Far and away the best TOOL show I have ever seen. They were on for a solid 2 hours and were tight as the body-suit Maynard was sporting!. They were totally into the crowd, into NYC and into playing their hearts out. All TOOL NO Tomahawk! The crowd was stellar, I want to personally thank everyone who attended yesterday for making the night so damn special: the singing, the dancing and just unending roar of applause and cheers. Maynard was engaging even addressing the crowd on numerous occasions, saying at one point he was not convinced that this was NYC, to which the crowd screamed and roared as loud as we could. He even thanked the crowd for their support several times and even told us to have sex when we get home. Awesome show, great atmosphere, no rednecks or suburban dorks, just a mellow NYC crowd that paid more attention to the band and the music than moshing or doing other sophomoric crap. Thanks again for the crowd and their solid effort. I have been reading reviews all week and it seems that our NYC show had the best set, the best crowd, and the most intimate setting: How great it is to watch a supremely talented band in a building solely built for music: RADIO CITY NYC TOOL FANS AND TOOL ALL KICKED ASS LAST NIGHT THANKS!

Obsolutely Amazing! The setlist was amazing. Tool even covered a Ramones song right after opening up with Sober. This is not made up. Before they played it Maynard goes "this one goes out to Joey and Dee Dee." I have never heard of Tool covering the Ramones so this was very special. Maynard actually spoke more than at most shows I have been to. Nothing better than Tool in NYC!!

Very, very amazing show. I came from NY to see those dudes in Trenton in full sobriety. I appreciated everything they did, because I was aware of everything they did and still felt every positive feeling given off from them. I have to say that Disposition, Reflection, and Triad was the marquee point of the show. These 3 songs should always be tied together because it is understood that it is counter-part to create one piece. I knew they were going to open with Sober. Before the show, I would have preferred for them to open with another song, but it fit perfectly by opening with Sober. Very surprising. Setlist as follows: 1) Sober 2) The Grudge 3) Stinkfist 4) 46 & 2 5) Schism 6) Parabol 7) Parabola 8) The Patient 9) Aenima 10) Disposition 11) Reflection 12) Triad 13) Lateralus Again, very amazing. Im looking forward to seeing these guys again at Continental and in New Haven next week. Everyone enjoy and thank you Tool.

well to start out with, two nights in a row with tool is beyond amazing. Maynard got the paint job of his life. It must be alex grey painting him because he (alex) was there last night. Maynard looked like an alien with flaming eyes and a distinct third eye on his forehead. He was all ady-glo under the black lights. I have never seen anything so dramatic. He was absolutely brilliant last night as the band did not have to play really load and Maynards voice was cutting through the mix loud and clear, unlike trenton, when his voice was overpowered by the loudness of the mix. And how about Tool covering the Ramones and paying a tribute to Joey and Dee Dee. Incredible. The rest of the set was pretty much the same except for H instead of 46 + 2. I can't wait till thursday. I hope alex paints Maynard again. Tool is paralyzing. Later. Dave

The show was an amazing event and having tool actually play a ramones cover was perhaps the greastest for of flaterry I've ever heard. Even withv the all the mocking tool does of its fans they seemed geuninely touched last night it was an amazing show. Oh and I had better seats then alexgrrey and I got his autograph he is an amzing artist hope to see you all at his show in september

yo...this show kicked assa majora...The way it was all set-up, the lighting, visual fx, the sound system...Radio City had it tight for tool. I was kinda disapointed though that Maynard was all the way in the back and didn't have any lighting on him the entire show. Neither did Justin or Adam...but at least you could see Danny dish out the best drumming performance I've ever heard. For all you big band heads out there...I'd like to see Buddy Rich play Triad without taking a break to light one up on his floor-tom. Also, there were pauses in between a lot of the songs, but it was still exciting. Alex Grey was in the house, the put the spot-light on him in the crowd. Him and Adam did an awesome job on the backdrops as well as visual effects. I was hoping they'd do Ticks and Leeches, Hooker with a Penis, or Eulogy, but the show was still amazing. Anyway, awesome show...here's the set-list. Sober (after that Adam had some technical problems and there was a big pause) Cover of a Ramones song (didn't get the name of it) The Grudge (awesome backdrop appeared, Danny did a monster solo) (-) Ions Stinkfist (extended) H. Schism* Parabol/a (parts from the video appeared on the screens) Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Ænema Intermission (not the track off Ænema, but literally) Disposition* Reflection* Triad (accompanyed by people on keys and roto-toms)* Lateralus (large mirror ball appeared and did a cool light effect on the theater) *- Maynard on guitar The show kicked, even though there was no opening act or an encore. The mix was kinda jive too, being that the guitar was louder than Maynard for most of the show, and some points you could tell the bass was dragging. I'd definitley see these guys again, hopefully the so-called "planetary alignment" will not interfere with the new album. -later

Maynard was the best ever tonight. He was painted, Issume by Alex Grey, who was there last night to resemble an alien creature with a large flaming lateralus eye on his back surrounded by flame. His head had flames shooting down the sides of his temples and a distinct third eye high on his forehead. I thought it looked like a suit but i could see him sweating through the paint. If anyone knows if alex did paint Maynard let me know. The sound mix was perfect unlike the Sovereign show where Maynards voice had trouble cutting through the thick mix. Radio City had perfect sound. Maynard was cutting through loud and clear. You could hear every word. Tool even paid a tribute to the Ramones, Joey and Dee Dee and covered a Ramones tune. Unbelievable huh? Other than playing an outrageous extended H instead of 46 + 2 the set lsit except for the Ramones cover was the same as Mon. I can't wait to see Maynards paint job thursday. I hope!

Intro Sober The Grudge -Cover- Not sure of the name but I think it was Ramones. Stinkfist H Schism Parabol Parabola The Patient Aenema Intermission Dissposition Reflection Triad Lateralus I hope I got everything right. Yes they played all the little intros and extended versions. The show was decent. I have to say that they were better at MSG last year. It seemed that Adam was having problems with his guitar all night long. Maynard's voice seemed a little weak. He still held out the notes where it counted, but he seemed hesitant on a few songs. The audio mix could have been better, it was hard to hear him sometimes. I'm kinda glad that Tomahawk didn't play. From the reviews they've been getting, I'll only have to sit through them once, at tommorows show in NJ. The vissual aspect of the show was amazing. Alex Greys artwork are the perfect compliment to the music. It was nice to see the band point him out and throw the spotlight on him in the crowd at the end of the night. See you at CAA

This...song...goes out to........joey and deedee... 1.2.3.4... This certainly was an "intimate evening" with the boys; however, it would've been nice if they would've played a little longer since Tomahawk didn't open. If fucking Neil Young can go as long as he does...and the man's practically dead already...but I digress, I digress... The new video footage was incredible as well as Mr. Grey's visceral and infernal imagery; thank you boys... Setlist: Sober The Grudge Ions Stinkfist (super-extended) H (YES!) Aenema Schism Parabol/Parabola The Patient Disposition Reflection Triad (was that Aloke on drums?) Lateralus I may be missing something in my overzealous haste, still feeling a bit high... As far as my personal experience is concerned, it was certainly a conflicting battle between polemics. I bought tix for two others and took the worse of the three seats because it was both of their first experiences: ORCH Row S which was all the way in the back. Although the sound was a bit obscured by the balcony overhanging, this would've been fine if the fuckers wearing TOOL shirts directly behind me hadn't chosen to "be that guy" and sing in high-pitched off-key voices in my ear, yell "Play Hooker with a Penis" every 10 minutes and spill beer on me. Yes, you, the dumb fratpeople in Row T seat 107 or some such... About 5 songs in, I lost it and told her that they hadn't played "Hooker" live in about 7 years. To which she replied, "but isn't it on the enema album" I looked her dead in the eye and said "Oh, do you mean the Aenema album?" This is the same girl that yelled out "this sucks" during "triad" and "oh great, they're gonna play this shit now" when she heard the opening to "reflection." To sum up, I almost got in a fist-fight with drunk frat girls but opted to just sing "learn to swim, learn to swim" directly to her. She didn't understand apparently. The boys in front of me: Row R were mad cool, sharing their spliff and telling me what I missed when frat was too loud. For the most part, everyone around me seemed to be appreciating the journey. If anyone has more info as to who else joined them on stage or "what maynard said", please email me. I couldn't hear as well because of the aforementioned lovely people. Thanks! Thanks for another wet, writhing endeavor, my friends...

Unbelievable as usual! This was my 3rd time seeing them. (my first was Ozzfest 98,then I saw them last year at MSG) They opened up with Sober then followed with a punk rock cover I believe(I couldn't hear what Maynard called it) The visuals were stunning as usual. They changed a few things around from the show last year.I think Adam was having trouble with his guitar effects because his roadie kept coming out to check stuff. As far as I could hear though he sounded alright. Seeing them at Radio City Music Hall was def. a treat.I'll never forget it.In my opinion they carry the torch of my all time favorite band Rush in that they do their own thing and have integrity.Something you don't find to much in the music business anymore.

