A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: December 3

From: Travman26@aol.com Subject: Tool in Washington D.C. Well, last night I made my first venture to The Capitol Ballroom in Washington D.C. to see Tool for my second time. Tool was fantastic--The Ballroom sucked! Please Tool if you read this review "don't play the Ballroom again". It should be called the Capitol Gymnasium. The place is in a bad section of Washington, it's impossible to see the band, and most of all the acoustics suck. It was great once I put my ear plugs in to drown out Maynard's voice scraping against the cold walls of the place. There was no sign of Maynard having any vocal problems this night. His voice and the tightness of the band was incredible. Hell, anything that could make me forget about the crappy Capitol Ballroom had to be incredible. The only thing I was a little disappointed in from the band was that they didn't play '4 Degrees' or 'Sweat'. Two of my favorite Tool songs. I thought they sounded really good on "Eulogy", "Stinkfist", "Sober", "Opiate" and "Aenema". As many of the previous reviews say Tool played "Cold and Ugly", but not in D.C. Maynard was painted half in blue or black the entire show and during certain songs he used two mics to get some awesome effects. The crowd seemed to pulsate with every snakelike movement of Maynards. The rest of the bands instruments were as amazing as Maynard's voice. I really miss drum sets like Danny's. It's nice to see more than 3 drums hooked together for a drummer, unlike most of the other suck bands with their one beat in every song. Adam's Les Paul sounded amazing. Some of the stuff he plays really shows his raw talent as a musician. Justin, the new bassist, really seemed to fit into what Tool is about and he really seemed to enjoy playing. Oh by the way, Psychotica opened, but since it took us forever to get to the show I missed them---and I don't care either. Thanks Tool for not disappointing and hope to see you in the Spring (Hopefully in Baltimore or the 9:30 Club and not the Capitol Ballroom) And also a special thanks to you, Kabir, for having a great page to find tons of information. Keep up the good work guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
