This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

The Grudge (-) Ions Stinkfist (Extended) Parabola Schism (Extended) Ticks and Leeches Sober Triad (With Mike from Ozzy Osbourne's Band) Ænema Lateralus I think that's all the songs they played, but it's out of order. Someone correct it if you can. The show was amazing, and the visuals were incredible. MJK had a wide black stripe painted from the top of his head to his neck. Before Ænema, Maynard thanked everyone for coming, and said he hoped we had been inspired in some way by something we'd heard at the Ozzfest. They'd better come back next year. They're the great band (live or otherwise) on the planet right now.

Wow, what I can I say?! Goddamn amazing. They blew away the rest of the bands, even Ozzy. The order of the setlist was: The Grudge Ions Stinkfist Parabola Sober Schism Tickes and Leeches Triad (w/ Mike Bordin on extra drums) Aenema Lateralis Maynard played guitar on Schism and Triad and thanked Mike Bordin for the guest drums and said he was currently playing with Saxon, which was pretty funny. Sober and Aenema were my highlights, but the whole performance was faultless. Also I'd like to add that I hope the prick who kept shouting for Slayer all the way through comes to an unfortunate end. Learn to swim bitch!

The images were brilliant, sound was superb, just like thier albums. They stole the show, and made the whole day what it was, brilliant. System of a Down were brilliant too. And Drowning Pool.

wow, typical slack pomes hay, cant quite get there shit together in time, well so it seems. Ok, here isthe setlist Intro Gudge Stinkfist Porabola (short intro) Schism (long) Sober Ticks and Leeches Triad [with "mike currently a saxon, formaly of duran duran"] Anemia Laterlalaus Well, so it was a long journy over to the Uk for us, we left Patriks house in Dusseldorf at 5:30am on the 24th, direction Oostende. Due to delays, delays, delays and well, more delays we made it into london by an early 11:30pm. We left our mates in London at about 9am the next day and managed to be at the venue, after getting heavly rained on by about 2pm, well I cant rember exactly but it was just after Cradle of Filth had played, and the rain stoped. This place was fuck off out in the middle of nowhere but depsite the wheather it was kool. Everyone was there for a head bang so aafter slayer left the stage to the constant chant of "Slayer, Slayer, Slayer........." SOAD took the stage but had to end their set 5 songs early due to the rain. So SOAD left, and while the Tool rodiaes were setting up things started to clear up nicely! there´s that psychic power u all doubted. As soon as Tool kicked off with the Grudge the whole crowed went dead, well compared tto the last 2 bands we just witnessed. Otherwise I quite liked the shows. Maynard made a few nice coments to the crowd about how to keep warm but the highlight was when Mike Bordain (spelling?, but u know who I mean) joined the boys for triad. The sounds system was fucking huge but Tool looked like the only band who actally took advantage of it, other than that there were no projecters in use today except for the 2 large tv style moniters left and right stage as well as a 3rd one huge over the middle of the stage. We left early in the hope of getting a train back to london so we didnt see ozzy screaming "oi, oi , oi" and clapping his hands every song. The bus was fuck off slow back to nottingham so we missed out train to london and blew all chances of getting to luxenbourg for a Gomez gig we had planned to catch as it was impossible for us to go to the Irish Ozzfest, well anything short of hiring a car and driving but with the insurance preuims for under 25´s we would have been better chartering a flight from the airport next door. Well, ok, enough from me, so I say high Patrik ! and it seems that once agian Ireland will elude me :( and I look forward to chilling out here in Berlin for a day or 2, so ill c u all in Katowice! cheers Jamie

Ozzfest UK...a complete bogg of mud. For the first time in a while (that i know of) it was too cold for maynard to wear just shorts. He stood in front of a purple background in a long black leather coat. They started with The grudge and instantly they were the most HI-fi like band of the whole festival. Their sound was perfect. The whole crowd had been jumping around all day but as soon as Tool came on and started playing. A calm silence and respect came over Donnington. The crowd were dead still as they appreciated every sound coming from the stage. They played Stinkfist second followed by other hits including sober, shism, aenima, ticks and leeches and triad with the guest drummer and maynard on guiter. They finished with Lateralus and a group hug after the last sound. Clearly Tool had confirmed that they still are the best metal act in the world and pure musicians. Even though they were only on for 1 hour 1/2 they still were the best band all day. Rock on Tool