This by far, most incredible concert I've ever attended. Radio City Music Hall, greatest venue you could possibly fathom seeing your favorite band at. Sober Ramone's cover The Grudge Stinkfist H. Schism parabol/parabola Patient Anema -------- Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus Stood right up against the stage dead center the entire show.. to all of you that hid me from the security guards, I love you all, and see you on thursday.. Maynard came out with the Lateralus artwork all over his body and face done in neon glowing paint( fuckin cool lookin') After Sober Maynard announces "this song goes out to Joey and Dee Dee", and in "Tool- expect the unexpected" fashion, they convered a ramones song, for those of you who werent there, yes we saw Tool cover a punk song. After sober I seen a roadie bring Danny a mic, and surer than shit he counted off "1-2-3- 4" before going into the cover. (Yes, Danny spoke at a show) Rest of the show pretty standard, Maynard was pretty talkative, spoke about how NY and LA shows are filled with industry bullshit and how we remind them what they do this for before going into the patient... then he says "than theres always the fun way" before aenema.. being up close finally allowed me to hear just what the hell the noises are that maynards synth-guitar make.. Vince DeFranco and Danny's "resident Drum-tech" joined them on Triad. Maynard gave the typical "take this moment..." speech and encouraged the crowd to go home and have sex. Once again.. Tool does me dirty, I love you guys.. See you Thursday

This was this reviewer's 11th Tool show

Sorry Kabir, I’m posting this to both nights ‘cause it’s the entire experience more than a specific night that moved me. Like the man says, “Inspiration”. True brilliance. Thank you to all that are Tool. 1st show Trenton First time at this venue, not bad at all. Security didn’t seem too overbearing. I finally got to see an opening act w/Tool ; P I’m not a big fan of everything Mike Patton does (some but not everything) but, Tomahawk seems to be one of the better possibilities. Never heard anything by tomahawk b4 last night and I liked ‘em but, most of Dirty Jersey didn’t seem to think so. Fans were booing pretty bad, really lame. Tomahawk definitely didn’t seem to let it bother them too bad. I’m sayin’ to myself, “Just shut the fuck up, these guys have more creativity in their little toes than any of you could even SPELL!!” Patton wound up making some fucking hilarious statement mentioning “Tha Boss” and Bonjovi. I was laughing my ass off. I think it mighta been Buzz, was playing while flipping the bird. I thought it was pretty funny myself but, sometimes it hard for some to laugh at themselves. Then again, I’m not from (would never wanna to be) from Jersey. John Stanier didn’t seem to let any of this tomfoolery, as he didn’t skip a beat (no lame pun intended). More on him later. I was a little leary of the crowd’s energy after Tomahawk. My first show of the tour, I was/am totally amped. The 1st set, they played a lot of “hits” from Undertow and Aneima. My first few shows, I remember “wanting” to hear something. Now, the list doesn’t matter as much as the energy that is realized does. It’s like women, at 1st u want the hot blond with the big tits then ya get her and you realize….it’s ALL pink inside!!! Sorry ladies. With that being said … they played 46&2…..NICE!!! Brought things back down really well with schism to parabol/a and intermission (I love the new “bobbing” skull graphics ) and eased into the new stuff. Triad was excellent!!!! Stanier added a great energy. He was killing it. Between him and Carey, I was flipping my wig. What a great experience it was to have been there and to feel zeitgeist. As an aside, I read others posts before posting this….I didn’t think the crowd was too bad as far as violence/moshing. I mean, I bounce around and get worked up by these guys but, I my idea of “dancing” also does NOT include charging another human nor expecting another to lift me up. For all of you whiny lil’ elitist “hardcore fans” complaining about people moving on the floor, “Go fuck yourself, you asinine pieces of shit. Don’t buy tickets on the fucking floor!!!!!!!!! Fucking problem solved!” And for you crusty ass non- smokers, stay the fuck home and pop in a cd if you want to hear Tool sans smoke. Sniveling lil’ shits…I know it’s bad for me and everyone else, cognitive dissidence would be the correct terminology for this phenomenon I believe . I thought the guys were DEFINITELY into it. Linus (funkyfresh123@hotmail.com) is the only reviewer I can really identify with here. 2nd show Radio City I gotta thank my old lady for this show (thanx lis’!!), she copped the tix. Way fucking cool that these guys added this show. Very much similar to last year’s pre-tour “An Evening with Tool” show at Hammerstein in the degree of intimacy. Pretty much the same set with a few variations. Second into the set, Maynard shouted out Joey Ramone and they kicked into a cover/tribute (very cool). Very cool. I couldn’t tell what it was as I was could off guard but, it sounded great!!! Very cool. Also, got 4 degrees as opposed to 46+2. Maynard chatted it up a bit more than last night. Making a point to thank Mr. Grey among others. Brooklyn in da house!!! We live one neighborhood away from his shop!!!! ; D The crowd seemed a little subdued but, my guess was that it was the venue. Adam continued to crank away even though somethin’ was goin’ on with his equipment/monitor. Felt like the tech was joining the show for the night. I’m quite sure this had a bit of a negative draw of energy. Triad felt a little flat at some points maybe I’m totally biased after last nights nugget. Yet, the tech filling in had some big shoes to fill and did a great job with it. I think more than anything he was a little nervous (who wouldn’t be!?!?). Going……………….going……………….going……………going………… Sincererly, Thankful, the guy in the black Tool shirt ; P Funniest rumor heard on this tour: “The “glitter” falling from the ceiling….is gold flakes from Danny’s kit!!” Bwahahahaaa!!!!!!! Favorite quote from a Tool show: 2 “biker” dudez with Hell’s Angels back patches, “Local Yokal Chapter” as they smoke some dirt in a bowl, “Huh….I guess these guys, like, feed off the energy of the crowd er somethin’....” WTF!?!

This was my first Tool show, and I gotta say, I wasnt let down. Here's the setlist. It's from memory, so bare with me: Sober Some Ramones song, i dont remember which one The Grudge Stinkfist (extended) H. The patient Aenima Parabol Parabola --Intermission-- Disposition Reflection Triad (extended, amazing Lateralus The best thing about this concert- no Tomahawk!! I freaked out when the guy next to me told me. The worst thing- the fucking bitch behind me dissing Manyard during Disposition. If you're reading this, I was the kid wearing the 1999 yankee shirt with the team roster, and this goes out to you: You fucking bitch. You're a real douche bag. First of all, you payed over $87 to be there, the least you could do is sit back and enjoy the fucking music. And if you didnt pay, i suggest you give your boyfriend/husband/friend the best sex of his life, because he deserves it for you wasting his time to going to a concert with you just to diss them. I wish a deadly and malignant cancer upon you. Anyway, other than that whore, the show was amazing. The lights, the animation, the red confetti, the band itself.. all blended together perfectly. Even my dad enjoyed it. The sound was amazing also. I was amazed at how tight Manyard's voice sounded, Adam's guitar sounded great, Justin's bass cut through my brain, and Danny's drums...I dont think i cant put into words at how good they sounded, or how he played. I also thought Sober was a good opener, I just love thow the opening bass line cut throught all the static...it was simply amazing. Well, thats all I can think of for now. If anyone has audio, pictures, etc, e-mail me, or drop me a line on AIM- Streetcarp12. Thanks.

Un-freaking-believable. Now I can die, Tool rocked Radio City. Like always, the boys brought down a the thunder for us. They covered a Ramones tune, and had a whole new set of mind splitting backdrops, and for the most part all new video for the screens. Totally amazing. The Lateralus artist was in the audience, receiving a special intro from the band. (also the one who painted the new backdrops) Can't wait till next time. Until then.........flush it all away.

Best. Show. Of. My. Life. When I first got to Radio City Music Hall (around 6:45) I saw Alex Grey, literally 2 feet away from me asking a security guard where to get in to paint Maynard. I was shocked. So I then waited in a huge line for about 15 or 20 min. When I got in, I waited a little bit for Tomahawk and bought a soda and an awesome Tool T-Shirt ($30!) Anyway, around 8:10, I thought Tomahawk was going to play, but then on the screen the Lateralus circle of eyes was shown, and I knew Tool was going to hit the stage. There was a really weird music that pumped me up. The crowed cheered as the band came on in the darkness. They opened up strongly with Sober. Maynard was moving in crazy rythyms. After Sober, Maynard said "New York City" 2 times and the crowd went wild. He then said "This. Song. Goes. Out. To. Joey and Dee-dee. They exploded with a fast paced Ramones cover. It was truly a treat to hear them play a song live that I don't think has been played by them before. I don't want to get into too much detail, but the show flowed greatly after that. The setlist was great. (which has been posted before) Me and my friend even smoked a joint during H.!!! This was one of the best experiences of my life.

The setlist was exactly the same as the Baltimore show on the 10th, except for the addition of the Ramones song. What can I say about this show other than "WOW"!. The sound,. the musicianship, the showmanship, the passion, all of it was intense and intensely gratifying. One might think Tool would go out of their way NOT to make a big deal about playing a hall like Radio City, but it was evident it was special to them. Take Maynard, for example. Souped up in day-glow flames like a roadster! What a sight! I have never seen Messrs. Jones and Chancellor so animated. And Danny, was, well, Danny. 'Nuff said. The crowd was as appreciative as I was at Tool taking the opportunity presented to them to play in a hall that would provide the best sound possible, and utilizing it to the max in terms of volume and clarity. My gut is still feeling the punc of each bass drum, each fat plucked string of Justin's axe, and each bone crunching power chord of Adam's Gibson. Long live Tool!

I'm still amazed. that was the best concert I've ever been too. Tomahawk did not open up, and the boys dedicated a song to Joey and DeeDee Ramone after opening up with Sober. Maynard: "this is for Joey and Dee dee" I think it was a cover of one of the Ramones songs but I'm not sure. Maynard had the full blue body paint with the muscle or skeleton designs on top of the blue. with the exception of the Ramones tribute, the setlist was pretty much the same as the past two shows, no 46&2 damn! but "H" was still amazing. the crowd was great, singing along to almost every song. no moshing of course, since the venue was all seating.. but you can feel the mezzanine swaying from side to side with the music. Adam was onpoint all night, (damn I wish i could shake his hand and tell him how much I admire his skills) even though a roadie/techie had to come out a few times to work on his peddles..if there was a problem, i couldn't tell. Justin was pretty active, sometimes giving his back to the crowd..I guess he was jamming along with Danny at the time. Maynard was moving around aswell, mostly swaying from side to side, crouching, stomping his feet and doing the rapid head bang thing. he really didn't do any extravagant moves..I think he gave his back to the crowd once during "The Patient".. played a bass guitar, (I think it was a bass) on Schism, Dis/Reflect And Triad. Danny, well we all know how he does it.. rocking out on the kit, making it look like its a walk in the park. the highlight for me, AEnima..WOW, Maynard said something about "the other side of the business" and started right into the "hey, hey, hey". the crowd went crazy, this live version kicked major ass, i MUST hear it again. (nice touch with the comet scenes on the screens during AEnima) Maynard thanked Alex Grey, they placed the spotlight on Alex and i think he gave everyone two peace signs (the crowd cheered) I really didn't want to get into details hear, cuz its late and pretty much everything else has been said in past reviews.. About the art.. Maynard "speeches" etc, so i just wrote down what i can remember at this time. I'm sure someone else will come around with a bigger and better review. I'm just really happy, that i was fortunate to see Tool this year.. two days after my birthday and with such wonderful fans that Tool has. I really felt the positive energy in the venue all night. you guys (the fans) rock! thank you, TOOL.. for giving all you have and for such a great b-day present.... till next time. hopefully I'll have better seats. if anybody cares, i was the guy in a trance, sitting on the third mezzanine Row A seat 401 i was perfectly aligned with the 7 pointed star that drops down, is that cool or what? The Setlist (This should be the correct order) Sober Ramones Cover (Couldnt tell which song it was) The Grudge H Stinkfist Schism Parabol/Parabola AEnima The Patient Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus this should be the correct order

