Review written by: Master Reviewer (mathmodl4u@aol.com) Review posted on: 08/07/98 12:12:55 I fucking LOVE these guys! I was so excited to see them, I swear I had tears in my eyes the whole time - it was my first show. I love how Carey was up front with everyone else, not in the back (I am a drummer, too). I especially loved Keenan's outfit!!! And makeup... and his new addition... how did he like being put under??? Of course I think the performance was too short (I know, I know, it was Ozzy's day). Tool's performance was as I have always imagined it would be: powerful and in my fucking face! and SO LOUD! Thank you guys for being my favorite band and for working so hard to give me the music that moves me! BJ, Orlando

Review written by: DRUANNE (DRUMARJR@SNOWHILL.COM) Review posted on: 08/03/98 14:11:44 TOOL was awesome, they were who i had drove 7 hours to see but, they didn't play very long. i was in about the fourth row of people when they came on but, immediatly i was almost trampled on and killed after about 30 seconds. people were there just to see them only. they started pushing to get as close as possible. i love tool more than any band but, SOULFLY was the best to me. limp buiscut or however you spell it sucked!! they were assholes and talked shit the whole time. they tried to play a slayer song "angel of death" but they failed miserably.SNOT sucked as well. TOOL rocked as well as SOULFLY. everyone else really didnT have my attention. Max Calvalera looked pretty fine up there for all the girls out there! I think i was the only girl there that didn't have rainbow colored hair.

Review written by: Master Reviewer (dbak@siservices.net) Review posted on: 08/02/98 05:24:42 ok,i won't rehash the same things evryone else has already posted.one thing i have not seen mentioned is one of maynards speeches.he said"this song is dedicated to all the suckers, otherwise known as the road crew who spent their entire paychecks at rachel s(strip club)last night and came home "almost"empty handed and it also goes out to the girls from rachels who are standing at the gate right now trying to get in because they were told they would be on the guest list".tool was fantastic!it was my first ti me seeing them and i can't wait to see them again as a headliner and playing a full show.they sounded incredible and maynard with his face painted white and moving around with his crazy moves made it almost impossible to take my eyes off him.as for the ot her bands, life of agony(second stage)was lame, limp bizkit was great as was sevendust.megadeth's sound was really shitty and tooooo trebely sounding, the crowd seemed to be really bored during there set.soulfly was not bad but they seemed to play forever,at least much longer then the other bands except for ozzy.as has been said before, ozzy did seem to have put on some weight and was not moving aropund as much as he usually does but his voice sounded better than the last 3-4 times i have seen him so the quit ting smoking seems to be helping.but i don't know what the hell people are talking about saying that everyone left after tool.i was about 30 yards from the stage and when looking back i could not even see the end of the crowd.it was by far the most crowde d when ozzy came on.i've seen a few posts that the fairgrounds was a terrible place to see the show but it was not that bad outside of all the trash evrywhere.the security was pretty laid back and off to the side of the stage tucked back a little ways the re was a big air conditioned building that they allowed people to hang out in so that was nice to go cool off between bands.all in all tool was fantastic and i regret that i have not went to see them before when they have came to town playing in smaller v enues.

Review written by: Sunny (condell70@yahoo.com) Review posted on: 07/31/98 12:20:30 I went to Ozzfest with the intent to watch TOOL. And watch TOOL I did. I wasn't able to get as close as I wanted, but where I stood was good enough! I think you could have stood anywhere at the fairgrounds and been impressed. The songs have always been powerful to me, but after seeing them live, for the first time, I have to say it was almost like a religous moment. I was thrilled and chilled not only with the band, Maynard especially, but by the videos. Even without the videos, it was impressive. What can I say...it was one of the best concert experiences in my life. And I have seen all the great ones! They are diffenetly the future of rock! If you get a chance to see TOOL - GO!!!!!

