises came from that). I just know if any of them had seen it (especially danny) they would have really enjoyed it. I will just have to save it for next time.. Anyway they ended with the trade marked lateralus and one of the most loving display of brotherhood I have every had the honor of witnessing. Thank you to Tricky, Phoenix (everyone excluding the "Butt Rockers Society") and Most Of All TOOL, for sharing that beautiful awakening, moment of unity, and artistic flame that warmed all our souls that night and forever!

Money well spent. Gilbert High percussion was great. The "walkers" during schism were amazing, as they were hanging from the rafters. Of course, the band was the sell. How could you not have amazing feelings after a show like that and remember them. Joe, Hawk, and Tricky were wonderful add-ins. You really have to enjoy your songs to play them as long as they have and still play with the energy they do. TOOL really knows how to be creative and change things up. Thank you for playing push-it. Live on the album is not like live....live. Their concerts never disappoint. Come back soon.

I've been a die-hard fan of TOOL for years, but have never gotten a chance to see them play live... my expectations were completely diminished, the show was far better than what i was expecting. The stage was set up with Danny's amazing drum set to the right , justin below him and to the right a bit, adam on the opposite side of him, and maynard above adam in front of a large screen that was just below 2 enormous screens. At first I was surprised that none of the members were dancing around or doing som'n to express the music, especially maynard. But then i thought how genuise! drawing attention away from the music is exactly opposite of what Tool is about. Well onto the show itself... i don't mean to sound redundent but it was simply amazing!!!! i've never experienced anything like this before. The pictures being shown on the screens enhanced how i looked at every song, particulary Reflection, Triad, and Lateralus. The visual and the audio collided with such force that my other senses seemed to disappear and left me with such energy and positivism flowing from me and all around me. well here's the playlist.... the intro to Eulogy ...played by a local HS drumline the Grudge..which just made the crowd explode with engery stinkfist....with some new lyrics and bridge 46 and 2... the crowd really got into this one aswell Parabol intro no words Parabola Pushit Salival version...this was a masterpiece!! Schism...as you could expect the crowd went wild for this one too, especially when Osseus Labrynt came out Disposition... was a neccessary to calm and refocus Reflection... with one of the most amazing shows onthe scren Triad... i never really enjoyed this song before last night, but it was amazing! especially with the actors moving moving around from 30 or so feet above the air UPSIDE DOWN!!!! the Patient a spectacular performance of Opiate..yes the crowd went wild! and ending it all with an amazing job on Laterlalus One of the greatest moments was when Maynard talked to the audience i believe before Lateralus . "I hope we've served as a catilyst for ur viewing, and i hope u can take this energy and use it to go create something positive in the upcomming weeks" there was more and those aren't exact words but u see his point nonetheless... at the end the members all met in the center and had a group hug for half a minute or so, and it hit me...these guys ,amazing as they are, are not gods on earth...they are like me and you...amazing.....a life changing experience! one of the greatest nights of my life...

Great show! I haven't seen Tool since like '92 or '93 when they came here for Lollapalooza 3. I was in the military for 6 years and I was unable to see them. Well, they certainly didn't let me down this time. Gilbert High School Drum Core came onstage and played what I think to be two Tool songs off of the AEnima album... they were really good. Shortly thereafter, Tool came on and gave an outstanding performance. Yeah, I was kind of let down that they didn't play any of there early stuff with exception of one song off of the Opiate CD. BUT... they still kicked ass! I don't care what anyone says. It was even nice to see Tricky come onstage and perform with Tool... and Adams nephew definitely did not detract from the concert.