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. I just woke up about a half hour ago. I am physically drained and I didn't even get that fucked up. I drank about 5 beers on the train and walked 17 blocks to Radio City. Got there around 10 after 8 o'clock. My girlfriend and I walked into the glorious Radio City and both felt uncomfortable being in such a classy place. Wall to wall carpeting and everything. The place looked like a glamorous dining hall or something. We went to get some beer and I realized after 15 minutes that the line I was on did not have Budweiser. After another 10 minutes I finally got one......actually 3. Unfortunately I could hear Sober being played at around 8:40 before i got to my seat. I don't think Tommahawek even played because the show was supposed to start at 8. We finally got to our seats just as Sober ended. We were on the 3rd level but out view was awesome. The Grudge kicks in and we are ready to go. It smelled like weed all around us so I felt comfortable enough to smoke my one hitter w/o any worries about security. Nobody in our section was standing but that was fine with me. I was fine just sitting back at letting it soak in. The Grudge ended with the maynard scream for about 20 seconds. Then they went into Stinkfist. Maynard stomping to the beat like a neanderthal on his little platform. Then came H. I was expecting it but it still kicked my ass. The crowd chimed in with "I don't miiiiiiiiind" at the end of it. Schism was played as I kept smoking my one hitter. Good stuff. Parobol/Parabola was next. That guitar lick at the start of Parabola is still a brain smasher even after hearing it so many times. The Patient was next and was one of the many highlights. These red lights kicked in and were fucking with my head even though I was fairly sober. I was just sitting back in my seat and letting the band just fuck with my head. I felt like I was melting in my chair by the end of the song. AEnima was next and the crowd just exploded. My 3 beers were gone and I knew the intermission was coming next so i got more beers which were convenientally only about a minute away from my seat. Disposition was next followed by Reflection and then Triad with help from some of the guys from Tommahawk(I'm assuming). Triad was definitely the highlight of the show. I was completely blown away. They ended with a kickass version of Lateralus. I was so happy to have been there. It was such an amazinmg show. I was happy to be somewhat sober so i could sink it all in and remember it thoroughly. Maynard said a few things during the show. "New York fucking city huh." etc... The show ended and nobody left. We were all just standing there clapping for about 5 minutes. They didn't do anything special but we didn't need it. What they do onstage is special enough. They are the best band around. Nobody can hold a candle to them. Truly amazing. Can't wait for Thursday.

This was the most magnificent display of music that I have ever seen: Setlist: -Sober -some sort of punkish song ...never heard it before -(-) ions -The Grudge -Stinkfist (extra lyrics and a sick extended bridge) -H. (Unbe-f'n-lievable) -Schism -Parobol/Parabola -Aenima -Eon Blue Apocolypse/The Patient (This was the most amazing thing I think I have ever seen in my life...it was so moving) --------------- Intermission (Weird Noises with cool visuals) --------------- -Disposition/Reflection -Triad (Incredible) -Lateralus The setlist was overwhelmingly powerful. What made it even better was the energy feeding off the band....Maynard was very very into the music last night and also very talkative. I cant wait to see them in Jersy.

Overall, the show was amazing. Radio city proved to be the perfect venue for Tool- every one was pretty much centered w/ the stage and the seats prevented the assholes from moshing during disposition, reflection and other songs that just should not be moshed to. The stage setup was phenominal and consistantly became more and more intracet as the night went on, reaching the plateau at reflection. THe high points of the showfor me were H. and Aenima- MAynard sang H. a little bit differently than the studio version- it was a delightful twist. The place errupted with Aenima- it was beautifully played with great lighting. Crowd was surprisingly dead during the radio-favorite Schism. THe shape and texture of the ceiling of Radio City provited a perfect surface for projected images, at times the theater resembled a planetarium. Only downfall to the show was that the setlist was too similar to last years tour, (Disposition, Reflextion, Triad, LAteralus, The Patient, THe grudge, and stinkfist were all common components of last years tour.) --M-R-Z

In my opinion, a superb show. First off, to my surprise, there was no band opening. I admit I was almost looking forward to checking out M ike Patton's new band, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear Sober instead of what I was expecting. Tool played pretty much the same set that they've been playing, so there weren't too many surprises except for a Ramones cover dedicated to Dee Dee and Joey (I found it altogether amusing but most of the crowd seemed pretty dumbfounded.) There were definetely a couple of songs that would have made the night better, but I personally was satisfied once I heard H. Another amusing moment happened during Stinkfist, when a good portion of the fans who were singing along forgot (or just didn't know) that the live version of the song isn't quite the same. All in all, an excellent night and even though tickets cost $80 a piece I still think it was well worth it.

The legendary RCMH... It was a hot and sticky night in Gotham. Tickets were very hard to come by for An Evening with TOOL. Sold out in five minutes. Now if you have been to all the venues in Manhattan, you'll know that RCMH is argueable the best for sound and view and tonight it would not disappoint. TOOL went off at 830pm. Great stage show with the screens as mentioned at previous reviews. I'll let someone else post the set list. But, TOOL played a nice tribute to Joey and DeeDee. A cool cover of Commando. Too bad that many of the kids had no idea as to what was going on. The sound of the night was heart numbing. The low end bass reverberated through the building, the seats and my atrial and mitral valves. Unbelievable! The music was tight as you would expect. Maynard was almost hidden from view for most of the night. He was a wrenching creature in the backround the flowed with the tunage. Nice. My precious. By 1030pm, I was amazed and fufilled. I proceeded on Maynard;s recommendation and went and had sex. Bud

Well I’ve never been to Radio City Music Hall before and I must say the place is amazing. The seats I had were incredible, center stage view from the first mezzanine, absolutely perfect. The night was perfect There was no opener tonight, and Tool took the stage at around 8:30, and sure enough opened with Sober which sounded great. The setlist was the same as last show. Adam Justin Danny and Maynard were very into it all night. Maynard was fully painted and very animated, he sounded and looked awesome. The entire show was very powerful and the sound in Radio City was perfect. Some of the highlights for me were the extended Stinkfist, which was awesome, as well as Aenima, which was very fucking INTENSE. It was awesome to hear H, one of my favorites, and they played it perfect live. Maynard did speak more than usual thanking NYC for being so strong for the rest of the country. He also told us to go home and have sex after the “create something positive” speech. Maynard also thanked Alex Grey for the artwork and he was actually in the audience as they shinned a light on him, and I must say the background visuals and projection screen visuals were stunning, lot’s of surprises. Then Lateralus was simply amazing, a great song, the whole place was into it. Lot’s of energy in the place the entire show. They received a huge standing ovation from the audience after Lateralus and they hugged and threw some goodies into the crowd. Another amazing show. Thank you Tool for another magical night. See you soon.

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

This so was absolutely unbelievalbe. It was an opportunity of a life time to see Tool in venue as nice as Radio City Music Hall. Here's the setlist: - Sober - Ramones's cover song (not sure which one, but Maynard dedicated it to Joey) - The Grudge - Stinkfist - H. - Schism - Parabol - Parabola - Eon Blue Apocolypse - The Patient - Aenima -- Intermission -- - Disposition - Reflection - Triad - Lateralus Tonight Tomahawk did not open. I hear that they played their own show at Irving Plaza. My friend and I arrived at Radio City Music Hall around 7:30 or so and walked around. This was our first time in this venue and was very impressive. Around 8:15 or so, the lights went out and the Lateralus eyes appeared on the screens. Adam, Justin, and Danny came out. A minute or so later, Maynard joined them on stage. From my view (1st mezzanine) Maynard was painted completely blue with yellow or orange spots. He was moving quite alot even before they played the first note of Sober. Once Justin played the opening riff to Sober the crowd went nuts, singing every word along with Maynard. MJK then dedicated the next song to Joey (i'm assuming Ramone) and they began to play a Ramone song. Not exactly sure which one though. This caught alot of people off guard and you could tell that alot of people were looking around wondering " What song is this???" The Grudge was next. I think this would be a much better opener than Sober, however it's an amazing song in an event. Stinkfist was played next. They played the extended version which caught alot of people off guard and was quite amusing. The Stinkfist video was played during this song. Next up was H. I really had a feeling that they were going to play this song since they played 46&2 the previous night. This was a real priviledge to hear live. Maynard let the crowd sing "I don't mind..." and then they stopped and he yelled, " I... I... I DON'T MIND!!!!" Truely amazing! Schism was next, followed by a full version of Parabol, and then Parabola. All three were played to perfection and got a huge response from the crowd. Eon Blue Apocolypse echoed throughout the venue and was immediately followed by The Patient. During The Patient, red confetti fell from the ceiling which looked so cool. Then came the moment of truth. Were they going to play Opiate or Aenima? I heard Aenima the night before, so I was really hoping to hear Opiate. The lights turned blue and Maynard started with the "Hey.. Hey.. Hey". Though I was slightly disappointed, they tore Radio City apart with this song. AMAZING. After the intermission, they played Disposition, Reflection, Triad, and Lateralus like they have throughout the tour. All four were played flawless and capped off a truely incredible night! Few more side notes of the show. I noticed that Tool's guitar tech came out alot during the beginning of the show. I'm not certain, but I think Adam was having a little trouble with his guitar or what not. He looked a little frustrated at one point. Maynard was very talkative tonight, which was very nice. Towards the end of the show, Maynard acknowledged Alex Grey as the artist responsible for the backdrops for the tour and a spot light revealed him sitting in the Orchestra section about half ways back. Tonight's show was definetly amazing, however Tool definetly had the opportunity to blow us away. Not only were they playing at Radio City Music Hall, but there was no opening act and the ticket prices were more expensive then any of the other shows. I thought maybe we were going to get 4 Degrees, Flood, Opiate, or Third Eye in addition to the regular set list because of these circumstances. I was quite surprised that they didn't do anything too special, however The Ramones cover song was pretty cool. Not trying to take anything away from the band. It was truely a life changing experience. If you have yet to see Tool and have the opportunity, take it!!! It will change your life forever and is worth ever cent. Thanks again guys for a wonderful show and Happy Birthday to John who went to the show with me.

