Hey.. first Tool show, long time fan. Set List (I think...) Sober Grudge 46 & 2 StinkFirst Opiate Interlude Disposition Reflection Triad Parabol Parabla Lateralus So.. don't quote me on this (kinda messed up) but I think that was the set list. Very happy to see 46 and Opiate.. sad to miss Aenima, but that was worth it. Amazing show.. the trilogy of Dis/Ref/Triad was brilliant.. nice work with the second drummer (electronic drums). Heard he was the drummer for Meshuggah... unfortunately I didn't hear Mesh... took forever to get into the building, searching everyone.. kinda pain.

Anyone who is not inspired at a Tool concert has something wrong with them. And for all those who bitch about the set list, fuck off, all bands play pretty much the same set on their tours. Tool is no different and the whole stage show is based upon those set songs. Tool is not a band, they are a state of being, a state of living.

the set list for Calgary was slightly different then the one they played on Edmonton. They did not play Opiate in Edmonton and played Aenima in Edmonton. The calgary show was much louder then in edmonton and the crowd in calgary was much better. the second drummer was the drum tech in calgary but it was meshuggah's in edmonton. either way, they were much better in calgary.

Hey, well this was my first tool experience, and OH MY!@! If that wasn't a spiritual experience I don't know what is. Tool opened up with Sober, in turn the place filled up with smoke. After that they slammed into the Grudge, and after that, I lost track. It was just so gripping, Maynard even played some guitar for a bit and a guest drummer came out and did some cool shit with Danney. Lots of stuff to look at, Just damn good. I don't know what else to say, its impossible to put into words. Maynard's voice held up very well, and he pulled off some great screams!!!

The Tool concert was just as enlightening as I had imagined it. None of my friends are Tool fans but next time Tool comes to Calgary I'm going to literally drag my friends to this show. The acoustics were awesome. The lighting was awesome. The video screens were outstanding (although there was a minor glitch in the right one for a little bit). And of course, the music was outstanding as well. The only thing that came to me as an upset last night was that the person I bought the tickets off of (the first day they were on sale) told me that someone had already bought all the floor tickets then last night it seemed that they could've fit at least 100-200 more people down there. But besides this the night was perfect. Not as much drugs as I had expected though...oh well.

1st show in Vancouver was amzing. (even with a sound system that couldn't keep up) 2nd show didn't let me down either...sound was excellent after the first minute or so. I heard that Danney was looking for a signed Jarome Iginla jersey before the show but they didn't have one in his size...heh I need to see them in a smaller venue now.

i made it right of the front of the barrier directly in front of justing and danny. meshuggah ground out thier tunes for what seemed like only a few peopel on the floor, but their mix wasn't all that great and their sound , although loud and caucophonous was a little muddled and distracting at times. i was hoping that the lack of peopel on the floor might have meant that the scalpers and ebay sellers were stuck with unsold tickets....if that were the case i would've probably wished i had brought a lawn chair to lounge in with the 40 peopel on the floor. thsi wasd not the case however (obviously). the anticipation of the concert came to a fast pace when the techs drew back the clovering on danny's drum kit. it looks amazing. i won't give it way, but drummers and musicians and fans alike will be impressed just at how the drums look. i think he's melted down cymbals or somethign to cover them...that's all i;ll go into. the setlist as stated is correct (as i was tossed one after the show (one shoudl anticipate that the band will scrunch them up and chuck them into the crowd when it's over...so good luck to you). i was right in front of the stage and hence would have to bend my head back a coupel of feet to try and get a glimpse of the video screens (so what i gained in seeing the band...i may have lost in terms of another medium...oh well). maynard was clad in leather , and as usual was pretty much behind the scenes, which is great for the tool fan in some respect because it gives everybody equal footing in fronting the band. i guess it's very egalitarian behind the scences as well... maynard was dressed in leather, he looked and stomped aroudn and had a very gestapo esque look about him (minus the blatant fascism of course). i will probably post a follow up (as i have class to get to)....but it was an incredible show. ideally, i wouldn't mind seeign the band without and opening act if it meant they would play more songs...but regardless fo what they play and don't play (hell the last time i saw them play "crawl away" was in 1995) the show is energetic and amazing....and very tripped otu as well. you actually get a sense of what the band is getting at artistically (and outside of the realm of diatribe or dogma or politics). the music (especially "disposition, reflection and triad) takes you from fueled energy to serenity to favourite places of your childhood to flashign personal images and personal anecdotes. i suppose that the entire show does that, it's a journey that ellicits so many vast and different emotional, and physiological responses. enjoy yourself at the show you go to! dave

Show was amazing (anyone surprised?). Messhuggah was ok...they sound better on cd, especially Chaosphere...great album. I was front row the whole show about 5 feet to the right. Caught one of Meshuggah's drummer's sticks and a water bottle from Justin. Amazing setlist. Wished they would've played Aenema. Tired of idiots saying 'i wish i was on shrooms' and garbage like that. If you get Tool...you won't need drugs, trust me. Tool is the next level of thought. Tool is the next level of life.

