This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

It's trite by now to say that Tool rocks, but they do, and tonight's show was no different. Unfortunately I don't exactly remember the setlist, but here's my best guess: Sober, Flood, Grudge, Stinkfist, Schism, 46&2, Parabola (no Parabol), Patient, Aenima, , Reflection, Disposition, Triad, Lateralus. Somone'll give more specific details. More notes: t-shirts are the standards - $30, and stickers were $10. Ouch. Most of what you read of the previous shows applies to LA as well. First two songs are dimly lit, Maynard comes out , eh?, then Grudge... We got out glitter during Patient. The artwork was great, and the screen clips were the usual great footage. So overall, like I said, Tool rocks, and the show was great. These guys are just about the tightest musically I've ever seen. Hats off to the guys for pulling this off. Like most other fans I talked with, I was apprehensive about seeing them is such a large venue, but the sound was fine, though the bass was a bit low at times. That's what you get for sitting too far back. The entire production, however, was hypnotic. For some of the technical details... I couldn't tell if Adam was using an Epilady for Triad. Did anyone else catch it? That song, by the way, was one of the best live performances I'v seen. Adam also used a delay pedal to overlap the middle interlude in Schism. It was quite nice. The whole cadre of Disposition, Reflection, and Triad was astounding to see... They originally envisioned them as one gigantic song, rumor has it, so to see them played without a break was a treat. For all of you who decided to skip this tour, you're missing out. The whole experience is something I'm not able to put into words. Robert Plant once said of Zeppelin, "It's not that we're the best band out there, it's that we're so much better than whoever's second." We should now say that of Tool. Thanks, guys. -mdp

Can't remember the exact order of songs, but here's what they played. Some are in order... Sober Flood The Grudge Stinkfist 46 & 2 Schism Parabola Aenema Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus Think that's all of em. Anyways, it should be assumed that all Tool shows are amazing, so I won't go on and on about how great everything is. I'll just point out some highlights, thoughts, etc. Sober is a much better opener than the Grudge, but of course, no song is a better opener than Third Eye. Period. This show had the best visuals out of the 3 I've seen. They were extra creepy, and the lights were perfect. Maynard is getting really mellow, but I guess that goes with the APC and Lateralus thing. I just hope their next album is a little angrier cause I miss the "somebody throw that Bob Marley wannabe motherfucker out of here" Maynard. Speaking of... here's his quote of the night - "Los Angeles huh? Sounds more like Sacremento" ...oh and another one - "Anyone live in Arizona?... Too bad" and then the "hey"s for the intro to Aenema, which is pretty awesome to see live in the hopeless fucking hole. Speaking of LA, I missed Tomahawk due to the clusterfuck of traffic that I had to go through to get there, but I guess I should have been at the venue 5 hours early. Sound quality gets an A+ Fans suprisingly get an A this time. I only saw ONE of those annoying fucking laser light pointers. While Lateralus is a damn good closer, I think they should switch it out with Parabola, since they play the videa along with it. It's even more amazing live with the big screens playing it. Funniest thing the whole night was while I was walking out I heard a guy say "and then there were 2 drummers on Triad" to which some girl replied "yeah, wasn't that sexy?" A couple more thoughts... Mogwai is the perfect thing to listen to on the drive home from a Tool show. Dredg's new album, El Cielo, is fucking incredible. It hasn't been released yet, so try to download it somewhere. And by all means see them live! Oh, and Glassjaw - Worship and Tribute is pretty badass too Shameless plug.. of sorts... If you're an aspiring musician with ideas/concepts about music and wanna start a band, email me... or if your band needs a guitarist and you're into concepts n stuff, email me Think that's all I wanna point out... sorry for having such a self indulgent review ;)

i didn't like the opening band, i wish i had earplugs. during aenima maynard waved while singing 'some say the end is near some say we'll see armageddon soon', so i think he was waving 'bye bye'. there was a guest drummer with danny, the guy from the melvins, and that was cool to have two drummers playing at once. it's nice to have so many people come together at once, and tool is a very inspiring band...and maynard thanked us for the support a couple times, and said he hopes the band has inspired some of us in the audience to take it to the next level, and do something positive. at the end of the show, maynard threw a bunch of water bottles into the crowd. the show itself was wonderful..tool music is beautiful and easy to get lost in. it's like listening to their cds in your room in the dark, but a lot louder and more intense. i don't know the setlist, sorry.

Well my day was a trip to hell and back. I stopped by the forum early just to drop off some TOOLUNITY.com t-shirts. Feeling great to have the opportunity to give the band some love from the fans, my day seemed to be unfolding well. Adam sat and watched as I handed out shirts to the crew, as I tried to stay calm. All of a sudden, the head of security wisks me away to a room. I am asked all kinds of questions about how I aquired the shirts, and if I knew some bitch who turned out to be some stalker. After asking me several questions, they finally felt good that I was not connected. I left feeling weird, and went back to my friends to pre party. Stalkers make it so fucked for us because the band deserves their privacy, yet most likely likes to meet us too. Whoever you are lady, thanks a lot, you fucked me and TOOLUNITY. Hope you never are allowed in again. Sober Flood Ions The Grudge 46&2 the patient schism An Enima disposition reflection parabolla Triad Lateralus Jack Osborne and Billy from APC were on hand for the show. See you all in Tucson

DID YOU SEE THE GUY WITH THE THREE MIGETS ON THE FLOOR. ONE GIRL WAS WEARING A ZEBRA-SKIN THING, THE OTHER TWO WERE TWINS. THEY WERE WEARING THE SAME OUTFIT AS MOST TWINS DO. THE FUNNY THING ABOUT THEM THOUGH, THEY WERE JOINED AT THE HIP. IT'S REALLY NOT FUNNY, BUT EVERY TIME THEY WALKED BY, ALL YOU GUYS LAUGHED AT THEM. IT TOOK A LOT OF COURAGE FOR THAT 4'6" BALL HEADED ASIAN WITH ONE LEG TO BE SEEN WITH THOSE FREAKS. HAVE SOME COMPASION FOR THE PEOPLE STANDING NEXT TO THEM, I THOUGHT YOU WERE LAUGHING AT ME.

The show tonight was pretty tight. They sounded awesome and Maynards stage presence was way better this time around. I got to hear 46&2 which was pretty fuckin badasss. The set list was pretty good. They had a 5-10 intermission and when they returned they played reflection triad and dispositions. They are pretty good songs but i don't think they should play them in a concert. The adrenaline was really high when they played Aenima but the concert reallly slowed down and lost its momentum when they had the intermission and then played those three songs(triad, disp., and reflec.) After that they played Lateralus and the momentum picked up and then the concert ended. So ther first half is defenitley the best and the second half loses a lot of momentum and the end was anti-climatic. They needed to do encore. But hay i wouldn't have missed it for the world. They are the best band out there and the stage the second time around was fuckin great, the lighting was way bettter. Two suggestion for Tool interchange those three songs and the show would have been hands down the greatest show and second encore. It gives closure to the concert because everyone was gettin back into the show when it ended. Either do on or the other. Please when you comeback around can we get Jimmy or Hooker with a Penis on the Set List. EVERYONE YOU WILL BE STOKED WITH THE SHOW AND DEFENITLEY GET RIPPED BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER the show itll make it better with the affects.

One of the best Tool shows I've seen Keenan asked "Los Angeles huh?" "Sounds more like Sacramento" Keenan looked like he was painted with henna. I figured I will probably have to wait a few years before Tool comes out with another album and tour so I can see them again. A tremendous experience of a lifetime. I was so close, Danny could shake his sweat on me. I didn't do any drugs tonight so that I may remember the show

First of all, many people got the setlist wrong for it was diffucult to remember the order of songs while in mid- orgasm. I took the liberty of writing them down so that I could review the show after, and it goes as follows: Sober Flood Stinkfist 46 & 2 (Intro to:) Schism Parabol(no lyrics) Parabola Eon Blue Apocalypse Aenima Intermission -- Mantra Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus This monster 15 song setlist spanned almost 2 hours, each moment full of energy and delight. I was a little disheartened by the absense of H. , which they had been playing earlier this tour, and Pushit which they had played in the previous tour. But Kabir tells me not to tell my dream setlist so I'll go on. Maynard was more animated this show, moving about on his little platform and speaking more. Previous shows he remained mostly stationary. The sound system was great at the Forum, much better than the outdoor arenas in Irvine and San Diego. You could hear every quiver in his voice and feel the ground tremble every note. There was a rain of metallic confetti during the Patient, which was kind of cool, and the lighting was similar to previous shows. The new art was great, and used with some of the old art of previous shows, created a whole new experience. This is my 3rd show and the feeling and experience hasn't diminished at all since the first, and have fun to all of you who will be seeing them soon!

I can't believe I'm one of the first. Great f'n show! Tool is unbelievable! How can they deal with the fact that they are such badasses? Anyway, here was the setlist- pretty standard from the first couple of shows, with a few twists. -Sober -Flood (no intro) -Grudge -Stinkfist (slightly extended- tight!) -46&2 -Schism (Maynard on Guitar) -Parabola (sadly no parabol) -Eon Blue Apocalypse -Patient (badass!) -Aenima (badass!) -- Brief Intermission-- -Disposition (All 3 had Maynard on Guitar) -Reflection -Triad (Dave from the Melvins came out and played drums with Danny- they sounded awesome. Probably the highlight of the night) -Lateralus (amazing amazing amazing) I thought the crowd was awesome! L.A. Rules! I saw Tool in Albany last year and the audience paled in comparison. Other highlights from the show included Maynard asking the audience how many people were going to Arizona with them. Not enough people cheered and they went right into Aenima. See you down in Arizona Bay! I missed the intro to Flood (it's so raw) and I wish they would've played Pushit or Crawl Away. Opiate also would have been tight, but hey, can you really complain after seeing a Tool show? Thank you Danny, Justin, Adam and Maynard. You are absolute magicians. You inspire thousands and thousands of people everyday. note: 46&2 might've been somewhere else in the show, but it was right around there.

didn't anyone think the disco ball during lateralus was the funniest thing? the lights on the disco ball assembly were white at first, then red+yellow...("black and white are all i see, red and yellow then came to me"). I was disappointed that they didnt play H or Eulogy...Flood was the only song that i hadnt seen them perform live... I also think the irvine show in november was better. the visuals and eye candy on this tour are, however, quite superior to the last one. disco ball...watch for it!

the setlist posted above by "Tool Forever" is the corrrect one, in the correct order. (yeah, i wrote it down). anyway, oh. wow. obviously, TOOL was beautiful. tonight was really special for me though. it was one of those shows at which i really connected to the music, physically and spiritually. it was fantastic. Tomahawk was great, although their sound mix was off. they opened with "Flashback" and closed with "Point and Click." 101 North, Jockstrap, POP 1, God Hates a Coward and Laredo were all in there as well. i think Tomahawk's performance in Bakersfield on the 11th was a little better. so, Dale Crover on toms during Triad! :) that was a nice suprise. i must say i was hoping to hear john from Tomahawk play with danny but...Dale was great. ok, that's all. another beautiful show from Tool. 9 years of seeing them...it keeps getting better (albeit different). more beauty, more inspiration, more thought. wonderful. thanks again guys. it was very special.

