This was this reviewer's 9 Tool show

TOMAHAWK was great, much to the chagrin of anxious TOOL fans. Mike Patton was characteristically funny and on point with his vocals. "101 North", a new track and a cover (not sure of the title) which closed the show were the highlights. This was an average TOOL show. Maynard blew his voice out halfway through Parabola, slammed down the mic, and stormed off stage. Adam, Danny, and Justin forged on finishing the song in stellar fashion with the barely audible vocals of 10,000 fans singing the remainder of the lyrics. Certainly everyone's is entitled to a "bad day at the office." It's just hard to see it happen to someone when it will affect others. It was easy to sense that others were also cheering him on hoping to raise his spirits. For the rest of show Maynard did his best to do the songs justiice, but it was obvious he was struggling. It was tough to watch at times, like he was a baseball player swinging at every pitch just to get back to the bench. Triad saved the show from a total loss, and it seemed Mynard saved something for Lateralus. I hope all is well with Maynard, and that this is not a lingering problem. Enjoy the rest of tour..... Sober The Grudge Stinkfist H. Parabol Parabola Aenema ______ Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus

Tomahawk was not as bad as I had feared, and certainly better than Fantomas was last year, but I still had no reservations about going for a beer during their set. Tool... Wow. Setlist has already been posted of course, so I'm not going to repeat it. AEnima was the highlight for me (and many others apparently, judging from the crowd's response to the opening "Hey, hey"). I was wondering what happened to MJK during Parabola, though? He looked pissed off after he stopped singing. Danny was, as usual, unbelievable. Justin and Adam played their asses off, but would it kill them (Adam especially) to move just a little? MJK was dressed the same as at previous shows on the tour (starts with the black leathers, winds up in the black speedo, and a black stripe down his face). Are we ever going to see the bra/panties/wigs again? Not too chatty tonight, until Triad was over (which was AWESOME!, by the way), and he thanked Mike and ??? from Tomahawk for playing and that "he was glad they were back on the the tour healthy. They just had surgery. Mike had 3 testicles and ??? had only one, so Mike donated one of his to ???, so now they both have a pair". Also he thanked us for sharing this moment with them, and that they hoped to share another one. See you soon" (Fall tour stop maybe??) Also "Good night". After Lateralus, the obligatory group hug and throwing of the artifacts. Damn - something bounced off my seat and landed on the floor, but I couldn't see what it was. I know it's been said by other reviewers, but if you can get your hands on tickets - SEE THEM! (Surprisingly, there were MANY empty seats in the arena tonight!)

Okay. set list has been posted, and it's right, so i'm not going to rehash it. Tomohawk: Eh...they _do_ suck, but. I commend them for trying. and you could tell, they really were. What was up with the two guys in the "Sumo" suits? Funny, but...confusing. The Crowd: AWFUL. I say this because i sat behind a group of people who knew NOTHING about tool but Sober and Schism, and found it really funny to pour beer on people. I sat infront of a gorup of others who knew even less about tool, and kept talking about" Put some parts on!" to Maynard, and yelled at him when he stormed off (see below). I wanted to turn around and sock them one in the face...but...yeah. Tool Themselves: AWESOME. just AWESOME. I would trade my hearing a thousand times over to see them again. Poor Maynard tossed his voice out in Parabola, which pissed him off. The real Tool fans in the crowd sang his part as he sat there, trying to recover. I think i speak for all of us in hoping that he's okay. Maynard, if you read this, take care man. Following that, AEnima was...less than spectacular. I could tell that he was suffering, but it actualyl made the "Learn to Swim" all the more...powerful. Lateralis at the end was powerful and tied together all of the energy that the band had given us that whole night. The group hug at the end was all the more poignant knowing how much Maynard must have been pained at that point. Video: Incredible. I recognized some from the Music Videos, but the new artwork (What was the guy's name?) and the old stuff by Danny meshed toegether perfectly. The "simple" Orobourus (Snake consuming itself) during H was so...simple, yet wonderful. Everything worked perfectly with the songs. Tool "concert" is a misnomer. It's an experience for all six senses.

Woa woa woa just an incredible experience, overall. Tomahawk kinda sucked in that hey at least it's original, even though i can't stand it way. Tool was just amazing, MJK is the man period, even after throwing his voice out half way through Parabola, he let the fans finish that for him, he came back and gave it his best shot for the rest of the concert and you could barely even notice his struggling. Just goes to show how much he cares about his craft and his fans. Best was the post-intermission stuff, just really trippy and rocking and epic, the drumming was thouroughly nuts. Only complaint was the crowd, seemed to be filled with tough guy posers who didn't really care about the music, just getting drunk, and they were all pissed that they couldn't mosh. The created this whole negative energy atmosphere that really detracted from the experience. Despite that the concert was great, i think i had the chills for the whole time. Truly moving experience.