Since we can't view the concert page yet, I'm just going to assume that someone else will type out the show's setlist. In short, it was the usual one for this tour, we got H. instead of 46 & 2. We also got the little treat, TOOL's tribute to Joey and Didi Ramone, a very surprising and quite interesting Ramones cover. I sure as hell never expected that. Very good sound, but I expected that from Radio City. Since there was no opening act, I was hoping for a longer show from TOOL but (with the exception of the Ramones tune) nothing out of the ordinary when compared with the most recent shows. It certainly is interesting to experience TOOL from the safety of a seat as opposed to fighting for space in the front of the stage. You can certainly see a lot more, but if you are the type that likes to move around, dancing in place in front of your seat can be a little weird. The most interesting observance of the night, at least where I was (mezzanine 1) was how at least 3/4 of the people sat during most of the show (and pretty much through everything after the intermission). I didn't care much about the sitting because I could see great (I stood the whole time), but I could hear people chatting during the quieter points which was a little irrating. With the exception of the radio songs, much of the crowd seemed unreceptive (or at least unmoved) but much of the show. However, after songs were done the crowd erupted with applause, this seemed to me almost out of courtesy more than anything else. Perhaps I'm way off base here, but it's just what I personally felt. In a lot of ways, TOOL has seemed to become two different bands with two different fanbases depending on the era of music they play (Of course, some of us enjoy all the albums). After each of the TOOL concerts I usually bitch about the fans, and this time is no exception. Though the seated venue protected you from the throngs of moshing homo erectus, it was conducive to the above mentioned chatter and certain seated individuals even got angry at those who remained standing. I saw one guy who seemed to be really enjoying the Disposition/Reflection/Triad trilogy while those daydreaming of Swamp Song yelled at him to sit down. One Abercrombie and Fitch model even approached the poor guy, distracting him from probably his favorite TOOL song, to tell him to "sit the fuck down you freak." But my hero in Mezzanine 1 section 100 (I think it was section 100, I was next to his section in 200) did not sit down and enjoyed the rest of the trilogy doing that awkward little within-the-seat- boundary dance that many of us were struggling with last night. One final note: Wasn't it a bit amusing how far back Alex Grey's seat was? You'd think TOOL would hook up the man responsible for the Lateralus artwork with something a little bit closer.

The show last nigth was fantastic. I'm most upset with being stuck with any extra ticket, who wouldn't want to see Tool in a great place like Radio City Music Hall? Kicking it into full gear right of the bat with Sober, the band then played a tribute to The Ramones, Maynard told the crowd it was dedicated to Joey and Dee Dee, former members of THe Ramones who have since passed. Takign a ride through almost all of Lateralus, the music itself was intoxicating. I can't wait till I see them again tommorrow in NJ.

August 13th, 2002. Simply put one of the most amazing days in my life. I got into NYC at around 3:30, and met up with some people from oolarmy.com howere pretty cool. I hung around for about an hour when i headed down to Penn Station to meet the guy who was buying my etra ticket. After the exchange i headed back to radio city for the first toolarmy gathering. After about half an hour i headed over to radio city with a camera stuck in my crotch ( no cameras were permitted). After waiting on a 4 block long line i was in! The usher kindly escorted me to my seat, which i was more pleasd with than i can explain. Dead center, 7 rows back. After buying a soda and a tshirt i sat down, shortly thereafter the show started. This being my first time seeing tool live, I didn't know what to expect. They opened with sober, and for the next 2 hours i was in complete awe at the visuals, music, stage presence, and overall performance put on by this band. I am forever changed. setlist: Sober commando (ramones cover) H - ions stinkfist schism parabol parabola eon blue apocalypse the patient aenema intermission disposition reflection triad lateralus amazing show. best live band ive ever seen in my life. the ramones cover was also a treat, as too lrarely covers other bands at all, especially live. thank you tool, ill see you in east rutherford. ps- sadly, my pictures did not come out, i guess i deserve it :X

I am a little over 24 hours removed from the TOOL, Radio City show, and I am left in awe, as have most people who went to the show. For some odd reason, Tomahawk did not go on. The show was supposed to be at 8:00, but after the opening act didn't go on, TOOL went on at about 8:30. Anyway, here's the setlist (I'm pretty sure this is the order in which they played them, but I am definitely sure that these are all the songs they played). Sober *A Ramones song, but I'm not sure which one, because I am really not a Ramones fan. TOOL made it sound nice, though, much nicer than I'm sure the Ramones played it. Maynard told the audience it was dedicated to Joey and Didi, which makes sense, being that the show was in NYC. A real nice touch it had. Stinkfist The Grudge Schism H Aenima (-)ions Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Parabol Parabola Disposition Reflection Triad (Featuring their drum technician, and someone else who's name I've forgotten. but I do remember, however, Maynard also introducing him as employee of the month at Wal-Mart) Lateralus Extra strong points of the show were Aenima, and everything from Disposition on. All in all, TOOL were completely on top of their game the whole night, and couldn't have sounded much better. Maynard's voice was as if he were planning on having it recorded for the show. He kept addressing the crowd with messages such as " Is this or is this not New York City? " and " New York is always a big show, thank you for reminding us why we do what we do ", you know, something along those lines. As for his attire, Maynard was wearing nothing but little black shorts, and paint. His whole body was painted with the Lateralus eyes and flame and the such. He kept moving around from side to side, almost tribal like. Reminded me of the alien from Signs. Definitely go see Signs, and afterwards, if you've got time, check out TOOL if they're playing near you. They're not bad at all.

This was this reviewer's 1st! Tool show

What a way to see my first tool concert! After much trepidation (and cajoling), one of my favorite NY PDs (that’s a Program Director, in radio-speak) found it in his heart to part with his 2nd row center tickets to Radio City. The 2nd row in Radio City is actually part of the Orchestra pit, and the feeling there is like seeing a bar band with the best surround sound and acoustics on the planet. I had a feeling that the show would rock like none other thanks to Salival and a few non-authorized live sets I’ve heard from them, but the way tool gets the music to crawl under your skin and reverberate their plea for meta-consciousness never felt more urgent then this! The set list was identical to other shows posted up here except the second song was a Ramones song (dedicated to Didi and Joey), so this non-Tomahawk-opening show didn’t bring any real (and expected by the crowd) surprises to my knowledge. No matter. The sound in Radio City, especially up close, is incredible and will probably be the benchmark for any future tool shows I see (like CAA on Thursday). My only criticism is that some of the trickier meters in some of the songs could have been tighter to my ears, but a few disassociated beats in a concert full of sonic twists and turns are not in the least disheartening. I was still dancing and singing like some intellectual-metal shaman. If you’ve never seen tool and you’re reading this, get to the next show nearest you by any means possible. PS – Maynard = psychedelic smurf

First off i would like to state that out of my 4 tool experiences I've had the oppertunity to enjoy their performance twice on the floor, Hammerstein and Soverign Bank Arena, and twice in a seat, MSG and lastnight's Radio City Music Hall. Although u get to move around more on the floor, i prefer to watch from a seat and not have to worry ab the fact that 75% of the sweat in which im soaked in isn't my own. Also u get to see more of everything and absorb everything going on. Being that i saw tool the day b4 yesterday in Trenton and then lastnight at Radio City, i was able to get pretty much the same set at 2 different points of view. And i must say i enjoyed Radio city much better, but then again it could also be that every time i see them seems to be better and better. Tool to me is a very inspiring representation of music as an art and not just entertainment. The energy and vibe in the air at a Tool show is very positive and overwhelmingly wonderful. I was dissappointed that they did not play Pushit, but it was still a great show. The backdrop was a wonderful colorful arrangement of a face and there was a fetus on the sides n i think a skull in between them. and the lights projected on it made it an overall beautiful sight. Even the lights on top the stage were arranged in that star that they often have on set and later on did add to the set. The screens on the side are always very mind boggling and somewhat trippy scenes that fit in w/ the songs and music and make u feel the experience more n more. Then flag- like things were dropped w/ pictures from the lateralus cover, and later the background became a patern of flaming lateralus eyes, which were done by a dude named alex that maynard thanked and sed "every1 say thank you alex". i certainly did.. At one point there was red sparkles coming from the celing and a disco ball came dwn an reflected its light all over the venue adding to the intense vibe and wonderful feeling of being there. The show was wonderfully done and maynard spoke quite alot more then he did at any other show that ive been to which totally delighted me. I sat in the orchestra section not far from the stage, but dam i wish i was closer. They opened with sober which i think was a good choice. im sure other people will give the whole setlist which i honestly wouldnt b able to tell u in order so im not goin to go through all that. But i will go through my favorites.. During the grudge adam seemed to be havin sum sort of difficulties with his guitar but i think he and the rest handled it very well and it still was played wonderfully. When they played aenema the whole crowd definately got completely into it and all hyped up. I loved when they played reflection. it is one of my favorite songs off of lateralus and it was magnificent. They closed with lateralus which is the most excellent song to close with and another favorite of mine. i must say i couldnt wait til they played it yet i didnt want them to because i knew it would mean the show was over, but nevertheless they played the song n i shouted the lyrics at the top of my lungs and truely enjoyed every moment of it. afterwards the band came to the front of the stage for their group hug n threw things into the crowd, of course nowhere near where i was. ;( Then maynard was the first to leave the stage n the others soon followed. It was a wonderful experience and hopefully i wil have many more to come. I must say if i was to ever meet any memeber of tool it would be too much for me to take and i'd just have to drop dead on the spot. They have inspired me so much for so long and never cease to amaze me with their poetic, symbolic, inspirational lyrics, AMAZING drumming, WONDERFUL guitars/bass and their art filled performances and overall their immense talent and artistic/musical ability. When outside the venue a kid walked by me and sed "Are you from NY? You are so lucky, that was the most amazng thing ive ever seen right there" I just smiled n nodded and replied that it had nothing to do w/ NY, Tool is just greatly wonderful, magical, and immensely inspiring, which is the dead honest truth. I am completely thankful for the experience, and for all the wonderful music tool has given to us. i have been inspired and touched deeply and i am ever so grateful for everything. Maynard, Danny, Adam, Justin.. Thank you. You fellas truely are artists.