Well, what can i say? It was the second time I have seen Tool at the Uk Ozzfest and yet again they completely blew me away! The performance was stunning and virtually faultless (as always) and the sound was probably the best and also loudest of the day! I was the tiniest bit dissapointed that the setlist was almost identical to last year, but the addition of Ticks & Leeches and the awesome Triad made up fot that! I really wish i bcould'vr seen tham at Brixton. Apart from Tool though the day itself lacked atmosphere, and the organisation was absolutlely shocking! Having paid over £40 for my ticket and an extra tenner for camping i was expecting to atl least to be able to get near to the front to see my idols close up. But NO, for some reason the area at the front was surrounded by a fence and stewards, you needed a separate wristband to get into it, and only 4,00 were given earlier that morning! It is seriously a joke. We asked about wristbands for the show the night before and got totally blank and gormless responses from the stewards!! Had we known about it we could have queued up and got wristbands! What annoys me most is that the area itself was fairly empty and therefore thousands of people couldn't get in to see whoever they wanted to see! Anyway i'll stop complaining now and say that besides Tool, Slayer's awesome speed and incredible drummer were the highlights of an otherwise cold and wet day.

Hi. First of all here is the correct setlist-i took notes 4 i am sad. Low Buzzing noise The Grudge (-)Ions Stinkfist Parabola Schism Sober Ticks and Leeches Triad (w/ Ozzys drummer) Aenema Lateralis This was a fu*king awesome show, especially seeing how bad some of the other bands were. System of a Down came off early due to band weather, so tool seemed to do a little bit longer than was planned. I had read the setlists for all the previous shows on the ozzfest tour so i was really surprised when they did Ticks and leeches as well as sober. And i went completly mental when they did Aenema, it's my favourite song and i was not expecting it. The videos were excellent(although a pornographic at times) They played some of the same videos as they did on the last tour, the video for Stinkfist was the same as it is on the promo clips, as was the Schism video. For Ticks and Leeches they were playing the video that was used last year during 46and2. I think most of the other videos were the same as they were last year. As per-usual, Maynard was playing a Steinberger guitar during Schism and Triad. The band were not as elusive as they normally are, scince it was broad daylight. And Maynard was talking to the crowd quite a bit. He had 1 single blue stripe down his face. Justin has much longer hair than he had last year, Adam is as scary as ever and Dannys arms were a blur as he played. The whole band grouped together for a group hug at the end. EXCELLENT

well i'm not going to post the setlist again because people have already beaten me to it... This is the second time i've seen Tool in a festival environment and despite the shorter setlist they were still amazing. Thankfully by the time they took to the stage the rain had stopped and the crowd had calmed down (i'm still recovering from bruises from System Of A Down's set!) so i could actually just stand and watch them play. I was kinda dissapointed by the lack of Parabol before Parabola - i still think that they sound better together, but that's the only bad thing i can think of. That and the fact that the screeens were not raised up so people at the back could see the visuals! Badly organised festval all in all really. But Tool made up for all that by playing a great set. Hihglights for me were: Ticks And Leeches - i have now heard everything from Lateralus live thanks to them playing this on Saturday. It sounds even better live! Triad - seeing Mike Bordin up there with them was amazing! and Maynard's comments afterwards were cool ("Mike, now of Saxon - formerly of Duran Duran."). Aenema - always blinding live. I wasn't expecting it really so it was a nice surprise. Lateralus - because this song always manages to bring tears to my eyes. It's a wonderful closer to their gigs. And hearing it as the sun was setting was even more amazing.... mind- blowing even. This time around Maynard was much more talkative, making a few comments to the crowd. Another memorable one is "Are you cold? Put your hands in the pockets of the person in front of you to heat things up a little." . In conlcusion - brilliant set from Tool. Bad organisation from Doningtion.