Highlights: The Gilbert High School Band....Amazing....Myself and the people next to me were beside ourselves with delight. Props to those kids for keeping their cool for such a huge audience Contortionists: Were absolutely beautiful...I recognized the female performer walking around before the show in clothes....very cool Tricky: I am a Tricky fan and was impressed with the energy of their performance....the female vocalist had a beautiful voice but her vocals weren't loud enough in my opinion...Tricky has a powerful stage presence and was a treat to see Tool:Completely exceeded my expectations.....The energy the precision of the delivery....everything was mindblowing.... The only trivial complaint i had was that I felt that triad was a bit lengthy but hey...at least we had something interesting to look at :) My favorites were THe Grudge:Goddamn This song gave me goosebumps Schizm: The contortionists really put this xperience over the top.....I was watching the video noticing how it differed from the one I downloaded and was suprised and delighted to see the contortionists right on stage!! I just hope i didn't miss too much of it while I was sucked into the video Opiate:This song pushed it over the top for me as well....I hadn't even ventured to hope they'd place this one so I was even more unprepared for the emotion this song evokes Crowd: Mostly cool except some rude bastards that insisted on standing on the seats and diminishing the experience for those behind them....Also I will remark that there definitely was some serious dope smoking going on :) Seriously impressed by my first Tool show....It sets a tough standard..

Osseus Labrynt was awesome as they suspended themselves from the screens and entertained the crowd during the short intermission. Every song was perfect, and then some. Highlights were: Stinkfist, Opiate, Lateralus, Triad, Reflection, Schism. Damn, every song was a highlight. I can't recall Tool missing one note during the whole show. To all the pople who didn't watch Tricky open up, you should have. I thought they were pretty good. To the people in the lawn chanting "Tool!" during Tricky, fuck you. To be honest, I really did not think I would have a good time at this Tool show. I bought my tickets during the whole pre-sale thing, had Ticketmaster searching for the password for me and everything yet I ended up with the furthest seats I could have had besides the lawn. So many times and so many people swore to me that it was easy to get to the front and I didn't believe them. I'm not usually as happy when I'm wrong as I was this time. So past the security and gates and over seats we went until we got right before the pit where we stood while Gilbert High School's drumline just made me envious. They were outstanding. After that, it was over another gate and into the actual pit where we enjoyed the rest of the show. This was the longest of their shows I've been to. Which is great, of course, but they mostly played songs from Lateralus which I like the least out of all the albums. I would have LOVED to hear Sober, and although all the songs were played out perfectly, I enjoyed the concert the most during Stinkfist, 46 & 2, Pushit (my all time favorite of the live versions), and Opiate. And as always, the visuals on stage were an entire show themselves. My boyfriend voiced a little irritation over all the male genitalia shown "all over the place" but other than that he enjoyed his first Tool show. (oh yeah, and for that girl that couldn't shut up about how ugly Maynard is as he was taking off his pants and shortly after that had a body rammed into her face making her cry...see, now that's just what you deserve.) I am constantly amazed at Tool's talent, never tire of their songs and if that paid for my car and my rent I'd have seen them more than only 4 times. But until the day comes when I can be the inspiration for a Mastercard commercial (4 cities and 4 Tool shows down, 45 more to go....Priceless) I'll just have to keep dreaming and waiting for the winning numbers.

A rarity for me to care or feel anything enough to respond with anything unlike apathy. Not just this show, this particular date, but the whole experience, all 10 or so years, every time i hear tool, see tool, think tool, actually believe i'm understanding what's being said, seeing what's being played: this has at times been so overwhelming, so unexplainable, that it contrasts so sharply with the apathy that the two responses almost look alike. Sit there dumbfounded, barely able to move or speak, *feeling* something that doesn't happen very often. anymore. or hopefully yet. It is amazing to know that many people do not really understand, and yet anything with so much truth finds its way successfully through, all the way to the lowest common denominator. That single strong thread of truth stemming from the intention and honesty that makes these guys and those who work with them...winding (or 'spiralling' seems to have become a popular word) it's way from the shaman to the sage, from the admired to the admiring. To be there, to be going the fuck off, in my own world, consciously telling myself to pretend like nobody's paying attention to me, that nobody cares what i'm doing (*dancing* like a freak, up and down the aisle, welkway, to and from the car, the lines of urinals.....), and then to stop, dead, for just a moment, and look around me, and see so many people, a truly vast sea of heads, all focussed on the stage, some others dancing, drinking, watching, smiling...but most of all just plain overwhelmed, struck by what they're witnessing. And you say to yourself, my god, this is the most beautiful thing i've ever seen. Not beautiful because i felt it, but beautiful because so many people feel it. Even if they don't all understand it.