Setlist is up there, they got it right, wow this was my first Tool show, and I've read a lot of the reviews over time, and everything they say about how incredible Tool is live, is absolutely true, theres really nothing you can say to justify the masterpiece of a show they put on, it's breathtaking, and that's all there is to it.... And that thing Maynard said about hoping they inspire someone out there who will spiral off it and take it to another level and do something positive.. I hope that some day that's what my band will do, I feel like I owe it to Tool to pick up where they will someday leave off, they certainly played a crucial role in changing my life. My band is still really new, but we're dedicated ane quite serious about taking this all the way, on one of the big things we're going to need is exposure... Maybe one day we'll open for Tool, or maybe they'll even open for us :) But like I said, we're new, and we have quite a long ways to go before scratching the surface of Tool's genius.. If anyone would like to hear some demo clips that my band's jammed up so far, I'd be glad to send them, like I said, we need exposure, I think we have a pretty unique sound. E-mail me, or message me on AIM or ICQ, AIM: Blink182is4girls ICQ: 4863313 I hope all of you who were there tonight enjoyed the show as much as I did, and to those of you who didn't get to see it, it really is an experience like no other, and I hope you get to see them in the future, they add so many things to their songs that aren't in the studio versions, it was all simply amazing.. I'm going to turn it for the night, thanks for reading my review, catch you at the next LA Tool concert! Peace...

The only thing that piat me off was when i took a picture of Maynard and a security guard punched me in the face and took my camera, well this was my first Tool concert but it was fucking awsome. i dont remember the entire set list because i was exhausted on the florr getting crushed but they opened with sober, then flood, the grudge, 46 and 2, stink fist, i dont remember everything but they played parabola, aenima, the patient, and they closed with lateralus. i know there was more but i am too tired to remember it all. Just like I told my cousin... I don't care how long you've known/listened to Tool.. '94... '95 whatever... if you havn't SEEN Tool then you ain't never heard 'em... Sorry but thats FACT! Any reviews you read... doesn't matter. You HAVE TO GO!!! That aside... You're askin me.."So what was this one like huh?" Is that what you want to know...? all right, this is the best I can describe what I saw... so here we go: We got Sober 1st with a video I aint never seend........After everyone sorta calmed down.... they played Flood! without the long opening,,,, kept everyone hyped up... I remeber The Grudge, , We had 46&2, Aenima... always great in LA... :) - thats about it off of aenema, I dont think they played shxt off Opiate... You got a lot of Lateralus... You got The Triads, The Dispositions, and some of those Reflections... Oh my god....it just goes on... even if you read the whole setlist... it cant describe it... The Visuals were beyond "Fxckin Nuts" - for lack of a better expression... so...that pretty much sums it up... Final Words/Thoughts: Security was cool as ice for the first time in my life - dude didn't even fxckin frisk me...id figured they'd at least take off my shoes & shit. I remember Airport Security back when they played the Ampitheater like 4 years ago. I figured it was going to be strict as hell...Oh well... There was an intro to Sober (merkaba) which everyone missed. I've seen TOOL at The Wiltern, Verizon Wireless and now Great Western Forum. This concert Topped off VerizonWireless (irvine) But i don't think any Tool Live will top off Wiltern The sound there was just so balanced in everyway, aucoustics, and the place was so small we were much closer. But EVERY TOOL show has been bliss and this was no different i loved all the new and partially Alex Gray Produced artwork as with every show, they are just so full of ideas, concepts, and creativity. Which band in this day and age has had songs that spanned into a 13 minute trance? Tool WILL go down in history every show i see just reminds me of that over and over again. during the show MJK said "Thankyou for reminding us that we are here for a reason" and to add to that indeed they are. They are here to set the standard of high quality everything, if there was no number one then we'd never know that number 2 was any worse. They are and will be considered legends, to be compared with Led Zeppelin, Jim Morrison, Pink Floyd... and many others... Thankyou

Before arriving at the show, my friends and i stopped at a nearby fast food restaurant. The employees behind the counter were covered with 2 inches of what I'm assuming was bulletproof glass; likely a remnant of the Los Angeles riots which decimated both Compton and Inglewood. Everybody in the restaurant, staff and customers alike, were among the most friendly people I've ever met - a stark contrast to many of the Tool fans on the floor of the Forum. I'd like to express something now that I was unable to during the concert. To those of you on the floor (you know who you are, and seeing as your simian level of brain activity has likely caused you to become bored already, I'll make it simple) who exhibited a complete lack of regard for anybody but yourselves, FUCK YOU. There were several occasions in which people in front of me fell to the ground, unable to withstand the barrage of selfishness which manifested itself in disgraceful acts. For the first several minutes, I was paying more attention to my attempts to shield those in front of me from harm than I was the music. There were girls, who, due to the brutishness of others now have several bruises that didn't exist prioor the show. Others had their piercings torn from their faces. We all continued to get knocked around until I finally retreated to a somewhat more tranquil area about halfway through, but I was too angry at this point to think about anything else and thus can remember very little. To those whom I was unwittingly flung into, I’m sorry. The same to those whom I was smashed against. I liked Triad, Lateralus, Reflection (which most of the pushier members seemed to calm down during[they seemed bored]) and the Alex Grey art, but most of the show eludes me. I don't pretend to know the meaning behind every song in the Tool oeuvre, but I do happen to have quite a few opinions. Those opinions don't have anything to do with preying upon the physically week, simply because they want to see a band that they happen to enjoy and have secured a good vantage point from which to do just that. Let's use a line you'll all know, even if you don't like Tool: "rediscover communication between supposed brothers." Remember that one? Apparently not. I suggest a solution. I don’t know if the band happens to read these reviews, but if that is the case, please consider what I have to say. I propose that instead of leaving the floor a pit, seating installations be installed, so that those on the floor have designated viewing room. There will surely be those who complain that such a solution would prevent them from enjoying the show to it’s fullest, and while weary of those who don’t consider the music fulfilling enough, I’m not entirely unsympathetic to such protests. Perhaps there can be a designated place toward the back of the floor for those who feel the need to bash each other’s skulls in to do so without distracting, angering and injuring those who are not interested in moshing, but the music instead. I love Tool and I can think of few bands who exhilarate me even nearly as much, but I was completely unable to enjoy this show. The music was wonderful, but a handful of people on the floor ruined it for me. It’s something I’ll get over. But it’s also something I’m going to fume about for quite some time until I do. Oh, and one more thing. If you happen to BE one of the fore mentioned selfish bastards, I’d appreciate your e- mails. We have some things to discuss.

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. Tomahawk was quite good. They sort of reminded me of Shriekback. I enjoyed them. I agree with the earlier insightful comments of rchrds. While I truly love Disposition & Reflection (I think they are classics), they slowed the pace. Perhaps they could be at the intro or at intermission, I don’t know. I’m not sure if this concert was better than the Fall 01 show that I saw at Irvine, however, it was definitely just as good, and well worth it. It was different. I agree that Maynard was much more active and far better this time around. My favorite moment of the night was when Maynard pauses in Stinkfist …’I just need…to feel…to breath…to know that I’m alive…’ and deadpans to the audience without moving a muscle. Genius! Cannot tell you anymore about this show. Just go. Tool is the best band and best live band. And now, I have to go… ‘forty six and two are just ahead of me’…..

we had colonnade tickets when we got to the show, the upper level...previously i had been screwed out of floor tix for the bakersfield show because i was forced to go to church with my parents on a thursday for a relgious holiday...anyways...when we got to the show a guy offered us 2 pit tickets for $140. my friend said that he would pay and so we got them...while waiting in line to get in for the pit we decided to have our tickets tested and the gate guy scratched them and said they were real...so we decided to help out another tool fan by selling our two tickets for a total of $40...when we got to the front where they were scanning to let people in for the tickets our tickets wouldn't scan...they were counterfiet...NEVER TRUST ANYBODY...i don't know...i would never do that...anyways...we had no tickets...we went to the box office and bought horrible seats, but at least we would be inside...they were 2 for $80...we walked to the line where i saw the guy that sold our tickets too...and i asked him if i could buy them back...he said he had sold them already and that he felt bad for us so he'd try to see what he could do...we traded him our shit tickets and then gave him $120 for tickets that were 50 ft. away from tool...and so it goes... i liked tomahawk...patton gives the band an amazingly strange energy... tool setlist...from what i can remember: 1. end of merkaba? + sober 2. flood 3. the grudge 4. ions + stinkfist (extended version) 5. mantra + schism 6. end of parabol+ parabola 7. 46 & 2 8. eon blue apocalypse + the patient 9. aenema 10. disposition 11. reflection 12. triad 13. lateralus maynard was in little underwear and painted blue with orange veins on himself...the funiest thing that maynard said was "i know this is LA, but who here is from Arizona?..." and then he went right into Aenema...the backdrops and stage effects were amazing, and Tool is so good live that it is just like turning on the cd full power...thank you tool for turning a horrible experience into a great one. Tool proves for me once again that they are one of the greatest bands around and that they deserve all of the success that they have.

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

Well, for the second time I really enjoyed seeing Tool . The show was great. Even better from the second row getting my ass squashed. I only lasted through the first 5 songs up there. I was the guy getting carried over the crowd in the green T-shirt . Did you see me? But it was great none the less just to see them that close. I then stood on the platform that covers the wires for sound booth. It added another 3-4 inches to my hieght which allowed me to see everything. Maynard was just fantastic to watch. His stage antics are just incrediable. He came out with his body painted blue with yellow and orange designs. Then the music started. Sober, Flood, The Grundge, Stinkfist, 46 & 2, Schism, parabola, Eon Blue Apocalypse, The patient and Aenima. It was nice and heavy. Man it was good. Then it slowed down with Disposition and Reflection. Which sounded good, but I would of perfered it to stay heavy. Then came the great drumming of Traid. Danny and some gentleman, I forgot his name, sorry, once agian put on a great display of percussion. Then Lateralus which ended the show. The order maybe a bit mixed, but it's really close. I really can't comment on the visuals because I had all my attention on the stage. Didn't notice them too much. Overall the show was better then the first one for me and I can't wait for the 3rd show. If you were thinking twice about see this show. You better think again and go. Experience it, you will be glad you did. TOOL, YOU ROCK!!!!!!

