Review written by: Krist (Ravenblue9@juno.com) Review posted on: 08/17/98 23:57:13 I traveled 2 and 1/2 hours just to see maynard and TOOL once again, and of course they kicked ass... What more can you ask for? I pushed my way up to the second row just to absorb as much TOOL as i possibly could. Maynard was wearing a thong, allowed his pants to hang low, and it was all good. I was supprised to see how many non-TOOL fans there were hogging the space in the front. I almost had to set this 40 yr old ozzy freak straight when she decided to scream ozzy while TOOL was on stage, but my vocal cords were able to drown her hackle out. Besides that bitchy ticket checker, TOOL kicked ass and the trip was well worth it. Oh I was also suprised how some other bands performed. Kicking ass on stage with those prissy girls dancing around Limp Bizkit rocked as well!!! all i have left to say is TOOL.

Review written by: Rich Martielli (Gandalf76@aol.com) Review posted on: 08/17/98 00:40:01 TOOL only gets better as time goes on. The show kicked ass. They did two songs from Opiate, two from undertow and three from Aenima. MJK had on this like white face paint that made him look like a voodoo priest. I was standing on the guard rail screaming my lungs out. There was a mini pit on the grass and dirt clouds formed. For me it was the peak of the concert.

Review written by: Master Reviewer (brgros@uscom.com) Review posted on: 07/20/98 12:47:24 I'm never dissapointed to see TOOL. However the kick-off show in Holmdel was disapointing. I am an audio engineer, and had great seats approximatly 15 seats to the right hand side of the console,at mix position. Throughout the day it sounded like amps were clipping, cutting out the speakers. I excused it though, assuming that TOOL's engineer would have the problem solved. WRONG. I looked to my left only to notice that someone pulled a cassette out of a box. I assume it was a four-track. They then pulled a line out of the four-track and the vocals cleared right up. To my dismay, however they plugged it right back in , and there went Manard's vocal...cutting in , then out. It was like listening to the master mixes with someone arbitrarily muting the lead vocal. Needless to say it was quite annoying.

Review written by: Debbie (Debb00@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/10/98 10:39:09 All I have to say is I luckily was able to get first row tickets for this show and Tool was the best band of the day. They were so ON, the sound, the band, they just played everything to the "T". And, when they played Jerk Off we couldn't believe it. I just wished that they played over Ozzy's time. Don't get me wrong I love Ozzy, but Tool was just amazing.

Review written by: Gersos (dgerson@nshs.edu) Review posted on: 07/09/98 14:56:02 Having seen Tool a number of times in the surrounding area, including all the New York shows, i was ready to be blown away. And as always, tool never dissapoints. Opening with Cold&Ugly, set the theme for the rest of the show, although i got worried for a sec when the vocals were cut due to some obvious technical difficulty. Carey added many extra drums to the mid points of songs, he is incredible. The set list was good, i would have liked to hear 3rd Eye again but no luck. When they ended with Jerk Off it made my day, that tune is pure energy, Tool style. "Knock, knock" "Who's there?" "Fuck" "Fuck who?" "Come back sunday for the answer" Dan‰

Review written by: Lynch Mob (j.j.lynch@usa.net) Review posted on: 07/09/98 05:14:15 Someone else previously mentioned that there were more Tool t-shirts than there were anything else. I have to concur with this observation. Seeing as me and the friend I brought along had lawn seats and needed something on par with the Hubble to see the stage, we decided to check out some of the 2nd stage acts. This, I feel, was a blessing in disguise. I enjoyed Kilgore, Ultraspank, Incubus, and especially System of a Down. The guitar player for SOAD did something that reminded me of Maynard, that is he stared intensely out into the crowd, picking out certain focal spots. This gives the impression that he's looking at YOU. Very effective. Seeing as that I was 15 feet away from the 2nd stage and about 15000 feet away from the main stage, this was probably my most enjoyable experience at the Ozzfest. Tool was...duh, they were excellent as usual. I was glad to see that they incorporated songs such as "Undertow" and (my fave) "Jerk-Off." This was my third time seeing them and I must say, this was the mildest I've ever seen Maynard with his onstage banter. I must attest, I was kind of looking forward to him lashing out on someone. Alas, it is the music that really counts however and in that they definitely didn't disappoint. Hope all of their future shows are as good as this one, have fun all those who attend in the future.