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. This was my 1st TOOL show and there are absolutely no words to describe the intensity of last nights' show. Maynard stood in front of this huge monitor that displayed different videos and images for each song. Also, there were at least 8 more larger than life screen throught the venue showing the same thing. maynard was 1st dressed in a all black all leather outfit w/ a large black stripe from the back of his nek to the front of his neck, very cool. By the end of the show Maynard was nude only wearing speedos. Adam was dressed in a black suit type deal and he didn't move much, but he played like a God throughout every song. Justin w/ long hair was also dressed in all balck shirt and jeans highlights for him: 46&2, Schism, Lateralus, etc. Danny was dressed normal in shorts and tank top, damn he played like a mother-fucker through every song, without question. The contorsionists were very, very good moving in every direction imaginable during: Schism, the interlude and Triad. The effects on the screens were from some other world, too insane to describe, you'll have to see for yourself. All I can say is for my first TOOL show I was in total awe, amazement, shock, and at complete peace/bliss within those 2 hours and 5 minutes of my life. I simply cannot wait to see TOOL again! Oh by the way here's the REAL Setlist: INTRO- peaceful atmospheric music THE GRUDGE (-) IONS STINKFIST- extended bridge 46&2 PARABOLA- w/out parabol PUSHIT- salival version SCHISM- w/ contorsionists REFLECTION- maynard on guitar DISPOSITION- w/ tricky singing during bridge INTERLUDE- contorsionists again w/ weird music and images TRIAD- more contorsionists and drummer from tricky playing w/ danny, also maynard on guitar EON BLUE APOCOLYPSE THE PATIENT OPIATE- w/ tricky on vocals LATERALUS

This was my first TOOL show, and it seriously kicked ass. After Tricky opened (which didn't really get the crowd going) the GHS Drumline played a 10 min set of Eulogy and 46&2. For anyone who didn't see it, you missed out on something great. The drumline was loud, energetic, and damn fucking good. After that TOOL came out and the Drumline watched the rest of the show from the left wing ONSTAGE. I would die to be one of them. playing with TOOL, then watching from side stage. TOOL played through an amazing setlist...every song was better than the last. The contortionists were really cool, and I didn't expect it. For Triad one of the drummers from the highschool (Joe Nagy? I think...) jammed out with Justin and Danny on some toms. It was so amazing I though I was going to wet myself. After two full hours of god- worthy music it ended- way too early if you ask me.

What a great show. Everything about it was amazing. I have to say the greatest thing about the show was the crowd. I've been to a ton of shows in PHX and this is by far the best crowd at any show. I'm posting this in regards to Lyd's review previously. Why do people feel the need to talk shit about everything at a show just because they are so caught up in themselves they can't be opened up to new experiences. I think Lyd needs to look really deep inside and figure out why Tool is important. Maynard even said we need to take what we learned there and create beauty in the world. Lyd took it upon him/herself to demean this statement and talk about how bad the crowd was and how much Tricky sucks. I think Tricky is a different and Important figure in modern music, creating something that is both intense and hallucinagenic at once. I would like to see your art Lyd. Plus one of my good friends was the head sound engineer at the show in PHX and I thought he did a good job, great with how different it was going from the gilbert high school band (phenomenal) to TOOL. I'm tired of people using this board to degrade TOOL's message. I may beviolating the rules but I want everyone to read this. I'm proud to be a TOOL fan and wasn't thrilled to see them in PHX but I'm so overjoyed that I got to share this life changing experience with so many cool fucking TOOL fans. This was a great show and my highlights of the set were definately the performance of Opiate with Tricky who added another dimension to the track, and the Salival version of Pushit which brought tears to my eyes.