My third time seeing Tool was again awesome and overwhelming! Ijust saw them at brixton so to see them twice within 2 weeks was a real treat. I was slightly annoyed because every song they played I had already seen them perform before; but they were still worth the £50 entry fee. The performance was very strong I thought MJK's vocals were better than when they were at Brixton. Danny's intro to "Triad" was unbelievable the way he built the drums up 1 beat at a time. Adam and Justin were their usual awesome selves. Apart from the amazing music/art that they struck us with one of the highlights for me was the group hug at the end. Maynard seemed very appreciative of the crowd and was very vocal in his thanks. After the hug even Adam smiled and waved to the crowd!!! Ive never seen Adam smile before im my life!! :) I truly hope that Tool will be amazing us like this for many more years.

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. Well this was the 4th time i've seen tool (and second in two weeks) And once again they were awesome. The highlights were for me TICKS AND LEECHESi love this song, and it was the first time i'd seen it live, aenima (suprising, as they haven't been playing it much lately) the grudge, parabola, and sober. I would have loved to have got a lot closer to the stage but that whole wristband thing fucked it up (a wwhole different story) All in all though the band were awesome, they only other that even came close to them on saturday were slayer. (Wish lombardo had done triad, would have been mental) I hope that they come back soon, but i think it may well be a bit of a wait now.

Well well what can i say? So Tool think they can come over to Donington and steal the show do they? OF COURSE THEY BLOODYWELL CAN, THEY'RE THE GREATEST BAND ON EARTH! Setlist: The Grudge (-) ions (shortened) Stinkfist (extended) Parabola (without parabol) Schism (extended) Sober Ticks and Leeches Triad (with Ozzy Osbournes drummer) Ænema Lateralus From the moment Maynard yelled "wear the grudge like a crown" I knew the hour that followed was going to be the best of my life, and I was right. The grudge was played excellently with great visuals, the best visuals of the set. After the short (-) ions we were given the wonderful stinkfist to fill our ears with, Absolutely stunning song played stunningly well, with an extra verse I've never heard before, if anybody knows the words to the extra verse could they email them to me please, I'd be very greatful. Next up was Parabola, I must say I was a little bit disappointed that it wasn't preceeded by Parabol but I soon forgot about that as it was played fantastically. Schism was played very movingly, had the crowd gripped especially during the line "cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers." The intro to sober gave me pimples, it was truly chilling and was a great part of the set, it had everybody singing along, definately a crowd pleaser. WOW what came next had me gripped, I hadn't expected it at all, TICKS AND LEECHES!!!! This is one of my favourite Tool songs and although Maynard once stated that he'd never perform it live I was aware that he had done once or twice, but when I downloaded the bootleg of it the vocals were awful, but here at Donington it was truly perfected, it was played tremendously well, definately the highlight of the set for me. I can honestly say I never thought I would enjoy Triad as much as I did during this set, I hardly ever listen to it normally but they totally amazed me. I saw Maynard pick up a guitar and Ozzy's drummer take up the extra drumkit, This is the greatest instrumental I have ever heard in my life, I couldn't take my eyes of the stage. Mind Blowing! I was also quite surprised to hear ænema also, I don't know why but I really wasn't expecting it, just as well really as the surprise made it all the more brilliant! This song had the crowd going more than any other, virtually everyone was singing to this one. A great ending to a great set came in the form of Lateralus, had my foot tapping to the fibonacci sequence and I was very sad yet fulfilled when it came to end. Tool then stood at the front of the stage and had a group hug! How moving! I would say that the band conducted their art well, especially Maynard who looked great with his black suit and thick black stripe running down his face, I was also impressed by the way that during some of the songs he was motioning like the people of the stinkfist video. On a final note I would like to say fuck you to the people who decided to stand right in front of me blocking my view half way through the set, and thank you to the Tool fan who saw what was going on and found me a great space near him. Go see Tool Alex