Amazing show, better than Nov'01 in Irvine (except this time around there were no contortionists and no "Ticks and Leeches"). A visual masterpiece, good sound, great setlist, and very tight songs, with the only minor hiccup coming near the end of the Grudge (did anyone else hear that?). Overall, they showed once again why they are the best rock band in the world and most entertaining live show going these days. Now I could go on and on about this all day, but I think my point would be better conveyed by sharing a little personal story. I brought my girlfriend, who has never been a fan of Tool, to this show on our 1.5 year anniversary. Frankly I was a little worried that she would see it as a chore and be counting the minutes to the end of the show. Let's just say that wasn't the case. Not even close. She walked out of that show with the biggest, most beautiful smile on her face. She told me with earnest and sincerity that this show ranked in the top 5 she has ever seen. Now given that she doesn't own a single Tool album and had never really listened to them before, well, I think that speaks volumes to how great of a show it was. She was entertained in every sense of the word, and walked out of the concert a bona fide Tool fan. I hope this little story inspires someone to share a Tool concert experience with a friend or loved one that they otherwise might not have thought to bring. Thanks for reading. P.S. Oh yeah - happy anniversary baby! I love you.

Finally, I got to see TOOL live. This concert was amazing. They extended most of their songs which put myself and my friends in a trance that lasted the entire show. What metal band can do that? No one but TOOL. I think they chose Inglewood to play at because they know that place will and should get washed away. They're on a different level of rock. One that has no close second. I wish for them to stay around forever. This is our generation's Rolling Stones.

(with a twinge of Faaip De Qiad) Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus Overall the show was great as usual. I was sitting pretty far in the back and there was quite an echo. The visuals were stunning as usual. Maynard was painted blue and he spoke a couple of times throughout the show (unfortunately the echo made it hard for me to understand him). This was probably the best Tool show that i've seen so far. It was probably the most stressful day in my life too...It all started off at the KFC across the street. Its like a prison over there. Bulletproof glass, electronic doors to get in the bathroom. Thought only banks have that kind of crap not KFC. So that was really weird. He's one lesson i want to teach all u people DONT BUY FROM A SCALPER!!! I spent $140 for 2 tickets thinking the were for the floor..what really sucked was that i sold the tickets i bought like 3 months ago like at 5pm cause i thought i had real floor tickets. So there i was with a conterfiet ticket in my hand. Lucky for me that tickets were still on sale so i rushed to the box office and bought 2 shitty ass tickets(so that was like another $77). It was in the top section somewhere. So me and my friend started making some chit chat to one of these scalpers and we told him our whole story. All we wanted was better seats so what we did was we traded the tickets we have plus an extra $60 a piece for tickets like 4 rows up from the floor. They were great seats. So one thing i learned today. People=Shit. You can't trust anyone these days. The guy who sold us the tickets was lucky we never found him cause i was ready to beat the shit out of him. But once i got inside and calmed down everything was cool. They guy sitting next to us got ripped off from a scalper too so we weren't the only ones. I guess he just ran through the gates without paying, so i'm glad he got to enjoy the show. As soon as lights went down and Tool came on i forgot about how much money i spent to get in, i just enjoyed the show. Stinkfist was amazing.. probaly the best version i've heard of it so far. When he started playing Aenema i went crazy...the whole fucking place went nuts. They could have stopped the show at the intermission and i would have went home home happy. Traid was great, Lateralus was awsome as well it got the crowd going again after Traid. The set list for this show was great, i couldn't ask for a better one (enless they played Hooker). The sound there was great also..and i had great seats for the show. This was the best Tool show that i've seen and i want to thank Niyaz for hanging in there with with me. For all the shit we went through atleast we have an excuse...ITS TOOL Peace out

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

I loved the show and they were even better than I expected. The stage show is impressive, with 2 screens on either side, and a backdrop with different designs on it. At one point they had a couple of black balloon clusters in the back too. Maynard was on the a platform on the left of the stage which was also a display screen, showing what was on above as he walked over it. He was painted blue and barely wore anything as he pranced around moving like a contortionist. At one point he screamed for what seemed like an eon. Also there were wires that lit up which mimicked electricity and a huge disco ball above the soundboard which lit up the whole arena. Shiny glitter dropped from the sky during the Patient which added to the strange aura of the evening. There were videos and bizarre video clips playing throughout the show, and they never showed the band on the big screens. The level of musicianship was really fantastic, so every song was done well. Highlights for me were Parabola, aenema, and Reflection , where they brought out a 2nd drum kit and just jammed like mad! I also was surprised that Maynard played guitar on a few songs!! My favorite song was 46 & 2, accompanied by a creepy video. He thanked us for our support several times and also insulted Sacramento. At another point he asked everyone who was from Arizona to raise their hands ??! The funniest thing he said was while introducing the other drummer as the former manager of Bang Tango and currently auditioning for keyboardist for the Duran Duran reunion! This show was awesome, and now I really see why they are one of the best bands of the past 10 years. I only hope they play longer and maybe throw in a couple of covers next time.

last night was a journey into the mind and soul. this was by far the best show since the wiltern. i loved the new additions to the stage. the alex grey artwork was mindblowing. the faces with the skulls and the fetus, all points leading to death and life - showing how they are all connected. the first half of the show was just rockin. aenima was a defenite highlight. for a moment it felt as if all the energy focused within the forum could reach the heavens and persuade them to bring the water. i could see it bursting through the forum walls.... but the water never came. the second half of the set was the culmination of the journey. a truely hipnotic experience of what seemed to be some sort of masonic ritual. i can still see the eyes on the backdrop.... those eyes of knowledge, or were they the eyes of slaves? i dont know - but they were calling me. i was truely able to see the trio of disposition, reflection, and triad as one peice for the first time. for those oif you that think they are boring.... fuck, if you only knew. lateralus was a great closer, one last chance to lose myself between the sound. all in all, a great night. the psylocibin exploding in my brain helped it along nicely. until the next show ~ .v i ct o r.

Sorry, but after The Forum in Los Angeles, it just keeps getting better. What I didn't hear in Bakersfield and didn't miss in Oaktown or Sacto, I got at the Forum. 46&2, and this time unlike Santa Barbara in 98, I wasn't so stoned that it passed me by....Alright dude! I hope TOOL comes back to California in the Fall? Thanks for two UNBELIEVABLE nights and Spiral On.........After TOOL, the Summer Concert season seems to be complete, unless I catch another TOOL show. I'm thinking the Fleet Center in Boston, anybody feel like joining me? The following is previous released material but the only difference was the weather outside. WHAT A NIGHT! (x2) The temperature was hot and TOOL was the fuel that ignited one unforgettable evening of thunderous sights and sounds. Beginning with Sober, the band was as tight throughout the show as Danny's skins. I don't need to give you all the specifics on Set List's, because I know it will be repeated enough times without my input. I decided long ago, if I go to a concert waiting and wanting to hear certain songs, I'm destined to be disappointed. One thing I knwo about TOOL is nothing is ever the same! That's what makes TOOL the best at what they do. You wait to hear sounds that no other band delivers. You study lyrics because the music takes you physically with so much force that at times you feel just hearing that song will get you through another day in the shit. You not only hear Tool's music, you are driven by it. It's not the excellence of any one member, it's the fact that four unbelievably talented artist's can make music that has no order, no rules, and no equals. You simply can't find a more talented group of artist's, (and they are Artist's in every sense of the word) in their genre. TOOL lays down the foundation for one to explore the endless possibilities of the human mind and spirit, by awakening your imagination. Opening the door, you either grasp the Brass Ring and explore how much you really didn't know, or you close the door on your foot and talk to the guy who thinks Enema is really cool because the word F**k appears so many times. This is why you are here. You have survived. You will continue to pry open your imagination and it's amazing just how much knowledge and wisdom you've yet to discover. TOOL doesn't preach to it's fans. They reach inside them trying to get them to reach inside themselves. Whether they do or not, is not the point. The fact that TOOL is thinking on a higher level than 95% of it's fans isn't what makes TOOL the band they are. The power behind TOOL is in the sharing of that knowledge. It doesn't have to be Right or Wrong, but knowing the difference between the two is Knowledge with a Wisdom chaser. After all, I'm sure TOOL would like more than Four people at Arizona Bay? OK, five if you count Blair? (Ha Ha, I know you read the Email. Gotcha!) Back to the concert: Sorry for the interlude. I also drove 2 1/2 hours to get there from the coast but I'm still up and I'm not going to bed until the sun goes down! I took my honey, my buddy and an extra, (Sorry Wayne, I love ya Bro but I know you have heavier burdens to bear. Just isn't the same without you). It was an experience that if you have the chance to go to, I suggest you don't pass it up. For those of you planning to go this summer, nothing I could say would change that unless I was your best friend and said it wasn't as good as Scooby Doo, (No, I wouldn't see that in any lifetime). But then if that was my curve for grading, we would be pretty pathetic individuals and we would have no other friends. But you still want to know about the show, right? All I can say is this. I'm 43 and my baby's 38. From the moment we heard the first cord of Sober until the last bow by the boys after Lateralus, we were on are feet the whole time kicking ass with the band for the nearly 2 hour set. I must point out that we did have seats, (after battling cancer in my spinal cord, standing is a bit of a bitch at times) but we never used them. Even during the so-called intermission, but that would just make me kinda stupid, so forget I mentioned the intermission part. And even though I have little moment and control in those limbs, TRIAD was just too damn good to stay still. I'm sure the people behind us felt sorry for my honey. Although she kept yelling in my ear over the ball- busting sounds of Danny, "Run Forest Run." The lights, the sound, the experience was just another wonderful journey with a band I've grown with over the years. What was special about this episode was that, not only did I have someone with me that loves TOOL as much as I do to enjoy it with, she loves me as much as I love her. Thanks for being there with me Jocelyn. I love you! To Adam, Danny, Justin and Maynard: Thanks for the company through all the tough days and nights, the pain and the loss. Better days are coming, or at least Tidal waves........ Have great TOUR....Welcome Home! Cliff Ridley Pismo Beach, Calif.