OK, here goes- Stellar show. Massive thanx to the boys in the band for allowing some of us to get tix early. It's likely too late for this tour, but if your not on it already, GET ON THE EMAIL LIST!!! I was fortunate enough to pull pit tickets and caught the show from no further than 10 feet from the stage. As the pit grew in intensity this bacame more like 2 feet although there was more than a bit of pressure on my spine from behind. Didn't catch Tricky although I was one of the few who wanted to. Spent too much time at the Outback drinking Fosters from large glasses and watching the first 4 innings of the D- Backs first World Series loss. After 30 minutes waiting in line for my cavity search, thru the metal detector, and barcode scan of our tickets and we were in the gate. Time enough to get a beer (better make that two) and the lights were out. My wife and I rushed down to the pit in time to see...a High School Band!!! They were freakin' killer. My suspicion that this would be an extra special night of the tour was immediately proven true. Unsure of the hows or whys of this surreal treat, I was waiting to catch the connection which was later revealed to be Adam's nephew Joe who later returned for the stage for Triad. After a brief announcement, "Ladies and gentlemen...the Gilbert High School drum line," and a five minute clearing of the stage, the lights were out once again. Reports that the sound was bad are baffling to me. Adam's guitar was clipping a little bit, but the effect sounded great! The biggest (and most welcome) surprise was the inclusion of the Salival version of Pushit (My fav). To my knowledge this hasn't been played so far on this tour. Even more moving to watch them play it. The songs have been listed and all sounded phenominal. Stinkfist, Grudge, Opiate...and on and on. Glad to see that Hanna was feeling better after being sidelined last week. It sounds like most of the crowd couldn't tell, but from the front of the stage it was plain to see that Osseus Laberint were performing in nothing more than their silver body paint. Don't know if that's the norm, but it wasn't for the Wilkes-Barre video when they wore the "outfits" from the Schism vid. I certainly expected to see moshing, but was a bit surprised to see the pit churning during Disposition/Reflection. I heard bits of lots of different songs during the extended midsection featuring Adam's nephew including Ticks & Leaches, 3rd Eye, and AEnema. The extras we were treated this fine night came at the expense of the full performance of AEnema. OK. There is no justification of complaining about this. We got a truly special show. What a beautiful night. I have the fortune of being married to someone who is just as much of a Tool freak as I am. In the weeks prior to the show I was afraid I might be burning out my Tool CD's I asked my wife if I had been playing them too much to which she replied..."I don't get it." She didn't even understand the question :) I sympathize with any and all who miss seeing Tool. HanoverFyst

I've seen Tool 6 times before, Phoenix, Vegas, Manchester, Red Rocks, L.A., Virginia Beach, and I thought they couldn't get any better. I was mistaken. The night started for me getting off work and picking up two hot Tool fans, S---- and Angie. Next we went home to roast a bowl and grab some munchies. Another hottie showed up later, and I got to watch my wife and one of them get dressed in our master bathroom Wow! I was ready to see Tool!! S----- and her crew went in thier car, and we piled nine people into the Expedition and went to the store to get beers and a Penthouse and cigarettes, and we were on our way. We parked in VIP and finished our beers and joints. My bro-in-law gave us all good mushrooms from Amsterdam. When we got to our seats, the Gilbert High School Band started playing Eulogy, and it smoked! Absolutely blew me away. Then the shrooms and X kicked in. Then Tool came on. They started with the Grudge and the place went nuts! Then Stinkfist with the Suspicious minds ending, right into 46n2. The crowd was at the boining point. The colored lights go so well with P. Cubensis! It seemed like the show was personally tailored for my buzz. Well, I'm at work so I can't say much more, but the highlights were definitely "Salival" pushit, Opiate, and Patient. Thank you Tool.

