This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

First off I'd like to start out with giving an utmost respect for tricky and the band! How can I explain it, sound stage passes, best seats in the house. They played flawless, I can't believe they just keep getting better. TOOL is by far the best, they just keep surpising me. Tricky's drummer and Danny were definetly the highlight for me. Just wanted to say I had a blast with TOOL's first time to Spokane, and I'll see you in Tacoma!! Meet me on the other side!!!!!!!!!!!

Pushit.. Opiate... The set was amazing, I was a little dissapointed with nothing from Undertow. They got it all. Tool has got to be the best band ever. And the crazy contortionist people added to the mind blowing perfomance only maynard could pull off.

The show was badass....best I have ever seen and I don't have the voice to tell you about it. Tricky surprised me and was better than what everybody made him out to be. Sounded like he was trying to sound too much like Prodigy but still a good opening band. Tool is perhaps the best touring band out there today and I am glad I came up from Boise, Idaho to witness and feel the passion and energy come from this band. Maynards vocals were on. Danny's drumming was spectacular. The visuals and contortionists were mind-blowing. The setlist as far as I can remember: The Grudge (-)ions Stinkfist 46 & 2 Schism I don't remember what all else was in there. I know they played Opiate, Pushit, and closed with Lateralus. All in all a great show and a great experience. Can't wait for the band to come back around this way, and maybe even make it to Boise!!!

Okay, first off I showed up tp the line for the show at 6:45. The line was really long and I hated it in the cold. Before I knew it I was entering the arena. I went straight to the bathroom to freshen up. I could hear Tricky already playing about 2 songs in, so I was pretty much there for everything. I found my seat which was in an A section so I could put my feet up. I saw the people in the pit totally full. Later in the night every seat was taken too. Tricky sounded very wierd but good. I didnt do any drugs to this show because I wanted to take everyting in, except for a beer I drank, hey I just turned 21 damn it! After getting bored of tricky and some chick that sung with them I was out in the lobby looking for friends. Came back in to my seat during intermission and watched as Danny's drum set was put up, drooool! Finally the lights go out. The video screens pop up with the flaming eye and the demonic screetching goes through the speakers. The crowd goes flippin crazy as the band walks on stage. The whole night the crowd was positive and even around me. They abviously open with The Grudge, woo hoo! Then every other bad ass song. The video screens kicked my ass since I am a computer nerd. They were well planned animated and very clear. Adam is bad ass. True artists. Maynard took his coat off, then his shirt, singing like he used to. The whole show he was convuling and running in circles and jumping around. I don't care what you say he was full of energy. Oseous Labrynth was sweet and crazy. The sound was excellent and every note plus more was hit. Thats about it it fuckin rocked fool!

WOW! Awesome show. After months of trying to figure out how we could get tickets/afford to travel/make arrangements to see Tool in Tacoma, Portland or Vancouver, imagine my ecstasy when they announceed that Tool was playing right here in the little 'ol town of Spokane. I don't know, but Spokane might be the smallest arena they played on this leg of the tour (max 14,000 people), but it almost sold out, which is amazing when you consider the only times the arena here has sold out was for Garth Brooks and Reba. It took a long time to get in, strictest search I've ever participated in. Missed most of Tricky because of it, but they sounded cool. Maybe I'll just buy their CD. Tried to watch the show from about eight feet back, but the crowd was to full of drunk assholes just shoving everyone around them for no reason. One girl on her boyfriends shoulders was trying to pull her way forward using other people's hair and kicking everyone in her way, but she ended up getting carried off the floor a little....hurt. Anyway, respect each other a little and try to enjoy the music. We watched most of the show from the back, and we could see and hear everything fine. They played Opiate instead of AEnema, and it was awesome. Note to people who keep bitching about the set list: of course they are going to play more stuff from their new album, the fact that they have a new album is why they are touring. And Tool's music has evolved, which is one reason they are such a great band, unlike some bands, say AC-DC, who keep putting out the same album every time. Also, didn't any of you notice how well the images went with every song, and how tight evey song was, even with added/extended parts? That kind of procludes changing the setlist aroung every night. Thanks, Tool, hope you come back to Spokane again sometime.