It's fucking amazing when a band gets better every time you get to see them. It's even more amazing when they sound better live than they do on their cds. The show at Radio City was the absolute best concert I've been to in my entire life. Our seats were on the third mezzanine level, which at first bummed me out a bit, but once we got there I couldn't have asked for anything more perfect. I was able to see everything from where we were and it wasn't that far from the stage. Even though they played similar songs from previous tours, nothing compares to last nights show. The interaction between the band and the audience was amazing. TOOL is such a unique band because they not only perform so well, but they create a place where the crowd can go that is like no other. Thank you for being a part of this world which never dissapoints, and for being a strong inspiration in my life. The setlist....... and thank you for playing H., and proving how insane Triad is... This was this reviewer's 4th Tool show

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. Tool was fucking awesome, I had seen them in baltimore and made the trek up to New York to see the New York show. After four hours of driving (and a full day of work) we got to the city but continued to gfet hassled while trying to park. No worries always partk on the street and hope to not get a ticket. Anyways the show was fucking awesome. Tool even covered a song from the Ramones (commando) in honor of Joey and Dee 0ee Ramone. I can only remember the set list after that because I have still not had any sleep for the last almost three days. H. Schism Parabol Parabola Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Aenima ------------------------ Disposition Reflection Triad (with John Paul and keyboards by vincent) Lateralus The show was awesome it was more intimate than the arena shows, and the feeling one gets from the sound traveling up and around the dome ceiling is unbelievanle. Afterwards Maynard suggested that he hopes the audience laves feeling positive and "horny". He went on to say "WE SUGGEST YOU GO HOME AND HAVE SEX." I wasn't able to do this but that's because I got home almost at 6 AM and went to work 7:30 AM. Awesome fucking show. Can't wait for the possibility of them coming around again in the fall.

This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

The first time I saw Tool in 1996 at The Roseland in NYC, They immediately took top rank in the category of best damn rock show i've ever seen. Placing a note above the runner-ups: 1991- The Ramones @ The Ritz (old Studio 54), NYC. 1992- Iron Maiden & Anthrax @ Brendan Byrne Arena (now Continental Airlines Arena), E. Rutherford, NJ, 1996- RATM @ The Roseland....and 1994- Pink Floyd @ Giants Stadium, NJ. (well maybe tied with Pink Floyd :). 5 years later, Lateralus is released and I can't believe they actually outdone themsleves...again! When I saw them the second time at Verizon Amphitheater in Irvine, CA last year, I was expecting to have my jaw dropped in awe at what would surely be the 'even better then best' damn rock show I would ever see. Well my jaw was dropped allright, in disbelief. I was...well...disgustipated. I found myself in agreement with the guy who yelled, "Enough with the dick show! Play some f***ing music!" during the "naked people hanging from the lighting truss" interlude. Don't get me wrong, It's Tool, I still loved the music, but the show was not what I predicted. (Ha! look at my ego thinking that I can predict Tool). So I crucified the ego (sorry, had to do it) and at the Radio City show, let what ever will bewilder me (damn, i did it again!). I knew 3 things about this show. 1. It's Radio City Music Hall. 2. It's New York City 3. It's Tool. Upon entering the theater, with the classic red carpet, and red velvet seats, I could almost hear the Rockettes leg kicking in line (well I could definately picture it). With the first split second of the first note played that night, I knew this was gonna be good. They opened with Sober. The crowd goes f-in' nuts. They followed with The Grudge. They pause, everyone is hungry for more... Maynard on the mic: "Is this New York?"...(crowd roars)...Maynard again, "IS THIS NEW YORK!?" ...(louder roars)...."I'm not convinced." The following crowd noise I'm sure had the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ellis Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr. and Tony Bennet rolling over and saying, "What the hell is going on over there!". The setlist contained everything from Lateralus except Ticks and Leeches. No problem, considering the played Aenima, Stinkfist and a song I wasn't familiar with, dedicated to Didi and Joey Ramone (might have been an obscure ramoes cover, e-mail me if you know what it was. Unfortunatley I don't have the exact setlist, I wasn't planning on writing a review). The only thing that compared to the music was the awesome screens playing in sync the humanistic, pleasantly disturbing visions which are now a hallmark of Tool's shows. Add that to the floating molecule-like things as seen in the Parabola video, and this was a holy reality, holy experience indeed. (that was the last time, i promise). It was a damn good time, Justin looked as if he was having more fun up there then Michael Jackson at the little league world series. Adam was his usual focused self, you could tell he wanted to run around the stage, but he can't get to far away from his effects board...Danny is best drummer in his genre, fluid. Even MJK left his platform more then usual. His voice was on as usual, but I do think it cold have been a tad more present in the mix. (That would be my sole gripe). He expressed his satisfaction with the show on mention of "being in a rut" and how "people like you (the crowd) make it all worth it". (quotes aren't exact). I would imagine this is referring to the mixed bad reviews they've been getting this past tour. Finally at the end of Lateralus and a really incredible crowd response, He said, "I hope you leave tonight feeling inspired, and creative......go home, relax..... and have sex". Genius.

Well, we lucked out. We got an email from ticketmaster saying that we could take a backstage tour at radio City and "you never know who you might see" So we took the tour, with "Rusty" our friendly, muppet-faced tour guide, and first we heard the soundcheck, the we saw it...very cool. Until one of their asshole security guards rudely told our tour guide off, we thought Rusty was going to cry, the guy was totally out of line and being a complete dick. We were told that we would not be going in the auditorium area because of the soundcheck going on. We were in one those rooms above the very top mezzanine level. Personally I don't think that security would have even come up there if he, or someone else hadn't seen 4 obvious-looking Tool fans, but that's just my opinion :) Even in sound check they blew me away! And the show rendered me speechless (which is very hard to do!) They were amazing, flawless, in other words, they were Tool. Alex Grey was in the audience and Maynard was all painted up, had the 3rd eye on his back, really nice paint job! It looked great. He said that we should all go home and have lots of sex, I don't think anyone had a problem following those directions. They were just amazing and if I would have gotten hit by a bus as I stepped onto the street after the show, that would have been ok....Need I say more?? Thanks for a great experience.......LZ

THE GREATEST SHOW I WILL EVER SEE IN MY LIFE!! The visuals were the same as the other shows on the tour. The band sounded incredible. Here is the set: Merkaba/Sober A tribute song to someone - (I couldn't understandf what it was but it sounded punk and was great! Maynard used a megaphone) The Grudge Stinkfist H - (crowed went crazy) Schism Parabol/a Eon Blu/ Patient Aenema -----Intermission------- Dis/Ref/Triad Lateralus This was the first show I have seen by TOOL that I was rtight up front. Let me say that you have to experience these guys live right in their face..its a whole different experience! Every song sounded incredible..Maynard was totally feeling the vib and was showing it all show. He came out painted all blue or black (couldn't tell cause it was dark) but was painted with neon green and pink? colors all up his legs and down his arms and the paint on his face made it look like he was wearing a mask (if you have ever seen billy madison think of the "revolting blob") he had the third eye painted on his forehead and in his chest he had the two third eyes that meet eachother like in the end of the video for parabol/a, I never seen anything like it. As soon as I seen him like that right before sober began, I went nutty. Radio City is an incredible place to see a show. On a side note, the security was great everyone got in fine and there was no moshing or anything like that. The crowd was great. It seemed like Adam was having some trouble in the begining with his guitar but nothing serious. Maynard was calling for his mic to be turned up a little louder during the show. He gave the usual speech except he told us to "go home and have sex" and wanted us to feel "horney". he also said something about the NY and LA shows being ones that they most enjoy. Considering it was an unannounced show in NY, and just "An evening with TOOL" i figured they were gonna play all kinds of songs off Aenima and Undertow, but the only exchange was from 46&2 from Trenton (which I also saw) to H in NY. Still a wonderful treat though and a show that I will never forget. Also Alex Gray was in the audience tonight and Maynard gave him a shout-out as the whole place erupted to support his art-work. He is an incredible artist by the way in case you havent had a chance to see the visuals on this tour yet. INCREDIBLE!! See you in CT.! (I have some shows on tape from the previous tour and would like to ask if anyone taped this show either by video or audio, please e-mail me and maybe we could work out a trade deal or something...it would be GREATLY appreciated!!!)

Great show at Radio City Music Hall. Intimate setting, great setlist and Maynard talked. Alot! Alex Grey's artwork was great along with the visuals on the 2 large screens. Crowd was into it but my section was sitting most of the time (3rd Mezz) which kind of sucked but whatever. Also, in comparison to last years show, it was good to see Maynard not in silouette. The Ramones cover was also very good. Cant wait until tonight's show at Continental.

WOW.....The sound in Radio City was awsome. So clear, so loud, so perfect. Was the second song played a Ramones cover??? No opening act. Just TOOL. Anyway Maynard was very vocal this night. He kept talking and talking and that is usually not the case. Alex Gray was at the show on the floor. Maynard thanked him for the artwork. Thought he would have had a better seat...The show was so good, so much better that the night before in Trenton. Many people for Trenton said the show there was so great. I disagree... See previous post. The show in NYC was by far so much better. The venue, the sound, the crowd, the band. All the pieces fit and everything came together full circle. See you tonight at Continental Airlines Arena.

I won't post a setlist - you can get the setlist elsewhere. The show was amazing, as always. Danny Carey is the best drummer of all time. My only regret is that the band didn't change things up a little bit more from the other setlists posted, and from the last time I saw them at the Garden in October. Some people here are so funny, you raise one concern and say it wasn't absolute perfection and they freak out. Send me your e-mails, beligerent fuckers, I look forward to them. Personally, I have been aching to hear the song Intolerance played live but have never heard it. Also the song Bottom. Oh, Adam had some serious guitar problems that lasted right up to the intermission. My friend suggested that his guitar tech be executed immediately. I thought that was perhaps a bit harsh, but his inability to solve the problem quickly was reminiscent of a Spinal Tap show. The Druids. I really love the artwork this time around from Lateralus, by the same artist. Most songs were killer, although Adam actually made a mistake during Stinkfist (I think he was distracted by all the technical problems he was having and wasn't focused). I personally could do without hearing both Disposition AND Reflection during a live show. One is beautiful, but two is a bit much for a live show. For a live show. For a LIVE show. Oh, I should mention that the second song they played was a tribute to the Ramones, to Joey and Dee who as you know have recently passed on. I'm not sure what song it was, but I'm pretty certain it was a Ramones song. I left the theatre with an incredible charge of positive energy as I always do at a Tool show. If I had to rank this show among other Tool shows I have seen, it was second only to the first time I saw them at the Hammerstein Ballroom. It was better than both Madison Square Garden shows I saw. Nice work - "thank you, boyzzzzz...."