i would just like to say thank you so incredibly much to everyone. it was an honor, privilege and flat out miracle getting to with tool and for all of you. when we originally went out on stage, we didn't know quite what to expect from the crowd. it was such a hype to get a positive response and be cheered on by everyone. we had been prompted with about everything situation that could've happened from being yelled at to get off the stage to having shoes thrown at us. (which did happen to adam later) it was amazing to have such a warm welcome from the crowd, and let me tell you, it's fucking intimidating to look up for a second, see the lights go out and see hands at the top of the lawn and known that the venue's completely packed. but you all gave us the extra energy to kick the shit out of the show. and just to clarify what we played...it was eulogy, h., and forty-six & 2. it was the most unspeakably mind-blowing experience i have ever had and will probably ever have. thank you for letting us play for you all. to adam, justin, danny, and maynard...thank you, from every fiber of my being. you guys are amazing and made my first live tool experience more than i could have ever dreamed of. and i'm sure i speak for everyone on the line when i say that we'd be elated to take you up on your offer to do this again. getting to watch the show from the stage was incredible and having you all come around after the show to say hi to each of us was an fantastic surprise. it was most definately the experience of a lifetime. thank you again to everyone, adam, justin, danny, maynard, and the crowd. i couldn't, in any way, have asked for more.

Well this was my first TOOL show and I must say that it was THE best show I have ever seen! I started in my seat but ended up in the pit before Tricky finished their first song. Tricky... Well there's 8 people in the band and 4 of them are vocals. On top of that I heard drums when the drummer wasn't playing and when the guitarist was going at it no sound came... I'll let you decide, but mad props to Maynard for letting them tour with TOOL. The Gilbert High drum line was awesome. I think I'll transfer over there and join drum line! Adam's nephew is an amazing percussionist with lots of potential. TOOL's set was awesome to say the least. Would have enjoyed some undertow but it's all good. They played practically all of Lateralus except for Ticks and Leaches which I was really hoping to hear. Just to see God, I mean Maynard, in front of that screen when the fire was going from Schism was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. They played The Patient and Pushit two of the best songs ever written!! The extra lyrics in Stinkfist were very cool and I'd love to know what he said. TOOL is the BEST band and they put on the BEST show! Maynard is GOD and we all know it!!! The concert shirts were awesome except that the ones with the tour dates on them only go up to Oct. 16th but oh well, it's still a TOOL shirt right? TOOL rules over all!

I wasn't reall happy with Tricky but I liked thier first song. Alot of assholes were there yelling shit about tricky and i've never smelled so much weed in my life. During the show someone threw a beer at one of the Security guards and we all started hopping the fence. I didn't go to far cuz they were checking peoples ticket stubs so I stayed in the seat are by the lawn. Everyone was giving the short, brown haired security guard some shit and that guy deserves a raise. Well the show itself kicked ass and i envy the hell outta adams nephew. It was cool to see maynard play guitar. the only letdown was that TOOL was NEVER on the big screens so with a big fucking pillar in front of me I could barely see Justin. thats it, TOOL rules

wow, what can i say for my first tool show. My friends and I drove from el paso,tx just to see that show and it was well worth it. As soon as we got to the venue, we felt the hype and it felt amazing to be there. I really enjoy the music and show from Tricky. As trickt ended, My excitement grew larger, Then these band high school students started playing some cool shit on the drums, it was pretty cool. Then they turned on the lights again. Even though we had lawn tickets, i was still happy though, but as soon as tool started, I noticed people jumping down the ropes to the seats. So we took our chance and made it very close in the middle, i was so fucking happy on the seats we had. The setlist was about the same but instead of playing Prison Sex, they played a song off Opiate which made the crowd go wild. The highlight for me was the drum solo which totally kick ass and was so damn intensed, the whole show was intensed. Torwards the end Maynard played in his underwear, And at the end of the show thay gave each a huge group hug and the crowd went wild. Hopefully i can see tool again soon........thanks tool for a great experience!

We were hypeing for them, knowing that they had one of the coolest things that could ever happen to a High school drumline happen to them. These guys work their asses off every year and have come out on top, and they deserved what they got that awesome Tuesday night. You guys kicked ass, and kept it real. I drove seven hours to Tool...and to put it simply, the show was what can only be described as TRANCSENDENT...beyond all human vocalizations. I actually arrived in the afternoon and saw Gilbert High School warming up for thier pre show Tool tribute, which truly enhanced the concert...before the gates spread we could hear Danny and the fellas belting out some wicked sound checkin'. The added live acts on stage were mesmorizing. Tricky was quite remarkable...to say the least. Tool, as I think we can all atest, is the ONLY band that matters! Adam was amazing, Justin is alone atop the bass gurus. MJK is a wonder to behold, does this guy have bones? or is he all sinew? Then there's Danny...as a drummer myself I was truly humbled and mystified...Danny Carey is the GREATEST DRUMMER ALIVE!! Well worth the numb ass and junk food...the pavilion, although tight as a virgin Minonite, is a great spiritual venue for this mind bending, conscious elevating band. Thank you TOOL!