Incredible show. I enjoyed Boston a little more, but tonight was still great. I don't know why they didn't play The Patient, but I wasnt too disappointed. We did get H tonight and Aenima was incredible as usual. At one point, someone managed to climb onto the stage and then dived head first into the crowd, I thought that was pretty funny. The visuals are incredible at these shows, you cant understand until you see it, especially during reflection when the sacred mirrors come down. Alex grey is an amazing artist. Thank you Tool for another unbeleivable performance, and I'll see you tommorow night in Manchester.

I did not have tickets until 3 O'clock today...I went to the DD Center box office and bought some crappy seats in section 230 HOWEVER, security was so laxed that my husband and I were able to move to section 112 3rd row which is a side view but we could see everything really well. The Setlist as I remember it... ~ Sober ~ The Grudge ~ Stinkfist ~ H. ~ Schism ~ Parabol ~ Parabola ~ Aenema ~ Intermission ~ ~ Disposition ~ Reflection ~ Triad ~ Lateralus Maynard's microphone broke during Parabola and he through it down, walked off stage, returned with new mic, then he sat with new mic in squatted position and did not finish the song. Justin played on the ground a few times too, I'm not sure if he was tired or if it was just a special pedal thing. Danny as usual was insane on the drums banging away like a madman. Adam was pumping out the amazing music as usual. All in all it was a tremendous show. We did not get to hear The Patient, however I am thankful and happy to have just seen them no matter where I was in the venue. We are there to experience the music live and see the band. Thanks for a wonderful night...Adam, Danny, Justin & Maynard.

Great show tonight, although not quite as amazing as Boston last night. I was pretty close on the floor and it definitely added to the experience. Tomahawk was even better tonight, even though they didn't play Laredo. Tool sounded great as usual and H. was a treat. I know that some people were pissed off at what Maynard did during Parabola, but I felt really bad because I know that he was very frustrated and he just wanted to give us the best show possible. I hope his voice gets better so Tool can dazzle the rest of their audiences during the remainder of the tour.

I would have to say that that was the most amazing tool concert i have ever been too. The set list was great, i had a good spot on the floor up front. Tomahawk- They were pretty good, i enjoyed some of there songs especially 101 north- good song. Now when all the lights went out it was just a great experience. To the start of sober, very amazing everything i expected plus more. The crowd was fine were i was located . Maynard seemed to loos it during parabola yikes... looked pretty pissed slammed the mic to the ground. The drumming during triad was very very nice unexplainable. Stinkfist ROCKED!!!!!! Haha some guy managed to get up onto the stage, slipped on the ground as he got up and ran behind adam and nose dived into the cowd, wonder what happened to him. All and All if u dont have tickets go there and buy them u dont want to miss this tour, Art work and everything else is SO INCREDIBLE!!

I'm fairly certain this is it: Sober The Grudge Stinkfist H. Schism Parabol Parabola Ænema Dispostion Reflection Triad Lateralus ...seems to be pretty much the same as the rest of the tour, except H. was played instead of 46 & 2... Overall, great show- i dont know if this is part of the show or not, but Maynard definitly stopped singing halfway through Parabola and walked offstage. And he inserted the Elvis lyrics in Stinkfist, and i seemed to be the only one who caught on. I was dissapointed by only one song from Undertow and only a few from Ænima,. but that was expected.... ya know, aside from Ticks and Leeches and The Patient (which was on the setlist, i caught a glimpse of the light techs copy) they played all of Lateralus. It was bitchin, tho, i had a great time. Trippiest projections on the screens i have ever seen. Oh, the jam on Triad with Mike Patton and the drummer from Tomahawk was wicked cool, too. All of Adam's solos were very much on, and Justin played his bass like a mofo. Justin, of course, supplied the backbeat wonderfully. Tool rocks. I will see them again without hesitation.

