Review written by: Matt (aenema@voicenet.com) Review posted on: 08/29/98 18:51:31 This is the first time I will ever see Tool and man it was a kick ass thing. The whole day at Ozzfest was awesome. Best concert I've ever seen in my damn life. I went fearing that with lawn seats I wouldn't be able to see anything and I'd be with like 50 other people but I saw that probably 80% of the people there had lawn seats! I found out that lawn seats are awesome! I will say that I've never seen so many stoned people in my entire life. Jesus. Well, I was at the main stage all day long and let me say that most of the bands in the beginning sucked! Sorry to put it that way, but I was dieing to hear Tool! Tool is the only reason I came. *Kilgore---Probably the best band I saw up until Limp Bizkit. *Sevendust---SUCKED in my opinion. *Coal Chamber---A lot better than Sevendust, but I did not like them that much. *SoulFly---Better than Coal Chamber, but still not as good as Kilgore. *Limp Bizkit---What can I say.. that giant hopper on stage and the awesome girl he had. He woke everyone up too! He came and walked around in all of the isles. This was really cool. *Megadeth---Damn. Awesome. They had great songs and everything, but at this point I wanted to hear nothing but Tool. Greatest band I heard all day up until that point. ***TOOL------------KICK ASS! Finally at 8:00 PM Tool took the stage. I saw Adam on the far right, Justin to the left of him, and Danny on the drums at the far left, but I could not find Maynard because he was dressed like one of the roadies. They played "Part of Me" first and let me say that this did not sound like Tool at all. No one could hear Maynard's voice over the bass and Danny looked like he could give a shit if he hit the right drum or not. After that, Maynard said "Ha ha. Ha ha.. Who's the joker?[or something like that]", then he started stripping down to his shorts and said "This is the most unsexual strip tease you've ever seen." and went into "Hush". That was unbelievable. After Hush, they played "Stinkfist", with the added verse. That was a great song, but again I couldn't hear his voice over the bass. Then, they surprised me by playing Crawl Away, and then played Sober. Everyone sung that with him. Pushit was next. That was so cool. It was the slower version, my personal favorite. It was just so mesmorizing. Well, to me anyway. Since no one else saw it on MTV or heard it on the radio they didn't have a clue that this was one of Tool's songs. And also some people have no respect.. I mean I was watching it just when everyone in the freakin lawn decides to start crowd surfing. So now, I have to take my eyes off of the stage and watch for falling morons. And another thing.. How the HELL can you mosh to the slower version of Pushit??? I'm serious, there was a mosh pit right next to me. That was so screwed up. Anyway, next was Bottom, which was cool, but really the next song rocked.. Aenema. After some screwy voice talked about evolution of species and etc. for a while, Maynard said, "This next song is about better living through irrigation" and started Aenema. Again, mosh pits formed to a more reasonable song. And again everyone sang with him. Isn't it incredible how everyone sings the two songs they see on MTV and hear on the radio, but no one has a clue about all the other great songs Tool does. What a joke. I hate MTV. The monitors had really cool videos on but there was too much light shining on them to really see. And also the sun was just setting and was shining like directly onto the stage at a horizontal point. All in all, Tool kicked ass. They really seemed like they weren't into it though, like they didn't care about anything there. To diehard fans like me who went just to see Tool.. what an experience. But even though I've never seen so many people with Tool shirts on, I don't think anyone else was really was mesmorized by them. They were too crowd surfing and moshing to slow songs. Frankly, I don't think people gave a shit. It also makes me wonder why Tool played here. They are nothing like most of the other bands.. They are a whole lot better. Lastly, I don't think that Ozzy was that great. I know people will disagree, but listen to my reasons first. It was his concert, he was the main show, and he had the time and set. He had all kinds of goodies there, it was dark, he used all of the monitors, all kinds of lights and effects, water, you name it. I think that if you did that to any other band like or especially Tool, they would have been just as great.