Review written by: Heather (maynard153@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/07/98 19:53:54 so, i saw tool at ozzfest. i didn't think that there was anyway i could like tool more than i did but it happened. the show was incredible. it blew ozzy out of the water. i was had shitty tickets on the lawn but i jumped the fence with my friends and got to a little bit better of a spot. by the time tool came on we were on the second to front level. the bitch ticket checkers wouldn't let me though so i had to stay kinda far away. oh well. it was still the best concert of my life. there were a bunch of pussy people around me and no one but me my friend ann and two other guys wanted to rush the stage so we didn't. i just stood back and enjoyed the best band of all time. god damn, the fuckin rule.

Then they went to 46 and 2, Then hitting Stinkfist then after that he was saying a knock knock joke and he said if u wanted to know the punch line then come on Sunday. He said Knock Knock we said who's there He said Fuck we said Fuck who Then he said if u want to know the punchline then to come on Sunday I didn't go to the one on Sunday so if anyone knows the punchline then u can email it to me ok I would appreciate it Thanks. Then he played Aenima then He finished it w/ Crawl Away. I swear That was one of the best shows I have ever seen u could feel the vibe all round the room It was so Awesome. Review written by: Nick (Negtv ions@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/06/98 09:57:49 Amazing! that is the first word that comes to my mind upon thinking of the july 3 date of ozzfest. My day was a memorable experince. to start off i was seated in the lawn which sucked luckly a freind of mine snuck me to the seating area. it was high but in the shade. so there i sat all day through boring acts of screamers and fools until 8 pm. tool appeared and i made my way to one level lower then where i was. a fight broke out so again i moved down finally i got to the bottom level and there i sang alon with maynard and i absorbed all the energy he sent out. after the show i managed to sneek again backstage and there i waited for the band to come out so i could thank them. well i didn't see them all but i did meet adam. i told him that it was a great show and the he had changed my life he shook my hand and said thank you. well i guess tha tmad my year. any way it was a great show . nick petikas...p.s. the rest of ozz fest sucked!!

Review written by: David Vigliotti (Vigibuff21@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/05/98 21:53:06 I have been a true Tool fan ever since "Undertow" in '93 and now, after seeing them live, gives me a whole new thought....THEY ARE ONE OF THE BEST BANDS OF THE 90'S!! Getting my first look at how the band looks made it an even better show! After 45 m inutes of great music, amazing light effects, and some cool movies on the video screen.....I could honestly say that Tool was the best band on the Ozzfest tour! Today, two days after the concert, I am still singing my favorite Tool songs.."Forty-Six & 2" and "nema". I am also anticipating the next time Tool comes to the NY/NJ area so I could see them live once again!! Hopefully they will come out with another album and launch their own tour (that would be great!). Oh yeah, Maynard looked really cool with the white-face-paint on!! And it was great when he talked about how much he loves Ozzy and demanded that the crowd cheer for him f or the whole half-hour intermission between Tool's show and Ozzy's show!!