What a show. After waiting in line for thirty minutes and missing most of Tricky's set, I finally made it to the seats. We were in the second row in 204, not bad. The sound was loud and we were level with the stage. Enough of trash talking Tricky. Tool and Tricky are going to be two of the most influential artists to the next generation of musicians. But down your Budweiser and open your mind a little. But I digress. Tool was what mattered in the end. And I have to say they put on a hell of a show. Everyone else has posted a setlist so I don't need to go into that. The fans were amazing. A couple of fights broke out, but for the most part the mob just wanted to get as close as they could. This was my sixth Tool show and the crowd was the best so far. Gilbert High was extremely professional sounding. If I would have been able to play Tool in band I might have stuck with it. If anyone has a professional recording of Tricky, Gilbert H.S., and/or Tool e-mail me. Now Tricky and Tool. On paper it sounds like a great idea, but as much as I like the sound of it, I didn't think it worked. I definately see a collaboration in the future. More likely APC than tool, though. And if the really cute girl who snuck up to the second row in 204 and gave me a standing lapdance reads this, write me. I want to do that again without clothes. Now I just have to wait for Janes Addiction next week. Big Ass Party.

well well well, after a good twelve plus hours on the road my friend and I finally arrived in Arizona...after trippin thru some of the most hellacious eyesore of god awful country on this continent, I might add...finding the place was a snap.. finding a place to lay down our soon to be weary bones was not..we finally setteled for some trucker-econo joint.. Anyhow, after walking the three or four blocks from our hotel room to the Desert Sky...(we knew driving would be a bad idea altogether, since the parking was hell, and we had our pre-show;post-arrival party right when we checked in which consisted of pounding down shots of that blessed-opiate- inclusive-drink-of-the-wretched, Jagermiester..)..then after the fucking frisk filled security..which was worthless in my eyes seeing as we still got our stash of grass in, and I still managed to get a camera thru the "security"...Tricky was blaring as we came in, the band has got mad rants I'll give em that...they can spout faster than busta ryhmes!(if that's even helpful)..they had this gal sing on a few takes and she was really strange to listen to, in a good way..after finding our piece of shit ticketmaster rip off seats, section 301 and a few rows from the grass!! we gave our acheing backs from the extensive road trippin earlier in the day a rest while we listened to Tricky..afterwards we rose for the percussion line tribute to tool from a local high school..one of thee coolest ways to begin a show I've seen in a very long time...then it was on, y'all have seen the setlist..it was a godsend! everyone was into it were I was and AZ is full of some cool fuckers, thanks for your kindness...hopefully our puffing and passing paid back for you brotherhood-like hospitality..at one point my tunnel vision became so annoying I couldn't stand to watch and just crashed to my seat, at which point I apparantly passed out, seeing as I awoke a few songs later and the only reason I regained my composure is the fact that people kept having to step over my retarded ass and I felt bad...Maynard didn't talk much, but I guess he hasn't been too conversational this entire tour...oh well..god bless the internet for making this rendevous possible..even if it includes a bunch of bullshit add on fees and such..I've seen tool many times, whether this is the best or not I can't say..but it was definately a unique experience..I loved the venue, other than red rocks in Colorado, it just may be the place..you know?..anyway there were aspects of the show that were totally new and fresh to the tour and band..so for those and many other reasons it was completely worth the drive..even a drive thru those fucked up and sickening indian reservations ..what a classless goverment we reside under eh?..that was a ways off the point I was about to make..itwaswortheverygoddamnpennyandeverygoddamnmile!