This was my first Tool concert and just let me say "Amazing". Tool was so fucking good live it sounded like you were listening to the cd. Tomahawk was a pretty good band i have nothing bad to say about them. Ok going on to Tool, all the visuals were cool and just looking at the band play fucking rocked. Maynard never got off his little stage and he moved weird but it looked so fucking cool. I saw Maynard play guitar on a few song and i was surprised because i didn't know he could play guitar. As for the other band members, Adam Jones is a fucking badass guitar player and it sounds so clear. Danny Carey was fucking great he is a very talented drummer and his drum set was awesome. Justin Chancellor played the bass really really good and he looked badass. This is not the last Tool show i will definetly see them again. Heres what i remember from the set list. (Might not be in Order) Sober The Grudge Forty six and two The Patient Aenima Stinkfist Parabola Flood Disposition Reflection Schism Lateralis Triad

This was this reviewer's 19th Tool show

This actually was my 19th time seeing Tool, and as always, they never disappoint. Their performance at the Forum was outstanding, as usual. Although I managed to win the "ToolBox" passes from KROQ, I was disappointed to find out that the passes didn't give me access to be right up against the stage like they originally said they would. For some lame-ass reason, they put the "ToolBox" area right in front of the sound booth instead. But, oh well, I was still right on the floor about 30 feet back from the stage, and I had a great view. So, no complaints from me. Here's the setlist as best as I can remember: Sober Flood (no intro) The Grudge Stinkfist 46 & 2 Schism Parabol (short, w/ no words) Parabola Eon Blue Apocalypse Ænema --intermission-- Reflection Disposition Triad Lateralus I'm pretty sure that's in the right order. So, anyway, at what I think will be the only show that Tool plays in L.A. in the year 2002, I did happen to see a couple of people I recognized, namely Billy Howerdel from A Perfect Circle, and Jack Osborne (or course). The stage set up was awesome, I dug the new background and new visuals they showed on the screens. However, there were 3 or 4 banners that failed to drop, but I'm sure they were just a few more of the Alex Grey drawings of the human body in various stages. Maynard said all of his usual things he's been saying at the past several shows, and Danny played as good as I've ever seen him play. I really hope that Tool does come back around here to L.A. soon, at least once more before they put out another album (hopefully)!!! But, with a new APC album probably on tap for next year, we probably won't see Tool around here until 2004 at the earliest, if they even do put out another album, that is. So, that's it...great show..powerful as ever...spiritual as always...and I hope I get to see them again and again...

I just want to comment on those who complain about moshing. Seriously, if you don't want to mosh...stay out of the mosh pit! This is how GA shows go, and the fans do it because they enjoy it, and also because the band feeds off the energy. And check your ticket stub..."MOSH PIT FLR GA" clearly printed on it. Secondly, the pit was rough, but never vicious. Guys were slamming eachother one second, then picking eachother up off the floor so nobody got trampled. The only punches I saw being thrown were from people mad at the moshers. Only a few feet from the stage infront of Adam, this was definately the most fun I've had at a TOOL show since Lollapalooza in 1993. I anxiously await my next chance to see TOOL.

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

A truly spiritual experience. Absolutely amazing. The only bad thing about a TOOL concert is that it is something you just can’t explain to anyone who was not there. Going back to work the next or trying to tell your friends about it is futile as it is beyond words. I brought a friend with my this time and it is almost as fun go through someone else’s first time with them as it was my first time. Now on to the show. I arrived just as the last notes of Sober was being played, I learned a lesson for sure I will NEVER be late for a TOOL concert again. In fact I’m going to Salt Lake on Friday just to see them again so I can rectify my horrid mistake. Moving on the Flood, the Grudge and Stinkfist were so powerful when Danny would hit his bass drum and Adam and Justin hit a low note all at the same time it shook the whole building. Maynard was a little turned down for his big scream in the Grudge but was amazing the rest of the night. 46&2 and the Patient are definitely two of my favorites, the ending of the Patient was brilliant with Maynard having some kind of delay relay going on and he just belted those final notes. For anyone who doesn’t know Danny Carey is the best drummer on the face of the planet and if you have any doubts go see a TOOL show and you will be converted. I find a lot of there live songs have more of a tribal rhythm to them which reached it’s apex with Triad which was brilliant. Lateralus is the best ender without a doubt however I do agree with some others who said the intermission was too close to the end. A lot of people say down for intermission and disposition and just never got back up, but on the other hand there were plenty of opportunities to all stand back up and people were just lazy so screw them, I never sat down once. Maybe something like move parabol to after the intermission or play ticks and leeches to get people back into the groove but I’m not gonna complain. It was great. If they are still coming your was go see them this may be your last chance with the impending approach of the tenth planet Nibiru ( you can read more on the official tool site) like I said im braving Salt Lake City just to see them one more time and I have no doubt it will be just as good and I can’t wait to hear Sober live. As a side note I would like to thank the person from Lake Forest who called me today to return my wallet which I lost in the parking lot. Thank you for doing something positive. Thank you Maynard, Adam, Justin and Danny for a great show and giving us a modern band which is on level of Zepplin, Hendrix and other greats. I truly hope I can ride the spiral and go where no one’s been.

Ok. I'm not posting the setlist because everyone else already did. I don't know about anyone else, but I just couldn't HEAR the opening band Tomahawk. What I heard I liked, but the sound was just heinous. Felt like they had a really short setlist though. Ok. I love Tool. This was my fourth show. However, I was less than thrilled with the Forum..we had the worst seats EVER. Secondly, I think we had every trendy lame ass sitting in my section. There were these stupid idiot teenage girls who were too busy talking about their high school boyfriends to pay attention to ANYTHING that was happening around them. Third..there just seemed to be something lacking. Maybe I took it the wrong way, but Maynard seemed less than thrilled with the crowd. Musically, Tool was just amazing, but I felt like there was something missing. I have to say, the highlight of my evening was Aenima. I hadn't seen the Parabola video yet, so that was awesome as well. Regardless of all the little problems, I felt inspired, and I loved every second of Tool. See you in Texas.

Not a whole lot to say about the show that nobody selse didnt say, but i just want to mention that this night has forever changed me. Me being only 5'8, and 148 Lbs fought my way up to the front with a shitload of 200 lb plus motherfuckers. I thought it was funny because all the big ass dudes to the sides of me kept on asking if i was OK, and i would say im small but theres no fuckin way youre getting me out of this spot.I would be nothing short of dissapointed if i would have gave in to the exhaustion and heat and crowdsurf the hell out. I stayed on the barricade directly in front of Maynard and my lifes work is done, i can now die a happy man. The lights, the affects, the trippy ass backdrops, all of it was worth the price of the ticket, infact i feel like i ripped them off. And as far as Tomahawk went, i went in thinking they were gonna be garbage, but by the end of their set i was thoroughly entertained. It was bad when the singer would grab his distortion mic and go fuckin apeshit on stage. HANDS DOWN!! the greatest night of my life, it just sucks that life is all downhill from this.

WOW! After taking some mushrooms and smoking a few joints I came to a conclusion were I freaked out. Although I took very little mushroom, TOOL made me feel as if I took a whole bag of them. Anywayz, the show was freakin bad ass, although they sounded better at Verizon Ampitheatre in Irvine, CA the mushrooms made it a little more interesting. It's funny when your tripping out the music sounds more defined, well at least to me. If your a musician you must of heard TOOL mess up a lot, because I heard a lot of flaws last nights, including Maynard's tone on the P.A. TOOL could have done a little better than that, but according to first time goers, it was awesome. As the show when on, there sound got way better, everything was clear Adam's guitar didn't sound muffled, Maynard voice sounded better, it was bad ass. I aint dissin TOOL it's just positive feedback. I won't repeat anything here that has already been said, but I have a couple of points: 1. TOMAHAWK was great live, and I think they're on the cusp of being huge. Mike Patton and John Stanier are geniuses, and it's exciting to see Patton as the architect of all these new supergroups. Anyone who hasn't should check out "Millenium Monsterwork" by the Fantomas/Melvins Band. Insane. I think it would be amazing if Patton and Keenan did a duet of sorts later in the tour, but who knows... those things are touchy sometimes. 2. Prouduction and Lighting design were the most sophisticated and high-tech I've ever seen at a TOOL show. I guess the little band I saw at the Tejon Theatre in Bakersfield in 1995 is finally catching on with the kiddies. Kabir said somewhere that TOOL was the 10th-highest grossing tour band in 2001. Thanks, TOOL, for investing a lot of that hard-earned scratch in the Arena tour. It was obvious that your lighting designer was really into the music, because his transitions were tight and his effects were sometimes even a bit too literal (black & white/red & yellow LOL). 3. I didn't see the last tour with KING CRIMSON, but I was kinda surprised to see MJK playing rhythm guitar on a couple of the Lateralus songs. Is this a new thing, or haven't I noticed before? Is there anything that MJK *can't* do? I just got the MR. SHOW DVDs, and he's funny as hell on that. I also heard he was a convincing SATAN in BIKINI BANDITS GO TO HELL. I mean, the guy's a triple threat: singing, dancing, acting.... If this TOOL thing doesn't work out, there's always Broadway. I can see it now: The SOUND OF MUSIC by Rogers & Hammerstein, starring MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN as Maria. 4. The Vibe. No, not by Pontiac. The audience and band radiated the most positive energy I've ever seen at a tool show. There was a band group-hug during the final bows, and with the stage lights shining all over the auditorium, the group hug extended to all eighteen thousand of us. The TOOL show has evolved from mass catharsis to a celebration of human evolution both on a personal level and through the collective unconscious. Deep, dude. Pass the shrooms.

WOW!!! That's the only word that comes to mind when thinking about Tool's performance last night. Obviously as you read above it was my first time ever seeing Tool live and it was better than I could have possibly imagined. It took about 2 hours (with traffic) to get from my house to the Forum. As soon as we (my bro and I) got there at 6:30 they started letting people in. After an hour of sitting and looking at all the pretty female Tool fans the opening band Tomahawk took the stage. I'm a big fan of Mike Patton so naturally I was looking forward to this performance. Patton and the rest of the band were dressed like cops, which seemed only appropriate being that the Forum is located in Inglewood. Patton was really animated during certain songs and also made a few comments about the LA police and Britney Spears. Another 40 some minutes later and Tool was on. As soon as the lights went off you could feel the electricity in that place, it was awesome. The set list was excellent and the visuals were beyond comprehension. One of the best moments in the whole show was when Melvins drummer Dale Crover came out and did his drum solo with Danny Carey.......that had to be seen to be believed. Maynard was as cool as all hell, flailing around in blue and (I think) yellow body paint. The crowd was cool and Maynard seemed very appreciative. My brother was blown away as well. He's heard me listen to Tool for years but never got into it as much as I did. Last night changed his mind forever. After the concert was over he told me that he has a whole new respect for Tool and come to think of it I do too. It was a night I am going to remember for the rest of my life. So to Maynard, Adam, Danny and Justin, thanks for everything, you guys are and forever will be unmatched. S&M

This was the most amazing show iv ever been too. It was better than any drug high, it was out of this world. I would pay any amount of money or travel around the world to see them perform again. maynard is so beautiful, he puts so much into his performence. They realy make you feel like you are part of the song and its meaning. it was great.