Review written by: Aceldama (Gagdum@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/15/98 22:45:38 I was somewhat bothered by the reviews I just read and their negative opinions. I guess some people do not understand how frustrating it must be for them with their record label shit happening. Some of us need to stop being so critical and just enjoy th e music, consider yourself fortunate enough to have the oportunity to see them. I was priveleged enough to be in the front row pit waiting patiently until 7:50pm came around and my heart began to beat faster for I knew they would be on soon. 8:00pm and I see Danny walk by, then Justin, then Adam and no Maynard. Of course by now I am searching frantically for him, and then the they begin to play "Part of Me" and still no Maynard! Suddenly, a roadie swaggers up to the microphone and begins singing, IT IS MAYNARD! I felt relieved seeing, feeling and hearing his presence. The set list was a great variety of old and current songs. I have NO regrets, but I was disappointed at the short stage time. The show was so exhilarating, that the following day I purchased tickets for their show at the Santa Barbara Bowl on 8-29. I will be flying from Philadelphia, PA to attend this wonderful event. And to those of you on the east coast complaining about the shows in the west, TOO BAD!! Buy tickets and go! Sea America! P.S. "Hunt down and kill Billy Ray Cyrus." -Bill Hicks

Review written by: shane (shane@toolshed.down.net) Review posted on: 07/15/98 16:28:32 This is a review, not a folk song. I won't bore you with the details of my trip to the concert. The Ozzfest site has a list and information on the other bands playing so I won't bother telling you anything about them. I also won't complain about bands I didn't like, especially since this is a Tool page. If you transcended the disrepect paid to Melvins in the previous reviews and saw them on the 2nd stage you might have noticed certain Tool members at the soundboard and in the crowd. There is a reason why they are Tool's perennial openers, folks, figure it out. The inclusion of "Bottom" was the highlight of the show for me being the only song I've never seen live. Thankfully, I had seen Pushit performed in LA so I was able to understand what was happening. The concert's recipe seemed to be "Instant Asshole: add alcohol" so, at times, it was difficult to focus on the band. That was unfortunate. I thought it brave of the band to experiment with stage marks. Musicians become used to hearing each other in a familiar setting. Adam is likely used to hearing Danny in his left ear and Maynard, Adam in his right ear. It would've been even more novel to have turned Danny's kit sideways towards the rest of the band. All in all a great performance. I'm very proud.

Review written by: L.S.Lewis (consider_it@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/14/98 11:38:06 Please excuse me, Kabir and others, this is somehow turning into an inter-active discussion forum... My previous review which contained a definition of "sell-out" (see below somewhere) seems to have been taken in short context and with little thought. No big surprise. It's not a constant, energy ebbs and flows, this seemed to be one of those nights that the tide was pulled back a bit. Tool will remain my favorite band, the albums still move me in ways no other music can, thus the depth of my fears of their losing sight... The members even admit, many years ago, in an interview when everyone tells you how great you are, it becomes difficult to resist the mentality of being perfect, able to do no wrong. "Hooker with a Penis" does not apply to me or my review, two words are the only similarity between them; the actual *thought* which underlies is completely different. Sorry again for the un-review-like post. It won't happen again.

Review written by: Ryan McCormick (ryan_mccormick@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/13/98 17:59:22 This is a reply to L. S. Lewis's comentary on the down fall of TOOL which is among these reviews. I've seen TOOL a half a dozen times over the past 5 years and they have gotten better everytime I see them. They virtually never play the same set twice, they don't even play the same version of a song twice, Maynard always surprises with customes, comments, vocal range and new lyrics, and they give everything they have. They are by far the best fucking band this planet has to offer. Maynard has already made his reply to the likes of L.S. Lewis it's a little ditty called Hooker with a Penis. R.M.

