A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: November 12

From: Skitzogrrl@aol.com here is my review/opinion of the wonderful Tool concert: I saw Tool in St. Louis at the American Theater. As soon as I got there I saw the drummer, Danny Carey, standing outside the theater talking to what I assume were some fans. I was dumbstruck and couldn't think of anything to say, so I just stared at him, he probably thought I was retarded. I am still pissed at myself for that. There was a large amount of old hoosiers who just wanted to beat people up in the mosh pits. They set the atmosphere wonderfully. We got inside just in time to see the Cows. They were a little too loud, and rather unpopular, but they took the insults well. Tool came on about 9:00 (I think) and I soon forgot about the Cows. The lights went out and the background started moving, it was the cover of Aenima, and it looked like fire. Maynard came out soon afterwards, in his boxers. First they played Stinkfist and after that I don't know I was lost in the whole ordeal. My favorite song that they did play, however, was Opiate, the moshing then became very severe. Maynard had incredible energy, I thought his voice would sound like shit compared to it on the CD's, but it was as haunting as ever. Some people are strange, Maynard was explaining Jimmy, how it was about abuse, and people were cheering. While they were playing the screen behind them was playing their videos and other things. I liked the ape-man and the elephants were rather interesting as well. Maynard was really into it, he looked like a puppet being jerked around by some big demented child. Danny is massive, his drums are wild. Justin and Adam didn't do much, but since Adam is so sexy and they play so good, who cares? It ended abruptly about 10:30, everyone kept cheering, but they didn't come out again, that upset me. I guess Tool doesn't like St. Louis. Maybe they will come back anyway.