Review written by: Chris Sharesky (TOOLcjs@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/31/98 10:05:03 What can I say, What is there TO say? I saw OZZFEST in O-town on the 29th of July. This being the second time I have seen the band. They kicked ass in Orlando last year at UCF Arena (Dec. 11th)and they kicked ass at the Fest this year. Too bad their set was limited to only 55 minutes, I could have DEFINATLEY handled another few hours or so. But all in all the "Fest" was well worth the trip, AND the wait to sit through all the other bands performing that day, just to get my second opportunity to see the greatest band I have ever seen and heard live. My thanks goes out to the band for the EXCELLENT show, and extremely good music. You guys have a fan for life. Keep up the SUPER work, take your time for the new CD. I'm sure it will be well worth the wait. A fan... Cj

Review written by: SyMfoNiC (symfonic@yahoo.com) Review posted on: 07/31/98 00:57:21 okay, I know this is a day late but I've been following Tool around Florida so gimme a break:> This was the first show I went to, West Palm Beach being the second, but this show was just as cool. First off, here's the set: Cold And Ugly (i was mighty happy to hear this) Forty Six & 2 Stinkfist (w/extended bridge) Sober Eulogy Opiate Flood (waaaaaaaaaaaaa!!) Aenema This show sounded PERFECT. There was not a flaw in any part of it. The sound was great, the band was energetic, I don't know what the hell you're smoking if you thought that show was bad....and i definitely urge you to quit smoking the crack if you gave this show a bad review. The beginning was the greatest, Maynard came out in a black embroidered Kiss robe, and said Luuuuuuke, Luuuuuuuke, come to the multi colored multi faceted rainbow side of the force, and then he started waving a rainbow stick thing around. heh, Maynard made a very convincing Obi-Wan too:> Then somewhere, I think after 46 & 2, Maynard told everyone to grab a partner, grab a pole fill a hole and start fucking. Then after Stinkfist he says "too much chit chat not enough fucking!" hehe, really funny that night. okay, I didnt wanna have to do this, but I just feel that i must....Eric Fox you have no clue at all. I read your review, you kinda left out that tool played flood in their boring 40 minute set that was actually just a few minutes under an hour and was a great set. I guess the once in a lifetime obi-wan/maynard intro skit just wasnt enough for you! And finally, I thank god for a smart tool soundman, because the rest of the bands at ozzfest sounded really bad, especially megadeth. I'm sure they fired alot of soundtech guys after their set:> oh yah, one other thing, this one is for the guys running the show...when you hold a concert in florida and it is 100+ degrees DONT CHARGE FOR THE MIST TENT :> bye -sym

Review written by: Nick Truden (Nucs94@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/30/98 20:52:18 A lot of people where I work at that went to Ozzfest said Tool sucked. They are obviously fucked in the head. Tool was probably the best band there with Coal Chamber coming in second. Maynard came out in a black robe and his face was painted white. I'm sure somebody else put the set list on here so I'm not. But they did play my fav song which is Flood. I was very pleased. All in all a good concert indeed. All the bands put out a good show. -NJT P.S. A big fuck you goes out to the guy that hit me in my head during Soulfly.

