A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: November 30

From: gareth powell (gpowell@rogerswave.ca) Subject: nov 30 toronto show it was a foggy night on lake ontario and in "the warehouse" exicitement was buliding. Phycotica had whipped the pit dwellers into an adiquate frenzy with their unusal stage presence. Anticipation of the appeance of the band was at at a high, then maynard appeered in full body make-up half blue, half white. during the inital appluase i heard the guy behind me say "my god, he's naked!" but in all actuality he wasn't. they played and pandemonium broke out! i worked my way to the pit as they began "stinkfist" and found myself infront of Adam Jones, who was painted blue from the waist up i admired his playing skill for most of the show as i was forced closer to the centre of the stage during "sober" i recived a nasty boot to the head which made everything a bit fuzzy but i remember standing in awe during the intro to "sober" as maynard made weird sounds with a drum skin and a marker, as adam manipulated feedback with his guitar.then they broke into the song with conviction and the place when nutty again. i especially liked the remark maynard made towards "muchmusic" regarding the restricted status of the "Prision sex" video (only on special occasions do they play it).finally the ended the show with "aenima" (which got everyone going again). In my opinion tool is far better than when i saw them at lollapolooza '93 they seemed to have evolved in to a band that has more staying power than the psudo-alternative bands that are played on the same radio stations. and i had the cash, i'd go see them again tonight (dec 1). as they cleared everyone out of the building, "Genocide" (from london, ont) pulled up and played for about 15 min before the pigs cut their generator. there a good band, so check them out if you can. gareth "growth" powell.