Review written by: SarcasmGuy (SarcasmGuy@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/05/98 12:31:51 Allright, it wasn't Ozzfest. It was Toolfest. There were more Tool fans there than any other specific band INCLUDING Ozzy. When Tool came on, all the pits dissipated and everybody jumped barriers and sneaked past guards to get as close as possible to the stage. It was the first time all day that every seat in the ampetheater was full. They started their show with Cold and Ugly off of Opiate. Maynard had his face Painted white, sorta kabuki style, and to his(his not our) right was Danny and his left in order was Justin and Adam. There was a cloth video screen behind them playing random things meant to highten the experience. Cold and ugly rocked, which caught the attention of those there not familiar with Tool. Then they moved into Stinkfist, which everyone knew. The whole stadium sang along with the chorus, swaying with the beat. That was pretty much the case with the whole show. tens of thousands of people paked shoulder to shoulder swaying in unisen singing along. Maynard sang perfectly and entertained the crowd in between songs with funny little commentary. He moved perfectly along with the song, like the music was running through his veins making him move. Danny Was a show in himself to watch. His drumset is the size of a small state and he's huge. Justin and Adam are kinda focused on the music so they're not much to watch but they're cool anyway. The video screen in the back played mostly strange Amp-ish images of distred water and stuff like that that went well with the movie. Occationally, they'd play part of the video for the song they were playing. During Sober(I think) the screen showed nothing but a person's eye being operated on. It was gross but cool. Also, I don't remember when, the screen played a video of two naked girls crouching in the corner swating away what looked like a metal probe. It was eerie. They were crying and it disturbed me but I didn't mind too much. The best part of the show was when they played a new lead into one of they're songs (I think 46&2) that I'd never heard before. Adam and Justin got down on the stage floor near the speakers to get distortion and Maynard sort of squatted down and rocked back and forth. The light tubes they set up on stage turned the whole group from blue to pruple to red to combinations, outlines, right along with the song. It was a slow, swayiung song that went on for a long time. I'd never heard it befroe but it was really nice and it moved the crowd. In all, Tool was by far the best perfromance of the day. The really got to the crowd. and they really got to me.

Review written by: Jon Rauch (psykostx@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/05/98 01:55:17 I had fairly decent seats after my friend Joe and I (Jon) pushed and shoved our way up. We were waiting for the stage crew to get all of Megadeth's shit off the stage (they really blow), and right after the drum tech finished micing Mr. Carey's set we sat up in response to the audience's cheering. And sure enough, there was Adam, still, with his hair down in his face, with a stage tech strapping on his guitar. Then, out came Danny, I couldn't see him very well, being a drummer, I really wanted to o, though. Too bad his set was wedged into the corner of the stage. Soon after, Justin came out, and strapped on his bass. Inevitably, out popped Manyard, with his white face paint on. After about 3 minutes of distortion and feedback a song emerged. "Cold and Ugly" was the song. At first, Manyard's mic must have been off, because I couldn't here his voice, then suddenly, it came in. The song was great, it really got everyone in the mood for TOOL. Suddenly, the bass started booming that old famili ar tune, "46n 2." What a fuckin' great song, even better live than on a recording. Stinkfist almost made me cream my pants. The song that opened me up to TOOL, was now being played by them live, 50 feet in front of me. Adam, great solo, it sounded lik e something my friend Eugene would play (no sarcasm intended). Next up was Undertow, another beautifully orchestrated song. "How could this bring me back to my knees?" My friend Joe screamed into my ear (cause you had to scream to hear even your own voi ce), "Eulogy is my favorite song by them, they better play it." Ten seconds later, i heard the little woodblock ticking, I looked at my friend, he looked at me, and we smiled, "Eulogy" it was!!! After Eulogy was over and done with, there was a long peri od of feedback, Joe and I thought that "Third Eye" was on the way, when suddenly "Duh Dun, Da Duh Dun, Dut, dut dut." "Sober" FUCKIN' RULED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Manyard announced the next song as being about "Better living through irrigation." Me, and everyone else, knew what was next. As Adam sat there cold and still, slamming out nima, I made a trip to heaven and back. Manyard started dancing like Gumby, you know, that clay guy (he looked like he was made of rubber or something). The special effects on this song were great, cause it was dark out. There were underwater patterns being projected onto stage, giving the effect that we were under water, while that little gray screen in the corner was showing some fucked up shit. Why the fuck is D anny so damn good at drums, could someone ask him if I could be an intern, and he could teach me how to play drums like he can? (I can already play drums very well, but I wanna learn how to play like him!) PLEASE? Anyway, Manyard walked over to a stage t ech, and the stage tech held up five fingers, then Manyard walked over to Danny, again holding up five fingers, I'm assuming this meant that they had five minutes left. Just thought I'd tell you that! Well, they killed those five minutes VERY well. Je rk-Off is a great song, I loved the "Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeee!!," at the end. It sounded cool, I don't know why. 'Cause it's Manyard?! Well, TOOL was (and is) great. Jon Rauch signing off as Ozzfest '98 continues through whenever it ends. E-mail me at psykostx@aol.com PS: Could someone seriously try and hook me up with an internship with Danny, please????? I'll pay that person anything within $200. I'm dead serious. BTW, that's not my final reward, it is subject to raise!!!