Well I went to TooL again after seeing them in Boston last night. Again, it was more than amazing. I enjoyed last night more, but thats with different things considered. Last night was my very first Tool concert, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. Anything it's second time around, meaning this setlist, backdrops, etc, isnt as good as the first time. The crowd tonight definately sucked and you can tell it reflected on Maynard. He really didn't say anything at all. I'm sure this also had something to do with the mood he was in. He just looked really pissed off the whole night, not moving around as much as he did last night. I feel really bad for him. Maynard: you did a kickass job tonight, it was hardly noticable if you hurtin. Tonight I definately payed more attention to the visual aspects of the show, not focusing as much on the band itself. I really loved the screens with the videos on em. I realized how trippy they all were tonight. The floating atoms were great too. The posters of the skeletons and the seven pointed star were cool too. Other than that, the later part of the show still still made my night. Disposition, Reflection and Triad sounded just as good if not better than last night and singing along to Lateralus again definately made my year. My friend even loved the show and she hardly even knows any of their songs. (dont get me wrong, she wasnt there just to get drunk and she wasnt trying to be a poser.) Another amazing night by the quartet. Keep on rockin guys.

Well, i still can't hear that much, the band was awsome. THE DRUMS WERE KICKASS!!!! Hope your voice is ok MJK. P.S. Dude in seat KK 15-16 in 122, in the No Fear t-shirt. oh my....this show was fucking amazing. Tomahawk was much better than I heard, I think a lot of Tool fans are just arrogant. They were not wonderful, but I did enjoy some stuff. Waiting for Tool was just like the way up on a rollercoaster and when they came on, it was the first drop. the set list (or close to it)- Sober The Grudge (-) Ions Stinkfist H. Parabol Parabola (about half way through, Maynard did one of the following: 1. Forget/Mess up a line or 2. have his microphone crap out. After that he chucked the microphone, and got off stage. When he came back, he just kneeled the rest of the song.) Ænema Eon Blue Apocalypse (Intermission) Disposition Reflection Triad Lateralus and amazing show, if you can, check it our near you.

Wow, 2nd Tool concert in two days, and it was amazing. Different from Boston, but good just as well. The new stage show is mind-blowing (check out the backdrop),, and Alex Grey's artwork was...transcendant :D. They played H!!!! It's too bad Maynard's voice cracked during H and Parabola (I'm glad I got to hear the whole thing in Boston). Maynard had sort of a latex black strip on his head, looked cool. He also got down to his Speedo. Oh, one more thing, less Tomahawk is good Tomahawk :P.

Tool was great despite Maynard's problems during parabola. I found that the seating on the floor was a bad idea. Usually the people in the front really want to be there - the true fans will put up with being squeezed against the front just to be closer to the band. I found myself sitting next to morons that didn't deserve the seats they had. During lateralus a fight broke out in my section (the front left if facing the stage). I could see how frustrated MJK was with it because he was staring at it for a while, then as he turned away he put up his middle finger with his mic hand. Just wanted to see if anyone else caught that.

Contrary to what some people wrote above - tonight in Rhode Island Tool was in the middle of Parabola when Maynard botched the lyrics. Clearly frustrated with himself he whipped the mic down on the stage then walked off into the wings as the band continued to play. He returned a minute later sipping from a bottle of water. He crouched on his riser with his head hung (as though he were ashamed of himself) while the band completed the song with no singing. It was strange to see, but I liked it. It reminded me of something I find easy to forget - my favorite band (and to a certain extent my hero’s) is human. Great show reguardless… 2 Tool shows down, 2 to go. Manchester, NH Tomorrow :)