My god, second time and they're fucking amazing, i really cant say wich one was better, this one or the one last halloween in San Diego..difference was that i was on Floor this time!: D.. Fucking great new stage..very very interesting, haha the only thing kinda crappy about it was that it didn't all work quite to perfection..the supposed 6 paintings that must fall during reflection...didnt fall...only 3 came down..the rest of them got stuck..ha but its ok, and it still kicked major ass Like how the set goes evolving..i fucking loved Sober and Flood with the simple black background and then The Grudge with kick ass painting from Alex Grey. Found it really cool how Maynard turned out painted from the very beggining, he was going crazy from the very beggining, really everybody was really into it. Setlist: Sober(calm short intro..drums and Taran Tun Taran Maynard appeared in black undies and body paint) Flood (shorter intro...majorly kicked ass) - Background Painting Appears inmediately as they start - The Grudge Short Ions Stinkfist (with lyrics during the guitar solo bridge..anybody know the lyrics to that part?..and extended part) 46&2 Schism (maynard on guitar) Parabola (short short parabol no lyrics intro..with 2 little evil ballon thing hanging) Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient (real cool metallic confetti falls) Ænima - Intermission New Backround Painting Appears with hanging 7 Pointed Star and supposed Paintings falling - Disposition Reflection Triad (all of these 3 with maynard on guitar, and this one with that drummer dude) Lateralus Ends......will the world still be here for another Tool cd?...

You gotta support the home team and in this hole we call LA we joined together for a few hours of enlightenment and ROCK at the Inglewood Forum. The crowd in the General Admission area was way connected to the sights and sounds described by others. The drink lines in the pit were outrageous and it was obvious that Forum management decided to control the booze. I heard it was not so bad in the seats. Also in LA you could not venture into the seats for a seated break. As I gazed up into the seats I noticed that just about everyone was standing. LA fans represented as usual! When I ventured up in Bakersfield many fans were just sitting around. However, the pit in Bakersfield was more active. Of course the Pit is the place to be. The setlist has been posted and it was great. Definately missed H. Loved 46 & 2. The intermission was a bit extended compared to Bakersfield and I agree with some other fans that something (a song or two or energy?) is missing post intermission. Try Hooker with a Penis in Vegas! Though I was more connected to the hippy guest percussionist in Bakersfield, Triad again blew me away. Just when you are pumped up Lateralus closes the show and you are out on your ass with the rest of the clowns.

tool: greatest show on earth. maynard went off during this show, unlike the earlier lateralus tours, crazy headbanging during sober, like back breaking headbangs, head gets couple inchs from the floor and up again. maynard could of been screaming deathmetal and the headbanging would of fit well, it was a good stage presense. adam was still as usual, justin had the wavy vibe going, like whole body waving, not just head, like his body was a ripple in a swimming pool (no i wasn't on psychedelics), which he did the most during the two man drum off, which was the intro to schism i believe. while maynard was going off during sober, danny was saving, conserving his energy, with light cymbal hits and not alot of big arm movements. i thought the sound was crisp and clear, but the audience was so loud, they needed to turn it up. maynard was mumbiling into the mic and said alot more things than what other people posted for this show..or any show i've ever seen. when maynard kept saying this isn't LA, the whole audience was screaming really loud, awesome feeling. didn't watch the screen..being a musician. couldn't really see adam or justins movement along the fret board. ANd i almost didn't get to see danny's movement because of that stupid banner hanging up (i'm a drummer) but his drumming was superb, that guest drummer was ok, kept playing the same thing over and over again. merchandise was a rip off, except for the stickers which i picked up. beer was 8.75 a glass! lots of herb smell in the crowd as well. it was cool to see such a wide minority spectrum there, everyone from vampires and a guy with an I love satan shirt to fashion slaves, diff classes of people, i say this becuase the other 2 shows weren't like this. and i felt like a pig in a pen for the size of the smoking area, it was ridiculous, and if you didn't know the secret knock to get back in you were screwd. TOOL is the greatest show on earth, don't fool yourself, it is, i recommend everyone sees them. couple suggestions: smaller venues, less crap in the way so we can see you people play, cheaper ticket prices so all tool fans have a chance to go (we all saw how much you made last year) and to never stop touring or making records, cause you people move me like no other band has.

"I hear you people really like cops down here" (sic) Tomahawk When I woke up, i knew there was something different, I just couldnt remember what it was. I took a shower, and then it hit me....TOOL!!! This was my first time seeing them and I promise you, it will not be the last. The band just did too much of an awesome job w/ the show. The lighting effects were spectacular, the sound was clean, and the crowd, believe it or not, was somewhat friendly. Me and my friends were supposed to be sitting in the colonnade, all the way on top. We got there a bit early and walked around, until finally we decided to just sit down in some seats which were very good. The owners of the seats next to us came and sat. We began talking to them. Im guessing they were between 30-40 years old. They kept telling us to hold on cause "tool's gonna rock the shit out of you...just wait" Well, someone must really love us up there cause the owners of the seats never showed up, leaving us w/ amazing seats. Tool started w/ sober. An amazing opener but IMO Third Eye would have rocked twice as much. I enjoyed the whole show. Everything was perfect, and when the show ended and the band gave the group hug, Maynard looked right at me, smiled, nodded, and took off w/ the band.... ...The perfect end, to the perfect night. It sucks to say, but Tool shows are becoming more and more disappointing as time goes by. While the music is of course unbelievable, the band seems less into it every time. I've taken a bunch of non-Tool fans to shows and back in the day, even the most hard-core hip hop fans would fall in love with the band. Tool was so magnetic, Maynard especially would just grab you. I haven't seen that in a long time - probably since Coachella. This isn't gonna stop me from going to shows, but I miss the old Tool. So

Well I must say that last night at the forum was amazing. Tool opened with Sober, actually they had played the ending of merkaba which is really a long intro to sober played on the aenima tour, which was amazingly followed by flood. After Flood, the black curtain fell to reveal the "faces" and the stated into the grudge. Following the grudge they had white electrical stringy lights above the floor and ions was heard while the lights acted like, well, elctricity. luckily I had gotten floor tickets by attending the presale the day before tickets went on sale so I was extremly close and even that more in awe. anyways they then played stinkfist followed by 46 and 2. I was surprized they were playing some older stuff. I was greatly appreciative of that. Then they decided to play some newer stuff and dived into schism, parabola- which of course they played the video for and had those everlasting gobstopper things floating around on stage. After parabola was eon blue apocalypse followed by the patient, oooh red glitter. Then Maynard asked for a show of hands if they lived in arizona. A few people held up their hands and waved. Then Maynard said, "oh thats too bad." and started playing aenima. There was a short intermission and three smaller curtains fell down. One was a skeleton of the human body, one was a veining muscular type picture of the human body and they other was a "tool" design. they had also changed the backdrop and it was the spiriling eyes and the also had a hexagram in the middle of the backdrop. They then began to play the trilogy of disposition, reflection and triad. On triad, Sasha came out and played and the song itself was incredible, it was a journey in itself. After triad the removed Sasha's drums and Tool then prepared for Lateralus. They stood in a circle and then preceeded to their places on stage to "spiral out." When it was over the crowd went wild and the four members hugged each other. Then they thanked us and waved goodbye and threw out some "presents" for the lucky fans who actually caught them. Tool is by far the most intense band when it comes to they way they make me feel through the music. Every time I see them it gets better and better and last night was no different.

Nothing more to say about TOOL, they are no doubt that best band that has ever graced our planet. nuffsaid I do want to comment on Tomahawk though. Don't even bother showing up for them. I liked the drums and bass, but Mike and the guitarist sucked ass! It was one of the worst performances I have ever seen. Mike must be on some serious (bad) drugs to think that the crap they were spewing out last night was anything musical/creative/talented.

What a great show! Drove 6 hours from San Francisco to see Tool and it was well worth it(obviously). Good stuff and bad stuff. Bad stuff first. During Reflection, like half of the Alex Grey paintings didn't drop like they were supposed to. Hmm, I think that's all that bothered me. Too bad because that stage set up is awesome at that point. Also it looked like the video was timed differently during that song, not quite as cool. hmmm... it was a Reflection sabatoge conspiracy, I wonder who's behind it... probably Sacramento fans, they have a tendancy to ruin things. Good stuff now. Maynard said some good stuff at this show, as opposed to his normal quietness at the first 3 shows of this tour. He stated, "Sounds like Sacramento" after the crowd gave out a wimpy cheer. I liked it because I had been to the Sacramento show the night before and that crowd, like always, was pretty lame. L.A. redeemed themselves though by giving out an enourmous shout after Maynard questioned again whether or not he was in Los Angeles. Also it was cool for me to hear AEnema in LA because I don't usually see Tool in LA. And how he asked "Is anyone here from Arizona?" Then no response. "That's too bad." Goes right into AEnema. Hearing Forty Six & 2 was great! The set list was so similar to the first few shows of this tour, I thought it was going to be exactly the same until they played Forty Six & 2 instead of H. which was cool because my friend really wanted to hear that. Hearing H. three nights in a row was spectacular and I was ready for a fourth time but Forty Six & 2 was such a great surprise. I'm also loving Flood and Triad every single time, good stuff. Maybe it's just me but I thought Maynard's scream in The Grudge was longer than normal this night. He held it all the way up to the "Let Go" part, which he usually stops a measure or two before. That was bad ass. I also liked his joking about The Melvins drummer auditioning for a Duran Duran reunion, the previous nights he didn't mention the extra drummer on Triad, who was a different dude the night before... I think it was the big labowski but I'm not sure. In a few, I will be heading off to Las Vegas to experience my tenth Tool show, I think that will do it for me for this tour, it has been bad ass so far. No doubt Lateralus will be the song of the night in Las Vegas because I have a feeling it will be awhile before I see them again. -Dan-