Review written by: Noel (TooLChickY@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/04/98 12:56:10 (This is a long review... Only true tool fans will appreciate it, the others will get bored.) God....I have no idea where to begin.... TooL was fucking amazing..I mean seriously UNBELIEVABLe... This was my second time seeing them (last summer, Lollapalooza) but i wasnt as obsessed with them then as I am Now... I had SEventh ROw seats..not by runni ng up when the security guard wasnt looking either.. I am a dedicated fan who got up early and waited for those TIX... anyways Maynard comes out all i can look at is him... He's wearing these like Green Cargo pants... and his face is painted white.. almost in a diamond on his face... and on his bald head is what looks like a spine, vertebrae, going down the back of his head.. after a few seconds of talking with Adam he starts playing COLD And UGLY... Holy SHIT i was blown AWAY by that one... I never for one second they would play their old shit.. i figured it would mostly be the new album and the song sober.. anyways. ..he starts singing the song and me and my best friend are Going NUTS i mean, insane... we look like absolutely normal preppy chicks i guess you could say.. but when tool came on... oh god there was no controlling us.. we went NUTS.. we were seventh row CENTER and i had the aisle seat...i had TOOL and MJK written on my chest and the one DEFinte time and maybe one other Maynard looked at me and my friend.. i was ripping my shirt down so he could see the writings... It pissed me off that there REally werent many people going crazy i mean, no one fucking had a clue what song COLD and UGly was... but i guess they were there for OZzy... I dont remember the order of the songs.. so i'm just gonna ramble... Undertow.. they played UNDERTOW!! UNfuckingBelievable... i was standing there screaming my guts out.... I still cant believe he played it... i was WAITING for stinkfist... just WAITING for it... and when it came on i was Jumping up and down to the beat of it...and the bridge they Added in before he screams the words "I'll keep digging"... i have heard that before but had no idea they woul d play it.. HOW AWESOME WAS THAT SONG LIVE??? EVEn if you ARENT a FAN of TOOL... STINKFIST HAD u FUCKING out of Your SEAT and JUMPing ARound.... Eulogy... I believe EUlogy is one if not the best TOOL song LIVe.. the beggining of it.. it gets u into it, starting off slow and all... and then BAM.. SO LONG... from there its just fucking unreal... best song live, i think... SOBER... Oh god.. i cant say enuff about that song... They DID their fucking RIP ASS EXTended INTRO.... and when the GUitar starts in by itself before the drums... the sound of that guitar... that brought Tears to my eyes... The whole time maynard just wa s crouched low on the stage... lightly swaying to the music... Of course, mostly everyone knew that song... I found it to be one of the best experiences inmy life during a concert when i turned around and looked at the crowd during the chorus... everyone singing.. it felt SOOO FUCking GOOD just to know how much everyone appreciated TOOL..even if it was just for that song.. I dont know.. it was great... 46n2 was another crowd pleaser.. that sounded great live as well.. the crowd was going crazy for that one.. but the crowd was the most energetic when AEnima was sung...SOME punk ass kid in front of me was like in my way most of the show.. and i kept goi ng out in the aisle cuz i couldnt see MAYNArd perfectly... so the whole time he is quiet and not moving much.. he doesnt know TOOL... but when AENIMA came on! oh my god he was acTING TOO COOL and he almost gave me the impression that he REALLY Liked TO OL... ASSHOLE!!! he got all into it and kept looking back at his friends, waving his hands in the air.. what a fucking poser... i hate people like that yeah, other people didnt know all of the songs but they werent going nuts and screaming WOO HOO pretending to be a TOOL Fan when they really didnt know a fucking song other than AENima, and considering they play that song out like its their job on 92.3 KROC and it would be amazing if you didnt know the song.. well anyways the song was incredible ... what am i talking about.. the WHOLE SETLIST WAS INCREDIBLE.. any wORD that comes from Maynards mouth is incREdlible.. any hit of the drums from danny is awesome..any sounds from the guitars of justin and adam is incredible.. THey Ended with JERkoff.. another shocker there...the best thing about that song was maynard with his Poland Spring water bottle.. he was holding it and during the song... it was an extended version, maynard starts to convulse on stage and throws water AL L OVER HIMSElf.... oh my god u dont understand.. seeing maynard wet,, DRIpping wet.. watching his face the whole time only standing 8 feet back.. that is the best fucking feeling EVer....GREAT show.. Even though they were restricted to only 60 minute s of time =( it was still a fucking great time.. well worth my $95 dollars for BOth OZZFESTs.. YEs i am going back and you all will see me, hopefully in the front again if i can get there, going nuts over TOOL... I hope to see many more DEdicated TOOL fa ns out there going crazy with me this time.