Um unlike most reviews ive been reading I sat in a section amongst many a true tool fan....no real fake people to thing of....everyone near me new every word to every song not just the Two that some of you are mentioning.....um this was my 3rd show of this tour and the first time I got to see them do H. wich was most definetly the highlight for me. Im sure yove read allready that MJK didnt do to well with Parabola tonight, wich is kool with me I thought it was kool to here it with no vocals....most people are saying he threw his voice out, wich he did, but I dont thing he left the stage untill he missed a line or two...It sounded to me like he got a little ahead of him self, got pissed and left the stage.....that said it was still a great show, I wouldnt trade for anything see most of ya In Manchester im sure......enjoy..... Anyone on the Front - Center/Left side of the floor, got to know the Flashlite-Fettish-FuckHead Security. This 1 jackass (who thought his job was to shine his flashlight in my face the whole show) was outta control from the begining of the show....ANYWAY... so, this Same dude, who must have thought some "fan" was questioning his ability to bench a BUCK-TWENTY decided to prove it by dragging him out by the neck in a 1/2-NELSON (he musta been a backup wrestler in High School)!...just as this happened maynard threw his mic down to the floor, & stomped off....MAYBE JUST COINCIDENCE, but it sure seemed to be what happened. maybe he threw his voice out, maybe it broke, who knows? 1 more thing......... dont take this the wrong way....but...... TOOL is a redneck band, they have been, they are, & they always WILL BE...which means REDNECK fans...so be it.... if you cannot deal,...sit back a bit, not in the front, cuz you dont know what youre gonna get, maybe a broken seat, a stage diver, a shoe in the head...try sitting in the middle of the floor...THE VIEWS BETTER, THE SOUNDS BETTER, & the crowd might be more to your liking........ TOOL was simply TOOL. I really don't know any other way to say it. This experience, my first TOOL concert, shattered all of my expectations. The band was phenomenal. Maynard was unbelievable. Danny, Justin and Adam were amazing as well. The crowd was a little off, and something happened with Maynard halfway through Parabola (who am I to judge or strike you down?). He was still the driving force and energy behind the experience, and I consider myself priviliged to have been able to see him and the band doing what they do best. The setlist has been posted by other fans, so I will refrain from putting it up again. Whole show was extremely good, with Disposition/Reflection/Triad into Lateralus the high point for me. There was a lot of positive energy in the arena. Maynard thanked the crowd for their support. and told a anecdote that was drowned out in large part, by the screaming of drunken fans. I think I may have heard something about three testicles? Only low point besides drunken fans was the kid who jumped the barricade and got on stage, totally disrupting my connection with the band. Coming out of the concert, I could definitely feel the change within myself, especially the change of perspective that deep introspection brings. Everything was easier to deal with after the concert. I will be seeing TOOL in New Haven on Tuesday, and I highly recommend the experience to anyone who has the slightest interest in Tool and an open mind. "This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment. Remember. We are eternal. All this pain is an illusion." - MJK Thank You TOOL, Maynard, Justin, Danny, Adam. Please keep doing that which you do best.

Ok i will start by saying tool is my favorite band on the planet... but that still doesn't mean they are without flaw. I saw them in shitty seats in boston and decided that it would be a great idea for me to bring my 15 year old sister to her first concert at the providence show... (so all yof you losers who say the seats on the floor are a bad idea... screw you... you think muscle bound asswipes are the only ones who deserve front row) However i gotta say this was maybe the worst tool show i have been to. But at least it was dramatic. So... tomahawk.... Mike patton is god... seriously this man is just amazing and i thank him wholeheartedly for mAking my sisters first concert not be a complete wash. He and his projects are TRULEY the most progressive thing to come out in metal since tool. So... tool... im sorry but i have to say this MJK is a dick. I know we here at TDN are all about hero worship and all.. but what kind of asshole decides he is too good for his fans,.. He fucked up and instead of apologizing or trying to make ammends (play some rarity) he sits on the stage like a whiney girl. And those who really looked at the band on stage you could clearly see that Danny was non-plussed by MJK's behavier. In fact me and my group were seriously afraid the band was not going to come back on stage after the intermission and there was gonna be a full scale riot. Also many of the "fans" in RI really need to re-evaluate their lives if taking the risk of getting hurt and maimed and thrown out of the concert is worth getting a few inches closer to tool... All of you folks who say tool is the greatest show in their lives really need to go see a band where the lead singer.... moves.. and talks with the people who paid $50 or more to see them and dumps $30 bucks on shirts with their name on it. And for a bunch of people who like to quote their hero "think for yourself Question authority" need to question the authority of their metal idol MJK...

I'd just like to say to the last guy who posted, you're not paying 50$ to see Maynard. You're not paying 50$ to see Maynard move or talk. If you are, then YOU should go see another band. You're paying 50$ to see an amazingly talented band who puts on probably the best live show amongst current rock bands. As for Maynard, I don't know why he did it. I wasn't there. All answers seem plausible. But if he did it because of the kid who got Nelsoned by the Sec Guard, then he's not being a whiney bitch, he's standing up for real Tool fans. Also, whoever said Tool is a redneck band, I really disagree. Two from midwest, and two from west, does not equal redneck. It equals Fruity Good Ol' Boys. I seriously doubt Maynard did it because of the "drunk frat boys who only know Sober and Schism" as they are commonly called here. That would b unfair to the true fans. And I seriously doubt some moron in the audience could tell how Danny was feeling at that moment.

i only read about half of the reveiws so far but i didn't see anyone post about maynards voice cracking during schism. the show in boston, stage presence wise was much better, he was very pissed off in prov. i feel bad for the guy but it was cool to hear parabol instrumental.after that jis voice wasn't at it's best but it was pretty good. the crowed really dug tomahawk which was cool. a couple people even knew who they were. one guy in front of me was even singing along. i was very pleased with this as i thought i would be the only tomahawk fan there tonight. maybe patton will come back on some headlining tours now. all in all great show. i finally got to see H. live. hope they will be back soon

Did anyone else notice that they got ripped off if they spent $30 on the "official" tour T-shirt last night (The one with the cities listed on the back)? Apparently the T is for the first leg of the tour only, and the list stops at East Rutherford, NJ. The Boston people probably had the same deal. I hate to complain, since Tool is my all-time favorite band, and practically all I listen to. BUT I would think they might want to keep an eye (the third one, maybe?) on the merchandising people and make sure they aren't screwing the fans.