Yesterday was quite possibly the best day of my life. I woke up having forty winks and proceeded to SSP (that's my job to you). All through my shift, I could barely stay focused on my work because on that day I was going to see TOOL! As my shift was coming to an end, the excitement spread through my body. At the chime of 5pm, I rushed out to my car and set off to the fine city of Inglewood, California. Upon entering the lovely city, I saw transients, narcotic users, and people with just plain bad luck. If I could, I would have helped them out, however TOOL was just two miles away. Along Manchester, a clever entrepreneur was selling parking space for ten dollars. He exclaimed it was an easy in & out and that the lot was secluded for consumption of alcoholic beverages. We took it and I headed across the street toward Inglewood Liquor. There I bought two 24oz. Heinekens for only $5.79. Much later, I discovered that the beer inside the Forum was $8.75 for a cup of LITE beer (who drinks LITE beer???). After downing the Heinekens, which got me a nice buzz, we crossed the street and entered the Forum. Upon entering, I saw where our seats were and was like…"uhhhh". My friend and I noticed that a ticket attendant guarded each aisle in the lower section. We noticed one employee who was weak, so we decided to take advantage. While the attendant was occupied, we pulled a Spiderman move and hopped over the rail and land on a seat. Then we went center aisle and ended up near the bottom. Finally, the moment came when TOOL hit the stage. The place nearly exploded with the sound of first piercing guitar note. The show had the best visuals I have ever seen. They were creepy and the lights shun perfectly. The sound quality was A+ and in my humble opinion they sound much better live than on their studio records. The only flaw was being around a bunch of teens that were blowing their bammer weed toward my direction. I think I got high off secondhand bud or it was just mean ol headache. In addition, I lost half my hearing and will be applying for Medicaid so I can get a Miracle Ear. After the show, we went to Randy's Donuts (a So. Cal landmark) and grubbed on. Thenit was back to reality. On the drive home, I was thinking how it's too bad I can't have more days like this in my life. I guess it depends on how you live your life or being at the right place at the right time so someone can give you TOOL tickets.

Laterlaus Great show as always. Kinda surprised that they didn't do anything crazy for L.A. Highlight for me was seeing Danny and Crover jamming together......just both of them smiling......it was rad. I also saw Buzzo and Trent Reznor at the show. Crowd was pretty cool, met some die hard fans. Tomahawk was really tight and Patton was contained. He must have skipped his alcohal for the evening. Thanks everyone for sharing this moments we had in the last few days. It was bad ass. Tool inspires. Now its our turn. Have fun everyone.....see you next time.

This was my first Tool show ever and I feel as if I was reborn, being able to hear Maynard's voice live was fuckin amazing, I can die happy now. My only problem was I had shitty seats and I couldn't see Justin because some speakers were in my way, but I saw everyone else perfectly. I thought it was a wonderful show and I doubt I will ever see it beaten in my lifetime. (But I've never really seen a good show before) So I won't waste anymore space, the band is fucking awesome on CD, but seeing them live beats anything else on the face of this planet. Mike

I thought that this show was awesome. It was way more than what I expected. My seats were COL 13, so I had an upper side view of everythingI was able to see the screen where they had all the crazy art. Maynard had his own little stage next to Danny. Maynard seemed to be really feeling his music, because I have a few bootleg tapes of their live performances and I have never seen him get into it as much as he did. They also had a great setlist: Sober Flood The Grudge Stinkfist - this was an awesome somewhat different version. Fortysix & 2 Schism Parabola - they did not do Parabol Eon Blue Apocolypse The Patient Aenima - before they started, Maynard asked the crowd, " How many of you are from Arizona?" (some people yelled and cheered), "well thats too bad." Then they started the song. Dispostion Reflection Triad Lateralus - before they started, maynard gave his final speech and said that they hope that we felt inpired tonight, and we should take our inspiration further and create something positive.

This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

TOOL: 7/15/02 LA FORUM The day started at 6:00am in the morning for me well I didn’t get any sleep prior so the day started the day before…whatever. My friend and I had floor tickets and this would be the first time I will be on the floor for tool. We reach the faded glory that is the Great western Forum around 8:30. We were there early no one else was cept for the trucks that carried the two bands equipment and a few tour buses. Waiting for the show to begin really flew by for me in between walking around and sleeping in the car. I met of with some interesting people one guy flew in from somewhere and it was his 23rd show, this girl followed them all the way from Bakersfield. And a guy who was drinking quite a lot and singing to songs and messing up the words but it was cool because he had heart. After awhile a bus arrives and the bassist of TOMAHAWK showed up and signed some autographs. There was some soundchecking in the back but it wasn’t too exciting. Then we hear that a line has started for the floor so we lined up. While in line I was entertained by an extremely opinionated guy and he was hilarious we dissed bands and talked about movies. I was quoting Fight Club and saying the line “you are not your khakis” and ironically a bus full of khaki wearing Staff Pros showed up. So these people got the line started and the pat down was way light I mean I could have sneaked a grown midget into the show in my pants. I rounded the corner and they slap these bracelets on you and down the stairs I went to the floor. I got to the second row from the railing and I mean I couldn’t believe how close I was going to be. And here was when waiting got really tedious. After a while TOMAHAWK takes the stage in police uniforms and I thought that was rad. Mike was awesome he could do amazing stuff with his voice and the bassist was really entertaining. Midway through the set Mike tells the crowd that Britney Spears was in the crowd and if she was he wanted her to come down and take a picture with the bassist and he slowly shook his ass. It is expected that an opening band will not be liked but for the most part I always enjoy whom TOOL chooses to open for them. But the general population didn’t even respect them and the music went over their heads. Mike also said they decided to wear cop uniforms because LA loves cops haha. They wrapped up their very energetic set especially Mike and their set up was taken down almost immediately. Little blips and blurps of music can be heard while the roadies take the stage and set up TOOL’s gear. It can be heard that Danny was soundchecking the drums because he was doing the intro to Stinkfist over and over. They wheel out the set, which was covered in a black tarp. They shined lights onto to it and it glowed from underneath the tarp. Then finally they removed the tarp and the crowd cheers. Man is it pretty and intricate. Then the usual soundchecking occurs with Justin’s bass and I have to tell ya after seeing Adam’s guitar this close it is pretty…that silver burst is nice! Everyone leaves the stage and a slight push can be felt. The lights go out and the droning comes on and then the huge crush. This time on the projection screens showed a head instead of the eyes. Where I was on the floor was perfect I was behind a girl who was shorter then me. I didn’t mind the pushing and shoving as much as I thought I would because it was worth it to see them this close for probably the last time. After a while Danny and Justin arrive on stage with smiles and grins on both their faces then quietly followed by Adam and the crowd reaction was good. Then from the dark comes a slithery, shiny blue figure. I was so excited that MJK decided to go old school for us not only did he did his whole body blue but had on black light paint placed all over his body. I can tell by how he got on stage that he was into it slowly rocking back and forth and his vision is fixed that man is intense. His stage presence was felt and they didn’t even play a note yet. Then Adam starts the notes for Merkaba and people knew what was coming up… Sober- What a great opener! The band was on the vibe was going. Adams guitar crunched, Justin’s bass smacked you, and Danny’s drums hurt! The band sounded great but the vocals were lost but that’s to be expected in an arena. The song goes through its usual motions with a little added drum parts from Danny. The energy from the chorus was great Maynard was way into what he was doing. The song concluded with the last part accented and screamed “I want what I waannnnnttttt!” great opener and the crowd enjoyed it (obviously). Then the shortened intro to…. Flood- Fucking shit! I avoided setlists prior to this show so this surprised the hell out of me. Boy oh boy did this song rip live. Maynard totally lost itduring the “So I take what is mine, and hold what is mine, suffocate what is mine, and bury what's mine. Soon the water will come and claim what is mine. I must leave it behind, and climb to a new place now“ part stumbling, staggering, whipping, and convulsing to very syllable. Once again the band is on Maynard was barely audible but the highlight was the “cleanse and purge me in the water” part Maynard held it out and the ending was crushing! Truly a great song. Funny how no one around me knew the words… after a short gap in music Danny clicks his drum to what will become… The Grudge- The song starts and the Alex Grey backdrop comes appears with lights cast on to it. Amazing work and an amazing man. The 3rd time getting this song live and it will never lose its intensity and drive. The crowd is in to it and the feeling is certainly there. This song is intense. The lights were right on and my eyes were on Danny the whole time. This man flows over his kit like a river calm and peaceful yet aggressive. Danny is truly a student of his craft. Maynard more then usual is really into the song stomping staring, really intimidating presence something about his eyes creep me out… everyone who has met him always talks about his eyes intense character indeed. Justin was into it more then usual too stomping to the beat. During TOMAHAWK’s set I caught Justin to the side making out with his wife… I know he is married. The song continues to go through its peaks and valleys with the lights being less intense during the “let this go” part. The song picks up again and Maynard unusually held the scream longer then I expected I am guessing 15 to 20 seconds? He arched back and gathered everything and belted that sucker afterwards he staggered a bit looked like it took a lot from him but then he gets right into the “let go let go” part and he evens stretches out the last let go! After that my eyes were on Danny. He hits all the notes and you can hear it the tremendous drum breakdown was flawless he makes it look so easy yet you can tell he is focused like a motherfucker! After the breakdown the lights go down instantly. Then after a huge crowd roar after the moments of silent negative ions can be heard and we all know what is next… Stinkfist (extended version with the Elvis lyrics) This song was yummy. Maynard starts off the song with huge stomps to the beat, which looked cool. The song is at its usual until it gets to the build up near the end at the “I’ll keep digging” part. I can tell that this was the first time for a lot of people because they sang on while Maynard just stared out at the crowd while Adam went into the extended part. Such a great twist to an already great song. The song wraps up and it is a crowd pleaser (obviously). Then almost instantly… 46 & 2- I was expecting H. but they replaced this with that. An amazing song don’t get me wrong but I truly needed and wanted to get H. being it is my favorite song of all time. But I could not dwell in the could’ve and should’ve s because TOOL was getting into the maelstrom that is 46 & 2. The band was precise and nothing new was added to the song in my opinion the song is already perfect. Then the part I was waiting for comes up, the drum solo. Seeing it close up beats the crap of seeing it in seats or on a bootleg you can tell how intricate and precise the drumming is. Danny is amazing! The song rounds out with the brutal ending that everyone loves and my chest hurts. Then Adam starts the first bars, slowly of… Schism- The intro was cool with the notes being played slowly. Nice stuff. This song was pleasant the crowd loved it and the song went through its usual motions but the between the verse and the bridge the pause was longer. The part that kills it is the drumming at the end. Fucking brutal! The song closes out and the crowd gives a huge roar. Maynard was on guitar as well. The crowd wouldn’t calm down but if you listen closely you can hear the notes to…. Parabol(short no words) Parabola- Great song , full of energy and drive. The floating object from the video appears floating behind Maynard and Danny and remains floating through out the show. Cool stuff This song always gets me grooving! Adam sounded better then the times I’ve heard this song before the solo came out good and although it wasn’t super clear it was good. Once again the drumming was a spectacle and the part where Justin’s bass comes after everything slows down sounded great perfect balance between crunch and rumble. The song closes out like usual. There is a little pause and Adam starts playing some random notes which turns into Eon Blue Apocalypse/ The Patient- Haha the crowd didn’t really accept this song in the beginning just a few meat headed “yahs!” here and there. I love this song especially its lyrical content. Maynard is into the song like the last time I’ve seen it. It’s cool how he points to himself when singing “the tedious path I’ve chosen here”. Things get fun when the song picks up into the heavy part and its all good. During this song the stage is painted with various shades of blue and red confetti drops from sky. Truly an experience. The song was perform perfectly. Maynard then asks something that went something like this “is anyone from Arizona…that’s too bad…” hey hey hey hey hey….. ÆNEMA- Good fucking lordy! Once this song started I moved to the back because I just wanted to rock out to this song I just had to I was greatly anticipating this song and I had to get down. Boy did this song get people worked up. I mean Maynard was hard-core moving to the music almost painful looking backbreaking handbangs that almost hit the ground wow was he amped! Justin rang clear with his bass part and Danny was on point with his no pun intended off beat cymbal work. Gosh everything just came together for this song the “I’m praying for rain” part was a huge ToolGasm my biggest one that night. I can go on and on about this one. Then the mammoth ending comes in it builds and builds then drops you on your sorry ass. The band exits and it’s the Intermission. Intermission- they made the intermission shorter this time around but I prefer it to be long like last time because it makes the return of the band much for sweeter. During the intermission there was this constant droning sound that increased in pitch and tone while on the projection screens there was a face who’s front part kept on waving side ways and forewords. It keeps on doing that then it suddenly reels back to reveal a skull then back again to normal. Fun stuff! Then the new backdrop is revealed and it is magnificent. If you have seen then ending to the new video you’ll know what I am talking about. Banners from Alex Grey’s Sacred Mirrors drop down but some got stuck which irked me quite a lot. There was suppose to be two on stage but the one on the right got stuck arghhhh. Then slowly from the ground a seven- pointed star is raised to the center of the backdrop. Truly fascinating. Then slowly they reappear. Disposition/Reflection/Triad (Maynard on guitar)- Probably my favorite part of the show. In my opinion this just sums up TOOL for what they are. Musicians. Things are so mellow and peaceful during this its great just closing your eyes and realizing how lucky you are to be there. Reflection starts up and its great as usual but what I’m gonna whoop and holler about the most is Triad! Triad was tremendous. Dale from the Melvins came on and played the Roto- Toms it was cool how he and Danny looked and smiled at each other. The build up is truly ToolGasmic! The song comes to a grinding halt and Dale hugs every member of TOOL. Maynard mentioned that Dale was trying out for the Duran Duran reunion tour. After that he gives the positive speech and he gets on Danny’s platform to start… Lateralus- Wow oh wow. What hasn’t been said about this song? To experience this song live is an experience. The words, the drums, the twiddly bass part, its an all encompassing work of art. Truly an inspiring song indeed not only musically but emotionally and spiritually. Maynard gets off in this song shaking and twitching and by this time they have slightly improved the sound of his voice. Danny once again amazes with awe-inspiring transitions and rolls. The song comes to an end with Maynard slowly turning in circles during the spiral out part. Then Danny sends us off with a drum breakdown and once last hit of the crash symbols. Maynard throws up a peace sign Danny gets up from the kit and they all meet up in the center to hug. Maynard immediately leaves the stage while the other 3 stay and wave, clap and throw stuff out I even saw Adam crack a very slight smile. The house lights come on and its over. Overall impression and other stuff- As you can tell it was an experience. Visually stimulating indeed. But TOOL can play in a cornfield and I still would pay 50 to see that. As for the crowd it is what I come to expect from LA there was a lot of after ÆNIMA fans and some that couldn’t tell Sober from Stinkfist. There was an extremely annoying girl behind who kept on yelling enema enema! I turned around and screamed as loud as I can “they are not a fucking jukebox and its On-Ni-Ma for Christ sakes!” Afterwards for the rest of the show she was a quiet little girl. I found it funny during ÆNEMA when the moshing began that the song was exactly about those people. I also found it discouraging that not many people knew the words for Flood but all of a sudden sang really loud during Stinkfist. Yes the floor was crowded, hot, sweaty, nasty, and uncomfortable but I am not complaining. I was saddened by the omission of H. Maynard said a couple of things that for the most part went like this: “so this is LA (the crowd gives a kinda wimpy roar) doesn’t sound like LA, or is it Sacramento (the crowd boos) how do we know if this is LA or not (finally a cheer good enough to satisfy TOOL)”. He also mentions something to this effect: “sometimes you ask yourself why you do what you do…. thanks for reminding us” And there were a lot of thank you’s and thanks for the support thrown here and there. The sound quality is what to expect from an arena it was the Great Western Forum. The band sounded great just that Maynard just got lost in the middle of it all. It was hard to hear all the little quirks, accents, and new harmonies he adds to the songs but one things for sure that night he was out to kill. Adam was his usual Adam self passive and calm doing his part. Justin got more groovy then usual his bass sounded right on it wasn’t over flowing and wasn’t too rumbly. Now Danny… aside for that looker of a kit, was on as usual. There’s nothing that can be said about his drumming. He is truly talented and taking drumming somewhere then the usual 4/4. During Lateralus it was cool how the lights reflected the black and white red and yellow part by painting the stage those colors. As a whole everything has been said about TOOL. Its cool how TOOL is probably operating on a higher and deeper level then say 90% of their fans but the important part is that they are sharing knowledge and experience, influencing and inspiring people everyday. TOOL’s music can mean a number a things to people and that’s good the point is to get people thinking again to realize that there is something to grasp and hold on to. Its hard to imagine them getting better then this maybe this is the zenith of TOOL, but whatever comes after this I am more then content for following this band for the better half of my life. TOOL gives me reasons to push on, inspiration, influence, ideas, a better understanding of the people around, me a better understanding of myself, and most importantly hope, hope for the present, for the future, hope that as a whole we can improve ourselves in someway, hope for better things to look forward to, hope for new experiences, hope for this chaotic thing we call life. Thank you Adam, Maynard, Justin, and Danny for sharing with us you guys don’t know how much of an impact you made on me but I am eternally grateful. (anyone with thoughts, ideas, and opinions please email me)