Review written by: Alicia (MedcinTwin@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/13/98 03:30:46 Perfect. Amazing. Spirtual. Those are the first three words that come to my mind when I think of Tool. Seeing Tool live...Now thats a different story. I've been to my fair share of concerts, but Tool blows every single band away. I had the opportuni ty to see them last year at Lollapalooza. They were a million times better than I had expected. I had waited an entire year to see Tool again. They have been my favorite band for over five years now. They are so amazing. This year, Maynard came out dressed as a rodie. He fooled me. (I was far back in the seats) The stage was set up perfectly. The way the the purple lights hit Danny's drum set, the way the screens were set up...everything...Perfection. Maynard, once again, sang like an angel. After Megadeth's set ended...I felt like I was going to cry. I was so happy. I managed to hold bac k the tears until, I heard the begining of Pushit. As soon as I heard "rest your trigger on my finger" I started crying. I had never heard anything so beautiful in my entire life. I could sit here and type for hours about how much I loved that show and how amazing Tool really is...but I'm sure, that any of you that has ever seen Tool, knows exactly what I'm talking about. But the thing that made my night was when I saw the expression on my friend Mike's (omegax) face. I had been telling him for the past year that Tool is the best live band. And as said in his subbmission, he thought I was nuts. I was just so happy to kn ow that he finally understood what I've been talking about all these months. Tool has changed my life. I truely believe that they have given me the strength to be myself. To stand up for what I believe. To be whatever the hell I want to be. I wish I could personally thank them. But I guess...for now..this is gonna have to do. Thanks for reading. Alicia

Review written by: Mike (omegax@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/13/98 01:39:32 A couple friends and i went to ozzfest for one reason, Tool. Hearing my friend rave about how good they were live only added to the excitement. All of us had lawn tickets, they sucked really bad, you could hardly see the stage, but a bad view wasn't going to get in the way of my first Tool experience. During Megadeth's set all 6 of us successfully got into the seating section, and we could actually see the stage. After the everlasting Megadeth set finished, Tool finally came on. I was amazed through out their whole set. I heard so much about how Maynard moved like a marionette, and i finally saw it. He moved like a mechianized baby. The combination of Maynard, the music, the lighting, and the video that was playing made it all seem like a dream. I felt as if i wasn't actually there. I actually felt sick because it was so mysterious. After they finished their set, i looked at the amazed faces of my friends, and the tear filled face of another. I realized then that my friend was not a nut, and that Tool was actually that amazing live. We all left the E-Center in awe before Ozzy even walked on stage.

Review written by: Aaron Benson (SoberXXX@yahoo.com) Review posted on: 07/13/98 00:26:27 When I got to Ozzfest at 11:00 sharp we waited outside for about a half an hour until the Camden bastards finally let us into the place. we decided to watch some of the second stage bands and boy were we infor an unexpected surprise. We got right up to the front of never-never land and System of a down come on. They had some screwed up political views but man, they rocked!!! The one guitarist with the pink hair was so strung out on drugs that he didn't blink his eyes for the 45 min. he was on stage. Next came Snot, I don't care who you are, I'f you like any kind of hard rock/metal, you'll love these guys. They had more energy and more balls than any band I've ever seen before. Next on the second stage came Incubus, these guys sucked, plain and simple, sucked. After that crap was over we waited around, missed sevendust, and stayed for one of my favorite bands, Life of Agony. Check these guys out. Then we ran over to the main stage to see coal chamber-GOOD- Soulfly-OK-, Limp Bizkit-These guys were better than I imagined them to be, I heard that they weren't to good, then I listend to their CD, not to good either. But they put on a great show! Pleas forget all the crap you've read or heard and check them out, because they put on a really good show and alot of energy. Next came Megadeth-- they played far to long and they were so loud you couldn't here them to well, but the set up some great mosh pits. Then came the long wait. TOOL was next and I was breathing hard waiting for the best band ever. you've already seen the song order so go look at another review to see what they played. I was on the lawn, right up against the fence. Some kid was standing up right infront of me and was trying to piss us all off, It didn't work for me, but some guys behind me picked up a shoe they found and through it at the kid. They missed and hit this guy walking down the isle carring a beer. The beer spilled all over these poor people and it started a war. This eventually started to piss me off, So I kept yelling at the security guys to "take the shoes away!!", They finally did this and the concert became cool again. By the time ozzy came on I was so tired and so fulfilled by TOOL that I really felt like going home. I stayed but the ozzman didn't move me. His girly jumping jacks and his bad choice of songs pissed me off (if he would have playd my favorite song Parry Mason, I would have been happy) By-the-way the dikes with the bare naked, painted breasts, deserve some credit for putting up with all the old pervs who were yelling at them. You girls have real spirit. TOOL kicked plain and simple, but please, if your going, don't miss Snot, you'll regret it.