Well the set lists posted are correct. It was the same set as Radio City except no "Patient". What happened to Maynard none of us can be sure...this is what I saw: in Parabola the verse that he sings right after ALIVE his voice cracked once or twice, his mic went down and he took off back stage. He did come back and crotch down though the remainder of the song....when he came back after leaving the stage Adam went right to him, the whole band was at attention, and yes even though the stadium wasn't sold out the fans took care of the rest of the lyrics for him. You know people have things that go on in their lives maby something stuck a cord, brought on some feelings...who really knows. But I can tell you before and after the Parabola incident Maynard sounded magnificent! I've been noticing at the end of Stinkfist he sings something like "I can't walk out cause I love you too much baby" reminds me of that Elvis song but you have to hear him sing it....it's breath taking! Danny, Adam and Justin all kicked ass. TOOL is truly an amazingly talented group of people! Go see these guys!! Take it from me it was worth going 9 hrs from home and taveling these crowded New England roads on 90 degree hot humid days to partake in the experience! Spiral out.....but keep it going

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

I was a little underwhelmed by my first Tool show but still grateful for my 11th row seats. I was hoping to hear a bit more of a spread of songs, maybe a couple lesser-known from Undertow, but I ain't one to scoff at Lateralus tunes. After hearing the show sold out in Boston, I was more than surprised that Providence only seemed 80% capacity, if that. And as others have said, the crowd make-up was surprising. A lot of the over-muscled, obviously-there-to- drink-overexpsneive-beer-and-sing-along-to-that-song-they heard-on-the-radio-while-reminaing-completely-motionless- to-every-song-they-don't-know type. I had a row of people like that in front of me, but luckily got seated next to a fan that was all about moving to the music as much as I was. I can't understand how people can watch Danny Carey and his Mark McGuire-sized arms going to fucking town on that insane drum set and just stand there like they're watching a lecture on the intricacies of Watching Paint Dry. Technical glitches were also disappointing. There were at least half a dozen times where the audio cut out for just a split second. Okay, is it just me, or am I completely off with my take on the Parabola incident? It seemed to me that he messed up the words. I've heard Parabola about 700 times like the rest of y'all and I was 99% sure before I read these show reviews that he messed up the words and THAT'S what led to his slamming the mike. The blowing out the voice theory is sound too. Still, all that aside, a worthwhile show and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them again if this is just an average show for them. Favorite moments: - During The Grudge, just standing there calmly during the build up to his primal scream- and we all know it's coming- then wrapping up the mike around his hand and letting loose - As someone else said, during H. when the band broke off into an instrumental before the "I don't mind" part which made it all the better when he finally let loose - Aenima. I've been wanting to see that live forever. - Jason

well i was going to post aobut boston too, but there are NO WORDS to describe boston - boston was unbelieveable...but last night's was...odd. the crowd was COMPLETELY different. it seemed people were only there for the cheap beer and to scream a lot at inappropriate times. as soon as my boyfriend and i walked in, we felt a completely different feeling...not as vulnerable and healing as boston. we missed tomahawk this time (oh damn, cuz they were soooo good. NOT) and got there just in time. having seen the boston show, dancing like a mad banshee throughout the whole thing, then getting up for a long day at work and THEN to drive to providence, i was pretty fucking tired. but it was ok because i felt i could sit down and close my eyes to relax a little more. but tool always manages to surprise. i was hoping for H. all day long, having heard 46&2 before and all i wanted was H. I could have died happy right then. so then parabol and parabola start. we notied they didn't do anothe rin betwee, like the previous night's with The Patient. everyone's been talking about this....i could swear i heard maynard fuck up his lyrics and that's why he stormed off, but then again, he didn't hit many more high notes for the rest of the night until the very end of Lateralus. Who knows, maybe he fucked up his voice, maybe he fucked up his lyrics. either way, it was ok. he seems to get VERY odwn on himself when stuff like that happens. i mean, it's obvious this music is EVERYTHING to him, it's his blood, his heart; he can't live without doing it. i was almost in tears when he walked off and then crouched down, all i wanted to do was run onto the stage and hug him. but what made the moment better was when everyone in the place started singing his parts for him and we were all cheering, and that in itself was purely euphoric. the dedication this band has is unprecedented, and can be matched or compared by no other. it's true, last night was not their best, but they give everything every time, and we still thrive for this music. it's all got a special place in our lives, and that's exactly what maynard wants for us. that's why everytime he does a show he thanks us all for sharing the moments with them and to try to heal and make something opositive out of it. becuase it's not about moshing, or how drunk you can get, or what you're wearing. it's about all of us coming together for an evening to have a conversation with these guys. and as long as we keep that up, they'll keep healing us. kristine