Setlist: The Grudge (-) ions stinkfist 46+2 parabol parabola pushit schism disposition reflection (w/ hawk from tricky) --intermission-- (osseus labyrint) triad (w/ perry from tricky) eon blue apocalypse the patient opiate (w/ tricky) lateralus I am pretty sure that is the correct order. Once again, thank you tool and tricky! You made this the best concert I have ever been to.

Wow! I first saw Tool in Seattle earlier at the Paramount this summer. Other than the shitty 11p curfew Seattle has which seemed to force a shortened setlist they were awesome. It was hard too imagine that they could top it but they did. They crowd was awesome, showed great respect for Tricky, I myself could have done without but hell, they were better than King Crimson earlier this year, and yes, I did clap for them and give them their props. It could have been a lot worse. The visual show was better than in Seattle, the videos looked pretty much the same but the contortionists, the second drummer and Tricky added to the show. The long jam they did just before or just after the intermission was totally kick ass. Sure they could have taken that 10 or 15 minutes and played Prison Sex, Aenima and H., but man that was just mind blowing. You have to have the utmost respect for the talent these guys have, they were so on it tonight, Maynard's vocals were flawless and the show was amazing. I just hope they dont wait five years for their next album!

So far the greatest experience in my short life had to be Tool in concert. They played most of the new titles on Laterlus, Pushit 46&2 and Opiate. And a long version of Merkaba. Adam stayed on stage most of the concert while the Justin, Maynard and Danny took frequent breaks. Adam also played with Tricky. The only thing that pissed me off were all the fucking unappreciative poser fucks yelling at Tricky. Tool didn't perform an encore, probably because all the preppy fucks pissed Maynard off. All in all it kicked ass, we were in the pit most of the show. But I think next time I'm gettin' seat tickets and grabbin' some caps because the screens are fucking amazing.

Excellent show. I arrived early but missed Tricky due to the ridiculous security. I got to see all of Tool's performance. Mostly Lateralus songs. Three from Aenema and they did play Opiate next to last. It would have been nice to hear more older songs but there's only so much they can do in one show. Excellent visual effects - both on screen and with the contortionist/acrobats. They played : Grudge, Stinkfist, 46&2, Schism, Parabol/Parabola, Pushit, Disposition, Reflection, Triad, Eon Blue Apocalypse, Patient, Opiate, and Lateralus. The last time I saw Tool was in Lewiston, Maine a few years ago. It's nice that they play the smaller venues so people who don't live near a huge city don't have to drive all day to see the show. The perfromance was definitely worth the money, long drive, and long wait in line. I'd like to see Tool perform again.