Review written by: rob musial (lotslckr@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/04/98 10:04:59 tool put on an amazing show at ozzfest. their set included cold and ugly, 46n2, stinkfist, undertow, eulogy, sober, aenima, and jerk off. while their set was short because of the festival time constraints they were absolutley amazing. they had the best s ound of all the bands one the bill and they played very tight and were right on top of things, never missing a beat. maynard had his face painted white like last year's lollapalooza tour, but he didn't have a costume on. nobody puts on a better live show than tool!

Review written by: Biz (Bza98@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/04/98 09:55:33 Maynard and the boys made it alot easier this time around playing only a half hour from home. By now youve seen the setlist. I was surprised they played Undertow and no Hooker. Im sure Sunday theyll unleash that one. Maynard took one from Bill Hicks telli ng usthat he taped some mushrooms and crack underneath our seats. I also loved when he asked the crowd if "Anyone out there from Cleveland...Oh good" I was only 10 rows away, And during 46&2 and Stinkfist he was just rocking back and forth in a trance. Hi s eyes just stayed locked on one location. His moves are amazing, during 46&2 he was luging everywhere. He had some white face paint on and green pants. They did this long ass jam before Sober and Maynard just croutched down and stared into space for like 5 minutes. Adam just stayed at the right of the staged and absolutely fucking whaled. There was a 180 degree video screen behind Maynard. It was all the videos from last Lollapalooza. They were so into it this time around. The crowd absolutely loved them . PNC looks awesome when its filled to capacity.A few rows back someone held a huge Opaite banner. Clsong the show with Jerk-Off was so awesome. I love the end of that one.Maynard told us a knock knock joke. The answer is going to be the begging to Hush o n Sunday FUCK YOOOOOOOOOOU!!!!! Ill be there. I hope they do Toolfest in the future.