Saw both shows, as well as Ottawa and Hamilton. Calgary Show was the best of all four. The crowd was intenses all the way up to the nosebleeds. Danny Carey stole the show once again. His hand speed it really quite amazing! Meynard was up to his old moves, convulsing and gyrating like an Alien. (Anyone seen the movie signs?) Either way this band can really produce live, that is when they are not mailing in a performance. They need to adjust the setlist a bit more since the Lateralus CD is now fairly old. The set is almost predictable with one or two changes. Meshugga is definatley an acquried taste. Don't really know why TOOL picked them to open since most of the feedback has been brutal. I guess TOOL likes the fact that they don't answer to anybody and don't play by normal rock band rules? Either way Meynard is not form this earth! Kid Canada

I'd just like to say that TOOL is fucking mad gay for playing the same set this tour as they did last.....TOOL has gotten so fuckin' queer w/ their Lateralus bullshit and I'm so pist I bought tix for shows that I've already seen the same shitty set for. I wish TOOL could be more hardcore and dedicated like their sets were in the Summer of 98 when TOOL acutally kicked ass and hadn't sold out yet for money w/ Lateralus and TOOL Army... Fuck you TOOL...you've gotten so radio- friendly and fucked up over the past 2 years.... -Dave Dmr976rmd@msn.com Please e-mail me if you have any comments on how I think TOOL fucking sold their souls to fucking the music biz...

hey dave~ ya ever notice why TOOL doesn't ever get any decent radio coverage? because they won't change their already perfect 7 or 8 minute songs to fit the N'Sync/no musical talent/fake, watered down, three minute shit that the radio and MTV love to play. If you're such a hard core TOOL fan then you should know the lyrics to hush....."i can say what i wanna, even if i'm not serious!" TOOL can play whatever the hell they want and if you don't wanna go see them you can wait until Creed and Pod go on tour. FUCK YOU you fuckin homo, look at all the radio friendly bullshit that has come out in the past couple years. TOOL has gone soft? Maybe Slayer will make a comeback, they wouldn't sell out for ya!

I'm not going to post the setlist because I know I don't remember it correctly. Me and my 2 friends were the first people on the floor so we got front and center on the fence. Messsuagha wasn't as much to my liking as I had hoped, but they weren't to bad. After about 45 min of them the roadies came out and set up Tool's stuff, then the show began. For any of you out there that have never been against the fence at a general admission show, you should know that there is a great deal of pain involved. I've got bruises all over my arms and ribs, but it was well worth is. Nothing like seeing Tool 15 ft. away from you. They all played so well, and I never knew that danny was that fast!. They put on an amazing show beyond anything I expected. The best part was Lateralus, and after that they had a group hug then threw stuff into the crowd. To my luck, I caught one of Justin's water bottles!! I'm so happy, thanks for such a great show.

Setlist Sober The Grudge Stinkfist 46 & 2 Schism Parabol Parabola Opiate -Intermission- Reflection Disposition Triad Lateralus This sho was better than Edmonton for me. I was way up in nose bleeds but the atmosphere was perfect. Loud at the end of songs and when the band first came on, the audience was really into it (The Saddledome was almost sold out) But when the band played, it was silent and a few scattered yellers. Amazing, my girlfriend and best friend (whom is a rocker through and through) were in complete awe the entire time. Silent. During intermission my friend turned to me and said; "Dude, that's some fucked up shit". I just laugh. Maynard was dressed in all leather tonight and ahd a diferent stage attitude than last night. His vocals were up to snuff and the sound rang in the amazing accoustics of the building. The visuals and the set were awesome, I especially like the lights. I don't think the crew gets enough credit so kudos to the crew who work so hard to get that show going. It is thanks to you that Tool is able to share their gift of music with us. So amazing job guys! Lots of smokign pot was taken place, how fitting. I'm not saying I didn't partake in the festivities. No problems with were I sat ( and I did sit, until the end when I stood and cheered). Danny Carey still gave off the vibe that he is a great drummer and his percussion interlude in Stinkfist, (it was quink) blew my mind. When the black curtain falls right when The Grudge kicks in, I heard my girlfriend go 'Oh My God' and thinking about it now. That transission and the revealing of the huge backdrop was truley a moment to remeber. The Grudge and Stinkfist were my two favorite songs of the night. I was a treat that they played 46 & 2 and Opiate. Since I saw them last night for h. and Aenima. So it was a treat. No Pushit though. Hey I aint complaing. Stinkfist added lyrics and extended bridge rule. I want them to relase a studio version of that. But if you recorded this show email me. The audience really got into Opiate and started singing along which always makes me happy. I would just like to say Reflection and Dispostion are really cool, especially the banners that drop for Dispostion. That miage of them dropping stays in my mind and makes me liek the song way more. I sat in awe and silent for those two songs. Watching on the edge of my seat. Just like everyone around me. The show was like a drug, it got me high. If that makes sence. It captures your soul and plays with it, then gives it back and says. "Now what?". That is truely the magic of Tool. And Tool defiently uses the power of music to it's full potential. The show endedon Lateralus, what a good song to end with. It left me wanting more but yet I was satisfied. I hop they come back soon with a new show and new songs to play for us. I anticipate anything they do. I must see them again live. Even if I have to kill for it. I hope to all of you that saw it, that it changed you and made you a better human being. I think I changed. I was glad to hear Maynard say 'Think For Yourself, Question Authority". Really boosted me. Well guys thas enough out of me, know that it was amazing and somethign to be seen with your own two eyes. That Is All