This was not a show that i originally planned to attend but a lucky email from a ticket agent with a single seat available 13 rows from the stage swayed my decision. This was my second TOOL show and due to the venue and how close i was to the band this blew my previous experience away. Maynard was dressed in a glow in the dark, full body, skeleton suit and was situtated in the rear of the stage behind Justin.........and was going bollistic the whole show i might add. They opened with Sober (1st time seeing performed live) and closed with Lateralus, kicking some seroius ass in between. This band is something special and i cannot see these motherfuckers enough.....that is why i will also be attending the show on thursday in the meadowlands. Life cannot get much better than this. Phenomenal. Is there any other word to describe the group with the tightest chops and best sage presence?! I think not. It was 2 and a half hours of sheer bliss. Tomahawk did not open. {I had really wanted to see tem, too. ce'st la vie.} I'm still searching for the complete setlist. I was in so much awe at the time that I honestly can't remember everything they played. I can tell you, however, that they opened with Sober and then did some Ramones cover tune. {At least, that's what I assume, because Maynard said, "This is for Joey and Deedee." I'm not familar enough with Ramones material to tell you which one it was, though. Sorry.} Other songs that they played during the evening included The Patient {during which a most magical thing occured. I won't spoil the surrise for those of you who have yet to see a show on this tour!} Let's see...we had Parabol/Parabola, Stinkfist, Aenema, Lateralis, H, The Grudge {my favorite of the night!} And a wonderful little 15 minute jam session with Danny's drum tech {who, according to Maynard is also the band's, "...resident psychic and tarot card reader"} and a keyboardist friend of the band's {who was once named Employee of the Month at some Wal~Mart in California. Again, Maybard filling in the details!} It rocked so hard. It was so good that it hurt, kids! The whole ambience of the show was incredible. The Alex Grey screens and backdrops were a force to be reckoned with. And of course the video footage was beautifully disturbing as ever. They showed the Stinkfist and Parabola video footage along with videos for every othrr song that the played. One of the more memorable pieces of cinematograpy came in the form of "porn." {I don't really consider it porn, because I felt as though it was done with far more taste. Others might beg to differ.} Anyway, there's nothing like hearin yor favorite band live while watching people on gigantic screns going at it. Few things compare. At the end of the show, Maynard said something along the lines of {but not EXACTLY!}, "...We hope that we've been a sort of catalyst for you tonight. We hope that you leave here inspired and horny. Yeah, we hope you're horny. So go home and have sex." You KNOW that a lot of people did just that! One of the last things that Maynard said was, "It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day bullshit and forget why it is you do what you do. And you all remind us why we do this. Thank you." He must have thanked the audience about 10 times. You can tell that he really loves his audiences and the energy that they give to him. He's so fan-savvy. I think that's really admirable, because few musicians are these days. The group embraced onstage at the end and they all looked anorexic compared to Danny! I hadn't realized it until then. Nobody ever said that being a fierce drummer was an easy position to fill, I guess! It was definitely another great concert to add to the list of Top 5 best shows ever!!

Yeah the show was amazing...amazing stage setup/effects...Mr. Danny Carey is a true sicko... I figured that they were gonna play a special set, being that the venue was so special and that they were playing w/o an opener...I am glad that I didn't look at the previous reviews b/c then I would have known what they were going to play...I can only imagine the amount of time it takes to get tight on some of their songs and how hard it must be to add songs to a set....when the hell would they get a chance to practice it, you know? So, i'll shut up about that now... Nonetheless, an inspirational show to say the least.

Tool as always put on a show that would make anyone a Tool fan for life if they saw it live. Maynard jamming on guitar was just one of the newer things this tour along with best Tool stage show I've seen. They opened it up with sober to get the place going and from then on I was in a state of bliss that can only be felt at a live Tool concert. Never a dull moment can't wait til next time. Holy shit, this was an intimate evening indeed. They had no opening band, this was all out Tool, and it was freaking radio city music hall, a small place compared to any other arena. The lights dim, and out they come, Maynard is fully painted in lateralus form, like at the end of the parabola video. They blast right into Sober, intense indeed. Then Maynard dedicated the next song to Dee Dee and Joey from the Ramones, and so they played a Ramones Song. At this point i was so hyped up my recollection of the next few songs is not perfect. Heres the setlist Sober Commando (Ramones) The Grudge (-) Ions Stinkfist H. Schism Parabol Parabola Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Ænema Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus Throughout the whole concert there had been a ton of props. Alex Grey was at the concert, and he contributed so much of his art for the show, it was just amazing. Also Maynard had a lot to say, almost every other song he would talk to us. Once about the industry, another about the music, then about alex grey, and so on. Personally though, the music was incredible, and I know you all know that. I think Ænema gave me an orgasm, but during disposition and reflection i closed my eyes and let go, and let the music surge through my body. It was the greatest experience. At the end of the concert Maynard talked about putting the music to good use, and that we should all go home and have sex =) I can't wait to see them again.

Not as good as the Beacon, but definitely better then MSG. No opening act, all TOOL. This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

Ok to start off I was thinking radio city was gonna be a LITTLE bit more special then it was but I was not dissapointed I'm only on my second tool show because I had seen them the night before at Trenton....big fan but a more new fan so I haven't seen them tour...the show from begining to end was filled with more power and emotion than the night before. Set list to the best of my knowledge... Sober Ramones song? the grudge ions? stinkfist H amazing...more later now its getting a bit fuzzy....hehe someone else will have a better memory... schism or parabol/parabola first? schism? prarabol parabola the patient aenema disposition reflection triad lateralus so sorry for mistakes you other tool kids can prove me wrong Radio City was a little fuzzy I was too in awe all night to take notes.... From the moment maynard stepped foot on his stage he was moving to the music that wasn't their painted? or in some kind of body suit...black light effected....oh well I was close enough to see his back had a big lateralus eye on it?? err right? Adam had some trouble with his guitar which sucked but they made up for it. In the middle of stinkfist was this solo ....more amazing then the one at trenton...adam really drew it out...beautiful.....my fav song of the night was H....at the end where he sings I don't mind maynard stopped and the crowd roared "I don't mind I don't mind I don't minnnnnnd" then the song began for real with maynard moving in a circle screaming louder and louder then he cried out "I DON'T MIIIIIINNNND" it was a great moment it sounded so great. Maynard was a little more crowd friendly, asking us to scream like he did in trenton "I still don't believe you NYC" but then told us its easy to get caught in the BS of everyday life and forget why they do this and thanks for reminding them ...and went right into patient? then after that he said but their is another way to look at the industry we work in... right into.AENEMA!! then some down time maynard staring down the crowd...and they played disposition reflection and triad....just simply amazing three songs that are unique but flow together as one so easily...I almost forgot they thanked alex grey and shined a spotlight on him...then we all thanked him for his amazing work on the art for the stage set and the album, my brother even went down to meet alex after the show he's a big fan of alex grey. The sets were amazing...I wont explain them...someone else will or you can just see them for yourself...SO AMAAZING tho...thx again alex grey a real artistic genius? they ended it with lateralus which is just an amazing song live....it really has a nice end feel...possilby mic problems? or stage problesm...? Maynard didn't do any real spinning on his moving stage...? I dunno I do know he threw the mic at the ground pretty hard hehe...but I loved the show thx tool....they hugged and threw the usualy assortment of goodies...I wish I had my mitts on...I was too far tho...o well better luck next time ......

This was the most I've seen Maynard move to the songs in a long time. He was really getting into it. Justin also was really getting into it. Adam just stood there, and Danny was Danny. All I've gotta say was the night couldnt have gone any better this was by far the best concert I've ever been to even comparable to the Pink Floyd show in 94' in East Ruthorford. My friend had won tickets off the local radio station so he decided to take me we wound up with front row and center seats which I couldnt believe to begin with, the last time I saw TOOL was in '97 at lollapalooza. I could finally watch them without scorching heat and stupid jock gorillas bouncing around me. I dont quite remember the setlist but they covered a Ramones song Im not a Ramones fan so I dont know exactly what song it was also they did an extended version of stinkfist which had me in awe the animations on the double screens were nuts very inspiring to me. Maynard came out in painted in neon of the eyes and artwork from the lateralus album with a giant eye on his back and head the rest were flames on his extremities Adam had a little bit of a tech problem in the begining which made Danny play around for a little while on the drums till he was ready and when Danny plays those drums he doesnt fuck around he was baaaaaadass on the drums, he went nuts I hadn't felt such energy like that in a long time the show was mindblowing if you have any chance to go ...GO! it doesnt get any better then that, towards the end when they played lateralus Alex Grays artwork slid down fron the ceiling one after another showing almost the same artwork in the laterlus album starting with a skeleton, muscle, nerves, the last 3 are hard to describe since it became more of a type of energy within the body rather then the body itself after the last song the guys took a bow hugged each other and ended but it was a very incredible evening for me I hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as I did Inspired TOOL fan

This was this reviewer's 2nd Tool show

Hey all, Herewith my review for the Radio City Music Hall show: I won't bother posting a set list since I'm sure others have already done so. This is just a run-down of how my experience went, from start to finish (more or less)... First the drama: I scored tickets for my brother and his friend for this show -- birthday gifts -- thanks to toolshed.down's ticket listings. :-) Another tool fan from that list sent me tix that were right in front of my brother's...and someone in my building intercepted them, so I and my halfside were stuck. :-( (Thanks anyway, Jeff.) Still, fortunately, I managed to obtain 2nd Mezz tix *right* before the doors opened, so we got in anyway, for which I am eternally grateful. :-D Next, the show: Gods, how do I even *begin* to describe it? The visuals were positively entrancing. Adam Jones and Alex Grey are such supremely talented visual artists (IMHO) that... Some things beggar likeness. I could simply say that they showed some of the same film clips from the last tour; that they showed the Parabola video (minus the Parabol intro, tho' they played that part musically); that the stage backdrop was a collage of multilayered drop-screens with delicious, mind-stretching artwork derived from the same source as the acetate booklet included in the "Lateralus" CD; that the glitter falling from the ceiling (during which song, I forget) was a lovely touch, as were the zygote-like balls hanging behind the band that are also found in the "Parabola" video; the seven-pointed star hanging dead-center in the midst of it all... I could say that although Maynard was indeed painted all over and wearing Speedos, it served to blend him into the shadows and thus redirect one's attention onto the other band members and the artwork, which was by contrast extremely eye- grabbing... I could go on and on, without ever being able to really get the sheer impact of it all across in words. As the cliche goes, you had to be there. Then the sound, my Gods, the SOUND! (Well, this IS Radio City Music Hall we're talking about here!) Okay, I could have wished for Maynard's mike to have been amped up a little bit more...then again, he's been singing 40 or so shows without a break to speak of, so that was probably just his vocal cords sounding a tad worn out. Still, he pulled it off in spite of that. Go Maynard! (And thank you for putting so much effort into every show!) The guys were right on point for most of the show; Adam sounded a bit tired at the beginning, Maynard dyslexed the lyrics a bit, but it really didn't matter very much. The Ramones song that they dedicated to the memory of "Joey and D" was fabulous (wish I could remember the name of it!). Also, although I'd actually have liked to have heard Tomahawk open, they in fact played Irving Plaza that night, so we had about 2-1/2 hours of pure Tool -- straight, no chaser! (Well, only the two session guys who helped out during "Triad".) My favorite song? Probably "Stinkfist", but truthfully, it was all fantastic! "Parabol/Parabola" and "Lateralus" were also particularly moving. My only complaints about the show had absolutely nothing to do with Tool, but rather the audience. There was a) a couple in front of us smoking weed and the smoke was getting into my nose. Personally, I hate weed. If others are going to smoke up, fine, it's their lives; just don't do it around me. They did attempt to blow the smoke away from us, but it wasn't quite enough. Then b) a fellow standing next to me lit a cigarette and was puffing away, even though there is NO smoking in RCMH. He traded places with his girlfriend so I wouldn't breath it (I'm very allergic to it). Finally c) two inebriated idiots three rows behind us decided to start fighting during "AEnima," ironically. Everyone around us was singing along (we all did that through most of the show -- Maynard seemed to get a kick out of it), "I sure could use a vacation from this bullshit, three-ring circus sideshow..." which seemed to chill out the combatants enough to get them to shake hands. How's that for the power of music to soothe the savage beast? :-) All in all, it was an extremely powerful, intense, beautiful, thought-provoking, unnerving, thrilling, arousing ride, with four of the most honest, talented and engaging people I have ever had the great good fortune to encounter. (Yes, Maynard, we did in fact go home and have sex -- the next morning.) ;-P What a lot of words. Words aren't enough. Go see them, for they are a mystery: A mystery cannot be explained; it must be experienced. And, once it's experienced, there is no longer any need to have it explained. You know it for yourself. Peace, --PAS