Review written by: el es dee (ljbl72b@prodigy.com) Review posted on: 07/30/98 18:45:31 overall...ozzfest kicked ass. me & one of my friends drove about 8 hrs to it, mainly to see tool. we got to the shitgrounds (the ground was covered with all kinds of shit) when snot was on--alright. next i believe came coal chamber. good music, but they looked to much like marilyn manson. it was so fuckin hot so i was kinda glad when the rain came during limp bizkit. he started fucki with the crowd doin shit like "yall wanna hear korn?" "yeeeeeaaaaA!!!!" so, they started to play blind & right after "are you REAADy!!!!!!!!", they just quit. i laughed my ass off. then we walked to the second stage & this band was so shitty it was pathetic. they tried too hard to be "cool" & wound up looking like jack-asses. they were saying shit like "do any of you know that the government is a bunch of lying fucks" like he was the only one who knew that shit. then saw some megadeath which mustang can play afuckin guitar. then i wanted to get close up for tool so i waited the 45 min for stage setup. during that time, someone held up a cross & im kinda surprised he didnt wind up getting mauled by the crowd. there was also this one chick (which all women should be like her) & took off her top exposing some wonderful pierced breasts. i could tell that tool was about to come on cause the music started gettin real trippy (wish i had eaten the shrooms i sold--dammit) then MJK came out lookin like the emperor from star wars & said Luke, I am your father. come join the multi-colored rainbow side of the force." then pulled out a multi-colored toy light sabre. I dont remember all what was played, i was to busy crowd surfing & in the pit, but they started with cold & ugly & finished with anemia. i heard stories about how maynard could stare into everyone in the audience at once. true he started going into cuvulsions & started doing shit that i think he was on some killer acid. finally ozzy came out & since there was a horde of mother-fuckers & fuckees, they had a huge screen on ozzy & i think the camera man was just a li ttle bit horny cause he kept showing the titty woman. i didnt stay for the whole set of ozzy. there was goin to be to much traffic. the only thing that needs to be changed is the length of tool & the fucking outrageous prices. im still glad i went thoug h. Review written by: Dave Bell (beavis53@mediaone.net) Review posted on: 07/30/98 17:00:53 First I'd like to say a bit on the crowd in Orlando. I've never seen so many losers, crackheads, whores, and skinheads in my life! I dont think i could fine one person (besides me) that wasnt smoking a cig or burning some pot!! Their wern't too many assholes there, but, there was of course a couple. And trash, there was trash EVERYWHERE. It was like standing on a landfield, it was sicking. Oh yea, there was one streaker, it was this nasty fat dude, he was running around, flapping everywhere... he then picked up this pointy stick and we thought someone was gonna get killed or something! The cops took him down though (this all happened at the main gate). All the bands rocked, except for Coal Chamber, which reminded me too much of Marylin Manson (who sucks). Limp Bizkit was really good, I'm from Jacksonville FL, like them, so it was really, really cool to see them live and stuff. After that, Megadeth played, and then tool. I was up front at the beginning, but was soo crushed, i could barely breath, it was actually a wonderful experience though. I pushed my way back, hitting a few jerks while trying to balance myself. I found a nice lil spot by the sound board thing, and just sung my heart out and breathed the lyrics in and out. Tool played the following(the order might be a lil off though): Cold and Ugly, 46&2, Stinkfist, Eulogy, Opiate, Flood, Sober, and Aenema. Eulogy had a little diff riff at the end (only the true tool fan could tell), at least it sounded different. They played for about an hour or so, and it went by so fast. They really didnt deserve to play in a dump like the Central Florida Fairgrounds (COME TO JACKSONVILLE!!). Another cool thing was they tied the end of Opiate into the beginning of Flood, was really neat-O. And another thing was the layout. Normally its Danny in the mid-back, maynard in the mid-front, Adam on the crowds left, and then Justin on the crowd's right. But this time it was Danny in Adams spot, Maynard in the mid-front as always, and Justin and Adam (side-by-side!!) on the crowds right!! It was a sight to behold! And after tool got done, just bout EVERYONE left! It reallly is Tool Fest '98!!! Ozzy, face it, your old, and just aint "there" anymore! Overall, it was a great first tool experience. And yes, it would have been better if it was dark, not afternoon. And when some of the bands played, it would be lightning in the background, and was awesome! It rained for a bit, got everything all muddy and all the reefers fudged up... whelp, dat bout does it! I prolly forgot something anyways!! Later guys!