Review written by: Mav (Mavrik21@prodigy.net) Review posted on: 07/12/98 23:06:32 First and foremost...the set for the 11th was: Part of Me Hush Stinkfist Crawl Away Sober Pushit (slow version) Bottom Aenima This was the first time I've seen them play 'Bottom' since '92 and it was awesome. Like some of the other reviews... I would have loved to see some of the songs I feel are outstanding live like: Third-Eye, Prison Sex, 4 degrees, and Opiate. Also shouldn't Tool be headlining these events ... or go back to playing the smaller venues...standing room only ...One hour of Tool does not feed the hunger.

Review written by: Master Reviewer (jaynag@citnet.com) Review posted on: 07/12/98 22:03:25 TOOL! LIVE! If you're a TOOL fan and you've never seen them live I suggest you do so. I started getting in to TOOL a couple of years ago but after I saw them live at Lollapalooza last summer ('97) at the E-Center and they completely blew away every other band there as well as what I previously thought about their music. I've loved TOOL ever since. So when I saw them again, live, at the E-Center last night I was hysterically happy and in complete awe of their performance. The power of the music is so more intense than just listening to a recording. I was in the grass most of the day but a relativehooked me and one of my friends up with seat tickets about 20 minutes into their set. We were 7th row center for most of TOOL and all of Ozzy. Ozzy was good but I was there to see TOOL. I took pictures but I didn't get them developed yet so I don't know if they came out or not. We got completely soaked when Ozzy came on. There were these big high pressure fire hoses rigged up in the ceiling of the stage and every 5 or 10 minutes they sprayed down the audience with freezing cold water. It was pretty cool until the security wench wouldn't let us back stage because our backstage sticker/passes were wet and wouldn't stick to us. The passes were fine except for that but she still wouldn't let us in. That sucked. Security Wench!, wherever you are, my loss will become your misfortune! Or something threatening like that. I would personally like to thank TOOL for playing Aenima; that is if they read this. I kind of wanted to hear Opiate live but still, you boys put on a damn good show. By the way, for all you TOOL fans reading, I heard their going to be with another tour around late summer. I forget what it's called. Something values. Something like that. If they sell tix for it, I'll be there. Have fun.