Tomahawk.........A+ for originality.....I am not sure of the "genius" of Mike Patton(sp?) but found the bands unique style of music entertaining at least. Unlike reviews from other shows, I did not find them offensive or hostile and actually give them major respect for being professional musicians able to be on the same bill as TOOL. When the immature/drunk idiots in crowd who were heckling them can put out a piece of music and open for TOOL (or anyone for that matter) then maybe their comments will mean something to someone!! TOOL .........Since this is only my second show, I can only compare it to the November 2001 show I saw in Hartford. Musically, except for the MJK incident, I thought it was worth every penny I spent (Floor seats, Section 2), NOT sure exactly what happend (I personally don't think ANYONE knows EXCEPT for Maynard) but thought his vocals were a little strained leading up to "the incident". I think what we have to remember is that MJK is a dedicated artist who strives for perfection at EACH performance! What he does, the way he acts, how he recovers from his personal setbacks/equipment failures is HIS business....who the hell are we to judge? We (as true fans) should be damn glad he's around at all with the neverending load of "corperate" garbage that gets labeled as "music" today! I think these guys played their butts off for us....and I (for one) appreciate their hard work and effort. Hartford show was done on a larger stage.......and the guys we on their first leg of the tour so I think they sounded a bit better there. I was very surprised to see MJK pick up a guitar and bass guitar during the show....hmmmm, now if the guy didn't care about the performance why would he do that?? Good job Maynard... FANS: Though the folks who act "the fool" never read these posts.....I don't know why I'll add this but; I agree that this show had the normal percentage of drunk, immature, "lets see if I can run past security", selfish idiots!! If a venue has floor SEATING it means if YOU have a SEAT in the floor area then (guess what?) - you sit there!! IF NOT....you DON'T! I don't know how many times THE SAME people tried to bum- rush security perosonnel in order to try to get closer to the stage....One question: Why? Do you think those of us who made sure WE had the best seats we could get our hands on wanted YOU interrupting us? I personally give security alot of credit for putting up with these people as well as they did.......I don't think the band could be classified as "rednecks" and have read they DO NOT appreciate moshing anyway (can anyone get them to personally address this issue??) I believe it goes against what the band/music is ALL about...... Great night........great music.......Looking forward to Tapeworm project.....

I can honestly say that before yesterday I never had really heard Tool before, I had heard that song Schism but thats it. A firend of mine had a extra ticket and told me to go cause it would be a great show. I love talented and intrigant musicians and find that there is alot of crap out there in the world of music. I thought that i had basically seen it all in the world of music and that all i'd see tonight was alot of powerchords. Was i wrong, experiencing Tool last night was one of the most amazing nights of my life. I have never seen anything quite like that, it was unfucking beleivable. That fucking drummer is Neil Peart times 10 and Maynard has some pipes even though he ran into some problems it seemed. All i have to say is Tool is fucking awesome and made a fan of me in 5 minutes. I can't wait to go to my next show. The only thing that sucked is I had 3 meatheads infront of me that were pounding beers and acting like meatheads do. But the true Tool fans in back of me in sec 106 thanks for telling me things during my first Tool experience. Thanks for being patient with a first timer, you true Tool fans fucking rock. P.S.- That drum jam was out of this fucking world!!!!!!!!!