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

Hello, As mentioned before, this is my second Tool concert I've attended- the first one I saw was in Vancouver last November (2001). I'd have to say, this show, was by far- much better then the last. The stage arrangement, the sound, the lighting and the art was mind boggling. To see all of this was such a rush, I had been waiting so long to see them again- although my seats were not as good as the last time. I noticed that the crowd wasn't as encouraged as the last concert, and maybe this affected the band's performance somewhat- but I still think that they did a 100% good job on their songs. It might have just been their additude tward the canadian fans? for example, when Maynard first said "Good Evening" the crowd cheered a bit, then he repeated "Good Evening" again, almost in a way of showing us that our enthusiasm wasn't what they expected. Changes in songs, such as Stinkfist, Schism and others were simply amazing- I hope to soon find out where I can find an audio recording of them. Which brings me to my next idea- If you do know where you can get one, or any other live Tool performances, either audio or video PLEASE contact me- derrykblair@hotmail.com. Three of my closest friends had attended the concert with me, all of them huge Tool fans, and I sure appreciated their readiness to come with me- We travelled about 6 hours from Creston, BC to see them, which was well worth it. One thing that made me angry was the fact they took away my digital camera before I got in, which was oober gay, because it wasn't like i was going to take pictures and sell them on the internet- I only wanted them for my own personal enjoyment... to have those pictures of Alex Grey's art, and the lighting, would have been amazing. I suggest to everyone, Tool fan, or not- GO SEE THEM LIVE. THEY WILL BLOW YOUR MIND. Peace, Love, Tranquility, Derryk Blair PS: Messugah wasn't that great at all. They were worse then the last opening band i saw, Tricky. (Thats a big insult btw)

Hey you! OK why does everybody keep saying ohh i wish tool would play this and i wish that tool would play that. UMMM grow up and deal with what you get. There is a reason they play that same setlist. The entire laterlaus record is in the same rhyme scheme and they have progressed. They have evolved from there past. I mean look at how much the music has changed from record to record, it's all about moving through, gaining something from them. Maynard once said that he considerds the shows as a gathering, they are much more of a sacred ceremony like. They are about seeking truth. You should gain something from the experience. I'm sure there was alot of moshing in 96 or whenever but now it's time to reach out and embrace the random and to let the music pass through you and let the words spill through you, and to feel this holy body and holy expreience, and that you choose to be there. You should embrece that moment and remeber what you felt and to do something positve. I feel if you cant do that then you are missing the entire picture. I'm i am just sick of hearing the same old shit about how they sold out. espically from all you one-track minded sheep, In order to understand someting use must see both ends of the spectrm or see all sides you could say, otherwise you become judgemental about something and sound like a jerk-off. so before you go running your mouth, you ought to take the time to think about and understand what you are going to say! Then you might understand that they are 4 guys who do what they do and you must have a sense of humor about things. Thats all i have to say about that CADDYSHACK

Nobody wants to hear you bitch, if you want to hear certain songs at the concerts just listen to them before you go in to the show. Their so good life that it sounds almost the same as the cd. So in conclusion shut the hell up or listen to something else.

The acoustics in the building were awesome, I was up in the nosebleeds (I could actually touch the back wall), and the sound still rocked me. It's an amazing feeling to be in an arena with thousands of people who are experiencing the same emotions, and feelings as you, seeing their mentors on stage leading us through, above, and out of our daily lives, the daily drone, to share this moment. I managed to get floor tickets and found myself to be right in front of one of my heroes, Justin, for the entire show! It was an amazing experience especially hearing the opening boom of "Sober" that made my night. I only had one propblem with this show, and that was the guy who was right behind me yelling, "NO WAR!!! NO WAR!!!" in my ear constantly and shouting the wrong lyrics so loud that I couldnt hear Maynard myself. If anyone else knows the guy I'm taking about you'll know what I mean. I know everyone experiences and interprets a live show different but just try not to ruin others experiences. Man I was in awe the whole car ride home until I got this message from my 2 best friends (who I didnt see all night strangely) saying that I had thier tickets in my car and they were pissed that they didnt get to go. I was in shock and phoned them immediatly and we worked it out, and apparently there was some miscommunication. Anyways I am obviously crushed that they missed another Tool experience (they were with me for the Vancouver show) and now I'm out $120 for the tix. Damn. I hope they come back! Matt PS - I was just wondering if the other guy who was behind me got lucky with that crazy chick who took her shirt off ya you know who you are!!!!