Danny was on fire all the time when he played triad with mike it was godly i was in awe. pity bout the crowd though, as my pal said it was as though they had all been told that they were to go to the showers in aushwitz. It truly was a sensual experiace to see tool again. i spent 80 quid on that ticket and bus down from glasgow purly to see tool only more or less. I was getting food as the buzzign came on be4 the grudge so i ran as i could thrrough the bog that the groungf had became with a bacon bagette in my hand to get to the front of the stage. Anyone see my baggete in the air during the grudge lol? i liked the way the stage was set up the band surrounded by the monitors thought that was really cool, ticks and leaches was good cause it was atleast audible the words unlike other times ive heard it live. Alot of what I was gonna say has allready been said so I wont bore with setlists etc. I spent the previous three bands fighting for a good position to stand, and I managed to get a realy good one, I could see the whole band and the visuals perfectly from right near the left barier. Awesome show, nice to hear ticks and leaches and aenema which werent played at the monday brixton show I went to. A great highlight to a fairly badly organised and badly billed festival, nice to see a few tomahawk t shirts though.

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. After a long day of fairly average music and/or noise Tool apeared on the stage to my undeniable excitement. Things started off really well and they had the best sound of the day. What follows is the setlist and some of Maynards quotes: The Grudge: "Good evening, if your feeling cold take your hand and put it in the person's pocket standing next to you". Stinkfist: Extended to about 8 mins and Danny played the intro effect just before Maynard sang "I'll keep digging". Parabola: No Parabol just straight into the hardcore part which kicked ass.The ending was just unreal and bone crunchingly heavy and evil. Schism: They played a really extended version where the music stopped before the solo and some really hypnotic/trippy chanting appeared, not good of your stoned because it really scares you. Triad: Totally unexpected, but a great surprise, joined onstage by the Saxon drummer paying piccalo/tabla drums i think, but the weed had really kicked in by now."That was some dude formerly of Saxon possibly of Duran Duran". Sober: Justin played the really evil bass effect before the third verse, god i love that. Ticks and Leeches: This song was totally unexpected and possibly the greatest of the day, the mellow section was cut to 8 bars with Maynard singing "Suck me dry" in an operatic style. Aenima: Maynard did the usual speech about communication and "Thank you for you patience and whether you liked the experiance or not, go be inspired and create something" etc. Justin really rocked on this one, the most i've ever seen him move and it looked really cool. Lateralus: A spot on version absoluely fantastic, Danny hit his gong mid way through and scared the shit out of me, i thought it was a really low flying plane. Does Danny hit the gong during the recorded version of Lateralus, if so when and i will go and discover a new sound. Thankyou for reading.

Tool made the day worth it all. With a sound that blew me totally away after System Of A Down's poor sounding, but great in every other way, set. My highlight was 'Ticks and Leeaches' cause I havent seen that one live before. Maynard seemed to be singing into the microphones of his guitar during that song. To get that midrange, rough voice. About Ozzfest UK in general: poorly organized! I went from Sweden for this, but now I wished I had gone for the doubleshow at Brixton instead (I had to choose). Tool were the only band that really blew me away. But hey, I get to see them at Ozzfest Stockholm soon (I hope for 'Jimmy'). One more note. I really like the mix of people that enjoy Tool. I saw old couples as well as kids wearing Tool-shirts and were singing along to the songs. Stay safe all of you!

Tools set was amazing as usual, I would have liked to have seen a few new songs, the setlist was an ickle bit similar to last years but hey! The crowd showed them respect and the weather cheered up...Maynard was incredible, with a huge black stripe down his head.....Highlights were Stinkfist's magnificant reception and the strangely fitting Aenema...Did he change the words to fit? Im sure I heard "Fret for your warheads and fret for your towers..."

Tool were amazing! they definetly got the best sound quality out of all the bands I saw. System of a Down finished early, so tool did a longer set. they did Ticks and Leeches, Soebr and Aemina, which i didn't expext as they didn't do them at other Ozzfest dates, and that made an almost perfect setlist. When they came on I lsot all pain in my legs. Maynard was, according to my freind who had seen them before, relatively talkative. he said something like "Is everybody cold, if you are put your hands in other peoples pockets to warm up," which made the crowd laugh. i'll definetly see them again as they were amazing.