This was this reviewer's 1st? Tool show

First off, let me begin by stating that this was my first experience with Tool outside of listening to their CD's. I can honestly say that I have not so much as even seen a snippet of one of their videos, either. I really had no expectations nor preconceived ideas to bring with me to the show. I walked in and sat down with a completely open and accepting mind. "Fill me"... and they did! As we sat and watched their stage being set up, I was first impressed with the religious and mystical symbols to either side. These were obviously not just randomly picked as mere ambience for the "unenlightened masses". They had purpose and reason. Is that the OTO's calling card I see? Hmmm. I could tell we were in for more than just your run- of-the-mill concert. Then the lights went out and the chant began. It sounded like an enochian call. The tonality seemed to focus my mind, like I was being "prepared" for something. Perhaps it was the light show? *grin* From the moment Tool first began with their presentation, it was a more than pleasant assault upon the senses. I was stimulated on every level, both physical and mental. The combination of sounds, lights and images.... all pulled together cohesively and took over my system like a strange and wonderful drug. We were atleast half-way into the show before I consciously noticed that my breathing and heart rate had slowed dramatically to a definite pattern matching what was before me. I was in a trance-like state for most of the concert. At one point I even closed my eyes and "felt" the experience as it pulsated throughout my body and mind. I may have been at a slight advantage than most in being overly "receptive" to the influence of it all. I'll explain. I like Tool. My girlfriend and I have most of their CD's. (She was the one to really introduce me to their music, I might add.) Even though I am familar with the songs, I do not know all the lyrics. I can't really sing along. I listen. Because of this, Maynard's voice became very much like the fourth instrument to me. Notes, tones, sounds.... blending with everything else I tasted. Even watching him sing; the man moves in such a way that he appears to be "playing" his body. It really added another dimension to it for me. Helped me separate and suspend reality to a greater extent. During the brief set-break, the guitarist played a repeated series of tones for what seemed about five minutes. It struck me as almost like a Buddhist chant/call. It was a moment for me to re-focus and ground once again for the second half of the show. The entire evening ended up being a spiritual experience for me in a bizarre and unexpected way. I walked home in the cold Novemeber air feeling strangely calm and at peace; more mentally and physically relaxed than I have been in a long while. Something Maynard had said towards the end stuck with me and rang through my head the rest of the night.... "i hope this has been a healing experience". I can attest that it truly was. Let me add that the only way Tool's performance and my experience thereof could have possibly been better would be if I was the only one sitting in the center of the floor before them. No distractions around me. To be able to take in 100% of what they offered me and digest it completely and fully. I truly hope that they do begin to play in smaller venues in the future. I, for one, would be willing to pay a little extra cash for a more intimate setting. The only "bad" part of the concert was the predominance of angry white youths holding their pointed fingers in the air screaming "Tooooooool f***ing rocks!!!!" So sad that they could not set aside the violent beast inside them and take what they were being offered. So ironic to watch them swell back and forth in the sea of anger and hate on the floor, shooting glowsticks and cups of soda at the stage and each other all the while being surrounded by positiveness. So many images of great spiritual and mystical import falling on blind eyes. Oh well... it was their loss. The boys in Tool have something great to offer the world. They've tapped into something far beyond JUST music. Go. Watch. Experience if you haven't already. And if you have and didn't "get" what I got... then go again! The tribal rythms, the syncronized lights and images. All of it. If you open your mind and let it all take you to where it's going you are in for one fantastic journey within. :)

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

This was my first TOOL show and all I could say afterwards was: wow. The mixture of sounds and visuals was incredible. It was a nice change to eee a group of artists focused on their music rather than self-indulgent stage antics. Having been a fan as long as I can remember I was determined to get close so I could "see" TOOL. In doing so, i found that I was unable to really "see" what was going on. While trying to fend off the violent minority I was unable to lose myself in the moment and concentrate on the overall presentation. Regardless, it was a tremendous show and I look forward to seeing the band again. On a side note it is great to see so many people from different walks of life be able to enjoy a show like this. That is the beauty of TOOL, the music means something to all of us and touches each of us in a different way. I don't claim to know what Maynard or the band thought of Spokane or the preppies or the jocks or the stoners or any other meaningless categorization of people at the show but I do know that through the power of TOOL's artistry for 2 hours we all came together under the same classification: TOOL Fans, and that, my friends, is all that matters.

I have always been a huge Tool fan. They have given me so much through their music, I only wish I could give something back to them. I was euphoric when I heard of the Spokane show. They rocked the place, and I hope they come back again. The show was absolutly amazing. I did not get down onto the floor, but the show from above was very nice. The visuals were amazing and the music was flawless. The whole experience was inspiring. Thank you Tool....

Incredible experience! My first time seeing Tool indoors. Sounded very good. Especially Maynard's vocals. I had a good view without a bunch of drunk meatheads screaming in my ears. Stood quietly and took in the aural/visual/mental/spiritual spectacularity of a special group of men that make music that speaks to the heart, mind, and soul. An arguable rarity in the plasticity of the all mighty dollar and glamour that so plagues the radio waves. GRINNING WIDE........ AND COMFORTING ME WITH ITS THREE WARM AND WILD EYES............

