page: title: Tool Set Their Dressing Room On Fire, Lose Bowl Of Fruit author: Jon Wiederhorn Mystical metal band Tool have developed a reputation for performing shows that set venues ablaze with excitement. Before a recent show in San Antonio, Texas, however, they actually set a venue on fire — for real. Tool were hanging out backstage at the Freeman Coliseum when a candle they had lit set a nearby drape alight. The fire quickly spread to the table the candle was on before the band's stage manager and venue officials doused the flames with fire extinguishers. Firefighters were called to the scene, and after a quick examination of the singed dressing room, they declared the area safe and determined that the show could go on. A post on Tool's Web site read, "The only real break with routine was the loss of two interviews for a couple of newspapers and the bowl of fruit in the dressing room. The table was retired with honors and the room remains a shrine to badly fitted drapes and candles." The general manager of the auditorium said Tool would be billed several thousand dollars for damage to the door and wall. There are four more dates on Tool's current tour, which ends November 24 in Long Beach, California. After the tour, vocalist Maynard James Keenan will return to his other band, A Perfect Circle, to record vocals for its second album.