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

I've been waiting 9 whole years to see Tool live and I finally got my wish!! Due to car problems on the drive to Phoenix from Tucson, I missed most of Tricky's set. I was little concerned when I saw where my seats were, literally the last row of seats before the lawn seats. Basically, my back was up againist the fence seperating the lawn seats from the regular seats. Due to some experiences at past concerts (with people acting stupid) I was a little concerned that once Tool came on stage, people would be flying over the fence, trying to get my seat, etc. Luckily, that didn't happen and from where I was seated, everyone seemed to be acting pretty normal. The Gilbert High School drum line was a treat, my boyfriend who plays drums, loved that. When Tool finally came on stage, I thought I was going to die I was so over come with emotion. I cried through out the first 3 songs, just humbled by the fact that my favorite band was right in front of me. I thought the stage set up was pretty unique, with Maynard on the back of the stage by Danny, and Justin and Adam up front. Maynard's voice sounded amazing, even better than on the Cds. I sort of wish they had done some more of the older songs, they didn't even play one song from Undertow, but I can't really complain considering how incredible they sounded. I thought it was very touching at the end of the show, when Maynard told everyone to remember how they were feeling right now and weeks from now take that feeling and do something positive with it. I intend to do that, thank you Maynard.

I feel as if I am now content. This show in Phoenix was the most amazing experience of my life. Maynards movements were breathtaking, so fluid and beautiful. He seemed to be part of the music. Danny's incomparable ability on the drums seemed to hit me deep in my heart. Adam and Justin stayed still the entire time, Adam on the left, Justin on the right. They harmonized perfectly together. Maynard stood in the back of the stage on a little step, with a screen behind him, so you could only see his silhouette. I feel that this alone says a lot about how great of artists these men are. Instead of being the frontman and getting all the spotlight, he stood in the back in the dark. It's not about personal images. It's all about the music, and that is a hard thing to find these days. Tool, in my opinion, will always be the most phenomenal band in the world. They are years ahead of anyone else in everything they do. I will never miss another concert again, and I pray that it isn't ANOTHER five years before a new album. I believe Tool will live on forever, as long as true fans continue to buy albums and support them. Spiral Out, Keep Going

INTRO- peaceful atmospheric music THE GRUDGE (-) IONS STINKFIST- extended bridge 46&2 PARABOLA- w/out parabol PUSHIT- salival version SCHISM- w/ contorsionists REFLECTION- maynard on guitar DISPOSITION- w/Hawk from Tricky singing during bridge INTERLUDE- contorsionists again w/ weird music and images TRIAD- more contorsionists and Joe (Nagy?) of the Gilbert High School Drum Line playing w/ danny, also maynard on guitar EON BLUE APOCOLYPSE THE PATIENT OPIATE- w/ tricky on vocals LATERALUS I posted that updated version of the setlist because many people have been confused that either Tricky's drummer Kerry or Adam/Danny's cousin played drums during the song Triad. Nuff about that for now. onto the review. Tricky was good, not exceptional and they improved as their set went on but he is better on CD then live in my opinion. The 'rap off' during one of the songs was the high point. And no the bass wasn't too loud that is the way Tricky always is. Ok onto the intermission. I had taken a friend who wasn't a Tool fan so he was up and around during this, and he hated Tricky, but he arrived right as the Gilbert High School drum corps came on. here is the scoop on them. Gilbert High School drum line for some months has been working on a CD recording of Tool 'covers' they finished not too long ago and sent that CD to a local radio station. (97.9 KUPD). The idea for the project came from a student and the band ran with it. A radio deejay put one of the songs on regular rotation and other deejays play their favorites from time to time. mostly 46 & 2 gets played. The station manager sent a recording to Maynard or Tool's press people and Maynard liked the songs so much he invited the band to play the intermission for Tool at their upcoming show in Phoenix. Enough about that, except to say it was nearly the highlight of the show, if you missed it I am truly heartbroken for you Tool fans in other states. It kicked hardcore ass. (If anyone has a copy of the GHS or Tool part of the show on CD or cassette i would love a copy.) Tool was amazing truly amazing. My favorite songs are Reflection and Lateralus off the new CD. and they played them both to CD quality and beyond. I loved the extra's Maynard added. The new verses, the guitar playing(he actually played you could tell), the nearly naked Maynard by the end of 46 & 2,Tricky on Opiate, and Joe (Nagy?) on Triad. Maynard after Triad said "That was Joe Nagy?. I believe we've created a monster". this after the kid had played his heart out, tossed his drumsticks into the crowd and stripped off his shirt and tossed it too. Amazing. by the time they got to Opiate i was hoarse from singing. Hope i didnt annoy anyone around me with my singing along to all the songs. Opiate kicked ass, when Tricky started singing "this is not the reason, I believe" or something along those lines. Lateralus blew me away. I couldn't help but cry that song has a special place in my heart and always will. Anyway thanks for letting me rant. hope you all enjoyed it as much as i did. Tool fans in AZ rock the hardest. The crowd was amazing and cool. I have seen APC 3 times. Once on October 18, 1999 and prior to Tool last night that was my favorite show. now they are tied for first place. Tool is the single BEST band in the world. I can't wait to see them again. Share the feelings that we got from that show like Maynard told us too...later.

