A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: November 14

From: LuvGreyhnd@aol.com I saw the Chicago show last night at the Aragon Ballroom. Maynard was his usual self, writhing onstage with raw, sexual energy. He was on top of his game, and his voice lost only shades of nuance on only a couple of songs. There is no one like him in rock right now--his voice is total power and control. The acoustics were dicey, but the band managed to overcome them and delivered a pure musical experience. It is probably the best show I've seen in 15 years. I like Justin Chancellor--didn't think he could equal Paul D'Amour, but he can and he melds with the rest of the band seamlessly. I didn't like the way they did "Aenema," but it was the last song they played and they were clearly tired. They did a superb job of "Pushit" and "Jimmy" and of course played three favorites from Undertow. If I had the time and money, I'd be following them on their tour. Can't say anything bad about the boys! They're the best band signed to a major label, no question!!!
