A Review of the Fall 1996 Tour

Date: December 14

From: twhite@exit1.i-55.com Subject: Memphis, TN Show December 14 Kabir, Sorry the review was late, but I noticed that no one posted any comments. We (Kevin, Wes, Rennan, & Dad) drove from Mandeville, LA to Memphis on Saturday morning, arriving in Memphis around 12:30 pm. After finding the Omni New Daisy Theatre on Beal St., we walked in. It was early in the afternoon and the raodies were setting up Tool's equipment. We were able to walk around inside for a while before someone with the "Management" realized we were not with the show and made us leave. After waiting at the front door for 5+ hours and hearing Tool's awesome sound check(Sound check set list: Intolerance, Sweat, H, Swamp Song, and Stinkfist) we finally were allowed into the theatre. Psychotica opened the show to a nearly silent crowd. It was the least active pit that I have ever seen. The dude from Psychotica was wearing a giant rubber and jumped into the crowd several times, but could not get the crowd into their music(?). The only time he got a rise from the audience was when he thanked Tool for allowing them to open the show. After a 30 to 40 minute wait the show finally started with Stinkfist. It was awesome, it was my Christmas present, it was incredible, what else can I say. Maynard was wearing white long john bottoms with a small dotted pattern painted on his head and down his back. Justin had red blood drops painted down his chest with one large one around his belly button. Adam's face was painted. Danny was unpained and just played the crap out of his drums. I saw Tool In New Orleans in 1994 and this concert was definitely worth the wait. The set list follows and is in no particular order: Stinkfist Eulogy H 46 and 2 Pushit Sober Swamp Song Prison Sex Opiate Aenima Rennan caught one of Danny's drum sticks and gave it to me. I am Danny's biggest fan. We went behind the theatre and waited for Tool to enter their bus. Danny came out and I was able to meet him, talk with him, take my picture with him, and have him sign the drum stick that Rennan caught. What else is there?