This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

This was my third time seeing Tool, and probably my least favorite of the three.Due to the fact my seats sucked compared to Row 5 seating on the floor for Vancouver and a general admission floor ticket in Edmonton the night before but it was still a great show even if you are in the second level 20th row.Still I did enjoy myself greatly and thought the show was well worth the 60 bucks I payed for this ticket. It was great to see Tool playing up here I never thought it would happen after hearing Maynard tell fans ''Tool would never play this city again'' back at a show which happened when they supported Undertow which I unfortually did not attend but some guys I know did. Thanks again Tool for an amazing weekend, seeing these guys back to back was amazing and something I will remember for a long time. If you get the chance to see these guys on their final tour supporting Lateralus I would recommend you go see them. Take care everyone.

I was standing approximately 25 feet from the stage, right in the center. I was a bit too close to see the projection screens, but the backdrop basically formed the entirety of my view, which was definitely advantageous to the experience. I can tell you that I spent almost the entirety of the show watching the drummer. Those drums were absolutely, unequivocably at his command. He played them with such thundering power and intensity and raw technical ability (I'm a drummer) I couldn't help but being moved solely by the drumming dynamics and technicality displayed many times throughout the night. The pounding presence of those drums was absolutely overwhelming. The 2nd chorus through finish of 46&2 was easily the most powerful, euphoric, surreal experience I have ever had. My high was just peaking and the buildup brought literal tears to my eyes. They have such an excellent skill at crafting dynamic and tension...the drum solo near the end magnifies the tension by 1000%, only to have it finally culminate in the driving, shrieking explosion that is the outro to the song. I felt inside of the music. I felt every ebb and flow of dynamic the band crafted like I was a mass of kelp in the ocean feels every ebb and flow of the water. It felt like it was pulling me apart but into itself -- almost like I was disolving in the entirety of the experience. I felt like I nearly exploded at the extended rendition of Stinkfist, building incredible premonition musically coupled with the added orgasm like quality of a crowd waiting for the best part of a song -- "I'll! Keep! Digging!" The mantra hit me like a train. I felt every fibre of intention that Maynard's lyrics were speaking to me of -- desensitization, overexposure -- a Kafkaesque sneaking suspicion of "I know I'm lost". My mouth and likely entire face and body would contort with the culminating points of the music, like the tug of the undertow of experience suddenly yanked upon my body harder, like it was becoming more like I was part of the external experience and less like a seperated individual. I identified with the spiritual journey they were trying to induce (successfully in me), a message of hope, of optimism, of positive creativity and creation. A local paper called the concert depressing and impossible to enjoy. An experience shared for the sole purpose of positivity is misinterpreted by pop-pandering, 3-minute song Suckers of Satan's Cock (to pilfer from Bill Hicks). So, to sum up, it was good. Very, very good.

Awesome show...i was on the floor about 2nd row for most of it and let me say that i have never experienced such an intense show. For the most part the crowd was really zoned out and i think about 3/4 of them were high. At one point this idiot started getting mad because people were squishing him against the barrier. Give me a break man, it's a concert...go home if you cant take it. Set list was the same as other shows but instead of playing h. and aenima they played forty six & 2 and opiate. Was kinda hoping they would play The Patient but oh well. Maynard was decked out in black and was stomping around which was pretty cool, and Danny speaks for himself. I finally figured out how the hell he plays that last bit of drums at the end of the grudge! All in all a masterpiece and i hope they come back to calgary really soon.

MOST of you petty people make me sick... if you didn't get what you wanted out of the show such as hearing a particular song or a whole dream fucking set, having the perfect seat, not being near "potheads", not practically getting beat-up, not seeing your ideal opener, not being able to appreciate talented musicians despite the fact they were not playing the sound you wanted to hear instead of pouring their souls into the music THEY FELT and identified with, didn't get that special momento, didn't enjoy the sound in what ever venue they were in, etc.,etc., etc. TO FUCKING BAD!!! I have one word for your ungreatful whiny neophytic asses KARMA. Period stop with you self-pity and washed up desires it don't get you nowhere just let go immerse yourself in the rythmns of life and goddamn it FREE YOURSELVES FROM YOURSELVES.