This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

THis show was fuckin amazing. its Fuckin TOOL. Sober really hit hard as an opener and the crowd was goin off. Maynard looked alot more energetic...well not really energetic...but he moved alot more than in the last 2 shows ive seen the guys. Maynard came out in his speedos and his body was painted blue. heres the set list: Sober Flood The Grudge (alex grey art work on the background) Ions (with actual cable wires litting up, hangin on stage) Stinkfist (extended) 46and2 Parabola Schism (extended) Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient (glitter falls amongst the crowd on floor) Aenima INTERMISSION- Disposition Reflection Triad (dale from The Melvins on toms) Lateralus One of the highlights of the night was when TOOL played Triad. Dale from The Melvins came out to start off Triad on the Toms. Danny and Dale just startted off triad and they went off for a while till adam finally came in on the guitar. It was quite an act they both put out. Maynard was playin guitar during triad also.... (using that wierd shaped guitar, yes, the same guitar he always uses) THeir was really more art work and the visuals must of been better from last years tour... but i was really too into the set list not payin attention to the visuals.... Watching Danny bust out the drum solo on 46and2 was too fucking insane for me. The sound in the arena was excellent. Crowd was alrite.... except for the few 10 or 20 idiots that were trying to mosh in the floor. Other than that eveyrthing was excellent. The end of the show was prettty fuckin cool.... mostly in party because the whole band stood together in the middle of the stage and all the lights shinned on the band members.... the crowd got a good look at Maynard whose always kind of hidden in the background with no lighting. Justin, Adam, Maynard, Danny... all gave each other a big group hug and then as Danny always does, he threw a bunch of crap too the audience... (drum sticks...etc..) oh yea maynard always throwin his bottled waters and crap.... man i wish i could have caught one..heh cool show.. tool rocks.

Obviously the show rocked. This is Tool, afterall. This show definitely lacked the intimacy of smaller venues, and the sound was impressive given that it was at the Forum. Hearing the intro for Flood with the awesome sound setup would have taken me to new levels of appreciation. I was disappointed, however, to see Maynard with a guitar. I always hate to see this at a concert, but it was even more disturbing to see Tool do it. Maynard should stick to singing. I could definitely live without seeing Maynard play a few chords on stage. That's Adam's department. Leave it to him.