Review written by: Eric (phaethon0@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/12/98 18:15:47 Well, Tool rocked, of course. By far the best band there although the performance was not perfect. It still blew me away. Note for future concerts at Camden: get a seat. The lawn was okay for watching bands that I didn't care about too much (I could lay down and sleep during Kilgore), but for Tool closer is better.I was up at the very front of the lawn, but it was still much too far. The worst place to watch the concert was probably the seats in the back, in front of the lawn. These people were constantly being hit by sodas, beers, CDs, hats, shoes, ice and whatever else the people on the lawn could find. They were faced toward the lawn the whole time during Tool, to avoid being hit by airborne trash. Some of them got hit pretty hard. Plus, they had to deal with people from the lawn leaping into their seats before security could stop them. Almost everyone of legal drinking age on the lawn was very drunk and Megadeth had turned them from being spaced-out drunks into being really rowdy drunks. Maynard came in dressed as a roadie, although I and the other people on the lawn couldn't really tell. He just looked normal to us. During the first half of "Part of Me" Maynard's mic level was too low, but that was soon fixed. The crowd didn't really go crazy during either "Part of Me" or "Hush", but they were definately enjoying it.Sometime around here, Maynard stripped down to the boxers, saying "This is a very unsexy strip tease". "Stinkfist" made the crowd go nuts. Everyone knew this one, and suddenly I wasn't the only one singing along anymore. It was extended right before the "I'll keep digging" line. The excitement stayed high through "Crawl Away" and got even higher during "Sober", which was excellent. For the Camden crowd, this song probably should have been renamed "Piss Drunk". I think that the moshers liked "Bottom," although it was impossible for me to make out any of the quiet part. Then came the long, beautiful version of "Pushit". Maynard's speech at the beginning was too quiet to make out on the lawn, and unfortunately, the crowd noise was louder than the first half of the song. So it was quite long before anyone even figured out what it was. What really ruined the song for me were the numerous crowd-surfers in my area. The Megadeth fans did not have the patience to listen to the slow song, and I couldn't enjoy it when I was having people thrown on me. After "Pushit", a lot of people fearing that Tool was done were yelling for "AEnema". Maynard told the crowd that Ozzy was getting ready and that "This next song is about better living through irrigation." Then they launched into "AEnema" with the crowd screaming, clapping, and all singing along. Mosh pits opened up on the lawn, and everyone went crazy. "AEnema" was by far they're best performace of the set, and the crowd let Tool know. Then it was over. The trippy videos were too tough to see until it got completely dark, this was one of the few things I was disappointed about. I was also disappointed when no one got naked when Maynard told the crowd to. :) As for the other bands, Ozzy ruled, and Limp Biskit scored major points with the audience when the singer went down into the seats. He came all the way up to near the lawn and spent considerable time in the pit. Megadeth butchered their own songs by just being too loud (yes, there is such a thing). Coal Chamber, Sevendust and System of a Down were the other worthwhile bands. And way to go to the fan with "Learn To Swim" spraypainted on his back and whoever decided to put Rammstein's "Du Hast" video on the screen between bands and pipe Aphex Twin into the speakers right before Tool. Go See The Show!!!! Eric

Review written by: The Fly (fly22@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/12/98 17:46:09 Well let me just say that I have never felt more emotionally into a performance in my life. Tool has to the greatest band on the planet. Ozzy was good but Tool was better. It did seem very uneventful for the people in the more expensive seats. The lawn ruled the entire day, the other sections seemed lifeless. Coal Chamber also gave a great performance as did Sevendust. The surprise of the day was Snot. A band that came on early on the second stage and had the crowd jamming. This was the first I heard of them so they made a good first impretion on me. The whole day everyone in the lawn was in a drug-induced stupor. non-drug users had a whole lot of beer to indulge in. I was right in the center of Tool's largest pit(there were like 3 or 4 of them). At the beginning of Pushit it seemed like the people in the lawn were about to go and beat the hell outta everyone in the seats because they were to busy watching to see what the lawn was doing instead of paying attention to Tool. I didn't spend that much time concerning myself with other people cause nobody was going to ruin this for me. When Pushit got to its more heavier parts no one on the lawn gave a fuck what the people in the seats were doing. On Aenima it seemed as though Maynard was at the head of all naked, drunken, senseless violence. His movement was incredible, it was bad enough that everyone could trip out on the screens on the set which played psychadelic videos the entire time, but his movement looked like he wasn't even human. Without Tool the Ozzfest would have been a joke. Without Manson or Pantera Ozzy needed a big act. Tool gave him that and more. I can't wait till they come back again. Kris