Review written by: Vic (vic462@monmouth.com) Review posted on: 07/04/98 09:30:26 Setlist: Cold And Ugly, 46&2, Eulogy, Stinkfist, Undertow, Sober, Aenima, Jerk-off. Tool completely stole the show. It was hot as hell and the crowd was tired by this point, but once we saw the band take the stage, everyone went wild. They opened with Cold and Ugly. Naturally, a lot of people were looking around like, "what the hell is this?" Aside from some problems with Maynard's mic, they sounded great. It was still kind of light out at this point, so you really couldn't see much of their light show or the cameras. You could see Maynard wearing a white mask. 46&2 was next and now all the radio fans came out of the woodwork. It's still a great song and they played it to perfection. Very crisp and they managed to level out the microphones by now. 46&2 really blew us all away. I said before the show that if they played 46&2 and any other combination of songs, I would be happy and I was. I'm having some trouble remembering the combination of the next few songs, but I think I got it right. Eulogy was great. Much more powerful live than on the album. Stinkfist kicked ass. Another fabulous live song. At the end right before "I'll keep digging" they broke out into an intense jam which lasted for about 5 mins and then finished the song off. Undertow was another song where people were like, "what the fuck". I know the song as most did, but there were plenty of people lighting smokes and bullshitting around waiting for another radio song. They put a jam on the end of this which led into Sober. It almost sounded like ions with all the feedback and there was a strong bass line and drum beat. The lights on the stage were pulsationg with every beat and then they went right into sober. I was hoping for third eye, but what the hell, sober was still awesome and it made the crowd very happy. There were about 30000 backup singers for sober and it sounded great. After sober, Maynard said, "this next song is about better living through irrigation". Aenima blew me away. Personally, I think it is one of the best tool songs and best rock songs out there. At the end when "fuck l ron hubbard, and fuck all his clones" was supposed to start, he put "fuck retro anything, fuck your tattoes" in it's place. Really caught the crowd off guard. The whole stage was lit with neon green lights which were pulsating with the drum beat. They finished with Jerk-Off. It sounded great as did the rest of the show. This was my first time seeing tool and they didn't let me down. Although, the ticket price was kind of steep($43), it was worth it to see tool. Other things Maynard said were," You people seem kind of tired out there, well before the show we put some mushrooms and crack under your seats, but don't use any cause it's illegal." "So how many of you are really from Cleveland?" "Who's coming back Sunday Night? You should all come back cause I'm gonna tell you a joke and I'll give you the punch line on Sunday. Knock knock, who's there? Fuck....". He may have said some more stuff, but I can't remember it now. If it werent for Tool and Limp Bizkit on this tour, it really would have been a dud. Limp Bizkit was awesome as well with their giant toilet on stage and all their energy. Bottom Line- If you are a tool fan and you don't see them at ozzfest, you are out of your mind. They only played for 60 mins, but it was a wonderful show. Like myself, a ton of people left as soon as tool left the stage. I came to see tool and I saw tool.

Review written by: mike fenster (afpatrick@sprintmail.com) Review posted on: 07/04/98 08:52:46 so, i traveled 2 hours from queens, nyc, sat in traffic , and had the best time of my life. what a day. ALL the bands were good, even the ones i have never heard of, so, that brings me to Tool. Around 7:30, the stage crew started to set up Tools set. he put up this semi circle kind of screen , that i assumed was a projection screen of some sort. then the drums came out, and tehy were set up on the far left of the stage. they also brought out this round gong looking thing that i have never seen at a tool show before. 8:00 comes, and the band walks out on stage. the were set up like this, danny on the left, maynard, justin, adam on the far right. danny looked like he always does, shirt with the cut sleeves, shorts, long hair, adam looked pretty mellow, with a shorter hair cut than usual, and a black shirt, justin had no shirt on, and was wearing black pants, and then maynard, compared to last years lolapallooza, maynard looked normal, he had black pants on, and there was a white design painted on his face. They came out, maynard just looked at the crowd , did a little wave thing, and then they broke into the first song, here is a set list of the songs, Cold & ugly 46&2 stinkfist undertow eulogy sober, with a long intro aenima jerk-off the set was short, almost exactly an hour, and of course there were the patented Maynard-isms, here are some, 1 "why are you all still wearing your clothes, this isnt a church, its a rock show, take 'em off" 2 "we taped some mushrooms and crack under your seat, now, they are illegal so dont take them, but they are there" 3 "how many of you are coming on sunday, well here is a joke that you will get the punchline to on sunday, knock kncok, whos there, fuck, fuck who.... come back on sunday!" 4 before aenima, "this songs about better living through irrigation" 5 "i want you to screem from when we go off, till ozzy comes on" all in all a great show, i had a blast, hope to see tool again soon!