Hey, this was even better than the oct. 1st show they played last year at madison square garden. i was sitting about ten or fifteen sets from the stage, and was it loud baby. there was two video screens hanging on each side of the stage and that was it. of course they were playing a soothing techno cd while they set up everything. then finally it went dark and you could see the band taking their places. maynard was wearing a speedo as usual and he was painted like the man on the front cover of the new album. danney was wearing a jersy and adam was wearing normal street clothes. justin had long curley hair and he looked like he was from the led zepplin era. anyway they played that buddah chant and danney used his new drum equipment along with it. then they finally opened with sober. it was flawless. it also seemed that adam was having technical dificulty with his effects as he was playing with during the show but it didn't seem to affect his sound at all too me at least. next they played a ramones cover which was commandos and it was fucking awsome, totally unexpecting. then they played the grudge and as soon as the hard part kicked in in the intro the backdrop fell and there was a screen with the lateralus art. then they played the extended version of stinkfist wich was very very good and then they played aenima and it was flawless as well, justin went insane at the end of the song as jumped every where and you could tell he was having fun on this song. maynard was awsome when he moved around like a lizard or alien or something very cool. they also played h and that was cool because at the part when maynard says i dont mind ibefore the solo he slowly started running in circles singing i don't, i don't, and the finally i don't mind. they also played parabol and parabola ( flawlessly) and then they stopped to take a break on stage and danney played his drum machine and on the video screens the was a weird looking grey man and his face would move in and out slowly then very fast with drums and then his face exploded revealing a skull which moved up and down in his head fast and slow with the drums. then they played schism and then disposition and then reflection and then triad which was very good and then finally lateralus and that rocked. at the end maynard told every body that he hoped that they would go home inspired and also very horny. and then they all came out and hugged and that was it. very good show wish it never ended. (if anybody knows what those techno songs before the show where please email me at Nerhal@aol.com thanks)

I cannot believe how amazing Tool really is. After seeing them twice at MSG back in october and then in Trenton on monday (the 12th) i didnt think that a live show could get any better but it did. There was such an energy coming from the crowd and the stage and you could just tell that everyone was in awe, just like at every other show. From the second they took the stage to the second they left and even after that I was blown away. They're visual effects are original and amazing, like nothing I've ever seen. I dont know how to describe the feelings I had during and after this show. I was emotionaly moved and I could tell that my boyfriend was as well. I was very happy when they played H. and of course Lateralis which is my favorite song off that album because I feel that it describes how music can make you feel and every time I hear that song I feel inspired. Every song they played was done perfectly and I must say that Maynard looked so good in that paint he had all over him. I cant say which of they're shows has been the best but I must say that this is the one I enjoyed the most, possibly because I had really great seats and Radio City is also a comfortable place. I also saw them last night at Continental Airlines Arena which I'm about to go review now. All I have to say is Thankyou a million times to Tool. I could go on and on they are so AMAZING and I'm not just saying this because they're my favorite band. If you have not yet had the chance to go see them by all means see them as soon as possible you will definetly be amazed.

I had to go through a ticket broker last minute to get a ticket for this show. Since it was dubbed "an evening with tool, I thought it was going to be an extended departure from the current tour and setlist. I ended up with 6th row center orchestra seat (paid out the ass for it). While waiting online to get in my friend saw Alex Grey enter the stage door with a big canvas bag. This was obviously a bag full of the make up that Maynard wore that night. Yes, Alex Grey did in fact paint Maynard head to toe in day glo Lateralus design tonight. I've never seen him look more amazing. This alone was worth the price of admission. The set itself was very predictable...apart from the Ramones song. Adam Jones and Maynard both seemed to be having technical problems throughout the show as well, constantly trying to communicate with the techs (only someone sitting close really noticed this.) Danny Carrey stole the show. He is by far the most incredible drummer on this planet. Overall, a great show. But I don't think it was their best that I've seen. As a matter of fact, I think thursday at the continental was far more inspired...

Sober Ramones Cover The Grudge (-)Ions Stinkfist (extended) H. Schism (extended) Parabol Parabola Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Aenima Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus The concert was utterly amazing. In such a small setting it was louder and definitely more intimate. Maynard fashioned a speedo and luminous body paint all night. He defiantly sang the Grudge and it was the highlight for me when he breaks into his patented dancing style. The scream during Grudge is mind altering. Particularly, when the Patient heavy part kicks in and Parabola. After the Patient Maynard commented that was the positive way of looking at his industry and then said then theres the fun way and began into Aenima, the best known song by the audience. Reflection and Triad are two very underrated songs and Danny Carey was mind boggling during the whole show, Triad was his opportunity to conquer everything and he did. Adam was quite stagnant throughout the night, Justin occassionally started banging pretty hard. The set, lighting, colors and artwork were amazing - can't wait to go again. I left inspired. Thank you TOOL - see you soon.

new york, new york.....always a fine place to see a fine tool show. i'm sure you all already know the setlist. no complaints here. i had hoped for an extra song, which i got but i really wasnt expecting the ramones! i'm not a huge ramones fan but i thought that it very respectful and respectable like it or not, so kudos to you tool! i went to 3 other shows on this leg (baltimore, trenton, and rutheford) but now having seen them all i can positively say new york was again the best. the venue was beautiful and the show looked amazing from just about anywhere. sooooo grateful for H.! reflection was incredible. you can really tell how much stronger the band is now than fron last year. love the quiet stop when the moon tells its secret. and danny really shines in this song. his present day performance is incredible and more colorful than any before. if you still can, get your tickets before you miss it! triad was scathing! they were again joined by danny's drum tech who looks like rivers cuomo. i'd like to issue another congrats to "rivers cuomo" for another amazing version of triad. for my money i'll take him over shooter mcgavin from tomahawk any day. great job! well another run with tool comes to a close.........see you all next leg(hopefully!) peace....andy rivera

Right when i sat down in my seat the begining of Sober blasted threw the awsome sound system in the Radio City Music Hall. My seat was the worst one in the house but i didn't give a shit cause every seat was good in that place. Radio City was the perfect place for TOOL to play this year. The backdrop behind the band was amazing. Alex Gray (the brains behind the artwork) was present at the show. This show was an honer to be a part of. The new jersey show was also great, but nothing compares to the NYC show.

Great show. Absolutely fabulous. I flew in from OH to see the show, and it was worth every penny--including the exorbitantly priced hotel. I'm going to 2 more shows this tour (and probably 1 or 2 more on the fall tour), and I expect great things from those as well. I have nothing more to add that hasn't already been said, except this: Did anyone else notice that Ian Robinson from MTV2 was at the show? Also, it was absolutely amazing that Maynard's platform displayed the same images that were on the 2 video screens which flanked the stage. The stage is so much more visually stimulating than it was in 2001. Thank you Tool, and "thank you Alex."

This was this reviewer's 3rd Tool show

I think I accidentally posted a blank post -- sorry guys! Anyway, Radio City was my 3rd Tool experience, then I just saw them at the Meadowlands in NJ last night making it my 4th. But something about the Radio City show got to me more than last night, probably the intimacy of the place, and the perfect acoustics that venue has, and also because Tool played w/o an opening band like at Hammerstein in 2001. Each experience seeing Tool just seems to be different and inspiring everytime. I can't control myself, I just let the music move me and I don't care who sees what it does to me. As an artist they've inspired me with so much of my work, and just like Tool, I hope to evolve and develop into something more through the years. I'd like to thank the band for giving me whatever it is they give to so many other people. Anyway, I'd like to describe the Radio City show, first of all security was very tight, (which the security wasn't tight at all last week when Yes played...I wonder why...) Anyway, I went there alone, which probably made it better, I wasn't distracted by my friends talking or anything so that was a plus. But I met some very nice people who borrowed my binoculars (shut up I'm 5'1"), people offered me pot and beer which was quite generous. I didn't take the beer, but the gesture was greatly appreciated :) Also, another person next to me asked me to "share his experience" and hold his hand and dance, but, that was a little to odd for me, but I love the...brotherhood...I guess...that music brings out in people. When they played "H" I thought I was going to cry, it was so intense, everything about Tool is intense and I think that's why I'm a fanatic. I think I'd explode if I heard them play "Third eye", though, I'd love it very very much (no, that's not a hint at all...hehe I'm just kidding) The only bad part about the show was the people who were bitching that there wasn't an encore. They played for 2 1/2 hours straight, don't they have any idea how hard it is to play that long? Without a break no less? Oh well...I was glad to hear Maynard give Alex Grey credit for the artwork (coincidentally, last year in art class we studied anatomy and the teacher used Alex Grey as an example, which I got all excited about) because people need to know about the artist and also to learn about sacred geometry, which was very prominent in the projections at the show. People should just read up on sacred geometry, it's so interesting, and it's lots of fun to use in artwork :) It seems that I'm rambling and I never can find the words to express how much I appreciate hearing Tool live, so...thanks to the band for kicking so much ass...and sorry for the rash understatement, but there isn't any other way to describe Tool. And to anyone that hasn't seen Tool, you're missing out on an awesome, spiritual experience that you should definitely have in your life. Thanks again :)

This was the most amazing show I have ever seen!!! We had great seats, 1st row mezzanine in one of the center sections. Being a vertically challenged person, I've barely seen the shows I've been too...it was sooooo wonderful to actually have a clear view of everything. Maynard was all painted again, just like in Baltimore, but I think he had more of the reflective paint on tonight. It was much brighter than the other night. I think all 4 members were very focused and pretty much just "on"...the energy was totally incredible. What else is there to say? Again, THANK YOU TOOL

well, so much to say but there are no words that can do justice to this experience. i live in NYC, and i am weary of the typical NYC audience; mtv-heads, 14 year olds who wear long sleve shirts underneath t-shirts and sport either too much hair or the right amount with manic panic dye, and other sheep-like faces. yes, there were a fair share of these people there inside, but the majority were true "fans". by "fans" i mean those who "get" tool's music and message. to these people, i send my love; i felt it too, amazing, wasn't it. i was sitting in row ww next to my girl and a quiet kid who introduced himself as scott. (hi scott). the show was amazing, end of story. tears welled up several times in my girl's and my own eyes as maynard, powered by his friends, talked and pleaded to us. thank you adam, justin, danny, and maynard. i understood what you said. i was moved, i was touched in a deep place that hadn't been explored in a long time. thank you for sharing that moment with me and all the other real fans here in NYC.