Review written by: Master Reviewer (acidroom@epix.net) Review posted on: 07/12/98 17:03:37 Tool was great as usual. The Roadie outfit was great. The whole time he was singin the first song, I couldnt help but think to myself "god he's dressed normal". It was awsome show. I'd say there performance in Holmdel on the 5th was a bit better, though even the worst tool show is awesome. I also Felt Tow other bands rocked, System of a down on second stage were amazing if you havnte seen or heard these guys check em out. Also I cant believe 90% of Tool fans write in and knock Limp bizkit, they tore the place a brand new asshole in camden, they had the biggest Pit by far, more energy then many bands, not to mention There giving props to tool as they always do, you Tool fans who knock em should respect the fact they give props to your favorite band so much. This was the best ozzfest i've seen for sure. I just hate the fans of ozzy shows, not all of em, just most of em cuase there all a bunch of drunk punks who dont know who or what there even cheering for. W what exactly is the point of goin to a show and gettin piss drunk so you dont remember anything but buying the beer, save yourself some money and go to a bar next time.

Review written by: L.S.Lewis (consider_it@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/12/98 16:20:24 Before a bunch of people get their panties in a bunch: The fans are most definately responsible for placing Tool on their pedestal. The definition of "sellout": those who, because they no longer *have* to prove themselves, don't try as hard. Those who *no longer* put their feelings into it because the majority doesn't catch it anyway. Those who *stop* trying to reach. It's a reciprocating event, a snake eating its own tail. Sorry for the conventionally un-review-like post.

Review written by: Jim Smith (breezeprz@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/12/98 16:10:20 In addition to the concert I saw last week a Holmdel, Tool once again rocked the joint. The audience was a lot more drunk, high and naked at camden however, thus aiding to a more interesting concert effect. MJK came out dressed like a crew member deceiving everyone in the audience until he started singing. The ultimate experience was the live versions of 'Hush', 'AEnema', and a re-invented 'Push It' fucking zoned me into another world! you guys fucking rule! JRS

Review written by: LAuRa* (khansslave@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/12/98 15:36:16 Last nite's show was amazing for me.... this was the first time i have seen TOOL, and it was just incredible... Pushit was so beautiful and it just made me want to cry... But i am going to start reviewing with everything... ok... I got there about 1:30 in the afternoon and I have no idea who was playing on the second stage, but i was watching a little bit, then they left and I traveled on up to the lawn.... i watched sevendust but i had no idea who they were i recognized only one of their songs.... and th en i went back down the second stage for a little while and watched whatever band was playing.... then i went back to the main stage for Soulfy... this is another band that I dont know much about, and then i stayed and watched Limp Bizkit and slowly pushe d myself up to the front.... during Megadeth I got all the way to the lawn railing... this was torture cos i am not a megadeth fan and i was dying to see TOOL... ( im not dissing megadeth, theyre just not my kind of music that i like to listen to)... fina lly megadeth ended and they started setting up for TOOL... someone said Maynard was dressed as a roadie??? I coulnt see that well to see what he was wearing... but i think that was a pretty clever disguise cos whoever said he couldve been walking around a ll day was probably rite.... he probably did... but neway... i was really surprised at what they started out w/... here's the set list... ( not in perfect order, cos i cant really remember) Part of Me Hush Stinkfist Crawl Away Sober Bottom Pushit ( even longer then the original on Aenima... it's beautiful!!!) Aenema When they left I truly wanted them to stay on longer... i really would love them to do their own tour cos then theyd play more and us TOOL fans will get more out of it... maynard said some things during the show but i couldnt really hear cos the people ne ar me were kinda loud and i was on the lawn... ( yes i know, sucky place to be) but the kid next to me had binoculars so i got a few glimpses of them up close... but i still could see them from where i was... they had the screens going... at one point it looked like an eye being operated on... as for the band's movements... i really enjoyed watching maynard dance.... it's very entertaining... and at one point towards the beginning of their set maynard and Justin Chancellor were facing each other... i thou ght that looked pretty kool... I only got a few secs of watching Danny's drumming cos it was kinda dark on the stage.... Adam didnt move hardly at all... which is good, cos i dont find showing off by jumping around too entertaining... and besides, it take s talent to write what they do, and concentration to play live... but it was truly amazing.... and i wish it wasnt over... and i really want to see them go on their own tour... As for OZZY... he's the man... and he's really funny.... DOWN WITH POP!!!!! hehe.... thats all i gotta say.... if u get the chance to go to ozzfest, go... cos TOOL is aussome and together TOOL and OZZY make up for the rest of the bands that were there... =) Cheerio!!!!