Review written by: Jean (To0lchic@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/04/98 03:26:42 WOW...I don't know what else to say...I just got back from the opening date of this year's ozzfest tour. My sole reason for going was to see TOOL. This was my second time seeing tool live, my first was at lollapalooza last year. So this show was at the PNC Bank Arts Center in N.J. and unfortunately there are seats..=( but it was cool cuz i had 7th row center!!!! so i felt like i was right up there on stage. i don't even want to get into the other bands cuz i didn't care about them. Most of them put on a some what of an "entertaining" show...but the bottom line is they are not TOOL, so i really could care less about them. I just watched them to pass the time away until TOOL played. Let me just tell a funny story about my way into the arts center. camersa aren't allowed of course, but i had to sneak one in, cuz i had such decent seats and all...so i get to the gate and this older lady is there checking bags and stuff. It was clear that she too had had a few too many to drinks, well anyway...she told me to open my bag and asked what was inside. I told her that i had like my wallet and stuff, and a shirt for later blah blah..and so she told me to take it out so she could see in the bag...adn as i did..about 3 or 4 rolls of film fell out onto the ground. i just stood there in awe, my jaw dropped to the ground and i was like oh shit now i am going to have to go all the way back to my car...so my friend and her quick thinking was like why do you have film in there? did you leave it in there from the other day? i didnt know what to say..the lady was way drunk and was like, you dont have a camera in there do you? i was like no, no i don't. she was all ok sure..go in. so i got it in! and my friend and i couldn't stop laughing cuz it had to have been the funniest thing to see. so anyway thats my little story....back to the stuff you all actually care about. so tool was scheduled to go on at 8 adn were supposed to play for about an hour. they ended up goign on a little after 8 adn played for just about an hour...playin 8 songs.. So they walk out on stage all calm and collected and i was like holy shit...there is Maynard, in all his glory. Oh wow that man is beautiful! He was wearing dark green cargo-like pants, and his face was painted with white make-up. wow. so i was standing there in awe, and i couldn't believe that it was actually TOOL standing just a few feet in front of me. Then the music began...oh that beautiful sounds. I was like in a trance immediately. They opened up with cold and ugly. Here is the set list: Cold & ugly 46&2 stinkfist(they played the extra bridge thingy in the middle) undertow eulugy sober(they played the extended intro) nema jerk-off cold & ugly I am jsut going to babble on and on about TOOL...so here goes. i was looking forward to this show for so long. and then i finally got there and was finally watching TOOL again and it was like a dream, but better. i can't describe it, but i can. its weird, but i think that you get it...well some of you do. us lucky ones get it at least. TOOL is like a gift, and i guess that you either have it or you don't, and those of us who don't are really missing out on a lot. they are like my savior, its hard to explain, but i know that there are at least a few people out there who understand. no matter how i am feeling, or what emotion i am experiencing..i can listen to TOOL and i will feel better. i think that there music just speaks for itself adn makes everything else go away. ok so let me talk more about the show. Maynard was so into it. watching him move around to the music was un-fucking-believable. there is nothing else like seeing TOOL live. i was practiacally crying. my friend and i were goign crazy, singing, dancing, yelling to maynard, but when i looked around there were not that many people who knew all the words to all the songs, and they did not appear to be having as good a time as we were. it was amazing, and i swear that Maynard looked straight at the two of us more than once. He made some cute little coments between songs. He said something about this being a rock concert and that we should be getting naked. which surprised me a little, and no i didn't get naked, even though it was Maynard... He asked us who was coming back on sunday..and of course i am.. adn he told us a "riddle" adn said we will get the punch-line on sunday. The first part was "Fuck" so i can't wait to see what the punchline is going to be. What he said kinda led me to believe that they will pit on a "different" show on sunday. I hope that this is the case, and they play different songs! Before nema, he said something about this song being about good irrigation. Watching Tool live is an amazing experience, and if you have the chance, i recommend seeing them live. Watching Maynard move to the music was amazing. I just stood there...soaking it all up, not really knowing just what to do. During the end of jerk off, which may i add was also somewhat extended, he got so into it..and was holdign his water bottle in his hand..and he started jumping around and goign crazy adn it spilled all over him, and he was all wet. The whole Tool live thing is just amazing and i don't even know what else i can say about them. i guess you just had to be there...and if you can get to see them in the near future...GO! So i guess that i am coming to the end of my babbling. WOW...TOOL.... that just says it all right there...tool....ahhhhhhhhh.... i dont know how to end this...but for all of you going to see them soon, have fun! ~Jean