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

This was actually my first concert ever. I was in the pit. I was beaten up, twice, and managed to make it up to the front railing. And this is what happened.... Tricky came on, and due to earlier reviews I had expected Tricky to go on and off the stage unnoticed. Instead, managed to get the whole pit going with his special blend of music. I was knocked around and pushed forward by a corpulent madman, which put me up at the rail for Tool. It must have been 25 minutes between Tricky and Tool, but it was well worth the wait. Opening with "The Grudge", they got everybody in the pit hopping around. I nearly suffocated from being smashed into the railing and inhaling smoke from people smoking pot. "The Grudge" was performed perfectly. The next piece was (-) ions, which sounded abbreviated to me. That led into Stinkfist, and I was singing the whole time. With an extended bridge in the middle, the pit calmed down, and Maynard came back swinging into the next verse. "I'll keep digging/ till I feel something." Wow. After Stinkfist was one of my personal favorites, "46 & 2". Not many people knew the song, they just hopped around. I actually had Adam and Maynard looking at me at the same time as they blew through the song with no trouble at all. Other notables were Pushit, Opiate and Reflection- Disposition-Triad piece. Opiate knocked everybody out, with Adam laying down his riffs so hard I'll bet it hurt. Everybody seemed to know it. Osseus Labrynt had everybody mesmorized. The Grudge (-) ions Stinkfist (Extended bridge) Forty Six & 2 Pushit (Salival) Schism Reflection (A very interesting and long intro) Disposition (Note: Adam stayed on stage and played the last three or four notes of this song for at least another five minutes, and recieved a standing ovation.) Triad (With dancers) The Patient Opiate Lateralus This is the correct setlist, but I'm not sure of the order. A show I will never forget. I had to lean on my friend to walk out, and I still can't hear anything. Thank you, Tool. Oh, and Maynard seemed quite talkative tonight, mentioning that "some of you were wise enough to come early and see Tricky." He also gave his "Do something positive" speech.

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

Well, my 1st Tool show and it was amazing. Once we got past the way-too thorough security (and as a consequence, missed Tricky despite being a half hour early), it was just a rush. I just want to thank Maynard, Justin, Adam and Danny for really being in fine form last night. The whole set was just tight - Maynard has such an amazing voice, always powerful and full of life. Perched at the back center of the stage, his movements as he sang just added to the power of his voice. As far as the rest of the band, words just can't do them justice - unstoppable power. From The Grudge to Lateralus, this concert was great. The video screens were awesome as well. Others have posted setlists, so I won't bore you with that - my only dissapointment, if you can use that word, is that Aenema wasn't played, but hey, you can't have it all. The controtionists were fascinating, and when the band rolled through Triad as the contortionists finished their act - well, words can't describe how damn cool that was. And, I've got to say the Lateralus was a near perfect closing song - the end of that song comes on so damn strong, its awesome. All in all, an amazing show - I hope they crank out a new album sometime next year because I can't wait to see them again. Thanks guys for a stellar show.

This was this reviewer's 2 Tool show

Second time seeing Tool, first time was back in 98 in Seattle. I love the new album and everything it represents and the show was outstanding, just like the earlier show I saw. Unfortunately I didn't get to see Tricky perform and, I hate to be this way, didn't really care for when one of the members from Tricky sang during "Reflection". It just didn't work for me. I'm all for artistic freedom and collaboration, I mean, after all these are Tool's songs and they can do whatever they want with them. That just happened to be the one song I wanted to hear the most. But what's most important is that the band continues to do what they want with their music. It's not up to me or anyone else to dictate how they express themselves. It was unfortunate also that from where I was sitting I couldn't see the contortionists perform over the stage. I did however get to witness one of my favorite bands pour their collective talents and emotions out for all of us, and that is a positive thing. Thanks to the band for a great show and for all their hard work. Thanks also for coming to Spokane. I would have gone to Seattle or Portland, but you saved me a trip! Great show, glad I was able to make it. One last thought, if I can ramble a bit, I think we're all tired of the mental midgets at these shows that yell things like "Tool fuckin rocks!!!" or simple yelling "Tool!!!" Maybe it's a good thing they yell out the bands name, otherwise Justin, Adam, Danny and Maynard might confuse themselves with the Osmonds or something. Sorry, no more negativity from me, I've gotten it out of my system.

