A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: December 6

From: (bfl100z@mail.odu.edu) I recently attended the Dec. 6 show at Grady Cole in Charlotte, North Carolina. Tool played along with the opening band Psychotica (spelling?). I had seen Psychotica play before, and they were equally as terrible. The acoustics in the Grady Cole gymnasium were terrible, and the volume appeared to be turned up a little loud. The high shrieks of the guy dressed in the grey condom and the girl\boy with horn hair made my ears bleed. My hearing was so screwed up by psychotica, by the time tool got around to playing, everything was distorted. I sat above the floor to better hear the music, and when tool come out, the place went crazy. I particularly enjoyed the opening rumble and movie projectors showing the square on fire. Tool overall sounded as good as possible when playing in a lunch box type enviornment. I could still understand maynards words of wisdom. I thought the body paint and strage dancing of maynard was a nice touch. Highlights were Stinkfist, Eulogy, Prison Sex with it's extra verse, Sober with it's extra long intro, and of course opiate and the sing along section. I was glad to hear opiate, because i thought they wouldn't play anything from the first album. Overall it was a good show under the acoustic circumstances and opening band catastrophe. Ben Lieb