Review written by: Raymond (Undertow89@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/30/98 14:58:32 WEll.. i went to Ozzfest on July 29th with my brothers and a couple of friends.. we got there right when "SoulFly" took stage.. they were alright but definitly not as good as TOOL, then next Limp Bizkit came on and brought out a big ass Toilet!! and they were playing a few songs and they flushed one of the spice girls down. next came out "Megadeth".. which i was in complete disgust as i watched about 3 minutes of the show... i just started walking around with my brothers & friends and i was looking around and i saw "Adam Jones" just walking around Ozzfest my i was going to say hi but i didnt really want to create a scene or bother him so.. i just let him walk by, but it was a really cool experiance. Well finally Megadeth got off stage and i tried to get as close as possible for TOOL, so i ran up there with one of my brothers and got about 10 feet away from the stage! Maynard walked out with a KISS robe on , his face was painted white and he had long socks and platform shoes on! he walked out and he pulled out one of those little light sabers u can buy at fairs or amusment parks, he held it up and said "Luke i am your Father", and he said something like "ive brought out this Multi colored, mulifacited light saber here" anyway they started with "Cold and Ugly", and he started to take off the Kiss robe as he was singing, and all he had on was some "Joe Boxers" , it was pretty cool .. anyway they started and they just sounded great "no flaws" maynard sounded perfect and danny was to the T! next they played Sober i think i dont really remember the order.. the Pit started to get pretty rough and i was getting tossed around and crushed and everything else ... well then they played a couple of more songs saying shit in between ... like "too much Chit-Chat, Not enough Fucking.... ok ok, Making love whatever u want to call it just do it" well then they played Stinkfist and in the background while they were playing on the screen they showed Elephants having sex, and and eye getting cut out... and other fucked up shit! they finished it off with aenema and it sounded perfect as all the rest of the concert i cant really descibe how great it was! well then they got off stage.. and they said Ozzy was going to come on next and after that i left as alot of other people did everyone was just there to see TOOL! is was great and if u get a chance to goto TOOLFEST 98' (aka Ozzfst) check it out just for TOOL its definitly well worth it!!!

Review written by: Scott Benson (bense@freedomnet.com) Review posted on: 07/30/98 14:40:06 This was the first time i had seen TOOL play. I wasn't at all disappointed. I thought they played an excellent show. I have to say that it would have been better in the dark though, instead of daylight to dusk, because of the lighting effects and video they had setup. Since I had not seen them play before, there was no way to accurately predict how any of the band members would act. Maynard was the most active (and not to mention, limber). He wore the white face paint, black bra with prosthetic breasts, black Joe Boxer shorts, and black platform combat boots. He came out with a black hooded robe on, which was eventually removed after he had finished a Star Wars related production. I couldn't really see Danny since he was totally surrounded by cimbals and electronic effects equiptment, despite his towering height. Adam was surprisingly calm, reserved, and serious. But, his skill and passion on the guitar were amazing to hear and watch. Justin's skill was also amazing. It was like he consumed every inch of his bass, going up and down the frets. TOOL put on one of the best shows that i've ever seen. It was an enjoyable experience. It seemed that they added extra live material to each song, making it less predictable, and more open to the imagination. Their sound was incredible, and that is what matters most.

Review written by: Tim (timv@mediaone.net) Review posted on: 07/30/98 05:30:36 I had never seen Tool live before, and so was looking forward to this show. I was disappointed, for two reasons, neither of which had to do with the music. The first had to do with the lighting: It was broad daylight when they did their set. The visuals and the lighting would have been far more powerful in the dark. This couldn't be helped, of course, since it's Ozzy's tour, and he gets the prime spot at the end of the show for his set. The other had to do with the rednecks who were throwing garbage at Maynard during the show. They hit him at least twice, once while his back was turned. During the other acts, people were throwing stuff up on stage, but never right at the performers. Nobody threw anything at Dave Mustaine, and he sucks so hard that anything thrown in his general direction would undoubtedly be pulled straight to his body. Even though Maynard and the rest of the band were being treated with complete disrespect, they were completely professional, refusing to even acknowledge that it was happening. Frankly, I'm surprised that they stuck around to play as long as they did. I will never go to another show in Orlando. I'd rather party with my great-aunt and her friends from the Salvation Army than those pasture-land pussies. They ruined the entire day for me.