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

I have seen many bands live, and have always wanted to see Tool. Living in Hungry Horse, Montana a town you have probably all never heard of I dont get a chance to see a band like Tool very often, especially since they havent toured in a while. However, walking into the Spokane Arena I could already feel the magic. I was lucky enough to get General Admission seats, so I was right in the action. I showed up about 20 minutes before Tricky started, and I was anxiously awaiting my first appearance of Maynard, and somebody approached me asking if I wanted to see his "Tool" after he indecently exposed himself and my friends and I all turned away, Tricky took the stage. I was sort of confused being as Tricky really isnt shoving moshing angry music, but everything was cool and the way the crowd was moving put me closer to the stage. By the time Tricky's set was over I was almost to the rail about 3 bodies from it. After about a 30 minute wait the lights dimmed, and The Grudge was the song they opened with. It was very hard to keep focus on just one aspect of the show, of course there is Maynard, and the way he moves and feels the music. There is Danny who has the hugest drumset I have ever seen and scales it like his backyard, and Adam who was right on with every note, and dressed in a sharp suit and tie, and Justin quickly scaling up and down the bass frets. After Tool finished 46 & 2, Stinkfist, Schism, and Parabol/a then came the impressive contortionists, rapelling up and down the backdrop and dangling, truly there wasnt a dull moment. I had sort of lost my place in the crowd, and as soon as I heard opiate start, I moved as close to the stage as possible. After Opiate had ended, Maynard said his goodbyes, and then they closed with Lateralus, and upon their departure from the stage, they all had sovieneirs to throw into the crowd, and adam jones attached a pick to the set list and crumpled it up and threw it into the crowd, and a friend and I were lucky enough to see it land, he jumped on it. We now have a peice to our first tool show, and no matter how bad my alzheimers gets I will never forget this concert.

I was so glad that I had GA seating. It wouldn't feel the same seeing TOOL and Tricky from a seat. I can't wait to see them in Tacoma! The last time I saw Tricky was at the '97 Lollapalooza with Tool. I have to say they were MUCH better then. I liked Tricky and the rest of his band, but I hated their girl singer! But those are all the ignorant one minded people. Tricky consisted of great bass, i dont know who the bass was but it was hella good. When Tool came out it was maddness. Not thinking i was going to mosh. But then getting consumed by the crowd. There wasnt any dicks at the show it was so positive. Didnt need to need to get high off a drug. Tool was my drug all a natural high. Tool played like a machine everything coming together so perfectly. When they played Opiate everyone went crazy. But by far Reflection was the best song. If Tool ever comes near Washington for another tour theres no way in hell im going to miss them.

Did anyone read the review in the Spokesmans Review? It's sad how many assumptions were made about the band... here it is: Pretentiousness aside, Tool musicianship top rate Concert review: Tool, with Tricky Monday, Nov. 5, Spokane Arena Heather Lalley - Staff writer The term "frontman" is a misnomer for Tool's lead singer, Maynard James Keenan. At Monday's concert at the Arena, the near-capacity crowd didn't see much of the bald-headed Keenan, who stood as far downstage as he could, singing and writhing in backlit profile. Instead, we were left to focus on the towering video screens, on which sometimes disturbing, sometimes amusing arty videos rolled by, choreographed in time to the music. Keenan himself often turned his back to the audience, singing instead to the smaller video screen in front of him. And then there were the two contortionists, who dangled from the rafters by their ankles midway through the two-hour set. Strange? Sure. Pretentious? A bit. Couple that with the fact that many of Tool's songs spiraled on for 10 minutes or more, evolving in complex and challenging and un-radiolike ways, and it's a wonder the band has become as successful as it has. But once you listen to them and get past some of the pretentious artifice, it becomes clearer. These prog-rockers are meticulous musicians, truly concerned about the sound of a piece instead of fast-forwarding to the radio-friendly hook. Fittingly, opening act Tricky started off the night with an experimental mix of rap, rock and R&B. He and some of his band members would later reappear for a couple of numbers with Tool. Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, bassist Justin Chancellor and drummer Danny Carey began the two-hour set with an eerie and distorted "The Grudge" off Tool's latest album, "Lateralus." That was followed by "Stinkfist" off 1996's "Aenima," which got the largely teen crowd bouncing as one in the giant, throbbing mosh pit. As Keenan writhed and screamed, the video screen showed a computer-generated woman repeatedly sliding her thumb under a man's eyelid. In time to the beat, of course. Jones and Chancellor displayed some fine interplay during "Forty-six & 2," with the muscular guitar riffs counterbalanced by the chugging bass beat. The first act of the set ended as Jones played a five-note riff over and over again, slightly altering the rhythm each time. It was an interesting sound study, lulling the audience into a near-trance, but occasionally I would wake from the stupor and think "This has really gone on a long time. Let's get on with it." Enter the contortionists, who wriggled from the rafters as Keenan wailed "Opiate," the title song off the band's first album. Tool ended the set with the heavy and dark "Lateralus," followed by the band members embracing in a group hug. Just before the final song, Keenan, who had only spoken to say "good evening" and "thanks," told the crowd: "Hopefully, this evening has been a catalyst for inspiration or healing. Hopefully you will take those feelings home with you in the coming weeks to create something positive." Pretentious? You bet. But it's worth it to get past all that and give Tool's music a chance. •Heather Lalley can be reached at (509) 459-5089 or by e- mail at heatherl@spokesman.com. ..... pre·ten·tious (pr-tnshs) adj. Claiming or demanding a position of distinction or merit, especially when unjustified. Making or marked by an extravagant outward show; ostentatious. See Synonyms at showy .... Is it just me or does it seem that she is completely missing the point? In my opinion the whole ponit of the show was to focus on the visuals and the music. If she thinks that the video screens and contortionists were "too pretentious" I think she is really taking it the wrong way. "I'm the man and you're the man and hes' the man as well" ... I think we should email her and give her a clue of what Tool is about.