The idea behind the whole show is to pry open the third eye. The beginning image is of a head with two eyes and a hand comes across it and slits open the forehead to where a third eye sits. The set list is like an old Indian Chakra map. The heavy deep sounding songs at the beginning, the middle human struggle songs in the middle, and the enlightening universally true songs at the end. This concert was meditation food and the art on display clearly portrayed the opportunity to pry open the thiird eye's awareness. So they started with the songs that were all heavy to awaken the animal in us. They opened with Sober. Heavy, Heavy as hell. I was more aware of the animal stirring in me than most people, only cause I like to go there alot during sex. The crowd was instantly in a fury the surge of animalistic adrenaline. Tool had short little terrorizing black and white film clip of a naked man and woman standing together being terrorized from behind by a dark foreign alien arm that neither of them wanted to recognize, thew arm would reach from behind them and they would scream and panic in horrible terror. Maynard was completely blue, and he paced around his little stand like a chained soul trying to break lose of his demons during Sober and Flood. Then right as Flood ended the curtains dropped, and Danny simultaneously started in with the war drum call of The Grudge. Next Stinkfist with the extra long bridge which still everyone fell for. Then came the thought provoking songs of inner "stomach" struggle, 46&2, and Schism. The definite division in us all. And Parabola was next, a perfect order to open up the heart to Aenima, which completely downed my artifical inflated sense of self. Then came the universally enlightening songs. Disposition got me in the mood for some food for thought. My ears were open. They hit me with Reflection. During this song there was a stronger pull to the animations Tool had on the screen. It was a Pink Floydish spiral effect of psychotripy art. On the backdrop of the set was Alex Grey's "eyes to heaven" picture. Triad hammered in the point for me. Lateralus was the cherry on top. Maynard was doing bridges practically, coming dangerously close to snapping his spine he would bend back and dangle like a dead puppet being pulled from the sky. Spiral out, keep goi

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. From my first TOOL show to this one has been memorable. The first show at Ventura Theater and now at the Forum what a difference. Going from 5 feet from the stage to 500 feet. I can still say that it was the best show ive seen. I like the way the band has transitioned over the years. I dont really care for theatrics but i think the extra lights, disco balls and such are part of there show and they dont do it to sell more tickets they do it for the total experience of the MUSIC. Anyway Thank you TOOL, and dont stop we need more.

seeing tool at the forum monday was a well-needed break. still (3 days afterwards) high from what i consider "a dose of pure oxygen," i am overcome by the will "to do something positive in the coming weeks," a promise that has been repeatedly pushed aside, even after 4 kind reminders. regarding the show; it was awesome --simply amazing. i had really hoped to see tool play H, as i've never been witness to that so-very-dynamic performance before. however, they played in its stead 46&2, which made me happy. it was a notably tight performance, but more importantly-- that's my hands-down favorite tool song, and i had been away from it during the back-to-back san diego & irvine shows. adam's playing, especially the wah-work, is nothing short of phenomenal. at the wiltern, i was close enough to yell "adam is a god" after they finished pushit, and i'm certain he heard it because he offered no acknowledgment (i half-laugh at the thought). i was on the forum floor the whole night (pretty close), and so missed most of the projection visuals. what i did catch was amazing. even the familiar feeds synced to different songs was amazingly inspiring; for some reason, i saw the artistic reorganization as powerful as the phrase "life feeds on life feeds on life." probably one reason why i'm still beside myself today. as for other highlights, flood was very cool- though i'd seen it played before. i consider disposition / reflection to be the third eye of lateralus; its live performance is truly amazing. and no, it's not anything like seeing third eye live-- as anyone who's seen it knows... it changes your life. the stage setup this time was refreshingly different, the morphing background face during schism was subtly entrancing, and the falling glitter during the patient (a nearly cliche arena-rock vice) still somehow crystallized the song's frailty. i'm fairly new to los angeles, so i don't have the luxury of an entourage of fellow toolians. all my closest friends enjoy bay area shows these days-- but i felt safe among many die- hard la fans, some of whom have seen these guys play dives, i assume. sure, there are newbies afloat, but for all the aenema-esque bullshit i've seen in la, i've noticed a tight group of fans that have helped make tool what it is. i thank the band, and i also thank the fans reading this: you guys kick ass. the crowd was surprisingly calm, and even the violent types were the most endearing i've been witness to. everyone i saw was as good about respecting space as is possible with thousands of people enoying tool's greatness on a cramped floor. i play guitar and live in west la, and i'd love to jam with (or sit in on jams with) anyone who cares to e-mail me. i've been hesitant to meet a lot of people before, being a tad shy in person, but i'm a 21-year old male who'll never feel this way about my life again-- so fuck regret. Finally, I'd like to thanka very pretty girl named kristen who kept me company during the show. i should have been less shy and asked for her phone number (also translates to: i'm an idiot), but i thank her for the hour or so she spent with me feeling the music, and forcing put a different spin on a few songs here and there. and nice tattoo, btw. thanks for reading, whoever's reading. take care, and keep tool with you --i don't need to tell you that. adam, danny, justin, maynard: words can't say what i feel, but i just hope i can keep my promise this time. thank you.

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

After a few misshaps including a search for a lighter and some strange characters asking us if we knew their friend Lucy, we finally made it to the show. Our seats were across the floor, facing the frong of the stage (very very nice). Tomahawk sounded great, much better than in Bakersfield. They had neato sound effects and seemed to win the crowd over. But of course, when Tool came on I became trapped in the moment and everything that had happened previously flew from my mind. If anyone is by some miniscule chance reading this, you probably already know all of the songs played, so I'll just mention a few highlights that stick out in my mind (details may be off, for awhile I wasn't "all there"). The visuals on the screens that went along with The Flood were very striking. They featured nude multicolored figures moving in water. The Grudge was one of the highlights. The huge blank screen behind the stage was lit up at the start of the song, but at the part after Maynard sings the first verse and they all start banging away, a huge Alex Grey painted head thingy was revealed on the screen as the colored lights flashed in tune with the music. The crowd went wild. It was spectacular. It was also fun to watch Maynard do his cool twitchy movements, his near naked blue body silhouetted against the backdrop. Fourty Six & 2 was a wonderful surprise, it was nice to note that so many other people feel the same way you do about such a great song that doesn't receive play like other songs such as Sober and Aenema. Speaking of Aenema, the LA crowd got so into this song, which was fun to watch. Maynard made some comment about Arizona before the song, but I couldn't really hear it. Of course Triad was amazing and Reflection and Disposition were nice mellow interludes with beautiful visuals. The night ended with the climactic Lateralus. As the song began the band all stood around Danny, facing eachother, then moved back to their original positions. Lights washed over the crowd, sometimes in tune with the lyrics of the inspiring song (black, white, red, yellow). After the song ended, lights lit up the otherwise darkened stage and the band came together to wave their goodbyes. Then the lights lit up the audience so they could see us for a change. The 2 hour set was the perfect length, long enough for the audience to get their fill, but brief enough for the band to still leave on a high note with the audience pumped up. Well, all of this stuff I wrote about can't really capture the experience. During the show I was enthralled, unable to turn away, my body moving on its own accord to the music. I left feeling uplifted, feeling that I had experienced something truly unique, something that fully displayed what the imagination can offer and what we can share with our fellow humans. I drove back to San Luis Obispo feeling physically exhausted, yet cognitively and emotionally rejuvinated. Thank you very much Adam, Maynard, Danny, and Justin.

After 5 days of travel, car sleep, and shitty fast food, we made it back into Los Angeles for round three of the tour. we arrived very early to the lots, met locals, and saw Adam outside, alond with Tomahawk......though I didn't get to meet anyone This show took the cake. Triad was intense. Adam really let the guitar explode throughout, and the Melvins drummer played very well with Danny. Maynard moved more than Baker and oakland, especially during lateralus. Maynard said parabola was the positive way to look at things, and then brought out the negative with Aenima. Again thanks were given to the crowd. Only variable from the Baker/Oakland Set was 46/2 instead of H. Either way the songs are phenominal. I was very happy with the west coast vacation. I saw, the best and worst of cali, Tool and Beverly Hills/ Los Angeles respectivly, and look foward to greating the band in Boston/Manchester/Providence. With hopes that someone reads this within the band.... Third Eye, Pushit...Boston Thanks for the good times, see you in August

This was this reviewer's 3 Tool show

Hey hey, so it's been about four days since the Tool concert and until now i have some time to write about it. The sad thing now is that there's not much to explain how Fucking Great! the show was since everybody already gave you a great explanation or P.O.V of how it was. Well I'll just add little things to the great stories out there from this concert. Well, first I have never EVER had any problems going to/leaving from a Tool show. You read a lot of people saying that they get in traffic and miss the opening or worse missing the frist song or geeting jammed in the looooonnngg fucking lines trying to get in the the venue. Lucky me this has never happen, always been there on time so i get to check out the cool things that happen before a Tool show. One thing that was pretty funny that i saw, what this guy selling those cheap $5 shrink in one wash t-shirt , that read "FUCKIN' TOOL", imagine that. Taking this great t-shirt to work would be a real fucking hoot, especially if you work in a tiny cubicle, you'll be the bullshit three ring sideshow freak of the day. Well enough of that, now about the concert. I've always liked Mike's voice so he didn't dissapoint me now, i thought Tomahawk was awsome. To me they played a pretty good long set, and since i've heard of there stuff before, it was especially cool to hear there songs live. Jockstarp rocks!!!. As for Tool, well what more can i say? They were FUCKING AWSOME, BRILLIANT, MINBLOWING, BREATHTAKING, EXHILIRATING, MYSTICAL, MINDBENDING, VISUALLY STUNNING, MELODIC, HYPNOTIZINGLY, AWE-INSPIRINGLY, CROTCH-TWISTINGLY GREAT. The greatest band out there never ever dissapoint, if you never been to a Tool concert then you have experience one, go do yourself a favor and check them out if you can. P.S.Since i didn't write anything for the verizon show last Novemeber the same goes to that show.

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

I don't remeber all the songs but they opened with sober...kick ass, and they played Aenima...kick ass. I have to say though that my favorite song of the night was Forty six & 2...holly shit that kicked ass. It really showed off Danny's talents. Tomahawk was kinda lame, the singer was trying to sing and be a DJ at the same time cuz he had a mixing board next to his mic and kept doing weird shit to his voice. At one point he was singing with a gas mask on (it had a mic in it). But while tool was playing there was some 6'4 asshole down in the pit in front of me who consistantly felt the need to flip off the band while holding his beer. cocksucker. Maynard was once again at the back of the stage the entire time, although I'm glad this time he didn't have his own platform and screen. And instead of coming out in his leather ourfit and stripping into his speedos, he decided to come out already dressed in his speedos. At one point he said "So this is Los Angeles" and we all cheered, then he said "Funny, it doesn't sound like Los Angeles" and we cheered louder. Then he said "Sound a lot like...Scaramento" and we all booed. I enjoyed that because it was showing the fuckin stupid Lakers vs. Kings bullshit. Then he said "So is this or is this not Los Angeles"....kick ass. During Triad the drummer from the melvins came out to help with the percussion...kick ass. We had a good crowd, and I was right in front of the speakers so the sound was good. But it was a REALLY big arena and I think the peeple in the back got kinda screwed. At the end they threw drum sticks and other stuff. I really wanted a drum stick but it didn't even come close to me. Oh ya anf towards the middle of the show, a giant star of david came down(for those of you that don't know, the star of david is a jewish religious symbol) Now I don't know what that was all about cuz I'm pretty sure that the band memeber are all athiests, but I'm not sure. I have only one complaint. Both time I've seen Tool they didn't have an Encore. Now I know that having an encore is kinda cliche and Tool is always against shit like that, but I think that it is a good thing to have a Encore, cuz it leaves the crowd more satisfied. But thats just me. Overall the show kicked ass...nuff said. If there is any problem with Tool shows, its that it always leaves you wanting more. I wish I could see them live everyday. Thanks guys, you kick ass (I think I may have said that too many times)

All I kept thinking during the show was the black people who worked there... they must've been like, "what the......"