Review written by: Chris P. (Biggwang80@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/04/98 03:11:26 I got in from Ozzfest a few hours ago. Amazing to say the least. Tool, was by far, the best act. I have been an avid fan for quite some time now, and waiting to see this band was like a little kid waiting to open his presents on Christ- mas morning. My only regret of living in the NY area is the fact that Tool doesn't come around often. And it was disappointing...even thought they were the main act besides Ozzy, Tool played for about only an hour. And the did a lot of BS'ing, and little guitar solo's, etc., so it limited the number of songs they got to play. Unfortunatly, Prison Sex was not among the songs played. It was an incredible sight to see the ENTIRE stadium moving to Aenima and Stinkfist. Other's who weren't "into" Tool even began to take a liking. Overall, a fantastic event, and Tool made it a hell of a lot better. Now, let's get those bastards to come out to the EAST COAST a bit more! =) -chris

Review written by: Joe O'Connell (Joe3756@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/04/98 02:58:18 Very excellent show. It's too bad Tool could only go on for an hour, but they were awesome. The last song they played was Jerk- off, for clarification purposes, I see the other seven songs are posted already. Instead of saying, "I should play god and SHOOT you..." Maynard used a more graphic, four letter word. He seemed to be in a playful mood, making jokes about there being mushrooms and crack underneath the seats, and the whole knock-knock joke... I was a little disappointed at this show because at the PNC Bank Arts Center, they have the seats right up against the stage, and the "lawn" was a steep hill, so there wasn't anyplace to really mosh. Unlike the Roseland, where I broke my concert cherry, I didn't get a chance to go nuts like I wanted to. But of the three Tool concerts I've been to, this one was the best musical live performance I've seen. The intro to Sober was cool, as was the alternate middle of Jerk-off. You can tell they've got more (new) music coming, I just wish they'd play it at a show...

Review written by: Jack Haas (pj30@monmouth.com) Review posted on: 07/04/98 01:10:37 Wow. That's all I have to say. This was my first Tool live experience. Wow. MJK had white face paint on, and was somewhat "jovial". He told a joke or two, and really got into the songs. I believe the setlist has already been posted, so I won't bother putting it here. This was by far the most emotionally charged performance I have ever seen.

Review written by: Mitch (xpet@earthlink.net) Review posted on: 07/04/98 00:37:18 Just got back - what a day! OK The stage setup has Danny all the way over on the left (stage right) and Adam all the way over on the right (stage left). Maynard painted his face white and he wore regular pants / no shirt. They were setup in a straight line across the stage and behind them they had a video/projection screen that extended outward (not flat) in a round semi-circle configuration. Tool hits the stage @ 8pm SHARP! The setlist (in order): 1. Cold & Ugly 2. 46 & 2 3. Stinkfist (with extended solo for Adam) 4. Undertow 5. Eulogy 6. Sober (super extended intro w/a lot of effects noodling) 7. Aenema 8. ??? That's it. 8 songs. They were great as usual. Besides the Knock Knock joke, Maynard commented that people had on "way too many clothes" and that everyone should get naked. I'll be there again on Sunday.

Review written by: Will (nuclebomb@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/03/98 23:52:09 OK, I can't remember the setlist. I know they played Stinkfist, Eulogy, 46 & 2, Sober, Aenima, Undertow, and a couple older ones. Maynard told a knock-knock joke that he said he won't give the answer to until the show on Sunday. It went...knock-knock...who's there?...Fuck...Fuck who????