The show was beyond words. My senses felt seperated and rejoined in an unfamiliar fashion. I have never done acid, but I have tripped many a time in my life, due to my occupation as an amateur psyconaut. And yes, I did have a toolgasm the first time I saw them. However, this time, the band instantly opened up something inside me, and took me up down left right and around all any everything, letting my senses feel and witness the incredibly masterful art before me. Sure, there were some technical fuckups, but in the end, it enhanced the experience. Partly: Watching Maynard sit there and focus, and wondering what he is evaluating in his mind, even if it is just allocating the stressful energy and responsibility he has as such an artist. As a whole, seeing the entire band 'recover' from such a small glitch- feeling dannys warm rightward vibe, towards maynard, much as a mother loving a wounded child... beautiful. Not to mention the connections I felt at various parts of the show. I'm pretty sure some of the AV equip was overheating. The tube lights and (red/yellow, black/white) oscillations seemed quite shallow. The purple hue, and the scrolls solidified and anchored the visual experience, however. The entire 'time' I was either dancing with the beautiful rhytmic stimulation, reevaluating my reality... feeling my body being aligned, feeling all my senses being purified, recognising on patterns and music within the stimulus, or all of the above. I felt very strangley mutually connected with adam. Also, the visuals he compiled for the two screens served as triggers activating thoughts, emotions, "circuitry" if you will, in my being. Tool are masters of their domain. I am amazed and inspired to continue to probe the boundaries of reality, tool has, and I continue see the amazing result. PS. I peed in my pants.

This was this reviewer's 1st Tool show

People have already posted the setlist, so like others, i won't post it. This was my first Tool concert, all i can say is, it was like a Religious Experience. I walked out emotionally drained. But judging from other reviews, i should have bought tickets to the Boston show. As soon as i walked in, i felt a little alienated, because of my age. (i was the 13 year old wearing the King Crimson shirt when i walked in) Tomahawk was great. I keeped an Open mind, and from thier Thrash-metal-slamdance-screaming style, they seemed really original. Tool was awesome, my jaw was dropped for the whole show, as i was playing Air-bass, and trying to get a look at Justin's rig. Maynard, with the Parabola incident, it was like a Parable (pun intented) that reminded me the Maynard as well as the other member of Tool are human. My God-Brother though was chanting something in Wiccian, hoping to heal Maynard. I have no idea if it worked though. I was a bit disapointed that they didn't do The Patient, Pushit or Third Eye, but you can't have anything. I will defenitly be going again. Be Patient...

Hey you! Read reviews already posted for your show to see if somebody already posted the setlist. I using a laptop.God I hate laptops so bear with me. Well Providence was the last stop on My Tool Tour.Started in Baltimore did all the show except Boston.RadioCity was the highlight .Not only was it the pefect venue for the band but on a personal note i met my hero Alex Grey(and yes he painted Maynard) that evening on my subway ride home.An inspiration to me and a gracious man.I'm still beaming from the experience. Baltimore and Trenton were great shows but the Continental Arena was brilliant.Just walked in with my VIP GA tix and stolled up to the rail!No queing in the heat for hour, just walked in.Being up from right under Justin .couldn't believe my luck.To watch them up close ,it's jaw dropping.Decked in leather Uber Maynard and Co.break into The Ramones Commando. The treat of the evening other than Maynards speedo clad herculean form was Opiate.reflection disposition and Triad are the highlight of the evening for me.Their musicanship is astounding. Then there was Providence.Missed tomahawk because traffic from new york all the way up 95 was hideous.Get there and find my seats were total crap. That wouldn't do.I wound up standing on the isle right by the soundboard next to Adam and Maynard.Nice and close. All was fine until Maynard blew his voice during Parabola.Very upsetting to see.Still they played through.By Lateralus however the crowd were disgusting.By the last verse Maynard just stood there and finished the number.I was heartsick for him and the band and totally repulse by the "audience". well I finished up the tour by having a cuban sandwich a evening with Jim Beam. Not the Jim i'd would prefer an evening with but one must make do.Thank you Tool for a wonderful week.I love you.Peace. www.alexgrey.com

I guess the only thing I have to add that most people weren't too clear on was that Maynard screwed up the lyrics during Parabola. His voice did crack twice before that (probably the wear and tear of three shows in three nights - but I saw them on the fourth show in four nights in Manchester and he sounded great - go figure). But I was singing along during Parabola and when MJK came back in with the lyrics, I thought I was singing the wrong part - then I realized he was. He paused for a second and tried to recover but he couldn't mesh with the other three and he threw the mic. (I feel bad for the poor roadie who had to crawl around and find it in the dark to put it back on the stand.) But after the show, I guess Maynard was pissed and went right on the tour bus. I hung around for about an hour and a half and met Justin (thanks for the autograph Justin!) I saw Danny and Adam come out a little while later and said hi to them. People were asking for autographs and Danny was very nice and just said sorry - we gotta go. So he and Adam waved to us and hopped on the bus and the bus took off. A hell of a show dispite Maynard's vocal trouble.