Never in my life have I been so overcome by such visual and aural stimulation. TOOL, without a doubt, are to my generation, what Pink Floyd was to the 60's and early 70's. The setlist was amazing, which began with 'Sober', and included a 20 minute intermission that placed me into state of bemusement, somewhat comparable to a drunken daydream. The venue at Radio City provided a great view, even though my seat was not terrific.. TOOL sounded so tight, and flowed perfectly into each song. This was an amazing show, TOOL are the masters of live hevy metal, and this was their magnum opus. Bravo.

Again, TOOL's performance was better than the last. The NYC audience played a vital role I believe. The last show I saw was in South Carolina, and there is no comparison. Radio City is the atmosphere Tool is meant to play in. The monologue Maynard gave before "The Patient" was my favorite ("you're tired of putting up with your bitter day bullshit" (or something to that magnitude)). I was elated to finally hear them play 'H' at a show which I attended. AND TO THE GUY WHO SOLD ME THE TICKET OUTSIDE RADIO CITY< THANK YOU. He sold it to me without trying to make money for himself. No one in the Southeastern region would have done that. Maynard spoke much more than expected, and seemed to be in a semi-jovial mood. Tool's shows aren't just shows, they are an EXPERIENCE in which I wouldnt trade for anything.

This was this reviewer's 4th Tool show

My TOOL concert experience was more than the show. I am posting late so if you just want the concert info go to the forth paragraph following this one or be Patient. On August 11 I went to see Siouxie and the Banshees at the Hollywood Palladium. Siouxie still knows how to please the crowd and the show was good. After the show I went home to pack for the approaching week that is now behind me. At 3:30 am on August 12 I drove to Phoenix and had breakfast with my friend Nikki who took me to the airport. I flew to New York via Dallas and arrived Monday night feeling good because I basically slept the whole way. Shared a cab with a married cool lady, wondered around Greenwich Village for a couple hours, and then got to my hotel which was two blocks from radio city - a place called the radio city apartments. Tuesday I awoke, called some local friends whom I previously could not reach, and left messages. New York was freaking hot and humid but I put on my black boots, black jeans, and a TOOL tee and went out to explore. The first thing I did was walk over to Radio City and I noticed that the equipment for the show was being delivered to the stage for setup. I decided to take a tour of radio city which was $17.00. I took the tour with a family visiting from Mexico City and since the tour was all English and they only spoke Spanish I attempted translation. The tour was cool because Radio City has a great history and I got to see the crew setting up the stage. After the tour I walked over to where they were delivering the equipment and a bunch of the crew were just standing around. I asked them if they were finished setting up and they said Radio City was union and since they were not, they were allowed to do the set up! About twenty of the Radio City Rockettes also were hanging out in the area waiting for the outcome of a contract negotiation. I decided to hang out and chat with the some of the road crew. One cool guy was Kevin who has something to do with the lighting. He told me that TOOL would be playing the standard tour package. He also told me that TOOL would be restarting the fall tour in Washington after a three week break. TOOL will be playing for about two months doing about another forty shows of the same basic show. If you have seen it you know it is amazing. If you have not and you still have the chance - go see it - it is worth you money. Anyway, I started getting hungry, got some lunch, and then walked around all afternoon just waiting for someone to come up and ask me about the TOOL so I could give them a ticket. No one did! I had orchestra tickets OO 401 and 402 perfect center stage twelve rows back! On my way back to my hotel room to shower and change for the show I suddenly looked up to cross the street when I saw a girl, wearing flats, dressed in black, no nipple rings and no tattoos and she was reading - the village voice. As I crossed the street Suzanne looked up at me and smiled. I walked over to her and asked her if she was going to the show. She said she needed a ticket. I said here it is. She freaked - in a good way. Then I noticed she had this really big backpack and I told her that I did not think she could get it into the show. I asked her if she would feel comfortable leaving it in my hotel room and she said sure. We went to my hotel room, I took a shower, she dropped off the bag, and we walked to Radio City, and we waited in an unfreaking believable line to get in! As soon as we got in I heard the music that preceeds TOOL taking the stage and I knew that TOOL was going to take the stage any minute. We went straight to our seats. Funny enough the two seats in front of us never got taken so though everyone was standing and Suzanne was about 5'2" we had completely unobstructed views the whole show. Whatever idiot did not come really missed out. The show was great. The boys took the stage, everyone in the orchestra stood, and they opened with Sober. Everyone stood in the orchestra for the whole show! You must know by now that TOOL covered the Ramones song Commando which was dedicated to Joey and Dee Dee and has a line about Open Your Eyes. It was a surreal moment and since I was thinking about my recently departed brother-in-law Kirk it was a perfect and touching moment. The sound at Radio City was stunning. Justin was going off all night. I have seen the show three previous times on this tour and I mean he was in another dimension. In the beginning of the show there were some technical glitches with something regarding Adam's guitar stuff and a tech had to come out and play with the wires etc. four or five times that really threw disrupted the continuity of the show. Also, Maynard had to ask multiple times for increased volume. He was pointing upward and it seemed he was getting a bit pissed when the techies did not respond fast enough. If you skipped the paragraphs go back and read about the union - you missed something. Maynard was wearing the black speedo and his whole body was painted with the Lateralus design - no doubt by Alex Grey who was sitting one row behind me and ten seats to my left. The Alex Grey universal unconsciousness backdrop was not well lit which slightly detracted from the unraveling of what I call the evolutionary advancement of man from structure to spirit. Even with the above noted glitches the show was amazing and I am so happy that I drove from LA to Phoenix to catch a plane to New York to experience the show. I totally felt Kirk looking down on me during Reflection. Triad really rocked again but my favorite song of the night suprisingly was The Patient! They all went crazy extended. H. and Lateralus are two of my favorite songs and of course they also were great as are all TOOL songs. After the show Suzanne and I went for a beer at an Irish pub on 7th Avenue. We discussed the TOOL show and spirituality and our lives. I am so glad she came to the show because she really enjoyed herself. Since she had a call back the next day we went back to my hotel room to get her backpack and then I walked her to the subway and away she went. On August 14 I went to central park and read with my feet in the grass. In the evening I finally met up with my friend Denice who had a date to see Oasis the night of the TOOL show. Other shows the same night included Slayer with Soulfly, Kid Rock and Aerosmith, and I heard even Tomahawk were were playing somehwhere. Denice hung out with me until about 4:00 am talking and then I had to leave for the airport for my 6:00 am flight back to Phoenix. I was sitting in my seat on the plane thinking about the great getaway and about to pass out when Emmanuelle sat next to me. Emmanuelle is an inspirational woman and we connected. Though I had slept two hours in three days, Emmanuelle and I talked the whole flight and we exchanged information to stay connected. She lives in New York and I will be returning in two weeks. Embrace whatever may come. We may just go where no one's been. Sprial out. Keep going, going ...

Great show. Problem with Tool is that the shows sell out way too fast. Fortunately, I got great seats. Everyone summed up the whole show just about. I just want to give a little TIP to those of you who thought Tomahawk was playing. Anytime it's "An Evening With..." show 99% of the time the band will be alone.

I wish i could have posted my review right after the show so that the experience is still fresh...but even still i am still amazed at what i have had the priveledge to attend....I almost didnt make it to the show....it was a hellish day the trip from philly to nyc was at best down right horrible but i knew it would pay off...if i were on my deathbed they would have to carry me to see tool hehe....anywya i finally get to r.c.m.h and everything from the day just melted away...i was whisked off to tool land!...just when i think its impossible for tool to get any better live...THEY DO!....maynard was unusually chatty which was good...ive missed hearing his smart ass comments! and justin was off in his own world rocking out during the triad jam session (my favorite part of the show)...and alex grey did an AMAZING job on maynard and his artwork really brought the show to an all new visual level...even tho tool has always been great they way they have evolved is just incredible....i have been to a few tool shows and this one is by far my favorite....thank you danny justin adam and maynard for the best show of my life! SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE....

All i can say is...fucking unreal. Incredible. I can die happy now. It was the best night of my life...no exceptions. So much energy, so much emotion. The crowd was awesome too, singing along every word with Maynard and moving to the collossal sounds of TOOL. I could'nt hear myself. So many great moments...like during Sober when Maynard sung "why can't we ALL be sober?"...it felt like it was just for us...i was on a high the whole night, and i'm feeling it again just thinking about it. I could swear that Justin looked and pointed right at me just before the group hug at the end! Parabol/a was great, the grudge was excellent(!) Danny is fucking unreal on his drumset...there is no one better in the world. Just watching him play is an experience in and of itself. Stinkfist and H were nice treats, but i realllllly wanted to hear 46 + 2. Lots of extended versions...lots of between song rumblings and such. (-) Ions was cool! The visuals were just too sweet, and the artwork by Alex Grey was phenomenal. I wish i was closer so i could have seen Maynard's paintjob. Oh well...Radio City is a great venue, and what a show! There's so much else i want to say, but I'm just too tired. To sum it all up: I love TOOL...I can't wait to see them again.