Wow!!! the only reason I went in the first place was to see Tool (and because I managed to get a free ticket at the last minute - Thanks Ami), and they didn't dissapoint. I won't bore you with how much fun I had, but suffice to say it was better than Ozzfest last year and probably better than the first night at Brixton that they played recently. Certainly the best time I have seen them outdoors. I am however, sickeningly jealous of all the people who went to Dublin and got the extended set. I went home about 2 songs into Ozzy, because although he's the man and everything, you just can't follow Tool. No one can.

I have been to ALL Tool's English dates this year. Everytime I have come away feeling envigorated, inspired, elated, dissapointed (that the shows over) and millions of other feelings that can and can not be put in to words. For a long time i have thought Tool are indescribable in terms of finding fitting words to describe the feelings they give you either live or otherwise.. I could go on for hours and hours about how Tool are now way past an obsession for me and how thier expression, art and seeing them live has changed my life, BUT.... I recently got pointed towards somthing as part of an assignment for University. I genuinley think I have found a simple way of expressing what Tool are doing for a lot of us who search and search for the words to try and describe what affect Tool have on us. Punctum Do a search or somthing and hopefully some of you will aggree..(maybe some wont, but it works for me..) Tool at Brixton, Donnington and everytime I hear/see them give me punctum. RJP.

I flew from New York to see this show, mainly for Tool, but also for System Of A Down of course, not to mention I'd always wanted to be at one of those giant European festivals like you see in Rage Against the Machine videos. It was odd seeing Tool playing in the middle of a field in broad daylight...the lights and visuals are a lot cooler in a darkened arena. It also seemed as if the Brits did not appreciate Tool nearly as much as we did at the 2 shows at Madison Square Garden this past October. Even in the pit, right in front of the 75ft high speaker towers, a lot of people seemed bored. In fact, it made me downright angry to see how in-fucking- sane these people went when Ozzy came out as compared to their reactions to Tool and System. Of course Ozzy is a legend, especially in England, but Tool and System are arguably the 2 greatest bands around right now and they got relatively lukewarm reactions. Daft gits.

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

I saw Tool last year at the Barrowlands in Glasgow, and they put on such a good show that I went all the way from Glasgow to Donington to see them again (couldn't make it to the Brixton shows because of exams). I was pretty annoyed with the way the event was organized. There was a semi-circle at the front which was blocked off and reserved for the first 4,000 people to get there, meaning- no barrier for me :( What made it really annoying was that the place was half empty during Tool's set. Anyway, I had to settle with my position at the barrier of the semi- circle. Although it took quite a bit of work to get there, it was the equivalent of being at the back of the Barrowlands (where I saw Tool last year). Also, the sound had not been quite up to scratch all day, sounding very buffety, and overly quiet as points, so I was beginning to get a bit worried that the day might not live up to my high expectations of it. Tool came on, and everything changed. The sound was perfect, and Tool did very well at establishing an intimate atmosphere in the large open space. Maynard had a blue striped down his forehead unfortunately kept all his clothes on, but I can't blame him, it was bloody freezing out there! He made a joke about putting your hands in other people's pockets to keep warm. The setlist was damn good, with a strange extended silent bit in Schism before the buildup to 'between supposed lovers'. Not sure if it was a mistake. They only played two songs which I hadn't seen live before: Ticks and Leeches and Triad. Ticks and Leeches was fantastic, a lot better than the other live recordings I have of it. Maynard didn't use the same wavering voice effect he normally does, and it sounded a lot like the album version, which I was glad of. Triad was also great, with Ozzy's drummer on stage playing the additional drums. The exact highlight of the night for me was during Aenima. The buildup to 'Im praying for rain..' gets me every time. Overall, Tool's set completely surpassed my expecations, although the Barrowlands show last year still holds the title of Best Concert Ever for me.