Alright.. providence was the 2nd stop on my weekend long tool extravaganza. now that ive had time to process the last 3 days, i thought this would be a good time to write out my thoughts on what was the most incredible performance ive ever had the fortune to see. I missed tomahawk in providence, but made my way to the 8th row on the floor, over to the left in an awestruck fashion. The night before i was in the balcony in boston, so being this close was just incredible. Being right in front of the speakers, the bass pounded through my body in waves, giving me a body high better than any drug ive ever consumed. I had goosebumps for the entire show. When H. began, i was nearly in tears- one of my absolute favourite works of beauty. I felt spiritual at this event. very connected to the band and the feeling of the crowd. my section was very respectful of eachother. no moshing, no shoving, just everyone singing along and absorbing the music. i had my hands up in the air often, trying to take in as much as i could, as well as hear and watch and sense.. truly overwhelming. As for the parabola issue, from where i was it was very clear what happened. maynard's voice had cracked twice already in the show, and he had reversed a few lyrics.. he botched a line and obviously got upset with himself.. threw the mic down and walked off. eventually he came back and just crouched, breathing, regaining composure. he seemed really upset with himself. the entire crowd finished his lyrics for him, almost to encourage him and remind him that it's alright. i really really wished i couldve gone up there to give him a hug, help him back up and thank him for caring so much. There was so much energy in this show.. the heptagrams everywhere had me giddy like a child. 7 points... 7 chakras.. the tree of life.. the Kabbalah.. the imagery was just incredible. the symbolism knocked the wind out of me. even the lights above the stage were in the form of a heptagram. To finally hear Disposition/Reflection/Triad as the one song they were meant to be was profound. It was perfection.. it was enchanting and inspiring. THEN, for lateralus, to watch all of the beautiful artwork drop down in the order it fell... to watch the human body transcend.. to show the heptagram so blatantly.. the gateway, all while the entire crowd sang "i embrace my desire to feel the rhythm.. to feel connected.." i was in tears. I could go on for hours, but i will spare you. i am enlightened. To the guys: Thank you for sharing your moment with us.. i'm honoured for having been a part of your journey. ~*~With my feet upon the ground I lose myself between the sounds and open wide to suck it in, I feel it move across my skin. I'm reaching up and reaching out, I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.~*~ Spiral Out--

I left my home late (waiting for friend who didn't show up...ate ticket) so I missed Tomahawk and arrived about ten minutes before TOOL took the stage. Good show. I was impressed with the performances of H. and Triad. Only flaw was during Parabola but hey, we all have bad work days. I hope that Maynard's voice recovers if that is the case. I am sure that the setlist has already been posted by the many other reviews but for the sake of taking up space... - Intro - Sober - The Grudge - (-) Ions (Stinkfist intro) - Stinkfist (w/ Elvis lyrics) - H. - Schism - parabol - parabola - Ænema - Disposition - Reflection - Triad (feat. Tomahawk) - Lateralus P.S. On another note, for the frat boys and drunks sitting behind me calling Maynard a pussy after the Parabola mishap, FUCK YOURSELVES STRAIGHT TO HELL! You go to a TOOL show to experience powerful music not to drink yourself retarded and mosh like an asshole!

Another phantasmagoric experience. Tomahawk, I thought, were better than Fantomas last year, though still a kind of "let's piss people off instead of making them like the music" band. TooL had marvelous visuals, of course; I'm going to have to do some research on Alex Grey and sacred geometry now, so I can actually understand some of this stuff. Don't know if it was Maynard's voice or his mike that gave out during Parabola, but these things happen and the boys kept playing like the professionals they are. As for the crowd, I didn't think there was an overwhelming number of moshing cretins, and besides, I like to see a variety of fans -- from the obnoxious to the reverent. The staff was a little overvigilant for my taste.

to clarify...i wasn't so sure maynard blew his voice out, if i recall correctly, he started singing the wrong lyrics, tried to fix it and sing the correct lyrics, but stopped. he needed to regroup for a moment, walked backstage....came out a minute or 2 later...and just kinda crouched down....and let us sing the lyrics to him. i don't think this was an average tool show by any means...the band seemed to play harder to make up for what happened, and the presentation of disposition, reflection, triad and then lateralus was flawless and beautiful. we are all only human after all...and up to that point i had seen 5 perfect performances...we are allowed to fuck up. it happens. i don't love tool any less. i have more respect for them. there is no apology necessary...i wonder if mjk really posted that post up top...but i didn't feel that energy...probably cuz this fucked up guy wouldn't leave me and my friend alone..really annoying....i don't care what you put into your body...but stay to yourself, leave me alone...its really disrespectful. i don't go to see tool to meet guys, i am there for the music, so stop trying to hit on me....you are wasted and obnoxious and ruining everyone's experience...not just mine.