Great show, showed up a little late in Tricky's act, to this I'm very greatful I have YET to see Tool with a good opening act... Messhugah would have been right up my ally (i've seen them before in concert). Tricky = Crap If your not into rap, hip-hop, etc you probly* won't like him. I was very impressed with the high school drum line (suprised the school allowed the student to have activity relating to tool {i went to gilbert schools most my life}) The relative was full of him self and had a big head, very annoying. Maynard said it best "Look what we have created". MJK encouraged people to go read a positive book and do something positive, I hope they (we) do. The music was great minus tricky, the videos were nice but EXTREMELY repetitive. I saw the same video repeated ungodly amounts of times during one song. This was pretty much a cookie cutter concert nothing special except the band line and contorcionists (sp). It was a GOOD concert because it was Tool and you have to work pretty hard to screw that up, as long as they play the songs most people are going to be happy. I would like to see them talk more maybe use more unique video footage, another enocor(sp) or two and throw in a suprise like a new song or maybe some of their artwork.

When GIlberts drum line came out and performed eulogy and 46-2 i went crazy. Then finally the grudge started playing everybody went crazy. Danny was unbelieveable. He is the best drummer ever. The extended bridge on stinkfist was great. Im so glad they plaed 46-2. Then my favorite song Parabola. It was great. During Triad Joe (Adams nephew) came out and played the drums with danny. it was awesome. Opiate was great. This was the best concert ive ever been to. I hope i get to see tol again soon. A message for all of you analytical music lovers. i will make the assumption that all viewers of this message have, are, or going to see a bad ass musical concert. Where the music metamorphisizes all your anxieties, feelings, and emotions into one giant super-orgasm of pure pleasure. I understand that one of the greatest things about going to a concert is that there are no inhibitions, no barriers, and no worries living with you in that moment. However, you should always consider all those around you. They are just like you. And if the band succeeds, you are all one conscious pulsing power of positive energy. That is why it is so important not to taint others experience with negative outbursts, flashing lights, or intentionally blocking peoples view( i.e standing on chairs). At this TOOL show i witnessed one of the worst things that could be done at a concert. There were single rows at the beginning of each main section set aside just for handicapped persons. Even though there were signs, railing, and constant security reminders, many "fans" blocked the way of those deserving of the seats. This is just a reminder to all of those who love music, that although euphoric feelings during a concert may be overwhelming, to keep in mind those fans around you. And those of you who witness negative occurrences, such as i did, please take positive actions to better the situation. Because, what is this great music all really about? It's about the process of growth and understanding, of ourselves and our surroundings. And without positive actions we are nothing more than "the greatest story never written." DO I REALLY NEED TO WRITE THAT THE SHOW KICKED ASS FOR YOU TO KNOW. STOP MASTURBATING AND GO SEE IT FOR YOURSELF.