Review written by: Jesse (kingvitmn8@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/30/98 02:31:15 I had a great time at OzzFest this year. I had seen Sevendust & Limp Bizkit before so I knew that they kicked ass live. System of a Down was badass too. In fact I dont think I could name a sucky band that I saw. I was kind of glad it started o rain when Limp Bizkit came on, it was better than having to PAY out our ass for those misty-tents. I had never seen Megadeth live, they played most of their new songs though. Also, to further plug their album, they had an airplane circling over the fairgrounds w/ a Mystic Writings banner...kinda lame. Tool as always blows up live, I wouldve loved to hear 3rd Eye or No Quarter, but what are ya going to do... As for Ozzy he didnt look as good as the past 2 years Ive seen him. Maybe he was sick or something, but he looked older & looked like hes put on weight. I read somewhere that he just quit smoking, that probably has a lot to do w/ it. But still, he's usually more energetic on stage running around, and his set used to be longer, but all in all, jolly good show. Mad props to the chicks flashing the video screens... I get to see the WPB show tomorrow so maybe i can compare the 2.

Review written by: Stephen Walker (chessie@gte.net) Review posted on: 07/30/98 02:20:28 What a show!!!! The sun was setting the stage was set, Danny's drum set was setup up left side stage the rest was right up front. After pushing my way up with a friend through a Limp Biscuit concert to get closer to the front, We waited a half hour then stood through a lousy Megadeath show before we could make any ground towards front center of stage at the fence! Well MJK came out wearing a black KISS robe, and a pated white face. He mentioned something like" Luke, give in, give into the multi-rainbow color of the force." And then he pulled out one of those wonder wands that have bright colors on them and extend when you flip them. He waved it around and then it began. Cold and Ugly started it off, and it was great, immediately the crowd was going frious, people shoving to get up front, flying over the fence from being tossed, pits opening up right and left with all these ogres running into each other. Well the moment was building and the whole crowd was in a delusional state, swaying back and forth, jumping, throwing there arms up, pushing, shoving trying to stay on their feet. After the first song came 46&2, and it was awesome of course. I'm not gonna mention what I saw on stage for those of you who are still waiting to go, but it was great! I kinda lose track of the order of songs, but I do remember looking behind me and seeing a sea of people all moving with such a poewrful force. A couple fights broke out, but what can you expexct, it's TOOL, how can you not get worked up over it. They played Sober, Stinkfist, Aenema, Opiate, Third Eye and Eulogy. Every song was unreal. This being my first time ever seeing Tool live, I was amazed. Majority of those who were at OzzFest, were there to see TOOL! Well needless to say, they put on the best show there today! TOOL RULES!!!!!! TOOL ROCKS!!! KILLER CONCERT

Review written by: Eric Fox (rollios@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/29/98 23:26:52 Another thing that pissed me off about TOOL was that they did nothing special...cause after hearing all of these stories about maynard coming out all dressed up and then preaching a little....he did none of that tonight.....the music sounded horrible...even though I LOVE TOOL...I couldn't hear Adam one bit all I could hear was Danny....and tonight they had a completely different set from every other date....they didnt even play Jerk-Off....they played Cold&Ugly,Eulogy,Stinkfyst,46&2,Sober,Opiate,then they finished with Aenema....it was very very dissapointing...also if any one knows where I can get one of those voice box things that Maynard uses mail me with some info

Review written by: Eric Fox (rollios@aol.com) Review posted on: 07/29/98 23:11:16 I was really dissapointed at TOOL tonight.....The line up said that each band had 1 hour to perform...so TOOL comes and and plays Cold&Ugly...then Maynard says that they have 55 minutes left to play ( while dressed in his boxer shorts and stuffed bra)then they play 5 more songs then they ran off the stage...they were only on for about 40 minutes and that pissed me off so much