Review written by: ed (AenimaEd@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/12/98 12:21:15 Great, I finally get to see Tool, and all I see are negative reviews for their performance. Were they really that bad??

Review written by: L. S. Lewis (consider_it@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/12/98 11:40:21 Tool's soul has left. It was fading away at the LA and Phoenix shows, the feeling starting out so strong you couldn't help but be swept up into it, but draining away after only a few songs. The music has suffered accordingly, but only to those people who felt the meaning behind the songs, felt the pulse of mentality that ran just beneath the surface, let themselves dive in and wonder about their meaning, instead of just saying "this rocks!" Technically they were excellent as always, Maynard quite cleverly disguised as a sound tech, surprising everyone when he stepped up to the mic. Sneaky, sneaky; he was probably milling around in the crowd before the show as well. It seems they have forgotten that they're just people. People who make great music and stir much inspiration, but still only flesh and blood. They've forgotten how hard it was in the beginning, they've lost sight of the struggle, the comraderie amongst other artists, placed themselves upon some god-like pedestal. But this is the way of music fame. It's a shame. A tragedy. Should they sink back to the level of struggle, though? No, there is no solution to this, no suggestions to be made, it's just a shame, that's all, but it could end no other way.

(hydrant) and i watched it from two rows back.. maynard was good.. on target.. the band however, was not.. they were plagued by timing mistakes and in general a very poor set.. pushit was the highlight.. they should really record that version.. but anyway.. if you're going to ozzfest.. in addition to tool.. please catch incubus and the melvins.. they were excellent.. i've seen tool twice now.. the first time they were excellent.. incredible.. last night.. they weren't.. but none the less.. they were still better than most of the wastes at ozzfest.. hasta manana.. - jeff

Review written by: Master Reviewer (cataclysm@hotmail.com) Review posted on: 07/12/98 03:07:45 Tool totally kicked ass in Camden tonight! They, aside from OZZY, put on an awesome show. Maynard began singing the first song in disquise, and then proceeded to strip down and make the fans go crazy! This will not be my last Tool show, since seeing this performance tonight, will make me definately see them again! Thanks Maynard for the show!

Review written by: John Osborne (korn162@erols.com) Review posted on: 07/12/98 00:52:19 Just got in from viewing from Ozzfest. I must go out on a limb and say that Tool's performance tonight was subpar and disappointing. Maynard, who "sneaked" up to the mic and began singing Part of Me dressed as a roadie (wig, walkie-talkie, fanny pack, the whole nine), was clearly the only member who nailed everything. Justin, Adam, and even Danny missed parts here and there, which wasn't that dramatic, but combined with some missing energy, it made the set seem drab. I'm definitely a lover of the elongated pushit, though. That was the sets brightspot. It's just great seeing Tool again. I just hope the next group of fans catches them on a better day, that's all. Aside from Tool, Ozzfest was also disappointing. Friends who saw them said that the Melvins stole the show. I enjoyed seeing Life of Agony (even with that idiot Whitfield Crane [ex-Ugly Kid Joe front man] singing for them) and Incubus. Both were entertaining. Sevendust gets honorable mention although I missed their set. But, most of the other bands on the tour drew a muted chuckle from my mouth. Thank god I missed Coal Chamber, but I did have to endure Limp Bizkit and Megadeth, which is enough to make you want to bring a high powered rifle to your next concert. If you like these bands, sorry, but I just can't take them. So, basically, Ozzfest was another Lollapalooza with Tool playing a shorter set and a lot more Confederate flags ;) See you next time, John Osborne EFNet's #tool as Hydrant korn162@erols.com

For those who cant appreciate them live...i suggest you buy a CD....they are inspirationa l and the "Godfathers of Grunge"....They rule and always will.
