A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: December 7

From: daveman@ix.netcom.com (Gary Akins) Subject: TOOL Dec. 7 Atlanta, International Ballroom Won't.bother.you.with.the.setlist.and.any.of.Maynard's"between" song quotes" as they've already been posted repeatedly. HOWEVER, my friend and I got to the IB early and were about 15 feet from the stage, patiently awaiting the start of the show when all of a sudden some guy completely looped out on PCP (I guess) starts doing some frightening salsa/breakdance/Michael Jackson mutation of a dance in front of us... eventually a large crowd gathered around him and started throwing loose change and various other trinkets at him... this guy was rolling on the floor, spinning on his head, doing all this crazy shit, and to tell you the truth, he made a better opening act than Psychotica, whose lead singer had a lead singer-of-Living Colour hairdo, and sounded like the guy from Queensryche, not to mention he had sparkly shit all over him and was wearing the previously mentioned skintight plastic thing. Anyway, eventually they got the fuck off the stage and we waited impatiently for Tool to come on stage. After that everything was a blur... I was trying to watch the band but couldn't for more than two seconds at a time without some fucko pushing me or some bodysurfer kicking me in the head... The one thing that stands out about this show that hasn't been mentioned was during "Hooker.." when Maynard sang "shove that fucking finger up your ass..." alot of people up front gave MJK the bird, to which he gave a little smirk... he seemed amused at least in the slightest. Anyway, the show rocked although I froze my ass off walking back to my car, being drenched in sweat and all... I'd just like to say to that PCP guy wherever he is... GREAT SHOW MAN!
