A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: October 24

From: shade@paradoxnw.com Subject: Tool: Tacoma show well, I didn't have tix, but decided to take the day off work and drive 30 miles to the venue anyway. After 20 minutes of wandering around the parking lot, I picked one up for $10. The gods were smiling today... After the cows gave it their best, much do the dismay of the general crowd, we had to endure an almost Trent Reznor caliber wait for Tool to take the stage. The MC apologized after a while, citing Technical difficulties. Maynerd had a different story: " we were all backstage playing Monopoly and completely forgot there was a show tonight. There's only one thing to say about the performance, and that is TOOL ROCKS THE FUCKIN SHIT!!! This was my first time seeing them, and I was amazed. They're incredibly tight. That whole kundalini idea makes a lot more sense after seeing Maynerd on stage. He was most of the stage presence, but more than made up for the others. Here's the set list: Stinkfist 46 and 2 Intolerance Eulogy Hooker with a Penis (Preceded by "This is a song about getting more than you bargained for.") Prison Sex Jimmy Undertow Pushit Sober Opiate Aenima I was about 15 feet from the stage the whole time, and Maynerd definately did do the whole intro to Eulogy through a megaphone(?). Sometime in the set, Maynerd introduced Justin, and then said for those wondering where Paul is that he just finished an album called (he didn't remember) in a prject named (I can't remember) but that it would be out in Jan. on he thought Volcano Records. Incidentally, the venue they played was the field house (Gym) for a private college up here. Very small, comapared to your average arena. Amazing. Wow. My body will hate me tomorrow, but well, I wouldn't have it any other way. - -shade