Tool continues to overwhelm years after I first heard them and I can't wait to see what time does to their style and their minds. Special thanks to Tool for coming to Washington twice so that I have two chances to see them. This show was very special since it's the first I've heard of the new material live and the power of the new music is multiplied by the live experience ten fold. The first half of the show I think everyone in the arena was standing, hearing the old material from the more reflective and stoic band made it even more powerfull. Stinkfist is and has been one of my favorite song since the first time I heard it and it was amazing to hear it done in a new light. I hope that Tool plans to release more live stuff in the future they are definantly a live band and always have been. It was a bit odd seeing Maynard play an insturment that didn't involve his voice but remembering TexansI know he's been playing for years. Having Tricky on the Tool songs threw me a little. I can definantly understand why Tool has been having Tricky in their set and why they chose them as their opener but putting the two of them together just wasn't, well Tool. I came to the show to see Tool and when Tricky finished their set I was glad to of seen them and I gave them the respect they deserve but I was a little dissapointed that out of all the Tool songs they played Tricky kind of took over the end of the show when Tool should have been strongest. I'm not complaining I just wish I had seen the beginning of the tour, before the guys got bored. All in all though it was probably the most powerfull concert I have been too and I can't wait to see them again in Tacoma. I love Tool and I hope that on their next tour they grace my city again and maybe play Third Eye.....ok ok no demands just come back soon. Thanks Adam, Danny, Justin, Maynard stay strong and don't let them push you around.

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

Well, I've liked Tool for a while, so my hopes were pretty high when heading to their show. I have to say though, I was a little disappointed. I didn't like Tricky...and was a lot happier when they left the stage. But then while I was enjoying Tool, one of their singers is back...I didn't pay to see that guy come in and ruin Tool's music! I liked most of the songs Tool chose to play and they sounded really good - that was the cool part. They had it nice and loud but not too loud to where it sound's like sh*t. I didn't really dig the screen Maynard hid behind though... I think it would have been cooler if he would have just joined the rest of his band. I bet a lot of the audience came to see him...not just his shadow. All in all, I'm still glad I went. It was worth my money and I got to see Tool...well except for Maynard. Not too many good bands come to Spokane so I'm glad I got to see one of them.

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

I thought it was interesting how there was an extremely long line of people to get inside, and I went to a line with ten people and got inside in a few minutes, oh well. I didn't get a general admission ticket, but it still was a great show. I was dissapointed by the lack of attendance during the Tricky set. They were great, although I couldn't figure out what exactly each member in the band did, it seemed like a few people just stood around. But the second song they played I recognised, so I was happy. But they didn't play Evolution Revolution Love, which is a great song. I won't put the setlist up, because other people have it correct. During Adam's amazing outro to Reflection, there were several obnoxious people yelling "Get on with it" and "Do something" and that is extremely disrespectful. We should all be thankful to Tricky and Tool that they played in Spokane. The best songs they played were The Grudge, Parabol/Parabola, Triad, and Lateralus. Triad was an especially intense song. osseus labyrint was great, and their performance during Triad was unbelievable. This was a great show, and it was just as good as my first Tool show at Portland in August. The arena was good, but I liked the concert hall atmosphere better. I think that Danny stole the show, at times I couldn't see where his hands were because he moved so fast. It was incredible. Adam and Justin were stoic and concentrated on the music. Maynard was dead on and flailed around with as much grace as possible. Thank you Tricky, osseus labyrint, and Tool for a great show that I will never forget.

This was this reviewer's 8th Tool show

Contrary to popular belief, this was not the first time Tool played Spokane. They played here at Gatsby's back in the Opiate days. I don't know if it's true, but I heard Paul D'Amour is from Spokane, or a town just outside Spokane. Just a little Spokane Tool trivia for you. This tour is different than there past shows in several ways: Maynard is not in the foreground, he's in the shadows & has been more mobile (We all remember the long-haired mohawk days, the 'Reverend Maynard' and my favorite; the 'Peg Bundy' get-up). Also, the band experiemented more visually with the videos, the additions of the Labyrinth people and having Tricky join in on several songs. As I've learned through their music, to evolve and push oneself is a good thing. Hearing all of Lateralus at the Seattle show was awesome. At the Spokane show, there were several differences, they played 46&2, Pushit, Opiate & Stinkfist & all of Lateralus EXCEPT ticks & leeches. At the Seattle show, they played Stinkfist, Pushit (slow version), Opiate and ALL of Lateralus. That was the first time I heard them play Ticks & Leeches. Amazing energy in that song. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure about the Tricky interaction...I'm still torn on that one. It sounded decent, but I felt it took away from meaning...Reflection is an amazing song, especially lyrically....I felt that Tricky's part took away from some of that. This tour definitely has a different feeling. I felt more of a spiritual connection this time around. I think that they continue to evolve and the new album shows that. It comes out even more during the show. I remember the first time I heard Pushit live back in Oct. of 96...I was blown away. It sounded so much better than the CD...the way they connect with each other on stage is incredible. You can feel the energy...I felt the same way when they played many of the new songs, including The Grudge (what a way to start the show!) and especially Parabola and Lateralus. The CD versions don't do the live versions justice. This band plays so well together...it's amazing. Looking forward to road-tripping to the next Tool show...

This was this reviewer's 4th Tool show

WOW! These guys have yet to steer me wrong. Once again absolutely amazing. I had the priveledge of seeing them a few months ago in Seattle. The Arena wasn't quite as intimate, but kicked ass none the less. Maynard, as always, was dead on. The sounds created by Adam and Justin melt together so flawlessly and magically, than when combined with the imagery that engulfs the eyes, the mind is sent spinning off into another world. Then there's Danny. Watching Danny play is a show in itself. He's probably one of the best drummers i've ever seen. These guys have been, and will remain the "sleeping giants" of the rock world for a long time to come. I am a little disappointed that I didn't get to hear anything from Undertow, but it's Tool, so who cares?! Thanks for coming back to Spokane guys. It was wortevery second of the wait. FYI This was not Tool's first time in Spokane. They played at Gatsby's during the summer of '92 with original bass player (from Spokane) Paul D' Amour. A friend of mine ran the bar at that time. There are tapes of the show floating around town. You just gotta know where to look. Love, Peace, and TOOL!

This was this reviewer's 2 Tool show

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. Tool lovers if you missed this concert you missed out!! This is my second Tool concert. My first was at Lalapalooza (spelling) in '97. The concert that they played here was awesome the band hit every note right on key and Maynard kicked ass! The whole experience was cool. The acrobatic people were amazing and went right along with the whole "Tool style". (The wierd videos, lyrics, etc.) If you ever have the chance to see Tool in concert you had better get off of your ass and spend the money on the tickets to go see them. The only disappointing thing about the two Tool concerts that I saw were they didn't play my favorite song--Prison Sex!!!! Maybe next time they will play it!?!? Thanks Tool for putting on a kick ass concert once again!!
